Double Experience This Weekend

All players across the server will receive double experience from Saturday morning until Monday at 10am Pacific Time. This message was put up on EQLive in response to the recent player rollbacks. Related Links: - Letter from the Producer - Patch Notes for Wednesday, January 18, 2006 =============================================== Hello, We sincerely apologize again for the problems caused in response to Wednesday's update. We do understand that many characters were rolled back due to actions beyond their control along with those that took direct advantage of the situation. We also understand that many other players that were not rolled back were also affected in indirect ways. This weekend we will be offering double experience to all players. This will require us to take down the servers early tomorrow morning and they should be up and offering the modified experience at 9am PST. This event will run until Monday morning at 10am PST. Once again please accept our apologies for any interruptions this has caused in your playtime. For further details on the problem that occurred and the actions taken please see our previous statement on the EQLive Forums. The EQ Team

Spank SOE's pee pee for making such a stupid blunder. How many updates have they done, how many beta tests have they run? Makes me wonder if SOE cares about anything other than the monthly fee's. Stupid question.

I hope everyone benefits from the double exp, I had recently started new toons and deleted my old ones. Lucky for me that was before the SOE incident, but they are still lower level and developing. So the double exp just power levels them up faster than their skills can increase. Wish I could find a double edged sword that swings as fast and does the damage SOE's does for my warrior!

this all makes me laugh and laugh and laugh. want to know why? because i did what anyone who can read and comprehend what they read should have done. logged in, oh look an MOTD... hmm blah blah blah, npc merchants, blah blah, tradeskill this, blah blah blah, rollbacks.... huh? wtf did that say? ohhh! /camp desktop. oddly enough everyone in my guild did the same thing. one person got rolled back cause he got up for work, got trader on and left. we deduce a taint purchased from him, really only way he could have been affected. net loss for entire guild (over 250 accounts) 2-3 66-67 runes ( wasnt sure EXACTLY how many he had).
sorry to all who lost stuff, but consider it a lesson well learned. read the damn motds and patch messages! unlike anything like this will ever happen again, but if it does... for petes sake log out!

anyhow, off to enjoy some free EXP x2. =D

Incredible experience in Highhold Keep Monster Mission, especially with double experience. My lvl 70 is dinging 2.5 aa's per 20 minute mission and my 52 toon is gaining almost half a full level. Go for it.

The zone is so populated with peeps it reminds me of North Freeport before the Bazaar days. Hehe.

I didn't lose anything after reading about you once rich jerks i really laugh at you guys wasting 100K+ on a twink lol. Damn you people are stupied frist off you can outfit a toon pretty good for less then 1k and if you don't like it big deal out 1k make that in what 20 mins or less. I can't see anyone giving a 1st lvl toon anything more then 1k back in the old days of EQ you died under 10 you HAD to get your stuff back or it would disapper in 30 mins. So take if from a frist school EQ player never over twink and slow spend on the toon cuzz you never know if you want to keep it

Aside for the reaming everyone else has already givin you for being a jackass, id like to point out the whole reason for making a twink.... TO TWINK THEM! Just because your idea of twinked is a Blood Stained Tunic, a SSoY and a Shiny Brass Shield doesnt make other people stupid for doing what they want with their plat on their account. Next time, BEFORE you shoot your mouth off, you should consider how stupid YOU are going to look for posting your gibberish.

On another note Mr. frist school EQ player, you might wanna consider some real schooling, as your spelling, sentence structure and punctuation are atrocious.

Now, you can get back to your farming of CB belts or spider silks, or whatever it is you do to make plat for your uber 1k twinks, and leave the posting to people who actually have something to say. Dismissed.

My take
# Jan 21 2006 at 10:09 AM Rating: Default
My feeling about this whole thing is that Sony Online Entertainment made a mountain out of a molehill. They should have done 1 of 2 things and apologized for the error. Brought the servers down ASAP - they have done this before and it sucks but that's life. Then with servers down tracked all the purchases and rollback people to just before the purchase. OR they could do what they did and limit the removal to first person contacts with vendors and let the rest go, to hell with the "Game Economy" impact.

