    ???"Welome to the SOFTWARE indutstry"???
I know this is a really old thread but....

I played Played eq beta...last day..everything was still broken...take player and system errors out of the equation....Quests were broken...servers were cheap and placed under far to heavy a load, UUNET went down alot(UUNET not thier problem)collision detection was completely screwed up (instead fo fixing the falling out of the graphics the just gave you a message that you fell 10bagillion feet and died) ..the list goes on and on... AT Release almost ALL the bugs were STILL there...I wasted alot of time filling out bug reports, as did everyone else of was playing open beta huh...
Sony cut Sony Interactive off...I mean from more money..they HAD to release the game AS IS knowing it was not ready..they sold a crappy product to beat others to the jump...Mythic and other small companies had to be pushed out...They did not care that people randomly fell through the graphics or would lose bodies in lava or that the game dynamics or map bugs could be easily exploited, all they cared about was the bottom line...very little was done about game problems but instead they spent thier money making more buggy crap that they knew they could sell....other programs and games have problems yes..but nothing before and very few PAY titles after can compare at failure in function...EQ did so well because they were the only thing out there..ashron's call and later DAOC came along (they ran quite well) but just could not put out the advertising cash or the ability to quickly clone the efforts of smaller companies that began to do well..time after time I would see features in other games of EQ's genre come out then go back and talk to friend about the game I have been playing for a few months and then discover everything good about my new game JUST come out in the latest expansion of EQ...Take a Look at Anarchy Online's Quest System, Check it out for yourself..then Go on an LDON quest OMG they even ripped off Interface ideas (wonder if code was similar, maybe they ripped that off too). Marketing Drives Sony(Sony Interactive, 989, SOE)It does not matter to them if they are producing a quality product...Please dont compliment them for a "Job Well Done" when all they did well was convince everyone that EQ was the best thing out there...its goes right along with how they have continued to promote Nvidia(cause they bought their other kickback company 3DFX that put out crap too)..Almost every game I play has some technical issue that I have to look up a fix to..ATI will have ONE or TWO biggies..Nvidia will have a LLLLOOOOONNNNNGGGGG LIST of issues fixed on this patch, broke again after this, issue solved with this driver update and that same driver update had dozens of NEW issues for the same version of the same game....yet people has had all this corporate BS(propaganda)heaped on them they believe it ...Look I am just angry so I will not GO ON..BUT let me stop digressing and get to the point..If you just love the Game as I did ( I went back several times) then play it...dont compliment them for doing a good job of programming it its not really a good job at all, when they did not even try, or for the development of game concepts or Content when alot of the new stuff is straight RIP OFF of lesser know work...Play EQ or Now EQ2 in spite of its shortcoming dont make excuses for them

Alright, listen here newbies...Seriously, listen to this one.
I have played EQ since BETA, yes, before the gave went live, and as soon as it did, I picked a server and leveled my guy to 50 about two or three months before Kunark came out..and when it did, within 6 months I was 55, and within about another 5 or 6 I was 60. Hard to believe, yeah I know, but this was also before I had a job (Shhh our little secret, heh heh). So, pretty much, I had nothing else better to do on some days than EQ or, uhh, EQ. Yeah, I was a loser-***, I know; Anyhow, point being is this: There are people with the exact same problem (No, not being without a job, stupid...), I mean the same problem as have been playing since, uhh, what, being a sperm? This game has been out a while, and that means years. Many, MANY people are, as stated by someone on an earlier post, already 60. Yeah, sorry, I guess you people that just started a few months or so ago are just $hit out of luck, huh? I have no need for my level 60 anymore, as I do play on a different server now, but when the Planes of Power goes live, you better be damn sure I am going to hop back on the ol'dirty Grave Lord and **** some people off about "...No, I am in the EXP group for this raid!" If you don't like the fact that people like me who have been playing longer than dirt has been on the ground, too damn bad. You think Verant gives a flying <beep> if one person quits because they have a highest character of 15 insted of 51? NOOOOO! Get over it, go level up, and stop pissin' and moanin' about you being a lowbie and me being an uber <beep beep>. I hated it when someone was higher than me and had better stuff than me, but who cares, most of them are the same level as my guy, 60, because they have been playing for awhile, as were they pissed off when I got a better weapon then them...And for those in anger about only having 1 zone for the lower-levels? Haha, Luclin was aimed at the lower-levels AND the higher-levels, so go to the Hollowshade Moor and kill some Gremlin-People...Or you can always go to the Field of Bone and hope you don't run into Trooper Taer. You have, uhh, lets use the atronomy here: 6 or 7 months AT LEAST to hit a good level to enter the plains, maybe even 60 (if you like me, I just made a monk on a new server just over 1 RL day ago and he's already 20, praise the solo abilites of the Iksar Monk; Then again, he's got a Wu Stick, heh heh.)

