A Look at the New Interface

The EQ Live coders wanted to say hello in their own special way, so they sent us a screenshot of the whole gang in the Temple of Veeshan. Besides showing off the whole team, the screenshot also gives a nice glimpse into the new interface they are working on. This is definitely worth checking out. To get a more detailed view, make sure you use the zoom in function of IE (right click on the image). Click here to see the screenshot.

I would love a new argument to the /who command...

/who PARTY
As an enchanter, it's very important to know who you're grouping with and what class/levels they are. Asking them class/levels is what we do now and it's far more cumbersome than it should be.

I don't know if the new interface addresses this.. but I would really like to see what is behind the names of the players in my party.

Thanks!

Saw the name up top: Gallanite and his Forehead.

Knew it was an erudite before lookin at the shot =p

Luclin only?

Hmm, with the enhanced grafix that Luclin offers, do you think that this may be Luclin only? :(
It's on Test (Sortof)
# Jun 25 2002 at 12:31 PM Rating: Decent
This morning when I logged in this morning on test, it downloaded a ton of programs. Looking at the program names, they look like UI programs. When I got on, no new UI, tried it with 3 different resolutions.

Download took about 10 minutes at 300K.

You have to turn the UI on first.
will hits mode window be upgraded?
# Jun 25 2002 at 2:59 AM Rating: Default
not sure how many ppl are using the alternate hitsmode wondow right now. its pretty good, if you want to see other ppls hits, but dont want to clutter up your main chat.
currently the window only pops up when there is meelee beatings being give out, an fades after the fight is done. however i have only been able to get 10 lines max ,and am not sure if it gets any bigger.
a window of about 20 lines would be ideal, that way the hits wont scroll to fast, and you wont have to pay as close attention to it.
anyone know if it will be changed, or if there isa way to do it already?>

You can keep the window persistant on your screen by setting one of the flags to 1, I forget which one since I have had it since it came out. Check the documentation for which flag to set.

As to the number of lines to keep, that is based on the size (height) of your window. 20 lines would get a bit cumbersum. I have mine at about 10 for each window.

I have all three windows up at all times. They take up the same height as my hotbank window.

intercafe looks great. yes it does look like dacos interface but o well onther thing i like is the fact that new and easy spell icons are getting added plus the way they did the hole chat box thing looks promising but here are a couple of thing that i think should make it in the new ui

1. at least 1 or 2 extra gems for spell placement 8 gems dont cut it specially when you reach 50 plus were you dont smack a spell at the mob of buff for the group cause you hate going thru the hole forget meme forget remem deal or they could use a function close to the shift + 1 or 2 to be able to meem more spells.

2. be able to get rid of the title box on the different windows to much clutter cause of the title box not to mention the people that run eq on a 800 by 600 res would hate it

other than that i loce the new improvments and add on specially for our pet control i like how now we can see the health bar of our pet and have a seperate screen to control it

would be nice is they included the max and current amount of maan we could hold i think is fair cause as tanks and other melles can see their hp we casters should be able to see hour mana pool and not judge by a inacurate representation of it .
RE: ideas
# Jun 30 2002 at 3:15 PM Rating: Decent
Verant has said they will probably never increase the number of spells that can be memmed at the same time because part of the game is balancing which spells you need up and which ones you dont at any given time. Load of BS, but it means wonders on PvP servers.
RE: ideas
# Jul 24 2002 at 10:35 AM Rating: Decent
I think they should make it like a higher level ability...50+ you get another spell slot every couple of levels or something. Would maintain balance in the lower game and as a 50+ you would still have difficulty choosing your spells as you have so many more useful ones. Just a thought.
Nice

I quit EQ a while ago to play Daoc and while the lack of depth in the high end Daoc game eventualy brought me back to eq there were a lot of things that mythic had done that i liked. One of them was the interface and it does seem like VI has kind of ripped some of that off. Power too em. VI could do a lot worse than looking at some of the thinngs their competitors are doing right and copying that. Cant wait for this to go live. Looks great.

You can Go to EQLive.com they have a link to many more screen shots.

People will flame it. Why? Cause everything anyone does will NOT satisfy everyone. If it did it would be a VERY dull world.

My Opinion: kewl and it is way better than what we got now!!!
Without reading it all... :)

I'd like to know if any or all of this will be applied to EQ... or is it strictly for EQ2? Nice interface btw, I'm always up for changes!

not everything in DAoC sucks, the graphics are nice and smooth and i like the way they handled trade skills. Though EQ is definatly far superior.
Hopeful Option
# Jun 24 2002 at 10:17 AM Rating: Decent
I hope there is an option to display your available mana to group members (toggle on/off avail of course) such that Tanks can see that they are in trouble before they pull 12 MOBs and not enuff mana for heals/mezzes/AE death. This could be integrated as a thin blue line under the health bar we are so used to looking at. Would be better than every other combat saying 40m gtg.
RE: Hopeful Option
# Jun 26 2002 at 5:48 PM Rating: Decent
I agree that that would be a nice addition, but I feel that it would take away from the group interaction aspect. Face it, we all are fine with the following conversation :
"Mana?"
"FM rdy"
"80m"
"27m meddn"

