Guild Wars 2: Heroic Edition and Trial Weekend

The new Guild Wars 2 Heroic Edition is out now and tomorrow starts a free trial weekend.

In celebration of the one-year anniversary of Guild Wars 2 in addition to setting the record for the fastest selling MMORPG, ArenaNet is releasing a new Heroic Edition of the game as well as hosting a free trial weekend.

The new Heroic Edition of the game is replacing the standard edition while keeping the same price of $49.99. In addition to the game, players will receive digital items targeted to help new players.

  • One Legacy Armor -- Players will be able to select between the Profane, Krytan or Primeval Gem Store armor sets modeled after classic GW1 armor.
  • Mithril Box -- This box will expand your characters inventory by an extra 18 slots.
  • 10 Experience Boosters -- Providing 50% increased XP from kills for an hour, these boosters will help new players get a quick start in the game.

These digital items have also been added to the Digital Deluxe editions of the game (including the upgrade available through the Gem Store). You can purchase either the Heroic or Digital Deluxe editions online through ArenaNet now!

If you are still not sold on GW2, you can check out the free trial over the weekend. The trial starts tomorrow, August 23 at 12:01 am Pacific and lasts through Sunday, August 25 at 11:59 pm Pacific. Players can register and download the client right now by creating a free trial account at https://register.guildwars2.com/trial.

Why not a trial week?

Why just a weekend? Not everyone can play on the weekend, especially people who are usually raiding in other games on the weekend. Having a trial the whole week would let people with other schedules give it a try too. Just my 2 cents.

Better than nothing. Get off of your raid schedule for a few hours!
