My findings on the Patriachs in Dreadlands
# Oct 16 2001 at 11:39 PM Rating: Excellent
Hey all, just wanted to add my input on what little i've learned about Patraichs in the Dreadlands.

Ok, my group was a level 42 Warrior, 42 Bard, 41 Ranger and 42 Cleric. We decided we wanted a shot at some Treeweaves as well as some steady exp flow. I've read the posts here and some say the Treeweaves drop and some say the don't. So we thought we would give it a shot. First off, the trip to the fort (marked 7 on EQ Atlas map), was simple. We just killed anything that wandered across us. At these levels, our group of four took less than a bar of healt in the few fights that occured. Once at the fort, it was just as other posters have said. Extreamly easy to get single pulls, we cleared the entire fort and only had an add on the pull once. There seems to be about 7 spawns in the fort, am not completely sure as of yet, we've not taken it too many times, will report more detail when I have it, still have some relevant information to impart.

During the clearing of the Fort, we decided to pull to a small flat area just to the left of the entrance. During the 7 or 8 pulls from the fort, we had no mobs wander by on us at all. Most of the giants were Craig's and Brae's, all but 1 Brae was blue to us at 42. The fights were clean and very quick, no downtime at all from the first pull to the last. We then proceeded to make a very bad decision. We decided to move into the fort and take the spawns as they popped. We had no real challenges so we decided to become more daring and pull mobs from outside the fort so we could kill things while we waited for the repop. All went smoothly, then we had a repop while we were killing a pull. Not a big problem, they have a pretty low aggie radius. We were inside and pretty well to the back right and the repop at the camp fire did not aggie us.

Let me step back a second and expalin the layout. The entrance to this fort faces to the east, almost directly in line with Karnors Castle. The fort, such that it is, is very small and tight quarters. There are about six huts inside lining three of the four walls of this fort. The fourth wall being the one with the entrance on it, has no huts against it. As you look in through the archway, in the center of the fort is the camp fire with one spawn behind it. This was the first one we took and of course the first repop..so back to the info.

As we finished up our pull, we looted and ran straight to the campfire, intending to take the giant there and then keep killing the pops. We took this one out very quickly, our cleric had to use one superior heal by the end of this fight so we finished the fight at full hp and only a quarter blue of mana missing on the cleric. Then, very lucky for us, the Patriach popped in one of the huts and immediately aggied on us. No problem, we were full and our cleric was full. We had most of our buffs on, but elected not to use the Clerics Symbol buff. (Upon reflection, that was a very bad decision, when going into the unknown, always...ALWAYS...use overkill till you understand your limitation in the situation) Well it quickly became apparent that this guys was kicking our tails. He does indead have a decent amount of hit points. This was going to be an extended fight. I called the move, and we retreated to outside the fort before anything else repopped. He hit for 115's quite a bit and unfortunately we could not get him off our ranger and onto our heavily armored warrior. So he chewed through the hit points and as a result chewed through our clerics mana. Before I knew it, the Patriach was below half, the ranger was half dead and the cleric yelled Out Of Mana. At that point I fully understood our predicament, I hadn't seen the other warnings of the Clerics mana during the fight. With the Patraich Snared, I flipped on my Fear song. To my great suprise, It worked and was not resisted. The patriach was a gamble con to the 42's in our group. We continued the fight. Here is were we found a small trick to the area like some have mentioned in earlier posts here. In that small flat area to the left of the forts entrance, the pathing is horrible for the mob. He will turn and twist and go almost no where. I daresay you could fear him without snare and he still would not move very far at all, (though this is a hypothesis I won't be testing anytime soon thank you :).