I think that the better the group communicates in general, make for a better, more successful group.
I just hope some long time problems are fixed...
# Jun 24 2002 at 10:02 AM Rating: Decent
1) Pop up windows (track/inv) killing other windows (inv/track)
2) Inv window locking out and resetting the abilities/combat/social gumps.
3) Track window resettig the abilities/combat/social gumps.
4) Mouse Cursor should be customizable (size, brightness) I usually can't seem to find it when I need to (battle with may casters for example)
5) Group members mana/stam display, even just a hint (100/75/50/25%) would be a plus.
6) Ability to drag at least social keys right onto the main window (not hot-key box)
7) More characters for description of social's.
8) Make it easier to control transparancy of chat windows.
9) Allow copy/paste of item stats to chat window.

Probably a dozen others, but those pop right to my head.

The interface looks good from what I can tell about it from 1 screenshot. What I really want to know though is, What armor is the Wizard wearing in the screenshot? It looks like plate, but on a Wizard.
Too funny!
# Jun 24 2002 at 8:58 AM Rating: Decent
A screenshot is sent to give a sneak peek at some of the changes to the interface and people complain.
There are probably so many sub-surface changes that can't be SHOWN on a single screen shot.

(Just realized it had been a while since I updated my profile. It was still showing me as level 30.)

Who knew it would take them this long to rip off the HUD from Anarchy Online....

Dont get me wrong, there are a few unique elements, but the layout and several of the new bars are straight out of Rubi-Ka.

I read in an interview on planet everquest that they are having the interface a summer release and the new bazaar either the sametime or a few weeks after the interface goes out.
Better
# Jun 24 2002 at 1:25 AM Rating: Default
This interface is better than the old one for sure, just looks a little cooler and is more practical, the original wasn't so bad anyway. the really nice thing that not many people have mentioned is with the old interface when your playing at a resolution of 1024X768 or even worse 1280X1024 (my favorite) and you pull out your spell book the window shrinks to half the size of the screen making it very difficult to see your spells, sure you can do same screen resolution or whatever that is and have your resolution change every time you open your book but thats annoying as ever. With this new interface that won't be a problem, sure they could add all kinds of little AIM and ICQ features that we all love, but EQ isn't for chatting and having nifty little windows, this interface will do just fine for the year and a half till EQ2 comes out, then who gives a crap about the EQ interface at all? :)
RE: Better

"but EQ isn't for chatting and having nifty little windows"

Not that I play the game for the chatting, but I'm sure that MANY ppl play the game for the chatting/social aspect.

But, yea.. too many nifty little windows take away from the RP aspect.

is it just me or are there 9 spell gems on that screenshot there?
RE: anyone else notice...

There are not 9 spell slots. The last one is your spell book so there will be no need for a spell book hotkey. =D

It looks to me that the bottom gem may be one to open your spell book.

It's really amazing to see people ***** and moan here. People, THIS IS ONE SCREENSHOT!!! "after a year this is all they have to show"? Well, DUH!! They aint going to be able to show EVERYTHING in one screenshot. If they did, then there IS something to whine about. But people have allready listed a few things that aint shown, like pets and group changes.

The Anon person listing all the "I wants", a lot of those I agree with, and they would be nice to see. But the bottom line (to me at least) is that there is nothing wrong intrinsically with the interface now - its done us all fine for well over 3 years in a lot of cases (including me)

If we get any reasonable number of improvements (and different chat screens is a nice one for me) then people will STILL find something to moan about. My god, it's only a game. Look at what you have at the moment, and think - is it really THAT bad? We are all still forking out our cash and playing each night. They gotta have done something right.

Please put it into perspective. Verant didnt have to do any of this, and they could have just sat back raking in the cash and the game wouldnt change for any of us. If these changes make things easier, great. If they dont change anything live with it, and if things get worse THEN complain. But complaining about whats not changing on the basis of ONE screenshot is pure idiocy.

Dont worry about it, I'm not :) There are things about the game that really annoy me, and I constantly get booted out of the chat rooms for questioning various VI procedures. ALL the patches are directly in my primetime for example, as an Australian player. Patches start at 8pm Sydney time, and its surprising how many patches there really are. Another example is the lack of GM's in out primetime - they are virtually non-existant. Question these, and I'm suddenly out in Windows... Convenient crashes...

But when it comes to things like this, I am just a player who is happy with what we have at the moment. If the interface gets better, great. If not, nothing changes and I'll still be happy.

If people think that defending what isnt broken makes me a VAK, then good on them. I know they're wrong, and if people agree, they rate my posting accordingly. No point in me degenerating things into a slagging war, the person is entitled to their opinion. Either way, I aint losing any sleep over being called a VAK - been called far worse, and far better.

I personally like this addition, but then again I'm coming from DAoC.

If you've played that game, you should consider what other call a disappointment in EQ a gift of god compared to the disappointments from that over-hyped crap game.
