I have played 3-6 hours a night, 330+ days a year since November 2002.

Number of GM events I had *heard* about: maybe 4.

Number of GM events I have witnessed in any form: zero.

We get these?

im not saying GM events should bevery night or two...but one every month would be nice. A well thought-out event, with real rewards. ive been to one event in Bb where a halfling stole money from the kaladim banker. i tracked him down, killed him, my reward? bunch of crap noob gear. i should have took his offer on splitting the loot and not killed him.

maybe even an event or two in lower zones like kurns or something, if there is anyway to lockout higher level chars for an hour or two so the lower levels can enjoy an event without anguished flagged guilds running to down whatever pops without a trace of roleplaying.

I have been playing since November of 2002 on 3 different servers and I have seen one GM event in all that time on line

I have played for quite a while and ran into a few GM events but would really say it was more a holiday events like for halloween with EK and Rathe Mts or Santa the gnome on Christmas.

Like 3-4 years ago they used to have a lot of Arena events like Best of the Best for classes, last man standings, last team standing and announce em a few weeks in advance, the winner would get prizes and a special name.

Also one time like 4-5 years ago in me early early days huntin at SK spires I got way laid by some named treants. We formed up and tried to take em as a group and got one to like 10% afore his 2 buddies came and whacked us. Had no idea about multi group tactics at that point =P.

Only other one which I think discoraged Dankurt (FV gm) as much as us was I saw him a couple times saying in GM talk that he would give a special reward for whoever brought him Trak or someother dragons head for a reward, and it appeared no one ever took him up on it ( I could be wrong) but after a couple of shouts he would switch the name of who he wanted to be killed to someone easier and so on. So at least in his case and its a super rare one about a GM who was much loved by a server and loved it back.

I dont really count things like the "War" as a "GM event" sure I saw the armies but 4-5 times that I went to scout them out I was able to walk freely through all armies, and on one occasion I even watched a froglok army walk through a division of Ykesha's in Inothule. Ya ok the one time the frogs messed me up but they wouldnt have if I hadnt assumed they wouldnt attack me even after they conned scowling cause they hadnt the 4 other times I had checked em out in the previous weeks, and again they had just walked through a division of Ykesha's army who not only didnt attack them but let me die in front of them. (DE necromancer btw)

To be fair except for me I never talked to or heard about anyone who cared about "War" in my alliance or guild, well until it was absolutely confirmed that they were engaging in war which was like 1-2hours in like 2-3 weeks by my figurin spread over two zones. (inothule and Gfay)

The GM events I remember were from the early days of playing EQ when Verant was in charge of things.. I have seen none since sony took over... and heard about maybe 2 or 3 happening. They used to be much more common as the first year I played I participated in about 3 or more GM events and they were really fun stuff. I remember one in the Great Divide, and another in South Karana.. which was prob the favorite one I participated in and another in the East Commonlands. The lore was awsome and they were a pleasant distraction from the daily grind.

This type of fun is missed greatly, as is the great old fun zone of the OLD POM. That zone even tho it was unfinished was one of the greatest zones in EQ. LONG LIVE OLD POM!

well in the recent past they've had:

The Retaking of Grobb
The Firiona Vie War (which included several GM events)
The Werewolves in the Commonlands
The Halloween Stuff
The Queen of Hearts
The Best of the Best Arena Events

All of these as far as I can remember happened within the last year.

Now unless you play on Stormhammer or something, the frequency of these events is kind of sparce.

Grobb was scripted with no GM involvement so doesn't count

FV was pre Lucin so what 6 expansions ago?

Werewolves are scripted so don't count

Halloween is scripted so doesn't count

best of the best is just a PvP b*tchfest for braggind rights

so that leaves Queen of hearts in 3 years... Whoopie.

What I'd really like to see are some GM quests, not events.

I play on The Tribunal. I have not heard of one before it happened, or while it was happening... ever. I've been playing since April 05. I also work nights and play till about 5am pacific most of the time. I can't even find a gm most of the time. Do they exist anymore? Are they day shift people only? Bah.