With the Patriach half dead and the Cleric still OOM, the Ranger succumbed and was felled by the giant. Hoping to salvage a victory, we kept on with the fear and attacks. The fear was resisted about 25% of the time and was broken early about 30 or 40% of the time, so we still took some damage. The warrior took several 115's and was down to about two bars of life in short order. The giant was on his last quarter of life. The Cleric got a heal off on the warrior right as he was at 20% life, but there was only enough mana for a superior. It lets us beat the guy down more, but it wasnt enough and the warrior too was felled. This left the bard, cleric and a patriach at around 15% to 10% life. We tried the fear, still hoping to salvage, and a few went off, but the damage racked the bard very quickly and he was at a bar and a half life in a matter of moments. Hoping to salvage the clerics life for Res's and a quicker recovery, we kept the fear on and I tried to pull it away, knowing I was a goner. Miraculously, just as I pulled away, my last 10pts of damage or so made him a runner, so he stopped attacking me and tried to flee. When the cleric told me this I came back and kept meleeing him, hoping like heck he didnt repost me. Cleric got enough mana, healed me and we finished off the Patriach.

Sorry for the prolonged story, here is the meat of the information. The patriach dropped a Treeweave, so we found they do indeed drop there. After we res'd the melee's and healed/med'd to full, we found two more Patriach's on track, not in the fort. Both of them were gambles to lvl 42's. We pulled one to our spot by the fort. This time however, we were prepared. We had the cleric's symbol buffs and as soon as it was snared, I put on the fear to help spare the clerics mana. It worked much better this time. Cleric only used half his mana and we never got into any real danger during the fight. Fear saved us a heck of a beating, I'm pretty sure without it, the four of us could not have meele'd this guy. As it fell, we found another interesting fact out..it dropped a Treeweave as well. So we were very lucky, but it is apparent to me now that any Patriach in the zone can drop a Treeweave, not just the fort/monocle spawn.

That's about all I have for now, If any more information comes from our adventures I'll bring it here if its noteworthy :)

Thanks all and happy hunting,
Tinywulf of Veeshan.

Tanks in huge demand here, like clerics and enchanters in Lower Guk. Start at about level 37 or 38 after fighting in OT.
Levels 35 and 34?
# Sep 05 2001 at 10:44 AM Rating: Decent
Hello folks!

Thanks in advance for the help..I was just wondering how hard it would be for my level 35 Cleric and 34 Warrior friends to get a group here. Any information is gretaly appreciated, thanks! :-)

While I will not say that you CAN'T fight and group here, I will say that you will likely do better in OT until around 40. Of course, if Velious is an option, EW Ulthork camp is good, or even Crystal Caverns until 38 or so.

Man, Are you sure you're in the right discussion? Level 17??? Look, I know SK's are good, but I doubt an level 17 SK could solo in a zone with the lowest mob being at nearly twice that level (lvl 30) and most of the mobs being undercons anyway. Please go to OT, thats where you should be.

Chain Pull
# Aug 21 2001 at 2:07 PM Rating: Excellent
I have quite the reputation now in DL on Eci from the way I play. You guys can try this if you want it works real good for me. Its good exp...well so im told. I dont know, because im iksar shado nite. But my best friend in the game is a human monk and he went from level 41 to 47 in only 3 days...so I guess it works well. Last night I had two clerics a warrior a monk and 2 shado nites (1 was me hehe) and the warrior in my group got 2 yellows in less than two hours, hes level 46. I pull. Everyone had a spot on the ruins..so i got a lil crazy with my group. I decided that, we didnt need a MARKER such as the ruins..so I took my group right out in the middle of the field. (btw most of my group was mid-upper 40s..I myself am 44) I run and I siphon str to pull cuz its mass fast to cast. Then I would run that mob to my warrior to start things off. He taunts it off me along with the other shadow knight...and Im off to pull again. As I arrive with my new mob from the same pull strategy as before, the previous one is on its way out. So as soon as my warrior sees me coming he breaks off the now fleeing mob to taunt the new one off me...So I can pull. I prefer not to have my mobs ensared becuase if its ensnared it doesnt flee so the warrior will keep smushin it. (also if you have a rogue he always is the mob finisher...his specialty) When things really get cooking it went like this. There were always 3-4 mobs at my lil field camp...1 on its way out that the monk and the other shado nite were finishing off, there was one that the warrior was tanking, and then there are usually 1-2 on me waiting to be run through the same process as the previous two. We were makin so much money per hour that we paid for clarity and gift of magic and sows...So we couldnt be as efficent without those key factors. So thats what works for me. In my opinion Paladin or Shado nite make really good pullers cuz they dont use arrows to pull. I can cast siphon str all day and not have my mana bubs move. So its never any downtime. Pretty much thats all shado nites are good for anyway right? =). So if your lookin for ways to pull for your group try this method out and you will become WORLD FAMOUS on your server as the extreme puller. I cant come into dl without ppl stalking me now which feels good. HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU! it worked for me. And got me lots of new friends!

