Once site of the city Veksar, this area is located in the center of Kunark and gets its name from the unfortunate demise of what once stood here.

Veksar sank into what is now the Lake of Ill Omen, and the area was overrun by the Sarnak Collective. Currently, the Iksars of Cabilis continue to do battle with the Sarnaks, fighting over the land.

A clan of Bloodgill Goblins occupies the lake outside of the fallen Veksar. To the northwest is a network of goblin caves which leads to Warsliks Woods. Roaming the entire area surrounding the lake are the wildlife native to Kunark and highly aggressive undead.

I came to lake at 16.I decided to get a group and hunt at windmills, then i was looking around and to my right by the zone wall i found there were no mobs and decieded to check it out, ive should groupmates as well as friends this place and what they like most about it is:It over looks half or a quarter of the zone which makes constent pulls. So if your low level teens looking for a place to med when you always end up with warlords killing you, stop by that zone wall,i promise you will like it.

I was wondering is it ok to solo as a bard, at lvl 17, and location to hunt, many of the creator are blue and yellow and red.

# Sep 13 2001 at 1:20 AM Rating: Default
It's very dangerous to solo here at such a low level but it can be done. I highly recomend staying close to the FV zone wall when soloing, pull your target way up on the hill there by the ruins away from other wandering mobs, you can take one blue but even 2 blues will wipe up the floor with you at your level.
Loot
# Aug 31 2001 at 4:19 AM Rating: Excellent
Oh almost forgot, for those who have just ventured here you had better have a nest egg in the bank because the loot is horrible at low lvls (excluding selling exc. sabretooth hides) :)
RE: Loot
# Sep 13 2001 at 1:22 AM Rating: Default
Really? That's almost laughable. I made over 200pp here in about 6 hours of playing. Sarnak's drop as much as 3pp sometimes and their weapons and gems they drop sell for massive loot. I've looted as much as 15pp worth of stuff off one kill here, a Sarnak in the fort dropped a sheerblade, a gem worth 8pp to a vendor and he dropped 4pp in coin.

The post said terrible at Low Levels... Not > 25. Sure the loot is great IF you can survive entry to the Sarnak Fort, Kill what you find there, AND get out alive. Outside that it does indeed suck. The Goblins drop diddly, the Sabers and Low Sarnaks drop a ton of No-Drop that is useless outside of quest. And the Iksar Bandits are the poorest bunch of thieves I've ever encountered, just a few coppers if lucky.
RE: Loot
# Oct 03 2001 at 9:02 AM Rating: Default
Sure this can be true, but the fort is very hard for a lvl 17 druid. The first time I went in there, I was a level 20 druid and many of the Sarnak just resited my spells. The mobs that can be killed by a lvl 17 character don't give much loot.

You can do well here but you may need some help from friends who have good aligned characters. You can sell to Nubs in the Windmill but if you want food, water, bandages and the like you'll need to run all the way back to the Overthere, a run even more dangerous than the Drachnid Gauntlet to FV. Most of the DE's I see in LOIO are either mid 20's plus, or they can gate back to the Overthere when they need supplies so the run is only one way.

You aren't too low per say...but go to Oasis, and do the croc thing...get to at least 18, then groups will look at you seriously for grouping.

Unless eqatlas is steering me wrong, and it never has yet, the windmill is in the SOUTHEAST corner of the zone. Good hunting.
Good Zone.

This truly is a wide range zone. MOBs from 1-28, and 39-54ish make LOIO a very good zone. Not many rare drops, some are bad, some can be very good.

The best strategy in the world is to do a tank/cleric duo, and pull in the valley with the Goblin Tower. Camp on the west wall, avoiding the mobs paths, and pull everything from Grimalkins, to recruits, to warlords. You can hunt from 20-30 here, the higher you go the more of the roaming MOBs you can pull.

The sarnak fort offers very good experience upt o level 25, afterwards the group sharing xp gets rather slow. Hunting in the corners of the main courtyard (2 downstairs, in the corners against the front of the fort, and 2 upstairs, on the "right ledge" and "left ledge".)

For the 14-22ish people, go to the WINDMILL, on the (I think) Southwest part of the zone, north of it (Again, not sure on direction) is the "Skeleton house" with Warbones to Charbones. 20-28ish. Very good place for the Undead fighters (Cleric, Necro, Paladin) etc to get good experience. Best place for a necro to gather bone chips too. Range pulls are best here because the undead do not assist each other.
RE: Good Zone.
# Sep 29 2001 at 10:28 AM Rating: Good
If the Undead do not assist then How did we end up with 3 Charbones at once just by hitting one?
oh well 2 dead 3 half dead and wizard with no mana we killed them all, what a battle that was too

RE: i lost
# Aug 25 2001 at 12:41 AM Rating: Default
from the east commonlands go into east freeport, take the boat to butcherblock - you'll be on the north dock, then walk to the south dock (you'll see it immediately), and wait for the shuttles.
Take a shuttle to the large ship, enter the large ship, take the ship through the ocean to Firiona Vie (you can be bound here).