Then my take on the "Game Economy". EQ actually has a real world revenue greater in scope than 20 or so countries gross national product in the third world. With this draconian and systematic reversal of THEIR error, the steps taken lead me to believe that SOE is an actual participant in online platinum sales for EBay player cash. My logic here is simple and straight forward. Ever since these "plat for cash" online sites have sprung up, the in game economy has been so inflated that it's lucrative to save X hours farming to buy that piece of gear you can't get any other way. SOE's overkill protection of the current economy makes them party to keeping the system exactly as it stands. In turn, asking Why? you get the answer - they have a stake in the current game economy. Period.

Bottom line - I'm in the game more for the community and friends I make. I'm angry as hell at SOE for the slapdown they gave people like my cleric friend who got a donation rezzing and lost no drop gear from a high end zone he'll likely not have a good chance at again. He's told me he intends to quit EQ - I can't blame him. I'm ready to stop giving my 15 a month too.
WTF
# Jan 21 2006 at 8:31 AM Rating: Decent
Am I missing something. None of my toons are affected but If you spend 100K on equip and spend the day going from lvl2 to lvl 10. When you get rolled back you lose the lvls and the equip but you should get pp back. If you gave the pp to that toon from another toon shouldn't that toon have been rolled back also...ie:no net loss.
I think most people that lost more than the "time" they played during this probably were swapping pp/equip around to avoid the loss and ended up getting burnt.
RE: WTF
# Jan 26 2006 at 2:46 PM Rating: Decent
You misunderstand how this works. they SHOULD have gotten their money back for something they bought but SoE is a group of people who can't do anything right. So say you were farming those days and get like 50k worth you were doin great. You give money to a tainted toon and camp.
Your tainted toon will get rolled back but the toon u farmed with won't be. So you would have lost 50k and it wouldnt have returened to your other character. Also SoE did take like 1 month worth of cash from some people cuz they ***** up everything.
This is what they mean by losing stuff.
What about?

I had the misfortune of getting a grandmaster's item made, one I have been trying to find for over a month..wham it is gone along with all the gear and spells I bought. Why did they have to roll back just as I was finally upgrading all my gear! Did I loose it all...2 AA, grandmaster and time. So now I start all over again since the roll back gave me back what I had spent..oh wait I work this weekend @.@ now I even loose the chance for double exp!

I still think they should have taken it down when they found THEY had made a mistake and not make US pay for THEIR own mismanagement, are they trying to run us off to WOW?

Thats what pisses me off more than anything. The rollbacks were annoying, and even tho I got hit with 1 rollback (without even buying from temp vendors or other people at all) I wasn't hurt too bad. Just lost some AAs among other things. And when I got home from work to see double exp for the weekend I was actually kinda happy, even tho I work weekends. But it takes 4 hrs of downtime to get this started? And most likely another 4 on Monday morning. So that is no exp for me today. A few hours tomorrow, and none on Monday....I would have been better off EXP-wise with no changes at all...ghetto.

Just give us some stupid potion with enough charges to use at our conveinence. Or better yet, add some temp AA type thing like Lessons of the Devoted that once activated, lasts for the same period of time they intended. Whatever. Not sure why I care. Just annoys me.
SoE helps the plat farmers
# Jan 21 2006 at 4:42 AM Rating: Decent
Alot of people actually made plat from this situation. They would give their plat to an alt, then take their character and purposely get tainted so they could get rolled back to before they traded the plat. Since they traded the plat before becomming tainted the alt keeps the plat, and the rolled back toon would also get the plat from before trading - so basically they could double their plat. Then if that's not enough, they could go back and do it again if they wanted to. Trade to another alt, become tainted again and get rolled back yet again with the plat back in place, and on the alt.

The fact of this is that toons unknowingly bought stuff from these traders. it isnt like the incident in high hold where toons were converting copper( 1000 ) into plat (1000)because someone hacked the system. SOE banned the toons that did that why cant you do the same here instead of ******** almost everyone on every server

Hey bud, I lost 200kpp worth of gears due to rollback, but do you see me whining about it? I don't think so. Losing 100kpp isn't so bad since it is easy to farm it back in a day, or even in anhour if your lucky.

