How Rare a Drop?
# Apr 21 2001 at 1:27 AM Rating: Default
I camped the squire for 7 hours and i got NOTHING, only 2 squires the WHOLE time, and all others were placeholders, ::sigh::. My question is, is the fork a really rare drop on the squire himself or is it just a rare drop b/c of all the damn placeholders...

I camped the squire for a total of about 5 hours. The first time I camped him was at night, about 1 am on a weekday night. VERY quiet in Guk. I killed about 4 squired during that time. Seemed like he was popping about half the time. Well, he only dropped the Collar of the Undead, but I was pretty excited! I came back the next morning and sat for a longgg time, probably about an hour, before a squire popped. Another collar....another hour went by, but then about 2 more popped out of the next 3 spawns and, by god, that second one was holding a spear thing. I got excited right when I saw it, thinking it was the Runed Bone Fork. Squire was conning light blue to my 25 SK so he was a pretty easy kill, and sure enough, I got my Bone Fork there. Not too bad, and I got decent XP while I was camping, so I was happy.

Ghoulbane camp

At what lv can a shaman solo camp the ghoulbane? I want to know because I play alot during off-peak times and I find it difficult to find groups in Lguk, so when I wait I want to go camp the ghoulbane (I have a lv52paladin who never had a ghoulbane before).

the saltwater crocks that pop in the ac room can't be hurt be loweer level cleric spells (I am level 17 cleric) and my DD spells have no effect on them, make sure you have a hard hitting tank with you or a good pet.

Pulling just 1 or 2 gaz to the zone at a time
# Aug 27 2000 at 1:00 PM Rating: Excellent
I have 2 characers who both leveled off the froglock gaz around lvl 20 or so, a warrior and a magician. I made good exp on them, and there is a trick to getting *just* one or two in a pull and taking them out solo. First of all, pull *EVERYTHING* to the innothule zone. Runners have a much farther way to go to find friends. Also, don't keep chasing the frogs if they make it to the water lol they WILL keep on going deeper and deeper in. I'm going to attempt to explain how to break the spawn solo or with a partner safely.

Breaking the spawn:
Hug the left wall through the first 2 rooms, then over those boards above the water (do NOT go up last board at the end sloping up). You come into a room with a few guards.. First of all, walk up to the them and make *sure* the guards won't agro on you - if they do run them to the inny zone and kill em. Next you want to go straight through that gaurd room and you come to the next room. Its basically a pit with boards as ramps to get down in and out of. You will see 1 tuk/witchdoc right next to the side of the pit at the entrance to the room beside the first ramp/board - it will prolly agro on you so CAREFULLY inch up to the pit, get its attention, and inch back until it is out of the pit... then run it to the zone and kill it. Go back to the pit and you should see 2-4 gaz standing there. Now if you wait and time it right the Gaz on the left will eventually roam away (up to squire spawn), and the other Gaz on the right will roam away (up spiral steps to Tonta Knight/Idealist which are BAD). Basically sit on your butt till there are only 2 toads standing there. Nuke em or shoot em with an arrow and get their attention, run for the inny zone and don't look back. When you get to the zone and turn around *hopefully* you just got 2 gaz (this is why you kill the guards and carefully pull away that tuk lol). If not then one of the 2 roaming toads was on his way back and noticed =P, just zone and prepare to try again. As either of my characters (at lvl 19 for the mage, about 20 or 21 for the warrior) I could take 2 gaz. If they are overwhelming you this is why you went to a zone to fight hehe.

Safely pulling those 2 roamers:
Wait in the pit room till just 1 of the roamers is there and pull that to the zone and kill it. Be *VERY* carefull when pulling the roaming gaz on the right EVEN if he is the only toad there. If that froglock starts turning around to face his steps just as your nuke goes off, guess what - he runs up and gets the tonta room on you (BAD) just zone hehe don't look back, this really doesn't happen that often.

