Just a thought....How long will it take for all the lvl 50-60 noobs to show up like they did in EQ1 sticking thier stuff in yer face demanding INSPECT ME and then decideing to start a new char and running around panhandleing all day and generally being a pain in the *** and gettin groups in the planes whiped cuase they hadnt a clue about playing since they bought thier account on ebay from someone that had nothing better to do with thier money than buy a crap load of accounts and PL chars to resell therfore frackin the origninal EQ up for the serious players who were dedicated to the game and its intent.
Am i gonna be in EQ2? hell no since eq1 was fried every time I hear EQ my tummy turns I just decided to post this ause I had to tell my kid NOWAY when i seen em reading these froms.
Sony has no idea how many potential EQ2 players(payers) they have lost becuase of thier lack of control on eq1 with not prosecuting resales and allowing 11YO; who have seemed to do do nothing but learn to curse more then they would have in school and develop a crap attitude like adults have earned, to play on a PS2.
With parental supervision my hind side
??? what ya think prosicution is harsh? If ya break ya law ya should be prepared to pay the penalty.
I sound bitter? yer dammed right I am. I had 5 accounts mine my wifes and one for each of my kids and they NEVER played when one of us wasnt there. the clincher for me was when what I found out was a 14 YO told me to suck his **** and I heard my youngist reading outload something a growen man was saying to her. Yea this dude turned out to be 34YO talking to a 13YO girl like she was his ***** and asking her all sorts of sexual questions.

I just wanted to bring up a point about weapons. I'm not sure if anyone else has thought about it, but I would be SO pissed off if I saved plat for months and months to buy a cool weapon and then it corrodes or chips or or -- you get the picture. If it's more time-consuming and costly, I guarantee I won't be there =P

I really don't give a damn about graphics. I installed Luclin and was able to play for a WEEK befor my computer's brain was literally wiped out, AND I just got a new one with 60 gig hard drive and pentium 4. And you know I don't think anyone gives a **************** about graphicas as long as they aren't pac-man eating little prozacs well being chased by the three stooges.

    Thank you

EQII sounds ok but how about some more info
    # May 20 2002 at 4:28 PM Rating: Default
Like many other role playing characters I find it very hard to enjoy this game to the fullest cause of winers and beggers! I think the problem is that EQ players shouldn't try to tweak there chars cause that gets rid of the whole point of the game, the game was designed so that you should get into your char. sort of like a DD game but not as involved. Why do you want to be so Uber as to where nothing posess a threat to you?

I enjoy playing and am interested in EQII just for the fact that the first one was a good ideal but was runed by char. tweaking other char. No, I have never excepted any hand me downs or anything. If you want it why don't you wait till your are a lvl to obtain it, I find it very anonying when someone sends me a tell asking for money they go straight to my ignore list!

But for the most part I like what I hear and I will have to get some more info on EQII then what there is now like : How is world going to be, Is there going to be such a thing as a zone and, if so what is going to keep the number down in them to keep it from having 80 peps in one zone tring to kill the same mobs?, Is there going to be such a thing as selling high lvl items ( I HOPE NOT )?, How much will it cost me?. This is some of the info I am looking for it sounds good and yes the graphics is cool but from what I have heard and seen they are still dancing around the main questions.
    Nice!

You know, there's something I'm finding quite appealing about EQ2, and it's becoming more attractive day by day. No it's not the graphics, the new training system, the stronger economy, though they're all nicely thought out. The thing I'm looking forward to is this: All the people who are whine and complaining saying they won't be playing... YES!!! Finally I'll be able to RP without a bunch of grief players running through, they'll all be too stuck on being UBER. Yipee! Yay!! Good riddance!!

EQ2 looks to me to be a copy of what they're doing with SWG. Same new skill advancement, tradeskill importance, property, new vehicles, undefined player classes, etc. It's still going to come down to kill the uber mob for the uber reward though. It has to, otherwise everyone will be running around in mandelorian armor. I think they are trying to get away from hack and slash for andvancement, but the new skill trees require you to perform quests to complete sometimes. So you're probably still going to get the shaft if you're the type of person that tries to stay away from the uber guilds. It will be an improvement, but until they can find a good way to make items rare but attainable without 100 players it's never going to be perfect.
    RE: hmmmm
    # May 12 2002 at 12:52 PM Rating: Default
First off, I agree, this game will probably be using the exact 3D engine Star Wars Galaxies will be using with different location textures.

