This massive ocean separating Faydwer from Antonica is home to many creatures.
There are sirens, goblins, spectres, seafury cyclopses, aviaks, and local pirates.
The two main islands provide a bit of comfort with some vendors, an inn and Tunare-aligned wood elves.

Two popular attractions of the Oceans of Tears would be Allizewsaur and the Ancient Cyclops.
Allizewsaur roams an island in the south while the Ancient Cyclops can be found east of Seafury island.

To get to the ocean of tears from Butcherblock Mountains, see Translocator Fithop on Northern pier west side of zone. She is located real near /loc +1,353, +3,256. Not in map find.

Boats down, Porters In

Boat is sailing around zone, but not to other zones. Instead they conscripted a couple gnomes and they teleport you in and out. They are on the Docks in BB and FP, as well as on the 1st Dock the boat lands at in OoT.
How do you use the boats
# Jun 03 2003 at 11:57 PM Rating: Decent
I took the Big boat to oot from freeport and was on sisters island. I made it where a little boat was by the shore. I jumped in the boat but how do you make it go? do you need to bye oars or do you type something? I'm frustrated and lost.
RE: How do you use the boats
# Jun 13 2003 at 11:39 PM Rating: Decent
Well, for the little boats, clicking on the boat, while in it, will give you the "You have the Helm" message. Then you become a fixture in the boat, and your movement is the boat. You shouldn't have gotten off at Sister Island if you wanted to get to Faydwer (Butcherblock), just stay on that boat, and it'll get there eventually.
Also, little tip to catch a boat in mid ocean, get in front of it, and let it run over you. Maybe some jumping and moving into it at the same time is helpful, but the end result is you on the boat.

Let me tell you about an idea i had one day. I was running through Grater faydark and i had accedently attacked a nexus at the wizzy spires. Needless to say that i was killed Instantly. I was extreamly mad because i lost my exp. Through my hatered i studied the creature and i devised the most extravagant scheme ever. I was wondering if my fellow Citizens of norrath would aid me. Darkies and Lighties come together in a mass horde to take one down. "What's in it for me" a person might ask. Well i think that not only the feeling you get from uniting with all of the inhabitants of norrath to squash a common evil but a great possibilty of an uber pay off and Extream exp or maybe nothing just a cold hard defeat.I am not really sure if they drop anything or if they even give exp. They are most likely the least killed Npc in the game. I have heard of one or two being killed but to my knowlage no loot has ever been identified. There are only a couple of reasons why i have not been able to find the loot items either 1. The uber guild who took one down came up with an awsome item that they dont want to get nerfed because of 1000000 crying lowbies saying its too powerfull so they did not add it to new item lists 2. None of them have ever been killed 3. Normal Loot for lvl of mob 4. No loot :( Now i am not really sure yet of the master plan but i am thinking along the lines of a massive head on attack group attack at random with no aperant stratagey.A person could even make a mule char and lvl to 5 or 6 toe just for this battle.Toe to Toe with the Unchecked Evil of the world. Or i have got a more methodical aproach. Either way i could be just stupid or really tired but that is my idea and i am willing to set up shop on any server. e-mail me at massive_nexus_strike@YHAOO.COM if you have any ideas, you want to join (( lvl is of no importance 1-65 doesnt matter Class either warriors clerics shaman monks i am in need of warm bodies :) )) or you just want to flame about how stupid i am either way i will welcome your emails and i will try my very best to email you back .No matter what it says. More information on nexus is always welcome. E-mail me and give it a chance.

Happy hunting and good luck.

The nexus scions are only able to be damaged by Non Resistable Damage. As far as I know, that only consists of Lifeburn, damage shields, and a Monk's Dragon Fang. Needless to say, I saw a monk and cleric take one out in North Karana, and nothing spectacular dropped. Experience wasn't phenomenal either. The mobs don't have an amazing amount of hit points, but it's hard to damage them.

Don't believe what you read about these not agrroing. I was doing reasonably well there and they all conned dubious or indifferent when the aviak I was hitting ran up a slope. I followed and Wham 2 Quetzels jump on me and chase me into water. Boat runs aground and sticks. I decide that corpse on dry land is preferable and walk onto beach to die. Long CR. Otherwise great place :)

Odd stamina loss
# Feb 02 2002 at 2:31 AM Rating: Decent
I recently made my first voyage across the Ocean of Tears from Freeport, and at some point during the trip my stamina started dropping for no apparent reason. I was doing nothing but sitting, and when it got down to about 2 bubbles the stamina started rising again. Not long after it went back to full, I arrived at the Faydwer dock. Anyone have any idea why ths happened?