Getting the squire alone:
Now if you manage to break that spawn and kill the 2 stationary and 2 roaming spawns, there are a couple more targets for you. The Froglock Gaz Squire is a wee bit tougher than your average gaz, and can be pulled safely all by himself IF those 4 spawns in the pit are dead. He drops the Collar of Undead Protection Ac5 Sv Poi&Dis+7 as his common loot, and Runed Bone Fork with Sv Fire Cold Magic +10 (peircing weapon equippable in ranged weapon slot) as his rare rare drop. You go to that pit room and hug the left wall and go up this slope (where that toad on the left roams to).. Just at the top of that long ramp up you can see into this next room. From the top of the ramp, if you were facing DOWN the ramp, the squire spawns just a few paces directly to your left just around that corner (stationary spawn sometimes a placeholder). There is a gaz in that big room also that roams from one end of the chamber to the other - be carefull about him when pulling the squire.. That toad roams close enough to him to agro on you when you get the squire (you can see if he is there though, before you pull). If your really unlucky and pull the squire while the other gaz is next to him you could get the squire, a gaz, and a tuk (tougher tuk than normal btw). So before you grab the squire look into the room and make sure there isn't a gaz standing there (if there is wait for it to hop away). Pull the squire/placeholder back down that ramp, through the pit, and back all the way to the innothule zone CAREFULLY. Once those 4 spawns in the pit are dead it is very possible to get the squire or his placeholder all alone and pulled all the way to the zone.

The loot:
If you ever see that squire and he is holding a spear... its a runed bone fork. I have seen people camp that toad for many hours with no luck alot of times. I can fetch a quick 1000pp for one on tunare. Yea newbies will try to tell me its worth 300, they are dumb lol. I've sold 3 of em for 1k myself and seen my friends sell theirs at that price too. Gaz also drop some decent loot, usually weilding several gold apeice and armor as well. Also the occasional bronze weapon or rare peice of fine steel. The armor they drop is netted, woven, and mesh in order of worst to best. Mesh and woven sells in stores for a plat or so apeice or more to a player (monks love it). Also, netted/woven/mesh is all magical including the gloves (monks need magic gloves to punch magic critters, unfortunately there is no such thing as boots).

The best thing about this camp is noone is ever there. Everyone around level 20 seems to be afraid of guk for some reason, do it right and you can brag about how you solo there. If its too tough for ya, get a partner or maybe 2 friends... you can do it! Once you learn the spawns and the fine art of pulling here its easy =). Good luck to anyone who plans on tackling guk, I hope my strategies work as well for you as they have for me.
almost forgot, some pathing bugs to look out for
# Aug 27 2000 at 1:21 PM Rating: Good
Sometimes when you pull gaz to the zone they will get 'stuck' in that pool of water right near the innothule zone... they usually swim around in it for about 30 seconds then teleport to you (without friends, unless you made a bad pull originally).

Also, when pulling gaz out of the pit they tend to run over to the board sloping up, then run back to their spawn points, THEN go and run up that board exiting the pit. This is not a bad thing, the pathing here actually helps you get far enough away that they don't hit you all the way back to the zone.

Every once in awhile you'll pull a bad toad hehe, sort of a crazy one... This is one of the wierdest pathing bugs I have EVER seen. Basically you'll go hit a gaz and run to the zone... the gaz never shows up, 99% of the time as soon as you exit that 2nd room he hits you. Try to pull him towards the zone and he runs the other way back INTO the dungeon. So follow him back... usually it then disapeers, only to pop up on your head later on. They never go to the zone its impossible to pull them there - if you try to get the toad to chase you it runs the other way. I've had this happen a bunch of times, only 2 things you can do once this bug strikes... zone to clear your agro list (toad goes back to his spawn point and un-bugs), or don't pull the toad and fight it wherever it attacks you. It *will* teleport away at low life sometimes if you fight it, other times it fights to the death, once I even had the toad run away TO the innothule zone (beat-up mobs never run there, they run deeper inside not for the exit). Basically the toad freaks out and just won't pull, sometimes it hops around and finds friends, other times it just sits there and waits for you. I've even had the toad disapeer completely once, and then every toad that spawned in the pit went on auto-pull and just ran up to me at the zone. Its really weird, it doesn't happen often but if you hunt there long enough your sure to see this bug eventually. Take my advice, just zone
Thanks!

Wow! I thought I was going crazy until I read your post. I've been camping out in Upper Guk the past 3 days and it seems that at least once per night the room I'm in will suddenly come alive as about 10 Frogs bust through the door outta nowhere and begin to try to take out my group. It must be the one that gets away thats causing these... one of em always seems to disapear and we simply wrote it off as a bug.

Heh... Thanks for the info. At least now I know why the 20+ frogs spawn.
Golden Rod for Enchanter Quest (& too many healers)

I am trying to get my hands on the Golden Rod, quest item needed for a Sol Ro Enchanter Quest.

The item is dropped by the Froglok Priest in Upper Guk, however he is in a room with a LOT of company. I think about 5 Shamen and a Shin Knight - those pesky Shamen have a nasty habbit of healing en mass !