It's not the number of events, as much as the quality or the originality of them. Sure, I've seen several 'Best of the Best' events and frankly, I roll my eyes at them every time I see it announced. I mean, come on. If you want to fight other players for bragging rights, go to a PvP server. Give quests that have multiple riddles and let everyone have a fair share at solving it, not just the uber-decked out folks. The rewards are a little lame as well. Plat?!?! Sheesh. No originality. Back when Verant ran things, it was artifacts that where deemed worthy by even today's standards. There was a little more thought given to every aspect of the events. Now it's just the general bash at the areana for the pot of gold. Seems like they only run it for the monthly quota. Do any of the Sony quality control/public relations people ever read these replies?

ok , so i have only been playing a year now , and basically it's " what's a GM event " . So yes they should run 'em , even if it was just one every 3 months with decent planning and prizes not something just slapped together as some of other posts have lead me to believe they have been, could even level restrict them so that every one can have a go at it not just the super-uber geared toons. just my 2c worth.

Although I think they should do more, I must be lucky or maybe I just play too much. I have seen:

Riddle GM in PoK (2x)
Talent show in ShadowHaven
Crazed Polar bears in LOIO
The thief (thieves) in Kelethin. (2x)
A vampire fairie who could not be affected by anyone over..I think it was 50. (In GFay)
Bad *** Aviak Avengers in South Karana who could be reasoned with.
Gnome pirates with short fuses in the Overthere.
Story teller in Kelethin.
Dark elf talking smack in GFay during the recent war. (Hunted down and killed by my ranger. First and only time I have killed a GM)
Wounded dwarf in Butcherblock.
Cooking contest for Mayor of Rivervale.

Most of them were really fun, and killing that GM is one of the high points of EQ for me.

Personally i'd like to see more things like the recent war and other creative events.

Ok, on Saryrn, a friend of mine got a very nice GM reward, but the event was at 4am in the morning, and only 3 people showed up.

Counting Straight GM events (not the retarded low level 1 ones). I have seen unrest taken over by evils event, arena battles (at least 4-5), TD raptor attack event (good one made over 1 mill pp in loot mana robe, elder beads, charged magnitic legs, wt rd bags, and alot more), 3 special lodi turtles (mini event made around 150kpp), i won a big multi zone quest starting in pok and won the title "the honorary Librarian" & Aegis of the Valiant artifact (our FV thing was hacked), also one that only 3 people on our server found out about a GM skeleton in FV that asked us to do some kinda quest kill brownie in RV (although he called it the monster that killed him) then came back gave him item and he attacked us we killed him got crapy loot and he turned into a halfer who thx us for setting his soul free... sure there are others i can't think about.

As for major events FV, holloween old ones, fabled x2, the war thing that was bugged to crap.

Been playing around 5 years.

Gah! I agree!

I've been playing EQ for four years on and off, and I have also yet to see an un-scripted GM event. Ever.

I have heard about 2 events taking place. One while I was in-game *gasp* which I seemed to have missed, and most of the others are by those reminiscing.

Really, would it kill them to do something once a month? I mean geez. I'd take more scripted events at this point.
#24 Sep 03 2005 at 12:05 PM Rating: Decent
The only event I ever participated in was a fishing contest in North Karana for levels 1-20...1st prize was a Rebreather or something...It was fun...I wish they would have more fun stuff like that.
#25 Sep 03 2005 at 12:07 PM Rating: Decent
I have been seeing more events, but I am always in a raid when they happen...any chance of seeing them any other time than in the evenings (EST,CST,MST,PST)?
#26 Sep 03 2005 at 1:43 PM Rating: Decent
I didn't think GNs did events anymore - aren't events now handled by Guides?

On Stromm I have seen three in the last ten days, and since I am in the UK, playing on a US-based server in GMT, I would assume there were more than this happening at peak hours.

Over my nearly 6 years in EQ I have seen probably 25 or 30 GM/Guide events and have heard about many more from guildies playing in US peak hours. I think there are plenty of them.

Whether they are fun is another matter.