Loss of Stamina is normal, I call it sea sickness. Its been that way as long as I can remember. I think VI did it to Nerf fighting/casting while on the boat.

Seafury Cyclops at 1st Dock

I was boating from Antonica to Faydwer, pulled up at 1st dock, Seafury Cyclops was attaching someone on the end of the dock and then it quickly aggrod on me. I was of course caught quite off-guard, and with no protection from running around the boat as soon as you can spell damn I was on a corpse retrieve (corpse found later underwater by pier). I expect this was a fluke, but for my 1st trip through Ocean of Tears I certainly shed a few over my poor soggy, crab infested corpse.

Well after about 10 hours camping Wiltin Windwalker for my Ivy Etched Legs quest, I came to the following conclusion:

The pirate camp on Seafury Island would be a GREAT place for Dark races to farm Firiona Vie faction. There are 4 MoBs there (5 if you count Wiltin himself...). I never killed the buccanneer (as this slows down possible Wiltin spawns), so I'm not sure of his faction, but the other ones all give:

+Firiona Vie
-Pirates of Gunthak (any reason to care about this? It's not the Iceclad gnome faction.)

The respawn time on these guys (except the buccaneer/Wiltin) seems to be less than 5 minutes. I expect to see DE necros strolling the cobbled streets of Firiona Vie very soon...

Hi ,
i am a lvl 9 druid and have just started this , but i would recommend getting bound in kaladim , getting a lot of bags and heading to oot . get on the boat and zone to OoT when you pass some rocks jump off . there will be an island with 4 or 5 gobs on t . i , as a druid , harmony , snare then run to the top of the rock , when the gob is on the rock root and dd , when gob gets to half life snare then blast down to where it wants to flee and bash it a round till it's good and dead. the loot is good , a bow selling for almost 2 gold and 4 arrows . i plan to hunt here till lvl 11 or 12 .
happy hunting all ,

Sister Isle really nice
# Aug 10 2001 at 1:48 AM Rating: Excellent
As a 21st lvl cleric, I made some good loot on Sister Isle. The purity belts sell for 1pp and 3gp, and the sisters spawn so many times and so fast you really don't have any downtime (unless you have to meditate).

Yeah, there are pirates on the island that get pissy when you start pounding the sisters. One pirate made a bee line straight for me when I wasn't even close to him! At 21st lvl, though, he was blue and easy to tear down (and that was with one of the sisters pounding on me, too).

I learned to stay close to the shore. If you avoid the center of the island you can hammer the sisters one at a time and avoid most of the pirates. Plus, some of the sisters have an annoying healing capability that can make a battle last uncomfortably longer. So, my point is, stick to the shore and solo one sis at a time.

Also, kudos out to the guy that mentioned how to board a boat just by swimming into it. Nice. That little tid-bit saved me a lot of sweat and tears.

For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, I learned that if you swim head on into the front of the boat you'll board the bottom lvl. Real handy if you're an evil person like me and have to avoid the dock.

The Goblin Island (which is next to Sister Isle) has some nice blue creepies for hunting. The problem is that nobody is ever there to hunt with and the goblins tend to cluster if you're not careful. I had to Gate and then camp twice just to get away from a nasty fight (there isn't anywhere to zone on these blasted rocks). So, yeah, if you run into trouble with the Gobs then just Gate (if you can) and camp. Works just like zoning, only not as convenient.

Also, Root is an important spell to have on Sister Isle. If you don't have Root, I pity you. The sisters like to turn tale and run when things get rough which causes you to wander towards the center of the island--not good. Just keep that in mind when killing these wenches (I don't care if they wear purity belts; they're still dirty whores in my book).

Fellow darkies: there's nowhere to sell here. One player mentioned a wizard merchant on the cyclop island, but I think that's more trouble than it's worth. Therefore, make sure you have plenty of sacks and bags for the goodies.