I disagree that killing Uber Mobs will still be as significant as you think. VI has already said that to get things in SWG it will be more about quests. Imagine completing all the running around, etc you have to do to get your epic, for almost anything you want. That sounds like close to what it will be.

Finally, I would like to say, that if this was a Star Wars forum I'd be yelling at your mention of Mandalorian armor, but I'd rather not get into it here, since this is about EverQuest.

I don't know if I'll play EQII at all, I on't really know if I like the idea, I like EverQuest how it is, sure it could use improvement, and some way to reduce the numbers, but EQ is not so bad, and EQII will probably be good too. I'd also like to say that I doubt VI is going to come here, see all your whining, and decide that they shouldn't release EQII afterall; this is going to happen, it's called progress, nothing stays how it was, get used to it
    Re: Sheesh....
    # May 09 2002 at 5:47 AM Rating: Decent
I agree somewhat... The part where EverQuest seems to get old is the continuous, mind numbing "hack and slash" stuff. I eventually retired from raiding because it got too monotonous. Same with all the exp grinding and such. When I was level 59 i spent literally 22 hours camping frenzy in velks :/...got down to one blue bubble from lvl 60 and then fell asleep while on autorun heh.

EverQuest has its strong points, but the whole hack and slash stuff gets kind of old. I'm hoping EQ2 will be more broad minded, making it so that hours and hours of mind numbing repetitive raiding aren't hte only true way to get ahead in the game.

Some people still enjoy great challenges and still work hard to improve their chars, but dislike raiding. If EQ2 offers more to the ppl who are so sick of raids they can puke, then i might consider moving from eq1 to eq2. I mean, a lot of ppl enjoy raiding, but a lot of people dont. I used to, but i don't anymore :/.

It sounds as if EQ2 offers a chance for the non raiding ppl to actually improve their chars rather than having to resort to shadowing uber guilds scavenging for rotting loot. I always thought EQ1 was too single tracked... "Kill uber mob, get uber loot"... It makes sense, but it doesn't leave much to the imagination, and really limits the number of ways one can improve their chars. If EQ2 makes it so that someone who works hard and puts in the effort to improve their chars..but would rather do it in other ways than raiding...rather than only offering opportunity to those who can tolerate raids (*shrug* some enjoy it)...then I will probably switch to EQ2. But if EQ2 is another raid frenzy hack and slash deal...why bother..already have my chars that i've put in like a years worth of days played on EQ1 (scary, now that I think about it :/).

As for the roleplay part...i so agree that EQ lacks a lot of culture. I am probably not as devout a RPGer as you, but still when like i get a million flames when I say inkie masks are lame and real dark elves should get some kind of death touch vs imposter ability ;p...not to mention that a paladin would NOT want to be a dark elf in the first place(*points at all you compulsive prenerf mask clickers*)...ok so maybe that is a crappy example, but the roleplay part of EQ seems to leave a bit to desire. It would be nice to play a mmorpg that is not so cut up between roleplay and the whole uberness/loot hungryness ordeal that I have to leave the zone everytime a GM event or something begins cuz roleplaying and ppl expecting a bunch of loot and glory just doesn't seem to mix :/. But EQ1 is just so "uber loot"/"my stick is bigger than yours so i'm better than you" oriented that the roleplay aspect of it just seems to get lost somewhere. Who knows, maybe EQ2 will even have quests that focus on roleplay and emmersion that allows ppl to improve their chars, rather than just rounding up 40 people to kill some lvl 65 mob and turning in its head for the quest reward *shrug*.

Amazing how much time and energy people spend on these boards arguing and postulating on a single subject, but I might as well add my two bits.

