More Patch Notes - September 19, 2006

Here is the patch message which followed the additional downtime last night:

September 19th, 2006 - UPDATE
_____________________

*** Please Read ****

Due to issues with granting the extra two character slots to Station Access subscribers we will be temporarily granting these slots to all players. If you are not a Station Access subscriber then these slots WILL be taken away when the issue is fixed. Please do not make characters using these slots unless you are a Station Access subscriber.

- Fixed issue with AA experience while grouping.
- Server stability addressed.
- Non-TSS players will no longer get stuck in the Tutorial.

We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. Thank you for your patience.

I fail to see how playing for a few hours is indicative that someone doesn't have a life/girlfriend/friend/job. Are you saying you haven't played EQ for "a few hours"? No wonder you don't want a new expansion, you're only level 20...

That aside, I doubt 75 came quite as quickly as you seem to think.

yes, yes it did. 24 hours after the release, there were 5 lvl 75's on my server.

If I've said it once, I've said it a 100 times.....

This game is so rich in content that 95% of the players can't make use of the full game with the expansions that are already out. 100% of us casual players will never even hit 60% of the existing content.

These 1-time exploits (15%-20% AA exp per kill) are the only true reason for jumping on the new expansion band wagon. To those that figured it out and got to keep it all, all I can say is 'Giddy-Up'.

To the individual that hit level 75 a few hours after the release (and you know someone did) all I can say is....dude get a life/girlfriend/friend/job.

And for those wondering; I do not have the new expansion. I'll buy it when it hits $9 for the download.

First off.. Sorry you are only level 58, just because someone is better then you, doesn't mean that they have no life, they just might care about the game more?
I read on this board somewhere that there was an exploit where you could shroud to a level 5 or something like 3 weeks before, own crushbone every single day for a hour or so, then, after expansion came out.. They could unshroud and would ding very fast... Whether this was true or not, i dunno.. Nor do i care.. But if you did use MQ or some other exploit to ding 75 in 2 hours... Those are the people who need a life.
I maxed my exp bar a few weeks in advance, and soloed in 69.1 for a few hours on Wednesday, was pretty fun, awesome exps. (got to 50%! WOOT!)

Must admit I am getting really tired (and rolling my eyes quite a bit) over the posts over these patches.

First of all, lets get one thing straight - this is an ONLINE EVOLVING game. That means that every single time there is an expansion launch something goes a little wrong and needs to be fixed. It happens EVERY time, so why people keep being shocked about it is beyond me. Want seamless working game first time? - then go play an PlayStation2 game please.

Secondly, YOU signed up for this game - and YOU are the one who can stop the payment and stop playing. Dont like the changes? - Just quite. But please stop whining about it, no purpose in that, and its honestly just tiring.

2 extra character slots - sure I would love that too. But doesnt change the fact that I chose to play this game based on what I KNEW before this expansion launch, and that meant 8 slots on my server. The 2 extra slots are OPTIONAL, and they charge extra for it. Dont want to pay that, then dont get them - simple and easy, and the best part - your amount of slots are STILL exactly what you expected them to be 3-4 days ago!

PLEASE stop whining about SoE giving us different options, depending on what we want outta the game, and how much we want to invest.
There are zones some players will never see, cause they arent playing on that level - live with it, and enjoy the HUGE game thats available to you.
There are items you might never get - accept it and live with it, or make the decision to do what it takes to get them, and live with that.

Too many people are too focused on what they are NOT getting - instead of what they are actually getting for about the price of a movie+pizza friday evening.

--- the only "whines" I think are justified are the ones over longstanding functionality bugs that arent fixed (like the bugged guildwindows). But whining about patches changing the game - PLEASE, think about what you are signing up to when you get the game. Its an evolving online game, and NOT a singleplayer offline game, where you are guaranteed to be the best, and be able to get everything in game.

Alot of people say that SoE are so much worse than other companies... that "the other" MMORPGS arent so bugged, etc. Please - go play those games if you really feel that way, the games I have tried (UO, DAoC, SWG, WoW), arent any different at all. They all have the same issues, though I admit the companies might use different schedules to deal wit them.

I played EQ since 1999 and I still love this game, it has its quirks and it as its personality - I love seeing how the game, zones, chars, even UI has evolved over the years. But do I want to go back to the "old days before SoE" ?? Absolutely not - playing in 680x480 resolution where 70% of the screen are filled with grey boxes are vastly overrated *gg* !

Thank you SoE for continuing to make a good game - and a thank you from many of us who might be silent but are actually happy about our game generally. Dont fall into the trap of trying to please everyone all the time - keep the game fun, challenging, diversive, and evolving.

PS: And do try to fix the "true" bugs that are still out there :)

I could not disagree more, I think you should tell soe what you do like and don't like. But, this is not really the place for it, go to the soe forums and post it though. I do believe what we tell them has effects on the ideas they put in the game, if you like it tell them to do more of it, if you don't tell them why you don't like it. This is your game and the game you choose to play. I play it because it is the best for me. But, I do not like a lot of what they have done and I tell them freely. When a better game for me comes out I will have no problem leavening this game for a new one. But, put it on the forums they belong on, soe's forums.

I play on the Test Server.

I completely agree with your message. It's unrealistic to expect things to stay the same. People would become bored. Change is not only needed, but it's inevitable.

I do not like how my passtime has been dumbed down over the years. This fact cannot be denied. Yes, indeed change is necessary, but it's not always enjoyed.

Agree with you 100%. I don't like having to wait on the patches, but it makes the game that much more enjoyable to me when it gets back up and running :). About the 2 extra slots... so what. It could be worse, they could have gone without saying anything at all and after you got your characters in them and twinked they could have taken it away.

With my full EQ sub and EQPlayers, I for one, will not be paying an additional $24.99 just to get 2 slots - that's all Station Access would give me, since I don't have time to do anything else.

I agree that Sony should just, for once, admit they messed up and leave the extra slots for everyone. Overall I doubt that many will be willing, or able, to pay that much extra....
"An Issue with AA Experience"...
# Sep 20 2006 at 7:36 PM Rating: Decent
It was one helluv an issue! AAXP was 18-20% per kill in a full group at level 70 and 71. LoD had no effect on rate of gaining AAs. In an all guild group I knocked out 28aas in about an hour worth of killing things (dinging an AA every few minutes.) I was just afraid they were going to rollback characters when they patched it out. Fortunatly it seems most people were focused on leveling up and didnt notice the bugged aaxp.
The "FREE" slots

Would be nice if SOE for once actually "gave" something to those that have been here for the duration, but no its a business and thier customer service sucks. Its one of the main rasons everyone flee's to a new game when it comes out. Why not just give everyone two new slots instead of making them pay for what has been available for free everywhere else. But they won't.