From Firiona Vie, exit via the bridge and hug the river to your west (left) follow it all the way and you'll enter lake of ill omen - and oh yeah, get a SoW and an invis first - FV is a nasty place.

would i be KoS as a high elf wizard in any towns around here?
RE: am i KoS
# Sep 25 2001 at 3:57 AM Rating: Default
it actually depends, I have a human mage and a high elf wiz that can walk right into the towns, I have even walked into Calabis right upto a Crusader who was the only thing that attacked me, going there was a waste of time though I was only able to bank in east, much safer to just go to FV.

# Aug 20 2001 at 2:07 PM Rating: Good
Grouped with 4 rangers and a druid at the fortress, best pullers i've ever seen. Never were we in too much danger of dying and the xp was non-stop. Hybrids such as rangers, sk's and palidins r by far the best tanks because we got a variety of ways to knock em down and kick em out. Never will i say "no way" to a ranger or any hybrid for a grp or even just a partner.
Just wanted to have my say for my fellow hybrids.

Hey!

Just thought those interested would like to know that I have gotten my act together and figured out how to get to the Windmill safely, where to cash in my loot and what to pull. It looks like I'll be there for the duration. I hope to make it to this Saturday's Terris-Thule Windmill party.

Hiya, I'm a lvl 19 ranger thinking of heading to LOIO (getting tired of wandering around for no apparent reason except wasting my time ) I heard that it would be good xp and such...

Anyway I was wondering where the nearest place to get a bind would be. Another person posted that he was bound in OT (???). Any help would be appreciated.

# Aug 17 2001 at 9:42 AM Rating: Default
The nearest place is Firiona Vie (sp) which is the next zone over. It's where the boat drops you off in Kunark. Hope this helps.

He was bound in OT at the outpost. you must sneak into the walls to get a bind there. I usually invis and invis person who needs bound then sneak in to walls then bind. At anytime you die and are back at bindpoint swim around the wall it is a pretty safe thing but FV is closer
Coddington's Tale of Woe in LOIO
# Aug 16 2001 at 11:11 AM Rating: Default
Hey! I got tired of hunting in Oasis (fun, but running from trained Spectres and LJ tends to wear you out emotionally) so packed my bags and headed out to FV and LOIO. After taking the boat (affectionately called "the local"), I binded myself in FV and started making my way around and seeing the sights. I found the Magic Guilds (always a good thing), turned myself Invisible and headed to the Lake.
After meandering around for fifteen minutes looking for groups and trying to ignore the "which class is the best" debate, I summoned my pet and walked around some more. My first day at the Lake ended on kinda on a bad note. I somehow did a U-turn and zoned back into FV losing my pet in the process (dang!). The only group I found was camping the Sarnek (sp) fortress…all the way across the zone (the zone I've never been in). Almost everything I CON'd was either high Blues, or Yellows (Yikes!) on the way over. I never did manage to find the group; instead I hunted the first Blue I could find, killed it (but it ate my pet in the process, Dang!) and looted roughly a platinum and a half (Woot!). Suddenly I felt very vulnerable (Oom, no pet and no buffs in a strange land will do that) and tried medding near this group by the lake. The first attempt to cast Gate caused the Gate to collapse (not fizzle…collapse!) and before I could recast a Tainted Barracuda smacked me around like a red headed stepchild and I found myself back in FV (good thing I binded). The CR was uneventful but returning to the body and finding most of the other group dead was very freaky. They were apparently on the receiving end of the Barracuda, too.
Anyway, that's it. I'm still staying for a while and see how things pan out. I've done my research and LOIO is supposedly a good zone so eventually I'll get my act together and either learn to solo well or find the good groups.

Cya!

I've been seeing a lot of posts about Rangers having a hard time finding a group. I haven't had any problems. I've been fairly efective in group as well. I think people are neglecting the strength of rangers. You need to use your spells. Snare, Snare, and give people a +20 agi buff and they will usually be more than happy to have you in the group.

Sure, you can solo at lvl 20. I've been soloing from 20 to 22. By staying near the windmill, at lvl 20 you'll have mostly blues with an occasional white thrown in.

would it be possible for a woodelf Druid to put on Sup Camo, run thru the gates from LOIO, dive into the canal, swim to the gates of WW & mkae it thru alive? If you hugged the wall away from the hermit & kept your SOW & Camo up? Would the Pets ago on you? Nothing else could see thru the camo could it?

# Aug 15 2001 at 8:34 PM Rating: Decent
i doubt they can see through it.
with my bard playing his invis song i was able to enter cabilis and to swim through to field of bone with no problem whatsoever(i even twinked my iksar monk while i was in cabilis). Though i wouldn't suggest hanging out in the necro or shaman's guilds.
RE: seekin thru

You could probably make it through because pets NEVER aggro unless told to do so by master (who can't see you) or attacked.
