I was skimming through mmo-champion forums and I came across this gem. A user by the name of Mamytwink had an opprotunity to do some testing of WoD Shadowmoon Valley. I will let him finish the rest. I would not click if you don't want to be molested by super spoilers.

At the end of the Alliance Zone, Ner’zhul creates a « Dark Naaru ». To purify it Velen sacrifies himself and dies. After this, you follow Maraad to fight the Iron Horde Army that attacked Karabor. You kill all Orcs.

Source.

It seems to be legit from what I can dig up. Really intriguing and it sets up certain npcs like Yrel or Maraad to lead the draenei.

Edit: Here is a link to his website where he discusses the five hours it took him to go through Shadowmoon Valley. Again, spoiler heavy so you have been warned. Also french. All the spoilers.

The real question is if they'll follow through and make the Draenei relevant to anything. They've had some roles in the EU stuff, but that's about it, realistically.

Velen as a character made sense when they were sort of pursuing the peace angle in BC. He ceased to make any sense in Wrath, when the writers randomly decided that no leader but Thrall and Varian mattered, and randomly sky-rocketed Garrosh up the level of General for no good reason.

No room for a voice of peace and reason when you're aggressively writing the story such that neither have any place...

The Velen that dies is not the one from our timeline. Our Velen doesn't go through the portal. From what I understand Maraad is the one that joins us and he is the one that ends up leading the retaliation fight.

But I agree on your "no room for a voice of peace" statement. It seems as though Blizzard is pushing a real strong conflict this expansion. Less about trying to find peace and more about beating the hell out of crap.

It would be really cool if we could get a definitive answer from Blizz about the time travel BS.

Because seriously.

I agree but really alternate timeline is the only thing that would make sense. Otherwise you start encountering horrendous paradoxes.

OR you just don't start with a ****** time travel scenario in the first place.

You know. Either or.

Maybe they could go back and rescue some now-extinct whales which are necessary to save the planet from some crazy alien machine?

I can't take any time-travel scenario too seriously, it screams: "we thought of a really awesome idea of where to take thing, only it totally doesn't fit with current lore." Time travel fixes all. That being said, it's all just story at this point. If they make the it interesting and compelling enough I'll overlook the endless paradoxes and problems that are inevitable. Because, you know, a wizard did it. Smiley: nod

I'd also love to see the stories on both sides of the portal come together better.

I was under the impression we are not time traveling in this expansion, but an alternate world is being linked.
Real simple time line (wiki, books, w/e if you want deeper timeline):

-Orcs drink Mannoroth's blood > Orcs go through Dark Portal > All the stuff that happens in WC 1, 2,3 and WoW (up to SoO in MoP).

-Siege of Orgrimmar happens

> (and then this is what I understand to happen:) Garrosh is captured and is going to be judged > He cons a dragon from the Bronze flight to do some weird Dragon magic and make the Dark Portal become a Time Portal > Gorrosh flees into the portal that lands him on Draenor before (exact time? Before Ner'zhul's "betrayal") the Orc clans drank Mannoroth's blood.> *Attempts to make a strong Horde, with the idea of opening the Dark Portal to come back through to conquer Azeroth.* > Creation of an alternate Draenor.

*Time is a funny thing, what could have been seconds on one side of the Portal, could have been years on the other side. This seems to be the time theory Blizz has decided with.

As I typed this I was looking for a spelling of a name, and then found this wiki page that is close to how I'm understanding the new expansion to be.

I now wonder if Wrathion is actually part of this idea, because he "sided" with the alliance but was hella pissed when W/e the Kind's name is didn't take over Orgimmar. Could he have planted the idea in Kairozdormu?

Smiley: laugh Yeah that would be the best option.

Oh well. Let's find how how well the story turns out in Draenor. Also all the screen shots.

Edit:

Could very well be. I recall Wrathon favoring the horde but when Garrosh went bat crazy he decided that the alliance would be the better bet. Will have to do some digging to find out if my memory isn't crap.

Edit2: Found the info I was looking for.

Wrathion says: I thought Hellscream's victory was assured before he turned half his Horde against him. So I changed my allegiance.

The most confusing bit of this, of course, is that they still have some really quality plot threads they could be exploring. I just don't understand this expansion theme... I mean, you'd think now would be the perfect time to pull out the big guns, to ramp their subscribers back up and get them paying attention to the new systems in place.

I can't help but feel like waiting another 3 years for the Burning Legion expansion is just... bad planning.

I mean, let's be honest, since they decided to take away the "Garrosh dies" satisfaction in the first place, there's no good reason Garrosh couldn't do the alternate timeline thing down the road, if their hearts were set on it...

That ship sailed a long, long time ago, like a Spanish galleon on its way to effortlessly topple a primitive stone age civilisation. There've been stupid time travel scenarios all over the shop since tBC.

That said, almost all time travel **** is dumb as ****, and it'd certainly be nice if people eased off a bit with it.

I think Blizzard's attitude is more running down the clock than planning a resurgence, to be honest.
