Imperial Crackdown: Contraband Facts

Reported by Thunderheart on the SOE official SWG community forums in testing: Based on community input, we have made the following changes to the Imperial Crackdown penalty schema. Thanks go to San Tsu and the Smuggler community and Jester and the Galactic Civil War community. All of these changes aren’t on Test Center yet, but here is what you can expect. Some basics on how the Crackdown works: Random searches will be conducted as part of the Emperor’s Crackdown on rebel activity. Contraband is: Rebel Faction Equipment, Spice, Sliced weapons and armor. Player items are not confiscated. “Crackdowns” occur in the wilderness, “Shakedowns” occur in Planetary Cantinas (not player Cantinas) If Imperial Search Parties find contraband on your character and you are... Imperial, the penalty is: Overt Imperial Officers: None. All junior officers will salute their superiors. High Rank Covert: High Ranking officers will be acknowledged and saluted as directed by the Emperor. Low Rank: (Identified as having little or no Faction Points spent on Rank): Low Ranking officers found in possession of contraband must pay tribute to the Emperor. Low ranking Imperial soldiers will be given the choice of sacrificing Faction Points or paying a fine. Rebels, the penalty is: Overt: Imperial Search party will open fire as per orders of the Emperor. Covert: Covert Rebels will be identified to all surrounding Imperials (Turned Overt) Neutral, the penalty is: Imperial Citizens will be warned and lose faction points or be fined. Smugglers have additional bonuses to escape Imperial Scans: Novice Smugglers with “underworld” abilities will have a 15% chance to evade contraband searches plus an additional 15% for each skill box and Master Smugglers add another 20% for a total of 95%. Players in both the wilderness and cantinas may avoid shakedown searches if grouped with smugglers for the same bonuses. Thanks for getting involved and offering positive, well thought out feedback. The developer offered me some additional detail: And Neutral caught in the scans pay a fine and if they are unable to afford the fine lose imperial faction. Contraband scanning will also take place in the 3 imperial controlled cities (Mos Espa, Kor Vella, and Kadaara). In order to receive the smuggler bonus from being grouped with the player the smuggler must be within range (35m)

Vader is at that building on naboo, I think it's a POI. Anyways you have to be imperial to get into the building and you must do multiple missions from multiple npcs in order to meet vader.
sliced weapons

if your imp, low ranking grunt soldier, what will happen to your weapons that are sliced if found?
Faction?!

TAking the faction away to prevent "farming" of storm troopers? That's stupid. These are "elite troops" you telling me my army isn't going to reward me for blasting elite troops to dust? Shame on anyone for even considering that.

finally they added something that actually reminds you of star wars.
hey im a reb on one server and an imp on the other i think this will be really fun for both first of all as soon as i can im gonna get my imp high ranking and second of all im gonna be burst running my *** outta there on my reb cause im no great fighter when it comes to combat lol, great job devs keep it up
High rank?
# Feb 05 2004 at 1:46 PM Rating: Decent
I'm just curious what the cutoff is. I'm an imperial WO1, does that mean I get saluted or fined? lol
what a crock of sh...

well i think its a loads of crap and im imp and heres a couple of pointers i want to share will u all from my experience from other online games that they started to **** around with like this.
1 ) PPl will stop being smugglers as they wont have nothin really to do to make money
2 ppl will stop being armoursmiths as they wont make much money no more as composite armour will be less sort after as not alot of ppl can wear a full suit of comp without slicing something on it
3) every1 fighter in the game will turn commando as lightning cannons and other weapons r crap if not sliced and the flamer is a really gd weapon even unsliced
4) every1 will turn imp and get a high rank so they wont get any penalties so game will no longer have a point to it as rebs will just vanish what fun is that if u cant kill anymore rebs hehe
so thats what i think and its just my oppinion so dont start given me a hard time just sit back and think about it coz im off now to get a high rank so i dont get any penalties hehe and if i do on the way so what im rich who care about a fine lol
stormtrooper advantage

Defending against 10 stormtroopers will be nearly impossible in a crowded cantina where the lag slows your reaction to nothing. Do something about the lag before you add more objects to the mix.

Rebels complain, imperials complain...this seems to be a fair and decently even-handed solution in my opinion.

to all the rebel players using the "but we're the winning side" argument: 'winning' doesnt mean owning from day one...look at WW2 if you have any doubts of the losses suffered by the 'winning team' of a war.

to all the rebel players saying "bring it on, i can handle 10 stormtroopers at once": i sincerely hope you get DBed every single time, with massive wounds and decay. that should shut you up. realistically, no one screws with 10 elite police force agents and lives to spit on their corpses without so much as a limp. if this is done right, you will be eating your words from the toasty side of a stormtrooper elite crabine.

to all the imperial players thinking you'll be on top of the world now: the rebellion (ie reb players) will be gunning to take out its frustrations on you, most likely, not just the NPC stormtroopers who made them overt. be prepared for an actual war...hopefully an interesting one.

to all the neutral players griping about how "unfair this is": staying neutral in a war of such a galaxy wide scale is harder than you may think. life as you know it will be different for your characters, as they will have to (oh no) ACTUALLY balance both sides. too many imperial friends, the Rebs will hunt you, contraban items, the Imps will come down on you. the empire doesnt, shouldnt, and wont tolerate dissention.

to all the smugglers: congratulations and apologies. you will now actually be smuggling things, as many of you wanted, but your services will be less requested (at least by Rebs and lowranking Imps). i hope you find the balance to make your character fun to play.

to all the Weapon and Armor smiths: i dont think people realize how utterly, utterly indispensible you are. i thank you all for your work at holding the game together, even in the face of some poor choices and the holocraze. please continue to do so in the future by offering more unsliced items for purchase. thank you again.

to all the people who want to offer constructive criticism or other comments: thank you. fresh ideas dispell stagnation and promote health.

to all the people who whine and flame and annoy: you make gaming and life in general less fun.