Hail to the experienced pullers of Norrath! I am a 37 Chanter. My requirements for grouping are a puller like the one listed here, a tank and a cleric. My groups have used the tactic mentioned here several times with great results, in many zones. With a chanter, 2 mobs can be standing by debuffed and patiently waiting to die while one is being finished off and another is coming in. This kind of group requires everyone to know their responsibility and to understand everyone else's role. This is a very advanced, yet easy group tactic. I regret more groups don't do this. If you are a puller like the one mentioned here, give me a shout and I'll travel the world to be in your group. I hope to be in DL within the week.

The best pull i ever saw in DL was a Chanter pulling. He was lvl 48 and we were at middle ruins.

He went pulling mobs, bringing them one by one and mezzing them close to us. So we always had a fresh stock of mobs waiting for their turn.
3 melees (war, rogue, bard) were killing mobs,
1 cleric healing melees,
1 chanter pulling and buffing (haste)
1 Druid (me) buffing sowing, DS, rooting / snaring for mob parking maintenance (some mezzez break) and taking care of chanter's health + some occasional nukes depending on mana.

The XP was awesome and fighting constant.

# Sep 28 2001 at 2:21 PM Rating: Decent
Ummm Ensnared mobs do indeed run. As do snared mobs... Rooted mobs do not. And some just plain don't..

An ensnared mob will stop attacking when it would normally run. It might swing a few times if you are attacking from the front and it ripostes. Other than that though it is trying to run but it's run speed is less thant he movement reducer of the snare or ensnare spell....
RE: Chain Pull
# Oct 08 2001 at 1:14 AM Rating: Decent
Snared, ensnared, any solw, mobs do NOT run once they get to where they would be running they just turn away and stand, same as a root, BUT if you root a mob as it is runing it will stay and fight, when you get a mobs health down and slow it its like encombering it to the point where it cant movie. That is all.

Hi All,
Just wanted to say OMG this freakin place is scary(lol). This is my 2nd day here and I am still scared sh-tless. A good group is a must or you are dead meat here. I am hunting along the North wall of the castle and have to say good pulling is a must.Lots of mobs to pull and fighting can go on all day without a break if u have a good set of healers. If you are below lvl 40 don't even think of comin here. I am 40 Ranger and it's scaring the crap outta me.The loot kinda sucks nothing but some pp and lame items like rusty swords and some words so far. Good luck if you come here because most stuff sees thru invis and are really close together. If you get caught comin outta the tunnels from FV your screwed cause more then likely it'll be a spider that can root and your toast(lol).

Dreadlands is a nice relaxing place to hunt. If you are on the north wall, you have very few adds, unless your puller brought them, or someone trained you. There is a zone nearby, and the mobs use predictable, standard tactics.

If you want scary, go INSIDE Karnor's Castle for a few days, or even better, try Nagafen's Lair. A couple Imp protectors add in the middle of a fight, and even a solid group can get chewed up, unless you have a chanter.

I've been hunting in groups along the north wall of Karnor's and you usually don't see anyone less than 40 in those groups. Drachs roam pretty freely as do brutes and drolvargs....they can whack you real good. At less than 40 you're still better of in OT soloing though I haven't tried the Yetis in DL yet.
You don't have to e 40...

Now, about being level 40 to come here... I'd like to say I'm a fearless cleric, but I'm more likely just stupid. Now, to explain, I came to Dreadlands for the first time at level 34. I was about halfway to 35. It cared the bajeezius out of me, too. Anyway, I was used to being accepted into groups in zones that were higher then my level; clerics are like that. So I mosied along... eventually I found a group. I almost died 3 times during the period of time upon entering DL and finding a group... regardless I ended up with a coupla tanks, including a psycho chain-pulling ranger, and a druid; I leveled 35 in about 90 minutes. And, as soon as I leveled, I decided it was back to GD for me.

