Karnor's Castle, home to the evil Iksar vampire Venril Sathir and his countless minions, sits modestly in the middle of the Dreadlands. Its heavy mob population and single exit can make for some pretty impressive trains, so keep a lookout while resting near the zone-out.

phew... train city
# Apr 14 2003 at 12:25 PM Rating: Decent
I've been doing a little grouping here on the Solusek Ro server as a low 40's cleric.

(First let me just say: has anybody else noticed how similar this zone looks to DooM? :)

I'm happy to report that I have not yet seen any anti-40's behavior; I think the feeling among people here is that if you know what you're getting into, come on in. If you aren't savvy about grouping in tight conditions with many possible adds that hit very hard, you probably won't live long enough to cause anybody else a problem anyway.

I'm unhappy to report that everybody who talks about Karnor's like it's Grand Central Station is right, and then some. I thought I'd seen real trains when I spent some time in Unrest, but noooo... Karnor's Castle makes Unrest look like a playpen! If anybody gets into trouble and races for the exit -- which we all do -- it turns into a free-for-all for the mobs. Drolvargs, disembodied hands, skeletons, ghosts, you name it. And there is no safe place anywhere within running distance of the exit, either. If you're in the south half of the castle, you'd better be watching out for that /shout TRAIN!!!, because it applies to you, whether you're standing at the zone line or not. And that's IF the person who trained lived long enough to get the shout off. Many don't.

Reeeal easy to get killed in here.

Arena Key
# Mar 27 2003 at 11:58 PM Rating: Decent
Whereas the arena is the place where Venril Sathir's Remains pop, and often where Venril Sathir himself is pulled to...

There's only 2 ways out. You can port, or you can take the little lock wooden door... Anyone know how to get the key?
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 09 2003 at 12:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Oh yeah and one other little note, for the people that keep crying about higher level characters not wanting lower levels in their group. People welcome to EVERQUEST. It is part of the game. The same game you keep coming back to over and over, so if ya dont like it ....MOVE ON. I remember back in "the old days" when DL was strictly for level 40+ players. Yesterday I saw lvl 30 players grouping there. More power to them if they can get away with that. But 2 things, they arent grouping with me and if they die then they die. They can read the info just like I did when I started out. They know what level zone it is and if they dont, is that my problem? LOL
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 09 2003 at 12:26 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) To the people writing posts earlier about Monks FD'ing near them. Okay here is a good tip. MOVE. God some people in this game need to have a stick slapped up side their head. Monks FD because they are about to die. It is a skill. Dont go bashing Monks just because your jealous or because you were the Noob and decided to sit at the zoneline and heal up. And to the people saying heal em and gate, your just as stupid as people that train zones on purpose. People that sit at the zoneline and then ***** about getting trained need to wake up and smell the coffee beans.

I was spending some time in KC trying to see if a Supple Scale Armband would drop and I never got one. Was in there about an hour before I got so bored I left. I didn't think it was a rare drop, but does anyone know about it? been in there a few times when other groups had the room and they said they would elt me loot the SSA if it dropped, but everytime - nothing.

Armband seems to drop off Drolvarg Warlord every time. I think your helpers weren't killing the right mob. Only the Drolvarg Warlord drops this as far as I know.

My group was myself as 51 Bard, 51 SK, 53 War, 46 Bard, 52 Pal. We supposedly also had a cleric, but he left to get kei, and never came back. We soloed LCY, moved into WELL, and then tryed DT before we got bored. The Pally never had to LOH or back off to heal once.

I just got the Epitaph of Life undead dot spell, and I have tried using it on some of the skelly's in KC. It takes about 6 casts to do the job. With a KEI you can earn decent EXP as a solo cleric =^p

