Welcome to the New and Improved ZAM.com!

ZAM Network gets a refreshed and rejuvenated landing page complete with new features and better usability.

The Internet is always changing and each day sites hit the World Wide Web with new features, designs, and options for users. Although we had a fondness for our previous look, the ZAM staff knew that we could do things better… make our site bigger, better, faster, and stronger. The results are in front of you.

In addition to the new, non-drab colors and enhanced feature story box, we made a number of improvements that should help you navigate around our entire network. Whether you want to take a trip around the content features on ZAM.com or check out the headlines before heading to Wowhead or MMOUI, everything is accessible by an easy mouse click.

There are lots of subtle changes throughout the site, but below you'll find a few things that are new to ZAM.com and might be of interest to you, our users. Once you’ve read through the changes and had some time to check out the site, we’d like to hear your constructive feedback on what you like or don’t like about the new look, and you can do this by simply logging in and leaving a comment below this article.

Menu and Submenu System

To help facilitate our readers and their navigation preferences, we’ve built a two bar menu system that allows users to click through to specific pages that they’re looking for without a major hassle or having to deal with obnoxious dropdowns.

With a simple click on a top menu category, you’ll be given a list of specific pages within that section. Click again, and you’ll be taken to the section’s overall page where you can do a more general browse for whatever you’re looking for.

Condensed News Feed

News is important, especially that of the breaking kind. However, in our previous iteration the news section dominated our layout, forcing people to scroll through walls of text to find what they were looking for. Now we present a condensed blurb of news posts for you to quickly see the news of the day at a glance.

On top of that, we’ve added game specific tabs on what we consider the hottest games on or coming to market, so you can easily find out what’s the newest piece of content for Star Wars: The Old Republic or Final Fantasy XIV.

Video Page

Unlike our old system, we’ve now made it easy to search through all of our ZAM hosted videos and our most recent episodes of The BFF Report. Here you can find content from our major event trips, including E3, CES, and GDC, along with the latest trailers and videos from upcoming and released MMOs. We’re constantly updating this page, so if you see a video from one of your favorite games and would like to see it uploaded, make sure you let us know!

There you have it folks! ZAM.com is fresh and new, but we’re always looking to make more improvements. If you have any questions, comments, or feedback, please let us know by leaving a response below!

I'm still seeing the old layout and that suits me just fine. I didn't much like the ZAM.com 'upgrade,' but I've gotten used to it. After reviewing the changes being made for the new look, I'm going to bump this site down a few places on my list of sites I try to visit on a daily basis. Might well drop it completely. We'll see how the new look works.

Honestly I preffered the old look, at least the color scheme wasn't glaretastic.

I can understand the need to fix bugs but the old system was so much simpler, IMO, to navigate and much easier on the eyes.

EDIT: yes it is nice to have the vids and screen shots in such an easily accessable spot but the news seems jumbled up.

fix what needs fixing. but leave the look.
Looks aren't everything.

Although a new look might be nice, I think having the content up to date is more important.

When I BROWSE the ABILITIES of a character class, I get a list of the old names for the abilities not the up to date names.

I used to be able to use these lists to know what spells a character needed to
have upgraded. Now the ABILITIES lists are nearly useless.

Allakhazam = Original Coke

Zam.com = New Coke

Why mess with the original formula when it works just fine? We all remember what happened with New Coke, don't we?

I hope those changes aren't planned for the Allakhazam.com website. I spend a lot of time on Alla's, and the glaringly white new look isn't nice to this old researchers eyes - especially at night. I like Alla's just the way it is. But if you're going to stuff it all up anyway, then at least mirror the current layout so that us "old-schoolers" can log in to the mirror site and continue being happy with what we have now.

Or at the very least give the option to choose the layout style, as a few other sites have done.

The colours aren't very nice, but more importantly the new navigation system is a huge huge downgrade. I have to click so many times, the drop downs are much better. The other complaint I have is that the forums are narrow and don't expand to fit my screen. Please don't make changes like this to the wow skin.

I agree... it looks way too similar to Facebook when all I'm looking for is News. Not a fancy layout that's pointlessly difficult to navigate. This is a NEWS site, right? Because right now, all I'm getting is tons of White Screen and difficulty navigating through it all. I miss being able to scroll down the main page and see all the daily news right there. No need reinventing the wheel on this one...

Confirmed. Gross.

I prefer the look that was two generations ago, personally. News dominating the page was what I liked, since I don't read or do anything else on this site.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Love the new look, easier to navigate the website, but please make different posting categories for the FFXIV fourm instead of just one big general posting area.

I think it'd make more sense to keep the FFXIV forums in their current form until closer to launch when more info starts flowing, or at least until the beta is underway.

We're looking into it. The problem is if you create too many forums the discussions will be so spread out not everyone will see them. We just want to make sure if we create more forums for XIV that they will be active.

Good idea. This is why it took a while to convince Alla to allow FFXI server forums, though I could see why. I mean... the race forums are just a waste of space.