Oh, and don't forget to say "hi" if you see me there. I hunt there every now and then for some extra loot. ;-)

I'm a 14 druid. Can I use Levitate and SoW to transport me and a friend to Aviak Island, so save on the swim and agro dangers? We both have Camo, because he is a mage, so we can /follow each other under camo (great quirk there). Ofcourse, I can also cast see invis on him. :)

Just wondering. I'm usually limited to a few hours a night when I play. I don't want to spend it waiting on the boat.

Thanks

Hi there.

You cannot cross zonelines into Ocean zones (Ocean of Tears, Timorous Deep, or Iceclad) unless you're on the boat/raft/barge that makes the journey. In other words, NO, you cannot Lev/SoW from Butcherblock or Freeport into the Ocean of Tears.

You have to take the boat into the zone. Once you're in there, though, you can jump off the boat, Lev/SoW, and run directly to your destination.

Just keep in mind - these ocean zones are HUGE! Expect a long run, whatever your destination.

sirens and aviaks
# Aug 02 2001 at 11:13 PM Rating: Default
The sirens are crappy exp at 16 and they take a while to respawn. I'm a 16 druid and went to the aviaks, man what a place!! It looks like you can just pull out to the shore, so I did and sure enough a tanager comes a runnin to the rescue to kill me. I even watched him come over the hill running at me and I was way near where the boat is. Luckily there was another player there to get me out of my bind but I don't understand why he aggro'd on me from so far away. Kinda discouraged me from staying there but it looks like the best exp I can get at my lvl without dying. Anyone have any better suggestions?

Don't 16 druids have Harmony? Cast Harmony on the MoB you want to pull, then pull it quickly with something non-AoE (non-damaging is even better, i.e. Cancel Magic).

The trick to Harmony is that the MoB you pull cannot run past other MoBs on the way to you, or they will aggro as well. Always pull the closest MoBs first. Adjust your angle of attack as neccesary.

Gargoyles on Spectre Island
# Jul 23 2001 at 11:28 AM Rating: Decent
Great Hunting for a 23 ranger or the like!

Island Details: On the spectre island the spectres (5) stick close (no roaming) to the "tower" in the middle of the island, they also have a small agro range which makes this all possible. There are also 5 other mobs, at 23 thats what you'll be working on. Depending on how someone left the island (more on this later) it will probably be 5 greater skeletons or 5 gargoyles. If its 5 gargoyles skip this next part.

If the skels are up kill them off (don't have to kill them all, but may have to cycle through 3 or 4 or more) until one or more gargoyles spawn (I like to get at least two up). The gargoyles will fight off the skels until there are no more skels and only gargoyles. Leaving you free to pull gargoyles.

I like to set up on the northeast corner of the island by the dead tree (way in the corner) the monsters do not roam here and you will be free from adds. I have seen some people pulling spectres to the northwest corner of the island, so this may be a safe spot to pull to also, but I am not sure about that. BTW I've never seen a skel or gargoyle in the NW corner by the itty piece of island apart from the rest of the island, so it might be okay.

Gargoyles are magic only, so make sure you have magic weapons/boots or your spells loaded. I've been really successful with melee and ignites (no kicks, I don't have magic boots :( ) I usually have about 5 minutes of down time per mob.

As far as loot, I've been getting 1 eye/5 gargoyles (off the top of my head) and I can sell them for 9plat each at sisters island (I'm ally with around an 90 cha).

For experience I get about 1/2-1/3 blue bubble per gargoyle. Not too bad.

BTW Please leave the island with one or two (or more) gargoyles up! This will leave the island with all gargoyles for the next adventurer coming through!

Happy Hunting!

I'm a newbie Gnome Wizard (4) in Kaladim. I want to take the boat to Freeport. I'm trying to get to Rivervale to meet up with some Halflings there. I don't know anything about the boat travel, but the MOBs sound way out of my league. If I stay on the boat, is there any danger or do the Mobs only attack if you leave the boat? I dont want to get all the way out there and die and be stuck back in Ak' Anon! The idea is to level with the Halflings, so I don't want to build up anymore before the trip. Is this possible or should I work on getting a higher level before attempting the voyage?

You can generally expect to have a very uneventful (and boring) ride to freeport. I have read about a pirate getting on a ship and killing PCs, but I'm not sure if he's in the area THIS ship travels through. Anyway, if it is, then it probably doesn't happen too often. I made the trip many times before I got my port spells and never had the guy give me any grief at all.