In the right courtyard is a door and behind that door a small room with another door on the left side (and the stairways going up to the mob in the library and another door straight on to a room with mobs). This door is locked and trying to open it, I get the message that I dont have the key. Does anybody know where I can find this key?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Where the camps go?
# Aug 29 2002 at 3:47 PM Rating: Decent
What has happened to this zone lately. Im on Prexus and hunt KC often. Lately though it seems there is no reason to call what camp you have because nobody cares. I usually take hands if its open. I dont camp in the hands room, i pull to a safe area close to there. Every time this week my camp has been overrun by another group :(. I call the camp and its clear, and yet this group decieded they are more important and move into the hands room. Im not the type to argue and complain, so i just take upper basement and start pulling from there. Another problem is the camps stealing others spawns. Your camp is killin away pulling good and runs out of spawns, what do you do? You rest up and wait for your spawns to re-pop, you dont run to the nearest camp and start pulling from them :\. I can guarantee if a puller comes running to your camp while your in melee, you will not be happy to see a named go running by your group into someone elses camp. This is not a video game, this is a community game that is shared by all that play. Please be considerate of other people and groups, the more people you upset during your lower lvls just limit the play time you will have at the higher gaming lvls. Just wanted to rant for a sec. All be safe.

Sorry in advance, but I need to vent something.
I am so sick and tired of higher lvl characters thinking they are so big and bad in this zone that they wont give anyone lower than 49 a chance (so called noobs to them). Some people fail to understand that even when you're lvl 60 and new to a place, you are the noob now. If you are not willing to give "noobs" a chance, how the hell will they ever learn.

Example: Though I'm not a noob to this zone, I ran my lvl 45 Mage into KC to group up. Sad to say everyone in the zone was shouting, who let a lvl 45 in the zone. Go back to DL they said. Even more sad was one guy shouting for group, joined up with 3 of us, saw our lvls, said you guys too friggin low and disbanded. Pissed off I set out to prove a point. I pulled a few friends together and ruled the LCY for several hours before 1 LD and a beserker room train on purpose, killed 2 of us. We didn't even have a warrior or a cleric in the group. Guess the higher lvls were tired of us noobs showing them the error of their ways.
Group was (45 Mage (me), 47 druid, 47 Pally, 51 Necro and 52 pally), and we ruled.
So much for can't fight there until post 49......hehe..
Just because you are a higher lvl doesn't mean you're a better player, or a demi-god. Lol

Of course itsd a matter of how well you play.. I grouped the other day with a level 57 war.. one of those elite, non-noob characters that you claim are better? He refused to use a pull message to help the chanter pick a mez target, he refused to let the cleric or chanter pacify before he brought a whole room full, he never taunted before breaking mez and even yelled at the monk for just standing there and making HIM break mez (he said it wasnt FAIR for him to take aggro all the time)... its SO easy to get to 60 these days, that alot of "noobs" have more playing time in, and know far better how to play and what their limitations are, than the "elite" 60+ crowd.. anyone can get PLvd or buy an account.. so to say its not a matter of how well you play is just simply insane

Mage pets do not get any aggro whatsoever, but they are on hate list. Hence, any PC who has any aggro will immediately be targeted by mob over pet if in range. So... the only way your pet out-taunted the pally would be if the pally was outta range and the mob was rooted OR if the pally was dead.

Magician 101 - dont expect pet to hold aggro over ANYTHING but another pet.

please learn your class before putting these inane posts on the webpage.

Having said that... i hav heard that pets used to get aggro, dont know from who or when, if this is the case and you posted before they nerfed pet aggro i apologise from the bottom of my fire-filled heart.

I have not hunted here yet myself but know full well a solid grp of lower lvls can hunt just as well high levels. If one knows what they are doing they can easily gain exp and good loot. I am just now getting into the high end of the game and I find most people above 50 to be ignorant <insert your own word here>. This is a grp based game and I think there are a lot of people out there that need to learn that. Just my rant.

My lvl 49 Cleric has hunted here for a few levels. It has been great loot and OK experience. The biggest problem I have found in this zone are trains.

I'm not talking about normal trains. The ones that people announce and take to a zone. Through my experience here, groups don't even announce trains half the time. They know that there are on average, about 8 or 9 people at the zone but they think hey "I'll just save my own ***." or "someone else can shout train." And it doesn't help that the DL side of the zone also has many trains coming to it...

But here's what is even worse. I have a feeling that this is the most popular zone for Ebayed characters. Especially Monks. Its easy to get unwanted aggro here. For most classes you gotta zone. But not Monks. Monks feign death. They seem to FD the most when they see another person going by. Not caring that they could be on their way from the zone to help their group who may be in trouble. Up to the courtyards, this place is crowded. When a monk FD, 90% of the time, whatever number of mobs they have on them aggro someone near them. I am sure most of the monks I have seen in this zone do this intentionally. Now this person or group who gets forced to take the aggro, either zones or dies. Now the fights start.

