I might have missed it, are there any plans for a new EQ expansion release this autumn? Any news from SOE?

Short answer, yes.

I don't think anything official has been annoounced as to the content yet, I would guess maybe it will be announced at Fanfare.

I also found this post:

Two New EverQuest Expansions Trademarked
Underfoot and EverQuest II: Sentinel's Fate may be on the way.

If you examine the links on that post carefully they do link to United States Patent and Trademark Office official website pages. I suspect the rumors about this next expansion are indeed founded.

Posted today on Eurogamer.net in a post title Expansions Announced for Everquests

SOE announced the 16th expansion for the original EverQuest. Called Underfoot, it will be released in November 2009, and allow you to explore a new underground zone.

Boy, I'm sure there will be more interesting details to come but "exploring a new underground zone" doesn't tickle my fancy at this point. I've had my fill of zones with stalactites over my head and mushrooms growing everywhere---even if some of them are sentient.

Wow what a let down...

Like holy geez, this is a major let down... I can grind out AAs in all sorts of zones now without going over 85, why would I need to buy an expansion for this priviledge in November? I do hope someone reconsiders this, and writes it up as an oversight or poor planning. Like really, how many of us are already maxed out with no bank space left?

maybe try to make a consensus on how many players that are all maxed out comparing to the ones that still not even at 2/3 of the max lvl and AA... maybe SoE knows more than what you know

Then those players clearly don't need an axpansion at all - they have 15 other expansions to work through right?