Your problem, though, is not so much the boat ride anyway. It's the walk that follows. But if you bind in Freeport before you zone into East Commons, you will probably make it eventually, but you may lose a corpse or two to decay during the attempt(s).

Your best bet is to bind in Freeport and put EVERYTHING you have in the bank except the items a new character is "born" with. That way, corpse decay won't matter at all.

Next, make as many runs as it takes to get to Rivervale. You will zone from West Freeport into East Commons, then into West Commons, then Kithicor Forrest, and finally into Rivervale.

Kith is Everquest's Sleepy Hollow. Terrible things come out to play there at night. But if you make it that far and wait for daytime, you'll find it to be a low level zone.

Watch for the Rivervale entrance tunnel on the right-hand wall as you approach High Hold Pass. Got to keep a sharp eye out though. It's easy to miss. Best plan here is to ask your friends to wait for you in Kith just outside that tunnel. They'll be much easier to spot from far off than the entrance itself is.

Good travels.
RE: First Boat Ride

Going from BB to Freeport is safe, the ship doesn't stop on sister island where pirates have on occation got on the boat. Though to my knolage the only way that happens there is when someone runs onto the boat expecting to be safe and just ends up pulling the thing on to kill all the passengers.
The Water Mage

I have a new idea that might be fun for mages that like to roleplay - the water mage. You would only use the water pet, not any of the other pets, and you would only fight in watery areas. I think that this would actually be doable, and I might try it out. Here is what it might look like for you hunting in only watery spots:

1-7 : your newbie zones, don't have to hunt in water spot yet
8-15 : wisps in erud's crossing, sirens in OOT, Jonah in Lake Rathe at level 12
16-23: gargoyles in OOT, birds in Lake Rathe, lots of things in Lake of Ill Omen, crocs on beach of Oasis
24-34: sisters/dwarves in OOT, bunch of things in Lake of Ill Omen
35-38: spectre groups in OOT and oasis, gorillas in timorous deep with a partner, a few things in lake of ill omen
39-48: soloing gorillas in timorous or high level goblins in Lake of Ill Omen, can group and do specs in Oasis and OOT, can solo Gornit on Seafury Island, can group in Kedge Keep
49-55: seafuries in OOT and raptors in Timorous Deep

You wouldn't have to hunt 100% of the time in water areas, but you COULD get from 8 to 55 in only watery areas and still be able to pick up great exp. and money (good money would be from wisps, gargoyles, and gornit). I didn't even list a lot of the other watery spots that are also good hunting. I think it would be a fun roleplaying challenge. Would anyone else try it?

Great for all you evil characters who don't care too much about losing faction with lighties anyway...
Take the boat from Freeport (bind yourself if you want) and get off at the first island. Be careful, especially if you're KOS in Freeport. The boat stop is guarded by several very high level named NPCs that you don't want to mess with and they are KOS to you.
Circle around to the other side of the island and look for the Sisters of Erollisi. At level 12, most of the them should con blue, but there are exceptions. They cough up decent XP, but the loot is the main here. The Sisters drop Purity belts which sell to NPC merchants for about 1pp, and they also drop Elven blood (2gp or so, stackable), as well as Rusty Halberds that make good pet weapons, but they're heavy so you may not want to take them to sell.
Just load up on Purity belts (2sta, 2str, 3ac, waist slot) and either sell them off to other players or to merchants and make a lot of cash.

You can also get good exp. soloing these girls at levels 24-34 as a magician or necromancer. There are two level 25 sisters on the island that are great exp. and loot. One of them stands on the dock of the island. The other stands right next to a tree that is next to the dock. If you stand at the end of the dock you can fight them bot without having to agro the other. Be sure to root or snare though!

Corpse on boat
# Apr 28 2001 at 7:44 PM Rating: Decent
I found that you don't want to die on the boats going between Buther Block and Freeport, nor do you want to drag your corpse to the boat to loot it. If you die on the boat, your corpse gets scraped off the boat when the boat zones, and disappears when the zone resets (about once every hour). If you drag your corpse to the boat, attempting to loot it will result in an error message, and it will disappear when the boat zones.