Well, if its a 35 zone, then just group with all the other lvl 35s in the zone. The only reason you have done ok in a group at 35, is that the other group members were carrying you. 38 is ok for most, but 40+ melees sure help.

Hi everybody. I am going to break down osk for ya really quick. There are many very good camps on the walls of OSK but I have found time and time again in getting pick up groups there that the NE ruin camp is by far the easiest and most effecient along with being a consistent pull spot. When you look ahead toward FV zone from the last ruin on the ne corner of osk you are there. I would recommend you get a group( or make it a goal) with 1 cleric, 1 chanter, 1 miscellaneous healer, 2 melees and a spot open for whatever ya feel like getting. If this spot is you, please please, no offense is meant(LOL).If you can get a group with 2 clerics and a chanter going you will own osk, period . With this grouping I have found the least downtime of all and the most consistent pulling. Chances are one of your healers will at leats be around 30m if all goes well. I myself am a 42 paladin but when ya finally meet me Im sure Ill be much higher than I am now. If you are a cleric or a chanter you might have good luck here at 38 getting in a osk group but if not I suggest wait till 39. I know , I know, its freggin UBER exp at 38 but trust me this place will get you thru hell and seems to me to be pretty much smoothe sailing to 45. Might consider another zone when ya hit hell again but I have fought with many 35s and 36s here and havent heard many complaints.I personally went from 39 to 42 in less than 4 nights in this zone so I must admit I am impressed by its Wu Tang style. This is really a zone that I think is very good for separating the men from the boys(or women from the girls). I have seen uber twinks not do a damn thing in here and seen a relatively decently equipped warrior or druid own this place.I would recommend that you go ahead and plan on 4 to 6 hours of game play to get the exp you will be satisfied with because with a great puller and a consistent group you will easily, EASILY make half a lev in the lower 40s. If not something is wrong. I would suggest that you base your puller on the highest lev in group post 40 because everybody will get their exp since many blues fade green fast. But anyway, enjoy and stay safe.Oh oh btw, I find that Ravishing Drols will be the best pulls at osk, and be careful of the spiders, you guys with taunt and bash will begin to learn the importance of interrupting spells with these skills here.

# Jun 25 2001 at 11:28 PM Rating: Decent
For the good races who cannot bind themselves, there should be a safe place to bind here, because mountain giants are extremely numerous here and with camo on I got agroed by about 6 of them cuz they can see through it, but I had sow so I lost them. Also there should be a lunberjack trade cuz there are too many FREAKIN TREES.

Are the Tundra Yetis in the caves social? e.g. the apes in warsilks are not social, so I can kill them one by one right next to eachother and they won't gang up.

Anyone know?
If that are not social, perhaps they would be killable solo for a necro at 34+?

At lvl 12 I went to Qeynos. I was hoping to get back to Cabilis thru Dreadlands-FV-Lake route.
I made it ALL the way from the wizzie TP site to FV, at which point a patrolling guard got me.

The best way for an Iksar would be to get a port to Nro, bind in EFP, run down to the Oasis dock, hope there is a high lvl iksar headed home.

Check the Iksar travel guide on eqatlas.com and do the reverse.

wanna make money fast? first around level 14 or so go to oasis and fight on the orc highway, get around 30-50pp every couple hours (well i did, might get more if you have a black belt). then around level 17 or 18 go to highpass great exp and ringmail drops, so more around 50pp an hour there. then highkeep can get u lotsa money in the 20-30 area. there is probably a better way to make money, but thats what i did and it worked out great. oh yeah tping there is crap i ended up going to FV anyway lol
Gorenaire is one tough biotch!!!
# Apr 18 2001 at 12:39 AM Rating: Default
I saw someone on this message board say that Gorenaire was lvl 47 - 50.. i dunno if that's so or not.. but I do know that she has taken out 10 groups of lvl 55+'s... they were really organized too... 5 groups of tanks, 5 groups of casters... all dead in a matter of seconds... it was the second attempt they made, first attempt got it down to 10% hp left.. the second one got it to 50%.... they said they'll try again sometime... So if she does con even or blue, don't go anywhere near it... slashes for tripple 520's, AE fears, and AE DD for 800hp... she won't attack unless you have bad faction with it, or you attack it... i have good faction, but i'm too chicken to run by her to find out what happens lol