First of all I'd like to let everyone know I don't play EQ any more, and am happily playing Dark Age of Camalot... so if you would like to stop reading now, go ahead.

I think it's a bad mood since last I played *a month or so ago* There were still things broken and not working in the original game... let alone Kunark, Velious... and we KNOW Luclin isn't in full working order yet. But rather then taking the time to fully work out the bugs and make sure they have whole products and such... they are going to spit out yet another expansion which will likely add nothing more then a new set of bugs... and as stated before... there are already plenty of zones that are under or hardly ever used as it is... and rather then working on that... they just add more... I think thats very true... the game IS too big. When there are many many zones that are just totally ignored, I don't think you need to just slap more on top of them. There is already scores of items in the game... why the hell do you need more? All it does is make some of the older ones useless and become "trash" that no one wants... ahh dunno... I'm just glad I jumped ship... and am currently enjoying DAoC very much... *in fact a week ago I tried to play EQ again and only lasted 6 hours before I canceled, and deinstalled it* ... though for some reason I still like to keep track of the game on the outside.. heh

I do play Everquest and thoroughly enjoy the game. I like the idea that it is a world, it makes the game more fun and endlessly more enjoyable. Adm,itably it can cause some zones to have very little use, but then there must be a reason for the zone to have very little use. For example....the zone does not have easy kills or any good loot. Its not always wise to hunt in those zones, especially if you are trying to level. I think the game gives you the OPTION to go wherever you want to go, and its that the makes the game unique. Removing that would make the game less special.

Its my understanding that VI and currently creating a new interface. This is not something they are selling with PoP they are giving it away free to the users of EQ, its a big bonus for those players but it is also showing VI's standing on improving the game without getting the users to purchase it. If you never want to buy PoP you do not have too.

There are more good points about EQ than bad ones and the game itself is a massive achievement. Bad move? - I dont think so.

    Cheers

I know there are plenty of people currently playing EQ, and loving it and having no intentions of changing services... but I think its one of those things that unless you actually go out and play DAoC for a while, that you can truely see which is better.. and I will stick firmly to DAoC... that was one of the lead factors... Kill easiness and only for the loot as to why zones like Lake of Ill Omen are constantly flooded with people, and other zones like Swamp of No Hope are regularly empty *just using Kunark as an example* Since mob dropped loot in DAoC is totally random and rare as it is *unless in a Dungeon* you are more free to hunt whereever and whatever you want because you like to.. and not spend three days killing one mob for a stinking item.

I didn't like it when they added Luclin much less now they are adding yet another expansion. The game is getting way too big. There are tons and tons of zones that no one uses. There is just way too much equipment. The only reason they make these expansions is because they know people will buy them. That is smart buisness. In a game with grouping requirements making more and more zones is just going to thin the populations out. It is hard enough to get a group 50-54 to begin with.

Ok, i just sat down and read all of the posted notes below. he's my review.

    1. A majority of them have something to do with lvl 60's and how its keeping them happy.

    2. Alot of them arn't really complants

    3. All in all its another high lvl expansion.

    Final Review:

VI is keeping us happy, i roleplay alot and have a tendicy to explore a zone when even the weakest thing cons red to me, in my opinion it will be great.

    final comment:

I got only one question about this new expansion. Will ALL the zones be like Temple of Veeshan, or will they be a little more like DL, just with hight lev mops? If it's like DL I'm all over it, if it's not, well maybe I'll wait then. My highest guy is 51, and has been 51 for almoust a month now. I'm not in a bug time guild, so I'm not raiding Keal, or Naggy, or anything really. I have a LOT of alt's I play, but none are as fun as my main. And I get so dishartened because of the fact I am haveing such a hard time even finding a group. I know that it will take time to lev, Don't have a problem with that, just wish I didn't have to set in Kanors for 3 hours trying to find a group. Or I go to Sol B or Lower Guk and somebody is telling me I'm too low because I would get exp from the mops there killing and I'm lev 60 trying to twink my monk with a FBSS. Kinda to sum up, if there are any zones that can honestly be called a pick up zone I'll order it now, if they all require at least two groups and you have to take them with you then I just won't buy it. I can understand that VI has to keep the lev 60 interested, but I really think they need to think about the 50+ who are not in a big time guild who get to 50, because in all honesty ANY ONE can get to 50 if they have the time to put into it, and then find them selfs begging to get into a guild that can do anything, and hearing that you need to be 55 with 100+ on all your resists. I know a lot of people who stop playing at 51 just because there is no where they can go to get exp. I really injoy this game, I just wish VI would think about the ton's of people who fall into my bracket. Maybe they do, and they just want to keep getting to 60 something special. But for christ sake with all the new AA stuff people can be hunting for exp all the time, but there are few places that you can go and find a group, then the game turns into a chore of trying to set up a time with your guild, hoping that they all show up, and praying that when you get to where your going that it's not camped by 4 lev 60 in a major guild trying to twink on of there alts. Ok that's enough out of me I'm going to bed.

