Also known as the five towers of Teraaz, not much is known about the history of Kaesora.

Located beneath the Field of Bone, Kaesora was built during the rule of Rile Sathir and used as a citadel by Vampire Lord Chosooth. At some point in time, the inhabitants encountered a force strong enough to destroy them. Kaesora now lies mostly in ruins, haunted by those who fell in its confines.

Getting in/Getting out

I've read the strategy discussion, I've studied a couple different maps, and the best I've been able to tell from all the information is that you're screwed if you're a melee type.

Am I correct? Is there no way out of this dungeon if you can't gate? It reads like there are a series of drops to get to anything meaningful, but there aren't any stairs or ramps to get back up to the surface level.

I hope I'm wrong, because I'd love to hunt this dungeon. It seems like a great place to hunt when I hit 35. It also seems like Verant would provide some sort of way for non-gating classes to escape this dungeon, even if its dangerous.

Thanks!

you can get out. if you go south to the bottom floor, past the frenzy room, you can curl west then north back up to a drop off right near the entrance. if you just zoned in, there is a drop to the left to the middle floor, drop stright ahead to the frenzy room (good luck) and to the right there is a raised dropoff. this is where melee types drop from when they want to leave.

My experiences in Kaesora
# Mar 22 2001 at 4:09 PM Rating: Excellent
Kaesora can be a nasty place if you don’t know it or if you are not careful. It can also be very rewarding in terms of items, xp, and overall fun.

I've had three experiences in Kaesora that I will tell you about. I hope those who read this will benefit from our failures and successes.

First time in:
Party members – 35 Enchantress (me), 36 and 39 Paladin, 36 Mage-no pet, and 34 Druid
Destination – Library

As we entered, we killed the single undead that spawns in the entry area.

We buffed up in the entry and then made the two small drops to the left that lead to room 3 on the EQAtlas map. We peeked around the corner into room 3 to assess the situation. There were 3 Spiders and a Ravener. The Pallys attacked one spider while I Entranced (72 sec Mez) the remaining MOBs. I AE stunned when needed on the casting spiders (Necros and Healers). We take them out with some effort, but not too much. Don’t let them run or you could get into trouble. They can also stun you pretty good so don’t let them mob you.

Behind the door to the next small room are two more spawns. Usually a Ravener and a Spider. We took them out easily by mezzing one of them.

A false wall to the left leads to the next area. Between this wall and the next small room is a safe area to rest. Invis vs. Undead is useful here for scouting and pulling as most MOBs are Undead after this point. The next small room has 3 Undead, which we took out in the same manner as before. Careful of the Guardians of Xalgoz or other creatures here that are somewhat transparent and hard to see.

The corridor past this room and up to the next room is a safe area. The next small room has another 3 Undead. Again we dispatched them with no problem. We had a healer (Warder) wander up and try to heal, but he was mezzed before he could even think about it. He was summarily beaten down for his actions after we took care of his buddies.

The entrance to the Library area might have a few more Undead, nothing difficult. After clearing this area, we moved up the stairs to the Library courtyard/fountain area to set up camp. Things were going good until we had a medium sized pull of 4 to 5 turn into 7 to 9. I was able to control them mostly, but one of the transparent Guardians latched onto our Druid (which I failed to notice as I couldn’t see it) and the next thing we knew, he was dead. I contribute his death to our lack of familiarity with the area/MOBs and his not being part of our normal group. We finished the rest of them with moderate effort. AE mez at this point comes in useful, but I don’t like to use it unless there are more than 5 or 6 to mez because all mezzes break at the same time.

I decided to go back up and get him since I have Invis and Invis vs. Undead, which we thought we could use to sneak past everything back to the Library. Wrong! The Straithbone Healer spiders can see through normal Invis and Camo so the only way to get past them is to kill them. If no Healers have spawned, then you will have no problem getting down to the Library. Just invis past the first two rooms and switch to Invis vs. Undead after you clear the room with the false wall.

Our situation turned bad at this point. One of the Pallys was scouting, while we were figuring out how to get back down, when his Invis vs. Undead wore off and he pulled a small train that wiped himself and the other Pally out. The Mage was ordered to Gate after both Pallys used their Lay on Hands and were about to die.

We ended up having our Mage summon some weapons for the Pallys who had died and had to travel back from their bind points in Firiona Vie. We then attempted to take out the spider room again so that someone could go down and get the bodies. Basically everyone ended up dying at least once and some several times, but we finally ended up getting all the bodies out to the drop point. Casters could loot and then Gate out, but for non-Gaters it was a bit tricky. The best way is to have someone port you out. If you don’t have a porter, you can have a caster jump down and drag your corpse to the edge of the lower drop and then Gate. Have the caster jump back down on the first ledge (there are two) of the drop and summon the corpse up to this ledge and then let the owner summon it to the entry area from there.