Plus, the exp bouns is sweet so get to busy grinding all your exp/aaxp over weekend. I am pretty sure someone can get around 100aa over weekend with the double exp bouns! :)

How in the world can you LOSE 100k when the only things that were changed were things involving exploited items or items that should not have been available?

Also I take it since you get double experience for the weekend and also if you use the veteran AA modifier, you will be getting 400% exp during that time, bonus!!
RE: oh please
# Jan 20 2006 at 9:03 PM Rating: Decent
Do you people bother reading or listening at all? Character1 exploits merchant, then goes /trader.....char2 thru char10 buy from trader, then go trader themselves, involving 50-100 other people as well....items were tainted by the mere purchase and/or contact with the inital offender...entire shared banks were wiped out (not just affected items)....the plat generated and traded and exchanged in any number of ways was removed. The whole situation was not all that different from the AIDS epidemic in how it can BECOME an epidemic. Ultimately it is the response by SOE that lacked foresight, good judgement, and most importantly common sense.

Don't know how he lost 100k.You could lose 100k by creating a level 1 character and then twink with 100k worth of gear and then get rolled back the next day?

Don't know about that case, i know i lost about 14k worth for armor i purchased at the baz on my necro i had started the night before serverup. Lost 8 lvl's spells, and the gear, AND my shared bank was wiped.

Only had 700-800pp but others had there shared banks wiped as well, and they had considerably more.

People lost 100k because the GM's Farked up the whole rollback system and deleted non affected loot. I am pretty pissed because half of the people I know are affected, but hey, 2x xp, doesn't bother me.

Totally True!! My roomate made a new little twink, went to the bazaar and spent 180k on gear, weapons and bags...got up to lvl 8, and "WIPE"... Found himself sitting in the bazaar, NAKED!! Guess he bought stuff from the wrong Traders... After petitioning, he finds they would not reimburse his losses... The next day, he figures he will eat the loss, and, thinking it is over and done with, He Twinks up his alt again... gets back up to almost lvl 9 and BOOM... he is back in the bazaar again...NAKED!! All they would tell him is something about BETA NPCs and we all had no clue what that was about... Only bought stuff from PC Traders... So, 320k later, he has a naked lvl 2 alt sitting there... Kinda sad for someone who made the mistake of buying from someone who had clearly made a purchase from a BETA NPC... And with the various pieces of armour and weapons and bags, he had no idea who it might have been.. I think that is a bit strong to punish someone that far down the line...And if a roll back is to set you back to where you were before the initial occurance, then why did they not roll the 320k plat back INTO his bank ?? I thought a roll back put you back into the same situation and time that was before this all happened... And by the way, he is not one of those that buys his plat... He has a couple of high lvl toons that worked a lot of hard hours to earn that plat... I feel that is kind of a sad situation... So Sony can punish a few (and a few innocent bystanders, as well) And everyone gets to reap the great reward of double xp for a week end.. I was not affected by the roll back, but I would gladly give up MY double xp for my friend to recoup his losses!! My sympathy to all the other innocents out there who were inadvertently affected by this HUGE ERROR that SONY made :(

All this talk about money... that's the greed that made people exploit the merchants in the first place. What about all the raiders who spent the time in question busting their butts in Tacvi or Anguish or fighting Vishimtar or Mayong Mistmoor...? Then, just before they log, they accept a donation for buffing somebody in the Guild Lobby... Somebody tainted...

<poof> Tacvi boss loot (won with guild Dragon Kill Points, of course)? Yeah, it's gone.

<poof> Quest progress towards Breakdown in Communication completion? Yup. Tongue of the Tunat'muram? Gone.

<poof> Three DoD spell arc missions that you did with a pick-up group, sweating bullets to keep 'em alive as that mob in 68.3 got tougher and tougher? Yeah, gone.

All because my cleric and druid rezzed and buffed tainted toons.

His bad. I am sure he didn't realize your issues held more weight than his friend's did. Whatever was lost, the majority of people who lost stuff worked to get it. I don't know a single person that actually bought stuff from the temp vendors. Yet, I also don't know a single person that didn't get rolled back. Your problems are no greater than his. Regardless of whether it is plat or raid stuff. Everyone lost. You aren't special.