Only read the first part of your post but I think that was enough.. Anyhow.. Dreadlands, imo, should be a one way zone if you start hunting there.. I mean, you get this people who started after Kunark came out leveling in the normal newbie zones, then moving to kunark in their high 20's and 30's to do Overthere.. where you learn no vital skills for the high end game.. then whats worse is they migrate to Dreadlands and learn how to "pull" mobs... enchanters are all but useful to do anything but haste and clarity people in this zone... once they finally manage to struggle to 50ish they goto Karnors Castle where they manage to get everyone killed because of what they DIDNT learn hunting in dungeons.. Please, Verant/SOE... stop making high level newbie areas... make something where people can learn new skills instead of feast on the ever-so-boring "pluck and kill" zones. Mezzing, feign dead, etc are all things people need to see!

    whats wrong with high lvls?
    # Apr 09 2002 at 5:26 PM Rating: Decent
Planes of Power does have 1 lower lvl zone... if they made more its not like a lvl 20 guild will raid it. IT might be a normal exp zone. If it isn't it will probably just be farmed by high lvls for the loot. A raid dosent work until u have a decent guild with alot of 50+ the mobs there cant be soloed by one person.

have we already forgotten velious? have we so quickly forgotten that some of the HARDEST zones in the game are on the very FIRST expansion? so soon we overlook the fact that there is a wealth of things to do in what we already have to explore... this is disheartening...
    RE: high level expansions...
    # Apr 09 2002 at 8:00 AM Rating: Default
One thing for sure. The New expansions with higher level requirements. Sure do free up many of the mid-level camps and end most farming now that they have to learn zones all over again. It is so annoying heading to a zone with your group or guild only to have it camped with 1 or more high level characters. While I am guilty of this myself. I have also left camp when I noticed a group wanted to camp it. It seems only the fair thing to do. I am sure it must be a pain for a high level character once they get above 55. But they seem ( not all but some ) to have brought it on themselves. I have witnessed as well have experienced (with my Main) the "hunt for experience". For those that don't know what it may be. It's the point where you stop playing the game for the reasons you once started. Usually those that a certain level and see exp coming quite fast and hunt ( shout or OOC ) for the next area where exp flows just as fast. This usually starts the chain events of next zone and so on. When they do this they lose sight of the fun at eeach level by gaining 5 levels or more per zone or even at one camp spot. Many don't even hunt around the entire zone they've been in.
So by all means create more and more expansions whether high level requirements or not. I will continue to buy them. I am a fan for life. I just don't agree with the Farming only to spam chat with PC and Auctions. VI needs to address that and make a special channel specifically for that. The latest channels just haven't caught on. Another thing I dont agree with is the Re-vamping of zones to accomodate high levels. Not a good idea. Ruined a few of my favorite zones.

my major problem with level 50+ characters is that a great many of them have forgotten what it's like to be truly low level... sure, they make newbs, but they almost always twink they new characters, destroying the point of leveling up... getting to level 60 is no easy feat... i've been playing my beastlord for a month and a half now, and, call me pathetic, but i'm only level 17... i just wish that the high level brats --brats, yes, note the brats part.. i'm not talking about ALL level 50+'s here-- would stop whining so much about "not having anywhere to go to hunt"... i can think of at least one thing for a bunch of the whiney level 60's to work on... SLEEPER... with that, i bid you adieu.. thank you for your consideration

when i got into this game i was informesd that i would be paying for high lvls to have all the fun - and thats the chip i carried for almost 3 years now - now that i have the high lvl chacs my wife and i find that thats just work not fun anymore therefore we have went back and made many lows and funtime - fun people have returned to our lives - this company is here to make money - thats botttom line - like politicians they will take it as long as you take it - the only difference is that verant seems to be here for us (hopefully) and social security wont - please remember the little guy or gal will get the shaft - therefore game is identical to rl - when we threw the british out of america only 15 percent of the population did it - also the constitution was turned down by vote of the people - bottom line is theres still hope

And i'm not really stirring up anything, except someone said that 'To do this they must have a significant portion of 60s'

I just want to point out that they do. I remember a poll a while ago here at Allakhazam's which asked: 'What level is your main', and something like 50% of players voted that they had a character 50 and up. So, if that's accurate then that means there is a lot of high level players running around. And there will only be more, because you're 60 forever (for now). I mean doing '/who all 60' in-game will usually cut you off with the number of results it generates, so that gives you an indication of the number of high levels right there.

