The Frontier Mountains are the highest and roughest set of mountians located on the continent. These harsh mountains cut across the western half of the continent, and are inhabited by a variety of powerful, large creatures, for whom the peaks are mere hills. Many of these creatures operate vast mining operations in the mountains for the minerals that lie beneath them.

Bind

Hey, just a reminder that you can bind in the FM zone at the ruins. I believe it's around -2100, 1200. Anyways, it's in the SW corner. On the following map it's the burned down building. http://www.gameznet.com/eq/maps/frontiermaps.jpg

Also, just a suggestion, make a hot key for /loc. it helps if you get lost.... which i did a lot.

PAY ATTENTION WHEN NAVIGATING, LOOKING FOR YOUR CORPSE, OR ARE ANYWHERE BUT GIANT FORT...there are soooo many wandering mobs and EVERYONE is at fort. No one helps if you're in the mid. of the woods and a gobbie necro fears you. You're just dead. Mobs are pretty easy to dodge but the gobbies are hard to see for those without infravision at night. BTW half elfs DO NOT have infravision (or at least usefull infr.)my 2cp

If you think that half elf infravision is worthless make a human/barbarian/erudite and run around at night, you will notice a huge difference, Infravision in and of itself usually isn't enough for navigation, but at least it makes the mobs easier to see and avoide.

This is a great zone

This zone is good for peeps to get groups from lvls 26-35. anything below 26 or above 35 gets quite difficult to get a group ( after 35 go to OT)
Giant Group

Hunting this zone seems like something that just about everyone has done around their late 20's/early 30's. The Giant Fort is just too easy a target not to. The best group I got into at the fort was a group of five (count 'em, 5!) monks and a cleric. We monks would pull in turns, spliting mobs with FD if we had to, to the left wall where the other monks would take the Giant apart. The cleric would heal the puller and those who got too beaten up in the fight, then med during the pull and subsequent fight. Spent three hours there and went from 28-29 and a half. Truly and incredible night.

A fun Druidic solo spot

Hey all,

Druid's of course can solo easily with their Kiting and root/dot methods. I wish to relate however my experiences here as a druid in the 29 to 32 range. As everyone knows, all blue mobs are not the same. With some experimentation I found out the different strenghths of some blue mobs. A good way to solo some exp as a druid at this level is to melee Grogring Brutes straight up. Get your best AC gear out, or buy some cheap AC gear at market and buff up to the max. Throw your damage shield on, pull with snare, add a dot and melee till its dead. You will find that the Brutes, while blue can not come close to putting out the damage that a Burnai, Whipcracker or Hillock can. With just your AC, buffs, 1 Snare, 1 Dot and Heal you can take down a Brute quite easily. I'm not saying this method is any better than any others, but life as a druid can be very monotone. And at this stage in your life, it's going to be one of the last in which you can actually tank and melee a mob to death, so you may want to stock up on the experience while you can :)

I've found that right to the left as you exit the Frontier Mountain/Dreadlands zone change is a great place to pull Brutes to. Very few adds, a decent supply of mobs with an easy pull route and of course the added benifit that a zone change is very close by in case of emergencies.

Later all,

That describes the cycle fairly well. Enjoy... and be sure no one else is doing the cycle also. Best method if possible is to do it with a fellow hunter... one of you sit in the SW- Giants area for that spawn... the second binds in the SE area (goblins-Blugtigin) near DL zone tunnel and runs to NW area (burynai). Once the mate has killed Giant, he sends word to person in NW to watch track for Burynai rare... pop is alomost instant. Kill it and gate to SE corner... mate runs from SW to SE while Burynai hunter is killing rare in NW... both of you will then be available to kill the Goblin rare (Blugtigin if lucky)
Bad place for 26?
# Aug 25 2001 at 7:28 PM Rating: Default
I had been told that this was an excellent place for XP and loot at level 26 so I decided to check it out. Unfortunately for me, it was impossible to get in a group since everyone in the zone told me I was too low, and that this area was only for full groups of 35+ chars. Am I missing something here?

No, this is a good place for a lvl 26 at the Giant Fort, but you might be better too wait another level at the Sarnak Fort in LOIO.

When you hit 27, print a map and get over there and try and get a group, good exp up until 32 i heard, got here to 30 with my druid anyway
Not good exp!
# Aug 10 2001 at 6:24 PM Rating: Default
I think this place is not a good place to group because i gained a yellow bubble n like 4 hours it is really not a good place to go. But the loots are deicent you can get thangs that sell for up to 1k very god loot.

Ok - I FINALLY get it. Frontier Mountains is a terrible place to get group experience (Giant Fort) at levels 30+. Phew. Glad to finally see the light.

Last night, I was in a full group pulling giants out of the fort (/yawn). There was very little danger in this, and halfway decent loot (once you sell the tunics/choppers/caps/etc.). But, after a little while, I realized that I was getting about 1 BLUE bubble per hour. Not good, not good at all.

Someone in-group suggested we go into The Overthere and pull to the Ledge. I soon learned that this is the area JUST beyond the zone canyon to FM. Let me just say, the XP... improved. As in, I got about 1.5 yellow bubbs in an hour. Lots of low reds to pull in that area, just be sure you have a good healer or two, as red MoBs tended to hit me for 70s and 80s. Targets included Succulents, Rhinos, Sarnak Knights/Berserkers, and the Cockatrices. I never had to look very far for something to pull. Loot was bad, XP was great.

Oh, just watch out for the 'Goons... You'll see.

