Not had a decent drop from him yet, heh. Gold Ring last time. That said was an easy fight light blue con to my 52 Paladin. Oh, and I should add: this was on the TLP Fippy Darkpaw server.

kinda tough at 45

killed im last night. he was kinda tough for a 45 pally and a 59 cleric. root and heal method was needed. (would have been easier if he had not just pulled 3 giants and he was an add)it worked however.....MASSIVE HP around 8k as 160 damage did like 2% to his health.

Was farming HG as usual with my lvl 57 Druid when Broog popped up. Ok np. I rooted & snared him, cast Breath of Ro, Winged Death, Drifting Death, Drones of doom. I repeated all the above 4 times before he fell dead. Took 3-4 bars mana. Normal HG takes 1 cast of some of the above. Anyways my reward was a 1H FS Sword, 25pp 1gp 9sp 4cp lol.

We were in there last night doing the good ol' HG farming when ol' Broog starts wandering across the hill. Lost the tank to Broog, the cleric to Broog and a cyclops add. Probably wouldn't have if it weren't for the fact that we'd just finished up a 6-pack of HG's, but those are the breaks I suppose. Anyway, out of mana, had him snared along with the cyclops, so my little wizard butt takes off across rathe to get him into one of the areas players don't frequest. Get plenty of distance, but make sure he's still following and park my carcass to get some mana going. Took a few more nukes, never did med up enough to get a comet off, and wound up with the group shammy catching up and rooting the cyclops so I can finish ol Broog off. A little medding and a quick nuke drops the cyclops. So what's Broog drop in exchange for a cleric, a warrior, and a whole lot of running around?

1 pp, 5gp.

That's it. No sword, no goodies, no nothing, just a buck fifty in pocket change. Must've been rolled before we got to him.

After a long and hard fight I was dissapointed to only get 26pp. I think if he is not going to drop a worthwhile item he should at least drop 100pp. Silentlyc Silverclaw Humble Paladin of Rodcet Nife MT server

I was out farming HG's with my 43 bard, several lvl 50+ in zone also so pickings were slim, went to the top of the hill and saw this guy walking around. I've killed the tainted and corrupt hg's before in my low 30's, but this guy conned red at 43, I thought he would drop some nice stuff, I figured theres no way he could catch me and he would be toast if my chants would hold so after 20 mins of chant kiting this guy,I was really dissappointed to find a 2h fss and a rune, plus only 25pp. All in all I guess it was interesting and took me back to when I kited red HG's =)
got him
# May 30 2003 at 12:47 AM Rating: Decent
Kited Broog with my lvl 43 Bard with the friendly support of a Cleric and a Mage until he dropped. Mage was oom at this time and Cleric never came to casting some Heal on me due to me running around.
Some Necro had pulled Broog, thinking him to be the ordinary HG and gated away when discovering the opposite. Broog ran Amok and trampled three characters on his way around the hill with his friends, so we assembled a war party to take him down.

Took about ten minutes.
Lots of cheers from the neighboring hills afterwards.

Loot: about 50pp
lots of hp but easy

Pretty much the same experience here to those stories below. Level 37 Druid walking around the tower looking for that rare white (or even yellow) HG when *whack* Broog starts beating on me. I take him to a nice quite area with room to move and proceed to lay my four DoT's on him while keeping a distance to med. Root wouldn't hold long or was resisted outright so I didn't bother after the third resist.

He has loads of HP on him , and without KEI this would have been impossible to complete solo. All up figure I spent 15 to 20 minutes with him for 13 pp , a FS warhammer and 2 blue bubbles of EXP .

Could have got more loot and EXP from normal HG's in that time but hey , now I can say I solo'd Broog Bloodbeard at level 37 :-)
not that hard, just massive hp
# Feb 22 2003 at 11:48 PM Rating: Decent
i just solo'd this guy as a 45 druid with ES vambs, he wasnt that hard it just took a while. i was root/dotting another HG at the time(after just having done the same to 3 others without medding) so i was down to half a bubble of mana, and i didnt know what i was getting into. well 10 minutes and a ton of roots, Drifting Death's, and Drones of Doom's later, he was down for the count. i wasnt all that happy when i found he doesnt drop anything at all though :(
high hp
# Feb 03 2003 at 11:20 AM Rating: Decent
I solo'd him this morning with my 53 bst, he has a ton of hp, i'd recommend pulling him somewhere safe though. I had kei stacked with spiritual radiance and ended up with 40 percent of my mana left at the end. Dropped 3 plat, bleh. Not worth the effort, but interesting fight nonetheless.
Got Him!

We found this guy last night. Level 42 Ranger, level 42 Cleric and 39 Cleric and took him down. Quite a fun fight. Got real close to dyin several time. Rooted, DOT, arrow kite and Rathes from Clerics finally got him.
Broog Deadbeard

He was relatively easy compared to other mobs of similar level. 48 druid with kei, took him down in a little under 10 minutes. Low resist rates, ton of hp, bit over 10k. Easy as heck compared to FG elites in the Great Divide.