I could care less about extensive graphics, since my computer can barely run them now. I don't play with a calculator or a slide rule, so analyzing the fine point between one game and the next is pointless to me (and makes me wonder about the people who DO). The only thing I have ever had a problem with as far as EQ goes is the fact that it touts itself as a RPG. This is NOT a rpg game and never has been - I don't care what it says on the box. To roleplay means you are actually playing the char itself; speaking as the char would speak, developing your own story line, and hopefully being able to spell (instead of 'Y R U goin to DC?????'). EQ is a hack and slash, with interesting spells and nice graphics, but is not a rpg. Very few if any people are in character, and even the role play server is a bit of a flop.

If EQ2 is anything, I think it's the game that the writers and players of real rpg want to see. Verant and Sony is making money hand over fist with this game, and will continue to. As long as a game makes money, it will keep going. However, considering that most of the people who developed EQ are old school rpg-ers themselves, I can imagine they were getting rather tired of Ever-camping or Ever-looting, and even more tired of the total lack of challenge that EQ gives the rper - sure the game is addictive and fun in its own right, and there are new quests being implemented, but mostly the game is a camp and kill, with about as much thought involved in it as most games on the market. The games that tout themselves as rpgs are really steer-and-click games: you pick a character, guide it around, click a few things, watch the storyline unfold before you, and then move your character to the next area. No interaction, no actual roleplaying, even on a server supposedly devoted to rp alone. From a game designer's point of view, this is an embarassment, especially if you play rpg yourself, but the company you work for is interested in the money, so you do it.

However, now that verant is making the money, they can afford to throw a bit of a milk-sop to their designers; a game more in line with rpg, where the actions of the player determines how your character will come out in the end. And for those who are tired of constant combat, some characters that will have to fight very seldom, if ever. No 'play guides', no notes; a totally new challenge. Doubtlessly, it will rocket off at first, like most new areas in EQ, and then taper off as people realize that it might be a bit harder than they imagined. Those who would rather stick to hack and slash will go back to EQ. Those who want a bit more to sink their teeth into will stay. The game designers are happy that they can finally design a game they enjoy playing, and the computer company is happy that they are still making money. And no-one loses out.

So, hence this new addition. I'm thinking EQ2 will appear to the hard-core roleplayers. It's certainly not going to be an easy game - EQ itself only rewards the bloodyminded player - anyone can hit lvl 60 whether deserving or no if you're willing to stay in one spot, get those power levels, and fight till you can't click the button anymore. EQ2 looks to reward the player who really THINKS about how to play the game: how you play determines your class and (wonder of wonders!) you don't even have to fight all the time in order to achieve a level; you merely have to use your head. When was the last time a quest in EQ actually awarded something roughly equivalent to the output of effort (barring your epic, which no lower level can achieve in the first place?)

As for money and whatnot - take a good look at how many people have ALREADY ordered Planes of Power; somehow I don't think that money is a concern. Considering the cost to run a game like this, forking over less than 20 dollars a month isn't anything to complain about (though I know there are people out there who like to anyway, if for no other reason than complaining must be fun for them). Play it, or don't play it. And for every person that complains, there's one that thinks its a great idea. Don't like it, you don't play, it's very simple.

Once more into the breech I go to add my voice to the sea of voices on this most controversial of topics.
First: ever since EQ started it has promoted itself as a community of players. A community as I know it is a collection of diverse individuals who come together to add their unique talents and viewpoints to enrichen themselves and those around them. To those of you who maintain the attitude of put up and shut up you may be looking for an organization more kin to a cult.
Second: Sony is the parent company of Verant and is really the entity behind many of Verants recent decisions. Lets not forget the recent Exodus of many of the talented founders of EQ and Verant.
Third: Sony as a company seems to be accomplished at buying up talent rich and successful companies; chasing the good talent off and running the companies into the ground. Sony should get a new motto: Successful despite ourselves.
Fourth: The release of Legends and the super premium rate does not comfort me that the new EQ2 will be as affordable as EQ has been. After all the only consistent truth about cutting edge technology is IT COST A LOT OF PLAT!
Fifth: While I enjoy cutting edge 3D techtosterone driven games as much as the next player; it is the game play which I find most important. Judging from many of the post about EQ, I'm guessing I'm not alone in this. I haven't seen a lot of post asking EQ to beef up the graphics. Most post have to do with game play, character development, quest and other such nontechtesticular issues.
Sixth: So far there has been a lot of fan fair and bombastic boasting about how great this new EQ2 is going to be; but not a lot of what it will cost, specifics on game play, any specials that might be offered to long time game players (transfer of characters and such).
Seven: The next two years should be exciting for game players. Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Shadowbane and other MMPOG will be making their debutes in an increasingly competitive market. I look forward to seeing EQ2 comeout and believe we should all keep up the dialog on what we want in our community.