Dont exp here
# Jul 07 2001 at 8:11 AM Rating: Default
What is it with lazy people? =)

FM has the badest exp in game if u try to go here at 28+.. Ive made 3 chars so believe me.. This zone only has expers because its in the middle of ill omen and overthere it seems. And the fact that it drops loops and other things.. People here even random for stuff that goes for 5 pp. As mentioned above places like Dalnir and deep in sarnak fort.. Ive compared myself with my own characters, and friends.. Even though alot of conditions comes down on how much exp you get.. But take the fact that the mobs allready yield little exp and that they are lower lvl than mobs f.eks Dalnir, besides that it has 15 to 20% exp bonus.. And good loot.. So why even wonder =)..So far my record is 1 to 30 in a week, and that isnt good at all actually)Yes and I do have a life *grin

I do not disagree on the bad exp at the Giant Fort (which is, exp or not, ultra-boring), but Frontier Mountains as a zone is not at all bad for exp, especially when you are soloing. I soloed in FM at all 4 zone points, and got very good exp (even soloed hell levels 35 and 40 there). The most exciting and fun thing in FM however is the cycle of the named ones IMHO.
The day at the Giant Fort i hope to soon forget!
# Jun 26 2001 at 11:20 AM Rating: Good
Oy, okay, at the time i was a 31 SK in an awesome group hunting at the Giant Fort. We were hunting at a very un-crowded time of the day and thus, we were the only people at the fort. After knocking out the initial giants guarding the entrance, we decided to move inside because we would have done far better in there. We had a cleric, SK, Pally, Druid, Necro, and a rogue all at 29-33. I was pulling along with the 33 pally. We must have fought for hours and we had a great time and even got 2 forest loops. We got some nice XP and wanted to stay until the zone crowded up with people later in the day. Then, all hell broke loose with a VERY bad chain of events. I went to go pull and i saw the lone Brae standing in the corner. I knew it was around level 38 but i knew we could take it (i have previously in another group). I got up all right and close to it and (keep in mind, NOTHING was spawned around it, it was practically the only giant left as we unleashed hell upon the fort ;) ) tried to cast engulfing darkness on it, which didn't work, so i just started heading back to camp (along side the wall just to the left of the entrance) pulling the Brae and all of a sudden i see A Mountain giant Tump hits YOU for 60. I realized one must have spawned and warned the group on my way back. Then, i saw in a panic as about 4 giants had just spawned and were chasing me. As if things couldn't have gotten worse, 2 spawned right by my group and aggroed on them as i was dashing back to them. Without thinking, we FLED to the zone (at least we tried...-_-;) but as luck had panned out, my sow wore off as well as half the groups. Okay, so here we are with ohh say 8 giants about to crash on us sitting on the wall getting pounded by 2 wandering ones that happened to aggro my group. So we just hoped and prayed and tried to run. The pally still had sow on and i used my sow potion right before my train hit me and me and the pally tried to get them all to zone but as we passed the gate to the Fort, 3 MORE giants aggroed that were standing by the entrnace. So lets see, hmm, thats about 10 or 11 giants and 1 Brae. My group was dead in seconds, the sheer amount of bashing and thwacking left the casters and rogue no chance to escape. The pally and i managed to get to LOIO carrying a 12 Giant train. We were too late with the zone warning and about 8 people sitting by the zone were killed. Unfortuanitley, there was a group hunting on the ledge to LOIO that was hammered and a few people AFK also. Fatalities in total was about 15-20. Considering there was about 22 people in the zone, i can sadly say that enormous train wiped out 95% of the zone. I have never seen a train that big do that much damage, just let me tell you, there was some awful flaming to me and the pally for that train even though we DID warn everyone, it was just about 2seconds before the train reached LOIO. May that day be forgotten!!!

Go to Dalnir two zones away. Much, Much better exp than here. 1 bub a night in FM, lol. Get a lvl a night in Dalnir.
Giantn Fort isn't that bad
# May 27 2001 at 3:34 AM Rating: Default
I have been slaying the ginats for some time now, from 24th-30th I have slain them.
The giants do not give alot of exp after say 28th level, and nothing seems to give alot of exp at 30th =(
But all in all this fort isn't half bad.
The good things about this Fort, are :

1: It is really hard to die fighting theese giants, if you pull too many there are always other players to help, and the zone is fairly easy to run to as long as you have sow.

2: The giants drop decent loot.Legchoppers sell for 35pp at vendors, tunics for 51pp, the other items for 10-15, the straw spun belt is all/all with an AC of 10,and dont forget the forest loop(+3dex,ag,wiz earring), wich is rare, but can be sold to players for 600-1kpp, depending on your server.

I think this is a cake walk of a camp, good for 25-28, good loot for how hard it is for 28-30-ish

Just my opinion.
Thanks
#Anonymous, Posted: May 23 2001 at 8:52 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I spent almost 4 hours in this zone earlier today.. I Play was playing a 30 Druid at the Giant Fortress... For the most part I was in a Full group-- Pal/Rog/Shm/Enc/Dru/and the last spot went thru a few classes..Rng/Wiz/and finally a Necro...We pulled ALOT of giants that were Yellow and some red...Almost all others were even cons, with no blues observed.

You should get it by now. From the 30's up, any mob that drops great loot that you can sell to vendors for plat, will give poor XP.

Any mob that gives great XP, drops nothing or close to nothing.
mid 20's got good xp here
# May 08 2001 at 12:12 PM Rating: Decent
Our group 23war,26dru,24cle,25shk,25rog,25ran. I was the puller(ranger). And we fought red cons fairly easy. We could take on 2(yel/even) sometimes. I really suggest bringing a full group and have a good tactic, being in mid 20's and all. Make sure everyone is sowed in case of bad pull, LOIO's zone is close to fort. Pull giant hills and tumps mobs, no craig. Also watch out for the fortress gate, the spawn is very quick so on your way out you might have an add. So far so good, today'll be my 3rd day and i'm 26 now. Our group got a forest loop and a few lumberjack's cap and other 2handed low weapons.

Best of luck