I am a Rebel,TKM/Pistoleer and I think this Imp crackdown patch is going 2 rock because I look at it this way> I get searched no problem because: for one I am always buffed and have food/drinks in me and for two: I don't have much of a problem taking out 3/4 fierce pikets at once so really what are ten wimpy little storm troops going to do lol. OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW I cant wait 2 whoop some Imperial butt GJ Devs :)

The dev's have already said that they will add an entry to the weapon/armour examine window to show if it is sliced or not. This won't come in until the next update, Phase 7.
sliced equipment

but will the player be able to tell which pieces of his/her equipment is sliced or not before entering an area that is searched. as it is now you don't know till you try to get them sliced and some of the gear is sold pre-sliced that would make it hard on the neutral/covert rebs that don't even know if they have a sliced wpn/armor.
So its a smuggler nerf?
# Feb 04 2004 at 5:20 PM Rating: Default
what would stop the Smugglers from just FDing when the serches happen? still making the underworld line compeltely useless. also i see a pretty nice ***** job on smuggler profits since now people will be less willing to get things sliced. less willing to buy spices. Seems smugglers dont get helped they get nerfed.

why are there so many dam rebels? life is great in the empier.at least they have an excuse to rebel now, and it will also make the lop-sided ratio of rebs to imps a bit more believable

In the case of the sliced weapons and armor, what if you don't know they have been sliced? I know that some people have sell sliced weapons and armor, but not tell the person who was buying it that it have been slice, I myself when to someone to slice a weapon I have brought and find out then that it had alreally been slice before. And no where in the details of this weapon before I have brought did it said it was sliced, it seller should have said it in the seller's notes about the item.
NOT FAIR TO THE NEUTRALS
# Feb 04 2004 at 4:22 PM Rating: Default
Hey, that's not fair. That's forceing the issuse to be a reb or imp. It's not fair to those who want to be Neutral [as in stay at 0 reb and 0 imp faction points]. Some of us wants the collect those items their homes and it would be hard to go to a bazaar and just buy these items and the next we know we got the imps mad at us. It's not like we plan to use the items.
either way...
# Feb 04 2004 at 3:06 PM Rating: Default
Hmm, so either way, if you are a non-smuggler rebel, you will be fired on by the stormtroopers lol? I guess it makes sense... but why not just say... If you a rebel with contraband, you will be fired upon?

WHEN DO WE GET TO KILL VADER??? I DON'T WANNA BECOME AN IMP TO SEE HIM IT WOULD BE COOL TO HAVE VADER TRAVEL AROUND AND VISIT IMPERIAL CITYS AND STUFF LIKE THAT KINDA LIKE PARADES...THEN WE COULD KILL HIM AND BE DONE WITH THE EMPIRE....
RE: REBELVOICE
# Feb 04 2004 at 2:27 PM Rating: Default
good idea, it would be cool to see a imperial parade all the stormtroppers marching around and waving there banners, and then vader questioning his high ranking officers and then killing some of them for not following orders, see him use the force, wonder what kinda ham Vader got? i want a vader helmet!!!!

The Devs need to make the contraband searches in the city cantinas random. The only cantinas that are safe would be the player cities. The cantinas in the cities mentioned are rarely visited.

This is awsome now there is actually a point to being a smuggler. it will also add a nice twist to the game.
they should also make underground tree from pistol exp to smuggler exp

My 2 Cents
# Feb 04 2004 at 11:24 AM Rating: Default
OMG, GAME CONTENT!!!! Now there's an actual point to having a faction. OH, BTW HEY DEVS! Before ya nerfed AT-STs did ya ever think about handing over a similar toy to the rebs so they would stop whining? Oh and how about some LOOT! Works for EQ, keeps people playing until they lose their job/marriage/sense of reality. Speaking of wich, if your gonna have multi drop quest loot like the RIS armor, please make sure the stuff actually drops before it goes live. Its easier to become a jedi than to get a pair of RIS boots. And what about a third or fourth criminal/smuggler faction that is player accessable? Nym and Jabba have almost more content written for them than either imp or rebel faction. Oh and the dynamic bounty hunter missions work great, nothing like hunting for an NPC that is untrackable, at least with a player you can get a /who on them some times and at least pop em on your friends list. What I really think you should do though is open up the battle fields again and UNNERF everything, just for the battle field. So much has been nerfed that if everything was unnerfed, people would be competitive again against flamers, poison chuckers, eye shot spammers, etc. Okay thats my rant, til next time.

It should have read like this;

Overt: Imperial Search party will open fire as per orders of the Emperor.
Covert: Covert Rebels will be identified to all surrounding Imperials (Turned Overt).
Turned Overt: Imperial Search party will open fire as per orders of the Emperor.

Hail to the death of AFK dance grinders. For once the imperials are doing everyone a favor. Awsome awsome job! Lol, that'll put an interesting twist on it ;)
RE: no more afkers
# Feb 04 2004 at 3:31 PM Rating: Decent
AFK dance grinding will continue as normal, the grinders will have a droid to store all of their "contraband" in and carry on without being shook down by the boys in white armor. Nothing has changed.
YEAH

I think that this is a great idea!!

I was imperial but was sick of the damned AT-STs that we were given and so have turned rebel and am now a Teras Kasi and Medic (soon to be a TKM and dcotor)

This will also add a more of a panic factor in the cantinas but could be very anoying for entertainers or image designers with muon gold to grind up the tree, though in principal a great idea

DOWN WITH IMPERIALS!!!!