One of our Pallys was able to use this method, but it didn’t work for the other. Our Druid (and only porter) had already left so the other Pally was still stuck at the drop point (camp immediately if you are ever in this situation – get a porter to come when you can) when more stuff spawned and he ended up dying. Needless to say, he logged after that. The next day he came back with a Necro and who summoned both of his corpses back to him. If you know a Necro who can summon corpses, they would be a good thing to have along. =)

Second time in:
Group members: 36 Enchantress (me), 37 Mage, 38 Paladin, 37 Cleric, 36 Rogue, and a 35 Druid

Our group is a little more balanced this time around. We go down again, but another group of low to high 40’s is just getting ready to go in front of us to take the Library. Hmmm. We follow in their wake, letting them clear the MOBs on the way. Once at the Library area, we decide to try the Hut room (number 4 on Atlas map).

One member, our Rogue, remembered a time here with another character where a pull of what looked like 2 to 3 turned into 8 or 10 so we were very wary at first about what to do. We decided to go for it since we really had no other options. The Rogue was right, it was a pull of around 10. I waited until all of the MOBs were on the Pally and Rogue to cast my AoE mez, which caught all if not most of them. If any were missed, I Entranced them. Every twenty seconds I would recast AoE mez again (lasts only 24 secs) and Entrance any who resisted and aggro’d me. Eventually, we whittled them down to only a few and finished them off. No one was close to dying, but I was OOM and having to sit and med between mezzes. Whew, the hard part was over and we were able to move into the cave behind the hut room (fairly safe area) to set up camp. From here we pulled as they popped, which meant one to two at a time with occasional pulls of 4 to 5. It was very easy considering what we had already gone through.

After an hour or so of holding this area and getting a few good drops, I decided to see how far I could wedge myself into the back of the cave in order to safely AE mez without mezzing myself in the process. Ugh! I moved forward into the furthest cranny I could and BAM, I got stuck facing the wall. I couldn’t do anything to get myself out including ducking, jumping, sitting, etc. I ended up camping to see if that would help. Hmmm. As I logged back on, I was at the zone line. My party tried to recreate this in order to easily zone out without porting, but they couldn’t recreate what I’d done. Interesting bug.

No one died this night and we got a few good items, good xp, and had a great time.
Drops included: Deathwatch Sword and Icy Blade

Third time in:
Group members: 38 Enchantress (me), 37 Paladin, 34 Druid, 34 Wizard, and a 34 Monk

Same process as before to get down to Library. Camped at Library.

Everything was going good for awhile. Killed Tortured Librarian who dropped a Spirit Tome. Things went bad when our Pally made a mistake by pulling a mob around the right side of the library instead of through the library. The entire hut area (10 or so more mobs) was pulled as a result of this. We held them for awhile, but the last 2 or 3 were too much. I ran out of mana and was killed. Pally ordered the Evac shortly thereafter, but the spell fizzled 3 times and then the Wiz was OOM. Doh! Everyone died. Always pull through the library!

After a few failed attempts to get our bodies out, we quit for the night. I came back the next day and was able to invis past the spiders, as no healers had spawned, and get my body. I later learned that the Pally had died 6 or more times doing suicide runs to drag his and the Druid’s body to the drop point.

Well, that’s it. Sorry it was so long. Hope you got something out of this.

Preparing ourselves for a guildraid hopefully 2 full groups varying from 35 to 60. Despite the power the higher lvls might provide i will still keep your experiences in mind. Cause as things are described in several posts it a place that can go easily rotten.

About your camp/evac, simular things have happened to me as well if you camp your position is recorded, if you somehow get in an impossible place (like you were) than the system can't relocate you properly and instead uses the safespot. (wich is quite often the entrance of the zone). 1st time it happened to me, i was in the wall of the bazaar and culd not move at all anymore. Camping and relogging put me back at the entry.

But anyway thanx for posting your memoires on this zone.

I want to hunt this zone with my regulat group, but thatgroup does not have a porter...How do we get out, without an evac? Eq Atlas says that there is a "pathway to exit" from the broken floor room, but Ive not found it. There is a REALLY long corridor that snakes around through a couple rooms back to the exit..Is that it?
RE: Ok so how do i get out?
# Mar 07 2001 at 12:44 PM Rating: Good
Gabus, you jump down into the broken floor room and go through the left hand passage. It snakes around a bit and seems to dead end. The drop down to the entrance area is on the right as you enter the last room.

A word of caution though..you should exit with your full group. If your casters gate out, the tanks will have a hard time making it past the mobs. Invis won't help much because at least one of the spiders has see invis.

ok we went here with a great group in low to mid 40's didnt have any trouble till xalgos room. We were doing fine until out of no where we get a five spawn , the room had been broken for awhile. This happened twice to us , on the second time it killed are necro and ruined the evening. is this common or was it a problem?. also the mobs below the church were aggroing threw the floor. Whats up with this , i petitioned a GM and he said the dungeon is working properly. It semed bugged to all of us in my group. Anyone got info on this?
RE: Bha this place is bugged i think
# Feb 06 2001 at 3:46 PM Rating: Good
Aggroing through the floor is a common problem in any "building-type" dungeon. I had the same problem in Unrest. A simple AE stun would bring EVERYTHING above and below me if I cast it from anything but the floor.