For the next few hours, you can expect an arguement between the group and the monk. It becomes so immature that I have often left groups and logged. Groups actually intentionally trian each other. They don't care that there is going be hours of downtime because trains are repeatedly being brought to the only entrance in this zone. They don't care that because of their foolish bickering, no one can get experience and they will most likely lose their camp. Its very sad. I would think that by lvl 45 most characters should have grown up. But it seems half of the people that come here are Ebayed or first-character power leveled. The rest of us pay for it.

I hope this isn't the case for every server. I'm on Terris Thule personally and I doubt I will ever come back to this zone. If you are on Terris Thule, this is a warning.

Monks seem to think it's just hilarious to FD at your feet while yer medding or have AFK by your name. It's great to cast Shadow Compact or something on them to heal them just a little and then FD yourself, gate, or zone. They'll be slaughtered and learn their lesson. Sometimes you get the guy who spews excuses for for doing it and yelling why you did that. Just say you were trying to help by healing them and /ignore.

I'd say 47 or 48 would be ok for a wizard, 49 is good for Ice Comet though. I'm grouping there at 53 with my wizard at the moment, be prepared for a long wait though. Wizards aren't high on the list of wanted classes there it seems.

Jarsath for Newbies?
# Mar 10 2002 at 5:29 PM Rating: Default
I am a 16th level Shaman, untwinked, and it's my highest level char. My question is; Is it twinking when you yourself run to Karnor's and loot Jarsath after asking the groups hunting there? I didn't think it would be since, I am not exploiting any flaws in the game mechanics like people who log in as their uber char, and have someone else hold a bunch of equipment to give to their new char. Jarsath seems to be meant for this kind of use since no one that actually hunts in Karnor's would want Jarcrap, and that it is no drop so it cannot be sold. Could I get your opinions? I don't want to go to Karnor's and annoy everybody. But it would be really nice to have some better equipment since I am getting left behind because all the other low level char are twinked. Thanks
RE: Jarsath for Newbies?

Hmm. Looting NODROP stuff from mobs you didn't kill isn't really twinking- it's something different, called vulching (from vulture). This usually happens when the NODROP stuff is worthless (or nearly) to the people who are doing the killing, and they would just destroy it or let it rot. Vulching is usually tolerated and somewhat encouraged- I hear it all the time in KC, "Jarcrap *item* in *location*, come loot it before it rots". But there are a few guidelines for someone wanting to do this- I'll try to customize the list for KC, and let anyone else add anything I might have missed.

1. The KOS thing. If you have good VS (Venril Sathir) faction, about half of the mobs in KC will not agro you on sight, including most of the ones near the entrance. This makes it much easier to get in to wherever the item is without getting jumped, although you're still taking your life into your hands. If, however, you don't have good VS faction, you're asking for trouble for you and the zone, unless you get an experienced person to escort you in and out, preferably with an invis. Bind nearby and be prepared to die. If you get jumped without an escort, do the honorable thing and die- don't create a train in a zone you're not even supposed to be in. KC is deadly enough as it is- people go AFK at the entrance sometimes, and they will die if you train. That's not right, especially if you didn't fight to earn the item. For a 16 shaman, this is not really an issue anyway, as these mobs will annihilate you in about two seconds. Remember that ALL undead in this zone are KOS to everyone, and some of the dogs are too. And be sure to let them know that you're coming for the item, so you don't have people fighting over it, and so they don't destroy it.

2. Don't spam. In KC at least, people usually OOC what dropped where, so you probably won't need to ask. If you do OOC to loot Jarsath, don't do it more than once every half hour or so, and be very polite about it- these people have nothing to gain from letting someone else loot in their room, and they risk having a newbie create a train that will kill them all, just so you can loot something. That's pretty nice of them, so loot it, and then IMMEDIATELY get back to the zone, unless you see a KOS mob in your path. Once you're back at the entrance, thank them so the whole zone can hear, and maybe ask one of them in a /tell if there's anything you can do for them in return- maybe they need supplies from the store or whatever. They probably won't, but it's nice to ask anyway. Let me impress on you once more- after you loot the item, don't talk, don't bow, don't even scratch your nose- get back to the zone, unless there's a KOS mob in your path, and you would create a train. You can talk when you're safely at the entrance.