Anyway just pointing out in response to some people who said that 60s are a small number. If one out of 50% has a 50+ thats quite a bit, and since it's the end of leveling, Verant have to make those players happy with new places to go and stuff, so that they don't stop playing. Therefore high level expansions will always be rather frequent, it just makes sense.

Umm thats it I think, except that I don't have any kind of problem with PoP at all. When i'm 50+ and I want it i'll buy it and if not /veto. =)

Anyone complaining about PoP expansion, there is one word to explain it--Money. Do you think VI cares about anything but money? If it were my job, I would want to keep it. EQ has done a good job at keeping several hundred thousand people interested in this game. People that pay them every month. Pretty impressive to me!

There must be something said about the 60th level players. Obviously they play EQ, and a lot. Why should VI NOT be worried about pleasing this group of people. Makes sense to me! Even considering that my highest Character just BARELY dinged 49 last night. Obvious this group of people with 60th level players IS a significant portion and hence the expansion.

This is just MY two cents, take it how YOU want to!

I just hope there aren't higher hardware requirements for this expansion than Luclin required. I, myself do not have deep pockets (not like the rogue guild hehehe) to buy a whole new machine to play the game. I am maxed out with what I can afford. Oh well. With VI making about 4 MILLION per month off the old rates... why are they getting greed to increase them by 40% or so.... I'll be making the 2 year sign-up purchase to save a little anyhow. Their main problem with the Luclin zones is that they are just too big. If they have made each one about 25% smaller there would have been very little problems. I.E. make Shadow Haven and East and a West like the old world cities... they work fine.

I'll probably get flamed, but I am one that really believes in putting substantial forethough into a project and the architecture. Oh well.... let the blastings commence....

think about this for a reason why they need more cash at 4 million per month. approxiamately 100 GM's, who recently recieved pay raises so that they would be happier in their work and put up with whiny newbs. then think of the 40 or so servers that are up 24 /7 and have to be maintained CONSTANTLY. then consider the money that goes into the creation of a game in the first place, and stick that in the place of how expensive creating new expansions constantly goes. the cost raise is justified, and cmon guys, its 3 buck a month, or if you paay 6 months rates, 2 bucks more a month.

There is one reason I think that they made a expansion for 55+ lvls is because casual gamers are getting to lvl 60 now so there are to many uber people on each server for the few uber lvl raid zones so now they are making a expansion to make it so there is enough uber mobs to go around.

They should finish what they started before making a new expansion. The more expansions the more zones that where supposed to be in the game but not put in. m

Y'know, there is a slight problem with this. With all of the new hardware that they obviously have, I don't know if people would want a new zone like for the one original elf city next to oasis or something. They'd have to go through a lot of hassle to make the graphics concurrent with people in the old world that can only lay the old world. And I think that once they finish a world, they rarely add new zones, unless it is like planes. Not sure though, I would have to do my homework on the whole subject and story of Norrath a lil more in depth to get a sure argument going. Just a lil copper for my thoughts. :D

For some strange reason, I sat and read this entire thread with all the things about Druids, Shamans, Wizards, etc. People need to keep in mind that noone forced them to make the character that they did. If you think youre gonna want ports, make a porting character. For buffs, make a buff character, etc., but NEVER act like anyone owes you anything. On the same hand, if someone does you a favor, show your gratitude, whether it be by way of pp, buffs, or even just a kind word of thanks. I just happen to be a 52 Wizard. My portal fragments cost me just a bit over 1pp each. I TL for free much more than I do for donations, but if I run a bit low on funds, I may auction ports for donations. I never dictate how much that donation will be. That is up to the grateful or ungrateful individual being ported. At the same time, an abusive person WILL be remembered much longer than the one that donated or gave you that cool buff. It's kinda sad, but it seems that the greed and rudeness continues to grow on a daily basis. I, personally, agree that kindness will come back many times over, thus I have no problem helping people in need. Damn shame some cant grow up enough to form a solid reputation for their character. I pattern Sav after my RL beliefs. Perhaps others should do the same. Just my 2 cp......(TL'ing for bout the next 10 mins while I'm here!!). Donate or not, its up to YOU, but is surely not required!

Right on Man! I'm a mage so i cant port but I reward generosity like free SOWs, ports, and rezzes with a full suit of summoned plate and if i know they can't summon it, a stack of food and drink.
