SOE Welcome Back Program

Players will be compensated game time and more for the extended outage.

UPDATE 8:08p.m. EDT: @j_smedley: Our games are live again!

You must first change your password before you'll be able to login to your game!

Sony Online Entertainment announced around 4:15pm PDT today that it is beginning "phased restoration" of its game services. Also announced is a Welcome Back Program which will compensate every Station Account in good standing with 45 days of game time as long as the account is logged into by 11:59pm PDT on August 31, 2011. In addition to game time, here are some highlights of other special items and events being offered:

Station Access Subscribers: 500 Station Cash (account must be in good standing)
Lifetime Subscribers: Select amounts of in-game currency (CWA, DCUO and Free Realms only)
EverQuest: Double XP, Double Rare Mob Spawns, Double Faction Gains (May 14 - May 22)
EverQuest II: Double XP, Double Guild XP, Loot Bonanza, City Festivals and Moonlight Enchantments, Original Aether Races (May 14 - May 22)
Free Realms: Free Daily Items, 7 total (May 14 - June 15)
Vanguard: Double Adventuring/Crafting/Diplomancy XP, Double Faction Gains (May 14 - May 22)
DC Universe Online: Two-Face Inspired Mask, Batman Inspired Mask, Marks of Distinction (granted to all existing characters)

See this article for a full listing of everything entailed by the SOE Welcome Back Program.

We at ZAM would like to point out that the games may not immediately be up at the time of this posting, so please have some patience while you wait for the login servers to be opened. We'd also like to remind our readers to reset their passwords once you are able to login.

Identity Protection
# May 19 2011 at 4:30 PM Rating: Decent
Has anyone in the US received an email for the identity protection program we're supposed to get? I have not. I reset my password on the very first day and have logged in multiple times; still no email giving me the key to activate the protection. Any news?

I hope this week will be soon over. Double exp and double rares attracts apparently a lot of pol including the bad ones. Got killed by trains, pol stealing mobs and fighting over camps etc. Can't wait till everything returns to normal.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I am getting the underaged message on both of my accounts as well. I tried to get around it by changing some settings on my accounts but nothing worked, and there weren't really even any options to remedy this. If anyone has a solution or heard from SoE about this please post here.

For the record I was able to log in on one of my accounts last night. Then I logged out completely and went to sleep, now I get the underaged thing on BOTH of my accounts. Hope this doesn't eat up too much of my free 45 days

No solution yet. Amnerys tweeted that she reported the issue. I sent a tweet to Smed as well. Other than that, I'm about to go do other things.

What Sony says:

We'll credit your accounts with time!

What Sony did:

Charge credit cards, renewing subscriptions.

What Sony says:

We love our customers and we thank you for your patience, game will be up soon and we'll keep you updated.

What Sony did:

Lame, ambiguious day by day updates until 30 hours before the servers come back up, with little warning first, keeping their customers frustrated and COMPLETELY in the dark.

What Sony says:

We're gonna make this right and offer a welcome back package!

What Sony did:

Insult players with this joke of a "make good package" that angered more players than it did make other players happy.

What Sony says:

Servers are back up!!

What Sony did:

Put them up and walk away thinking "Nothing can possibly ever go wrong again", meanwhile though technically the servers are up, there's no one even around to acknowledge the fact that you can't access the servers to play.

Sony, your approval rating is dropping. These poll numbers are in the toilet. People think you're weak on security, that you have no integrity, your foriegn relations are horrible, and your domestic policies are driving away members of your own party, and your base feels alienated. Let's not even MENTION the recent scandal felt around the world. Perhaps it's time to change your image, hire a new PR firm to mould your image, and maybe talk less, because it seems like every time you open your mouth, there's new talk show fodder with your gaffes. Also, actions speak louder than words. You're facing a tough election coming up this fall, NOW IS THE TIME to get back on track to where you were 4 years ago. There's still time to get back in this race, but you're certainly being handed your hat.

OK let me get this straight. Servers worked fine last night but early this morning they aren't. So what happened? 1) The log-in server got jammed up by one of the Firiona Vie Ogres that can't figure out his password. 2) SOE just got word that today is part of a national holiday in Japan and they weren't supposed to go back live till June. 3) The janitor/code tech SOE has on loan from Blizzard "accidentally" spilled his coffee on the log-in server. 4) Anonymous finally hacked Sony again after working feverishly for five minutes to get past the new security measures 5) It's just time for a regularly unannounced 10 hour game update patch that SOE forgot about till the last minute. 6) A "Rift" has opened up in the new secret Sony server location. 7) Other. What are your thoughts?

I bet that they took them down again till they can have more CS to help with the ones that is haven problems changing thier password. I was in last night ofr a bit but now I can't get in. Or maybe they got word that they were going to be an attack on thier severs and the FBI had them taken down. But I will wait for them to come back up. I also think they may have a few glitches for a few days. I guess we have to wait and see. And by the way I like what you came up with on the reason why they are down again.

Logged in my main account a few minutes ago. Got in and ran around a little bit (note i changed my password yesterday) Put some stuff in my shared bank and logged my rogue.

When my rogue got ingame he had one of his bags on the cursor, and was minus 2 bag slots we got with HoT. So I put them in my bank and logged out to run a full scan.

When I tried to sign back in, I get the message. Operation Timed Out.../sigh

I also changed my password last night and was able to login and play for several hours my guildmates. Had a great time. This morning i also get the error unable to log in. Sigh, guess it was to much to ask for to have the servers up and running with no problems.

I am getting this error after finally being able to change my password as well. I guess the log in servers are borked and they are giving some random error message like this one.

F@%kin ditto man. And after about six tries, I was able to log into the parental controls and guess what? No option for underage settings.

I'm trying about every 2 or 3 minutes to load my subscription plan, but it's locking up with errors.

I think it's the Y2K bug.

Yep... tried all 4 accounts and the only parental settings I can set within the Station Account info is wheather I want a password or not, which does NOTHING. We were really looking forward to playing too >8\

I know the login server is up because if you mistype your password, you will get rejected as an invalid username/password, which would NOT happen if the login server was down.

Is the login server, on the other hand, borked? Seems like it.

Seems like the password changing site is borked already, causing MASSIVE headaches for people. One person decided to go with the e-mail route, never received e-mail from SOE. The customer service response? "Don't worry, I locked myself out for 24 hours doing that."

As for me, I changed the password on only one of my accounts last night and then went to sleep. This morning, my main account apparently doesn't exist or I don't have the correct password (old or new one will not work.)

Bloody headaches all round on this one. And it's Sunday so I don't expect to even begin to see this fixed until Monday at noon when the 2 hippy techs roll out of bed and say "Dude, I don't know why all these people are pissed off at us, peace and love, bro!" Bloody frustration.

Edit 1:

It worked for me (and others) if you clear browser cache and refresh the recovery site before each try.

This worked! IF you have multiple accounts, clear your cache then start a Private session (incognito mode in IE, In Private browsing for Safari... __?__ in Firefox etc), also known as **** mode for those of you who look at that disgusting rubbish. Once you are in private mode, you can do all your accounts without having to clear cache every time.

As an update to my post, I have managed to update my password.
Just keep on trying - it must be that many are trying to do so.
In my case, I got the error message, and when I reloaded the reset page and had a couple of goes, I got a message saying that I had ALREADY reset my password.

So keep on trying :) Good luck!