I have been playing games since the atari came out. That was back when mario was simply trying to go up a ladder and there were paddles on both sides of the screen that hit a ball (and people were like wooooowwwww). I was 5.
Then the nintendo came out, mario ran sideways, link ran around and hacked things (and people were like woooowwwww).
Then the super nintendo, mario rode stuff, ran sideways and link hacked stuff (and people were like wooooowwww).
Then the 64. (btw I realize there are other systems, but this is for consistency).
Everquest is so much better looking than most of the games up to the 64, and still better than most of those. Nowdays it's beginning to lag behind the others graphically, and the technology is falling behind.
THATS WHY THEY'RE MAKING A NEW ONE.
Plus what most of you fail to realize is that this game is the second step in a new technology (online gaming) and to take for granted the fact that the game is this good, you need to step back and do two simple things:
1)go dig out that old system and play mario, where he trys to reach the top of the ladder. YOU'RE ALONE. Thats the best it'll ever get (but there are no bugs, are there? if no bugs makes you happy, never play anything but this game, you have nothing of a pioneering spirit in you, and for the thousands that do, you are simply removing 'bad genes' from the gaming pool. ps- go check out the darwin awards, you'll probably see a lot of your friends listed there.
2)if you still want to complain about how bad the game is, go buy a copy of ultima online and play that. It was the first step in mmorpg, and god is it painfully obvious. Lag is rampant, there is no staff committed to making new things for the game. There are no policies to protect new players and the company insists on repackaging the same game over and over and selling it for 50.00 a pop. THATS THE COMPANY THAT IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ITS PLAYERS.
And if you still want to moan and groan, then write a mmorpg yourself, it must be simple since so many have succeeded at it (WWII online, Anarchy online...)

I'm reading through this msg . .and much like the others it's all about this bug and that, they haven't fix this or that

yes you whining and complain about bugs and how they can't fix eq right and so on so on. Alot of people are still playing from the beta years.

Good Job Verant, I have only played for about 9 months, loved it, nothing to complain about .. except last nights death . .stupid spawn on top of me heh . .other than that. . RELAX PEOPLE, IT'S A GAME. ALMOST EVERY GAME HAS GLITCHES AND BUGS, THIS APPEARS TO HAVE MORE. . .IT DOES BECAUSE THIS GAME IS HUGE.

If EQII comes out, I'll give it a try, I really like EQI and I'm probually the only person here to say I think Verant did a good job on it, considering the hundred of thousands of people who are currently shelling out 12.95 to play it each and every month.

What I think is that you are all having personal reflection and some of you are getting sad and lonely look at how empty your lives have been in the last 3 years. It's not verant fault you pick up the huge ugly chick at the neighbourhood sleeve bar.

Games are recreation, not life. IF there is a bug, oh well, if it makes the game unplayable, play something else. IF you feel that you put soo much time into this game thatleavnig it will crash your life, check into a mental institution or get laid

    1. once the relese date of eq2 comes you will see a lot of peeps ebaying their accounts cause they are makng the switchwho knows maybe they will try the game first and then do so. you guys think this is going to hurt eq1?

    2. with the relese of eq2 will the adquisition of items be easy? i mean think of a pice of your epic that is so over camped you been just wating 3 or 4 monthto take a shoot at it will eq2 fix that ?

    3. what about the monopoly of some of the uber guilds you think once the migration to eq2 starts that these guilds will desapear? or at least the number of members decrease?

just a couple of questions that poped to my head and would like to see the feedback of some of you more veteran players

So is EQII gonna be a completely different game from EQI, and let them run simotaeously, or are they going to be considered one game, and have those who want to continue playing buy EQII as a very large expansion. Just wondering, I'll probably end up playing both anyway.