3. RTFM. Study the map of KC at http://www.eqatlas.com/kunark/karnors1map.html before you think of doing this. I wouldn't suggest a newbie go any deeper than the courtyards, unless maybe you have a very good escort- who knows KC- and some form of invisibility. Remember that mobs swim in the moat, and that there may be pops at places you didn't think of, simply because they weren't there when you entered.

4. Be ready to sit around. Jarcrap doesn't usually drop more than a time or two an hour, and there may be someone ahead of you. It PROBABLY won't take you terribly long to get an item, if you're not picky about which item you get, but it might. Just so you'll know. Sit at the southern zone- most trains go out the northern zone. Better yet, find out for sure which way trains go on your server.

Jarsath isn't really bad armor, it just doesn't rule. But to give you an example- our cleric got a Jarsath helm last night. It's something like 10ac 2int 2wis 5svm. She was using a runed circlet, 4ac 4int 4wis. Clearly, extra wisdom is more important for a cleric, but when she gets to 200 wisdom, the Jarsath helm will be MUCH better, with 6 higher AC and a nice boost to svm. And there will be a few people who are fighting in there for whom Jarsath will actually be a big step up from their old gear.

For folks looking to hunt there- remember, KC is a very dangerous dungeon, with bad pathing; lethal trains; casters who can gate, nuke, debuff, and complete heal; etc. If you get a group there, do what your leader says, or find another group- you can't afford to have dissention in the ranks. If you get a doofus in your group, politely have them leave (like our paladin the other day who kept demanding IN ALL CAPS that the leader go where he wanted to hunt, and who drank eight Honey Meads because he said getting plastered helped mana regen...*eyeroll*). If done properly, KC can be fairly safe and very rewarding, but it takes a lot more discipline and teamwork than an outside zone like DL. Most people in there are around level 50, but I started at level 38, so it can be done, if you're careful and respectful of your fellow players. Find out how your group is doing loot at the beginning, before some nice item drops. Above all, have fun- it's just a game. ^_^ \/

Um, camp? Venril Sathir (normal) is roughly a three day spawn. He probably *could* be done by a 58+ group by themselves, if they have a chanter or two to chain-rune the tank. Otherwise, I think probably 3 groups of 53+ or even more groups of lower levels.

My ranger dinged 48 last night, so getting time to move on from dreadlands, and given the amazing loot that drops for rangers in Karnor's, it seems a logical place. My question is, if I'm in a pickup group, and a high value melee item drops, will only the melees roll on it? If a swarmcaller drops and I'm only ranger in group, can I expect it to be defaulted?

I'll ask my guild and people, but servers down right now, and no doubt someone reading in the future will want to know too.

Also: does the monk or ranger pull in KC?

Have seen it go both ways. Just ask when you join the group what the loot rules are. If you don't like them you can always leave and find a grou you like better. Most of the groups I was in there limited it to people that could/would use an item rolling on it. If nobody in the group was going to use it then it went open roll. ie I believe its a druid bracer that sometimes drops in the hands room. We had no druid so all who hadn't already gotten something really nice got to roll.

In a pickup group, unless an item is no drop, everyone who wants to roll, should get to roll, unless it is agreed upon in advance.
Karnor's Castle 001 an introduction

I have written an introduction somewhat detailing what you can expect when you visit Karnor's Castle. Although I rely on this thread to be read to provide the information as to the appropriate levels you need to be and the loot/MOB available in the camp, I hope it will reassure or inform players that are unfamiliar to the zone. There is the certainty though that you will either love KC or hate KC. It could be described as a level 50 BLackburrow. However the text became quite long so to ease this thread I placed it in my journal. I would place a link to it but I am not familiar with that process, perhaps another would be willing to do that.

Good Hunting.

I am finding it quite difficult to get good Xp[level 41 wizard] if there are any high level wizards out there with some strategy help I would greatly appreciate your advice. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Is it my imagination or has it become harder for a wizard to get into groups at the higher levels?