18 Jan 03, mob was tough. Group was 56 ranger 53 druid and 51 Barb war (me) Ranger died, druid almost died and I should have died 3 times. Dropped 33 gold and the necklace. Took about 10min to kill. Regen was comparable to Cazel. Overall, a huge waste of time for a dark blue mob.
RE: Broog Deadbeard
# Feb 10 2003 at 6:35 PM Rating: Decent
You and your group apparently are not very good if you had trouble with this guy... A. the ranger should not have even been hit if the warrior was worth his salt. B. the druid should have been able to solo him with a bit of mana to spare. C. if the ranger had decent gear he should have been able to solo him also. overall based on your description I think all 3 of you should delete your characters and start again this time taking time to learn how to play the respective classes well. In reguards to the cazel comment, bullox. funny how trios of low forties say they are fighting this guy without incident and your mid 50s trio barely beat him and had a death.

I must agree, since my 39 lvl druid has soloed him. Don't waste your time rooting him, just keep kiting him back and forth and keep the DoT's on him. I can't imagine a 50+ druid having any problem with him.

Going to have to strongly disagree with you concerning his regen, a long time ago I bow kited this guy with my lvl 45 Ranger with a Druid friend for support. We had little trouble killing Broog as long as we stayed out of his melee range.

I highly doubt thats enough DPS to keep Cazel's regen in check.
easy with kei
# Nov 11 2002 at 11:05 PM Rating: Decent
At lvl 37 with kei I took him in about 20 minutes with my druid, snare, root, then stacked DoT's. Resisted root a few times everytime he started moving again but other than that he was easy

Im a level 50 sk and i fear kited him real easy with a c 3 only used 3 bubbles of mana and lost one bubble of health.
Soloing & Killing Broog

LVL 48 Druid with 194 wis .
Hello friends , I know we all love Broog Blackbeard when he comes tearing through the zone . But I was looking for a dark blue con to take down and didn't look at target till I had snared dear Broog . So lo and behold I have Broog Blackbeard on the string and by the way I do look at target before snaring now. Well I had him jogging behind me and had seen him desimate mid 50's palyers so what was I to do ? Since I could zone if I had to there was tht option . But if I went link dead I would be toast . So what the heck , I Doted Broog with Drifting Death which he resisted but I used Immolate another Dot which held. He resisted drifting 3 times off and on which was followed by Immolate then drifting death again which would hold . I kited him for 20 to 30 min and snared him twice in the interum .With the resists my mana was used up but I would run ahead and med as he cought up , and take off again . I would Dot with drifting when needed . But after a long time my mana was about used up . He was down to 20% life and I had to med till I got enough mana to hit him with Drifting again , then the inevitable happened , at least at my lvl . My mana ran out . But it was almost enough Broog was in his death run with 12% life left and then my snare spell wore off . Oh no , no mana and no time to med up because he was off and away .So since my 1hb is up to 157 which I'm glad I worked on it( and I was using a 1hb at the time) I proceded to beat the ever loving "S" out of him while he cried along the way . When the ensnare spell wore off I had him over by the Inn close to the Lake Rathe zone , so he starts heading for home back to hg valley and He thinks help from his brother HG's . I beat on him from there to the entrance to HG valley where he finally expired and the reward was.... really not much . 4 pp and about 1/2 a blue exp if that much . So the moral to this story is keep your weapons skill as high as you can , it can come in handy , and don't bother killing Broog . Its not worth it , I could have taken 3 to 4 regular HG's in the same time and been much farther ahead in the pp and exp dept. Oh also if I had gone LD I would have been burnt mashed toast to say the least .

Sad but true. First time I ever even seen Broog Bloodbeard too. He conned blue to me at 54, and having never heard of the guy before I figured I would give him a try. Well, my poor pet Lonarn put up a decent fight (Bsrk Str at least 7 times) but eventually my Shiftless Deeds and Gasping Embrace wore off. I managed to get another Shiftless Deeds off, but not with enough time to save Lonarn : (
I rooted and DD'd him about 3 more times before I ran out of mana. I ran as fast as I could (I have Jboots) and he pretty much kept up with me. Twice I tried to root him and got interrupted, so I ran a good long time. Unfortunately for me it wasn't long enough : (
Good thing I had more than a yellow into 54.
Next time I will have more patience and wait till I am FM before I try him ( I would say I was at 75% this time), also I will have RuneV'd myself before engaging.
All in all he was a fun challenge, just wish I could've finished him off since I was sooo close :P

One more notch on the drum
# Aug 13 2002 at 11:59 AM Rating: Decent
I took him down today using my main, a level 39 bard. Walrus-skin drum, fufils chant, chant of flame, and speed song. I'd been doing blue giants at the rate of one every 2-3 minutes and was preparing to get ready for work when I uttered the fateful words "One last pull". Imagine my surprise when the giant I chose had a name and conned red! Figured "what the heck" and went for it.

He's big and has lots of HP. However, he's no faster than a regular giant and that was his downfall. He resisted half my chants but I just ran around him relentlessly and got him with the other half. Took over a half-hour, though.

In retrospect, I'm glad I did it so I can say "Yeah, I soloed a red". I wouldn't do it again because I could have got the same or more experience kiting blues and had 3-5 times the money in the process.