If I was against the wall - sitting on a table - standing on steps - standing on any debris

These mobs would kill me through the floor and ceiling. Couldn't target them, party couldn't target them, all I could do was die. Running was not an option. Getting hit through the floor results in 90% stun. I am very careful now to cast stuns only on the floor with nothing around me but the mob.

And yes, I did petition and report the bug - the developers responded from the EQ/Sony site and said there were no problems in Unrest.

Same thing out in the Field of Bone, and once in the Lake of Ill Omen that I've seen. My Iksar necko has died several times at the hands of the mob under the ground. Did find out though (after a couple deaths) that if once it hits you, you hit the escape key to clear targets, and then it hits you again, it will be targeted and a willing victim for Ward Undead or other nonline of sight spells. By having your group members target you and /assist, you can make real short work of the mob under the ground. Spells only though. Melee won't work, and any loot is not recoverable. (Unless you can find a way down to it :p)

The Pack drops off Spectral Guardians which can be found in various places in the zone, not just the library. It is 8 slots and only holds roughly medium size items, pretty much any weapons smaller than 2-handed weapons, not sure about what size armor it will hold.

true true - it wil not fit a breastplate (ebbp, i tried mine) or a chainmail tunic. - anything even remotly 2hs wouldn't fit in this pack. however, it's still quite useful for the medium sized FS

one note - ALOT of fine steel 2hb's drop in this zone, so if you are gonna carry em out, have some weight reducer. it will make a huge difference

Runelord drops the fantastic Dagger of Frost: 12/30, +4 intel, casts shock of frost (38dd)some other stats too i think can't remember. BTW this place can be very nasty and the casters have really bad and LONG roots. Cleric may be in your best interest for the Resses alone, definately need a group gater or two, helps the tanks get out. There is another way out, but so much easier to port. Be careful in here... I have seen 2 lvl 50s get waxed by spider trains. This place is RARELY occupied, maybe too far away, but it is a great place for drops and exp 35-45. goodluck and be warned.

ok, so, forgive the pun in the title, cause this zone is full of drops, as well as some decent to nice loots.

for the library area, drops are:

deadwood stave (8/28 warrior shadowkinght, effect lifedraw {40 pt drain} )
kunzar mantle - chain mantle with +3 wis, druid wearable, as well as all chain types

ok, so we got two nice drops from the library - go up to the church and ya got a few more
tombcarver - rogue dagger, 5/17 3dex agi
blade of xalgoz
some vampire teeth... you know, the ones for the charasis key quest??

on strathbone healers
strathbone shell sheild... cleric only, and from what i've been told, nicer than a cgs. don't take my word for it, look it up in the items here on alla.

not sure what the runelord drops, sorry bout that =(

Hello All..

When I took my 61 Sham in for the Howlings Stones key quest, I had never been in there before. It seems like some pretty nice stuff drops and there is some nicer twink stuff too. BTW, I noticed more runes dropping here than I have seen in most places....

For non-gaters, take a good map and a gate potion from the Baz...

But not druid of course... heaven forbid the druids would get some obtainable items. Not to say that we don't get items, its just that every bloody druid from 30 until they get to the planes/sebelis have the same darn equipment =)

Its not that there isn't a lot of druid equipment, there is just so many more druids that stuff to go around. God, these days you can't throw a rock without hitting one of those little wood-elf bastiches.
VS faction
# Aug 24 2000 at 12:46 PM Rating: Good
You only take VS faction hits from the spiders and the named mobs in Kaesora. You can drop straight down to the area behind the library and essentially avoid VS faction hits. You will have to fight a few spiders on the way out unless you have a group gater or the whole group is made up of casters who can gate.

When Kunark first opened, one of the first dungeons we explored was Kaesora. As you first enter, you'll notice that dead ahead of you is a tunnel, which terminates in a long shaft downwards. With a high-30s, low-40s group, it's not an entirely bad idea to just drop down the shaft into the middle of a pack of npcs, and just start fighting. There's around five there, with one rare spawn - the strathbone runelord. Although none of the spiders see invis, some of the nibblers do - if you hug the left wall (I think), you -may- be able to get by them. At the back of the room is a little closet that can be safe, and has been used for resses before.

Man that is a surefire way to get whipped if you don't have a chanter... I don't recommend this to any group of that level range... be careful we were smoked because of all of the healers there once before... and if you do try it, make sure everyone assists on the healers. Take them down quick...
Bugs
# Aug 24 2000 at 1:12 PM Rating: Decent
A lot of the mobs are bugged and would still scowl at you even if you are invis but won't aggro. Highest mobs in this dungeon are around high 30s so someone around level 45-46 should be able to pull singles.
RE: Bugs
# Jun 10 2001 at 11:57 AM Rating: Decent
At level 35+ mobs from 1 to 12 levels below you will be blue, which means they will agro and help.
Some of the high greens (13 and maybe 14 levels below you) will also agro and help.
That means a level 46 will only be able to single pull mobs up to level 32 or so, and nowhere near high 30s.