Also, i hunted here in DL since lvl 39.. pretty good exp on alot of things around here... most things con blue at lvl 40, some whites, yellows and even reds still lurkin around tho... be in a group i would say.. as kiting things will take all your mana and be potentially problematic.. i breezed thru 39 in no time here (grouped of course).

Also, if your a druid like i am, a good thing to hunt are the spectres in Oasis... at lvl 40 i quad v-kite them... takes all my mana, and i got 191 wisdom... but the exp is worth it... 4 specs for the price of 1 lol not that bad.. better than grouping in DL i would say... the only problem i've encountered, are people trying to help out while your kiting them.. they think your in trouble and running away with 4 specs chasing you lol they will try and help, and end up breaking there formation... it's hell tryin to get them back together again.. another thing to note, is that don't kite too far ahead, they will train to the nearest person, and alot of lowbies drop in seconds!! it's happened to me once.. *sighs* went too far ahead, they trained to a passerby lvl 16 pally.. wiped him out in no time near the orc hwy, and was headed for the groups there.. had to go in and get them before they took them out too... so unless you wanna pay for a bunch of rezzes and everyone hating you lol be careful while kiting them...
Note: there are 8 spectres on the isle, 3 at the top of the tower, one at the bottom inside.. and 1 at each corner of the island... i harmony two on the outside, step up to the tower, and cast harmony on myself... it gets the tower, cause i haven't found a way to harmony the tower... with out harmony, you will pull all the specs on the isle...

anyway, i hope that helps someone a bit..

Just got whacked by Gorenaire the dragon, and was told, when I re-illusioned myself, that this was the reason. You may well be non-KOS to outdoor dragons, but Illusions will make them kill you, skeleton, wolf, chanter illusions, all mean death.
So, spend that batwing for levitate instead of illusion air elemental, and save yourself alot of grief <cries>.
She hit me for 502, a new personal record.

And what makes it even worse is that the AoE the dargon casts kills everyone in a HUGE radius around you. If you are hunting the North Wall of karnors (a very popular pull spot with upto 6 groups there) DO NOT go into an Illusion (how cool it may be to have your group in wolfform) It will kill your group and almost all other Players around you quickly.

(Note to clerics of the 39th season and up: This zone can be very profitable with people in Illusion form, just stay clear from the Castle and wait for the /shouts asking for XP resses)
All about the undead

I've been hunting in dreadlands for a while now. In fact my cleric just hit 49 there.

Order of difficulty with the skeletons is as follows:

(easiest to hardest)

1) Plaguebone

2) Spurbone

3) Greater Spurbone

4) Greater Plaguebone (with 202 wis at level 47 i had barely enough mana to solo thses)

5) Rotting Skeleton (Spawns on hill NORTH WEST of the skeleton spot. Drops medallion piece for VP key quest. Killing the wraithbone champ sometimes triggers rotting to pop on hill). These guys have about 3500 to 4000 hp. The rotting spawn location is roughly 2260, -5520.

6) Wraithbone champ... Roughly 5,000 hp. Triple/quad hits in the 90+ range

Can pull singles, easy camp (but very camped lol)

With all my gear I have about 2030 mana, 1800hp and 780 ac. At level 48 I could solo all of the above except for the rotting and champ (dont even try the champ, you will burn 100% mana and he will be down 50% hp or so.. and the xp isnt worth it either).

The regular (not greater) plaguebones will be green at 47 & 48 but some still give xp.

If you are less than level 44 (cleric), you can hunt here but anything other than the regular plaguebone and spurbones will run you OOM until you get banish. Once you get banish, the greater plaguebones will still be almost impossible until you hit level 46 or 47.