Last night my group (Necro 28, Druid 26 & I Enchanter 27) tried with no luck. Pulled the preist to the corridor causing a train of everyone. Lots of AE Mezzing and Colour shifts but just too many healer types. Can you offer any suggestions how our group could take this boy down - is there a way to break the spawn, such as taking the guys outside the pool first before those inside the pool ?

I wandered in here for the rod at about level 25. Met another chanter camping (35) camping the priest. He was having some difficulty also.

2 enchanters made it easier. We both had pets up.
The first kill was the hardest as we had to break the spawn. He pulled and got about 5. I had priest targetted and mezzed it as the train went by. Tashed one, took a hit and rooted it with pet wailing on it. Mezzed another. Not sure what other chanter did but he got rid of the other 2. Came back and while I kept my 2 busy, killed the priest and then assisted on mine. His pet died and mine was barely standing.

Second kill was hardly a bother. He pulled, only got 3. I mezzed priest and he trained the other 2 away. I killed priest, got rod and we both gated.

We were lucky of course that 2 successive spawns had the rod.

I got this last night at level 33. I was grouped with a level 31 druid. I started by Soothing the two shaman at each end of the room, and then the ones in the pit. I pulled just the priest, and ran him out of the room in the directon of the Ladder room, and simply nuked him to death.

With the help of the faction spells, I am not KOS in guk, so that made it pretty easy to just walk up to the frogs and cast Sooth on them in place. Also, the level difference may have kept some in the pit from joining in.

i got this at lvl 26. I Got the rod by having our ogre tank nail one of the frogies and then the rest aggroed. He zoned (part of my plan) and took all but the priest which i managed to root. The cleric mage and wizard all nuked him about twice and he was down for the count.

Crocs

A good place to get some exp by yourself around level 13 or so it to hit the crocs in Upper Guk. Rarely camped and very easy to kill these crocs make for fast exp. Zone in from Innothule Swamp and head down a bits, take the first right and you should see some water. Explore the water a bit and you will find some crocs. Good luck :)

Ummm, hate to say it, but only a moron would attempt to solo these guys at level 13. You would be lunch. A few low-mid'20's would have a never ending stream of exp here tho. The gators are pullable one by one, and once they are gone, The froggies outside can be pulled in for extra excitement. If things get too hairy, there is an underwater zone not very far away to escape to. Once ya zone thru, there is room to breathe on the other side so it is safe. This can be a boring *** camp if you are a boring *** group, but if ya like action, exp, and the chance at some
good items. Go for it. The most frustrating part is fending off the farmers! lol

hate to break it to you, Anon, but i make 2 moron's attempting to solo these guys at lvl 13. My troll SK was getting great exp soloing these guys from level 13-15 the ones near the innothule zone conned blue or yellow to me. Maybe your class/race combo is not as well-built for soloing?

At the very back of Upper Guk, just before the zone line to Dead side lower GUK is the Ancient Croc Room. Here is a 'safe' if somewhat boring camp for LV 25 plus. The spawn is 1 to 5 Swamp crocs that varied between Blue & Red to me at LV 27.
The spawns arent linked so can be taken down one at a time - they hit hard however so make sure to have them slowed down and your pet ready.
The rare spawn of the Ancient croc (didnt see in a 4 hour camp once) has a drop of either gator sleeves or legs - the sleeves are nice for casters AC4 INt 4 Plus some HP too.
Bring a book with you its a long wait...

I was a LVL 30 Chanter and this has to be the best XP I ever had solo. It is the best because I Leveled 30 - 31 in about a 4 hour camp with virtually no risk. Kind of boring, but it was a good time to pound a few. At lvl 30 the placeholder saltwater crocs con blue and give you exactly 1 blue bubble XP. The ancient Croc is an even con and gives a blue and a half bubble, not to mention the loot.

I was really lucky. The AC popped after 1 placeholder spawn 3 times. I was thinking to myself I might never leave (hehe). Never saw him again, 6 Placeholder spawns and I went to bed.

Looted 2 Gatorscale Sleaves 6 AC +15 HP +4 INT
and 1 Gatorscale Legging 7 AC +15 HP +4 WIS

I just camped this Croc for 15hrs straight and let me give you a piece of advice, turn on the tv and rent some movies cause its boring. And this croc can really be a pain, he was a no show for 12hrs. straight, then he popped three times in 2hrs. then i waited another hour and went to bed(i finally did get those sleves on the thirs kill, woohoo). So dont give up he can be a real pain or not if your lucky.
