The Nest is the very brooding ground of the dragons. It's split into four primary wings, each host to its own hatcheries: Desert (north), Metallic (northwest), Ice (west), and Lava (south). There is a fifth wing (to the east of the entrance area), but it's mostly empty save for a few spider caves and roaming dervishes.

The storm dragon, Yar`Lir, has done her best to keep the Nest protected from outside influence, but a corruption has seeped into the area, and the Nest's residents and hatchlings are being infected. There are also rumors of a second storm dragon holed up beyond the locked door at the end of the east wing. Perhaps corrupted by the same disease that's been making its way through the caverns.

some general notes for those new to the zone like I was.

zone-in
The entrance is in the Broodlands. Find the lake in the center of the zone and then find the island in the lake and then drop down the shaft with the waterfall. You fall, but no Lev is needed just jump in.

It's safe to zone-in and the zone out it a teleport pad that is close by.
I haven't been by them but my map seems to show teleport pads farther in that could be used to succor back or out of the zone, I'm not sure.

Evac
Pretty much takes you to the zone-in spot.

Levitate
Works in the zone but not especially needed

root/snare
It works.

Invis
All the mobs are KoS so invis is good but some drakes randomly see invis so better check each one. Seems to happen when there's groups of them. But it's rare. All the corrupted/cursed/fallen mobs farther in see invis.

Summoning
Names summon but the regular mobs don't

Low health
I didn't see anyone run at low health

Agro
Takes a few seconds to get agro. You might stand there and think it's safe when they notice you all of a sudden. When they seem paired, or in a triple, they usually are paired and both will agro. Not the third one usually.

Roamers
Lots of roamers in the zone. They will roam over bridges and come out of side tunnels and and roam down tunnels. Best to look behind you or kill mobs you can see in the side tunnels as you go by.

Healers
Several mobs are healers.
For the drakes look out for Templars and cursed guardians in particular.
For the Iron mobs, the Melders are healers

Mob bufs:
ok, the templars heal eveyone, its what healers do.
The auspice mobs have self bufs: feedback, shield of the magi, wondrous rapidity
The templars buf with: fortitude, blessed armor

loot
No plat at all drops.
A fair number of scrolls drop from casters. Which is still not many actually.
Several rubies and emeralds drop.
A fair number of herb type stuff drops. Not sure if useful in todays game.

Enchanters:
Pretty much all the drakes have mana to steal. The defenders, auspices and templars can be charmed and I'd guess they all can be.

-- Morro/morrty/morrgue

I was farming some parchments there with my 84 necro Morrgue. Mobs were green to light blue. With a 69 warrior with me to get some xp while I farmed, his Mercenary cleric healed ok but ran out of mana rather quickly. We switched to my mercenary cleric and had no mana issues.

Some Mob HP Numbers:

93K A corruptred guardian
46K A corrupted Protector
40K A fallen nestling
65K A metallioc sharpfang
28K A nest Auspex
40K A nest defender
33K A nest drake
30-53K a nest templar (healer)
38-80K an iron protector

65 didn't work either. My forage-bot might be 70 by the end of the day, I'll know if that's high enough. 70 works. Not sure where in between it is, but 70 can zone in.

I know the undead does summon... and pretty much all the non undead near the entrance does not. Other than that I don't know, never been very far in except on raids.
DoN Missions
# Dec 08 2005 at 4:10 PM Rating: Good
Noticed you were missing a few DoN missions in the Quest list for The Accursed Nest so I figured I'd list the ones they will give me. All these missions are given out by Pericolo L`Morte in the Dark Reign encampment:

(1) Scrap Metal
These dragons are dangerous foes, of that there is no doubt. We cannot let them sway our stance. We need weapons and armor that will allow us to be victorious in our battles against these creatures. We can craft what we need, you just have to get us the raw material. They say that there are dragons with scales made of metal and that their egg shells are also metallic. Bring me a large amount of their scales and shells and we'll make it worth your while. We've found a way into the lair, or nest, or whatever it is, of these dragons. I've marked the spot on a map for you. The rest if up to you.

(2) Dragon's Egg
We are seeking some truely fearsome mounts to instill fear in our enemies. I believe the dragons here would work quite well, and I have no doubt that we could train one of those beasts if we raised it from birth. We would be unstoppable! You must find me an egg to start working on immediately. Make your way into the very nest of them and bring me one, get going!

(3) Web of Lies
We have learned that some people are attempting to gain an alliance with the goblins that live in the Nest. It seems that they are unhappy with their draconic masters attempt to use them as fodder against our assaults. The faction of fools that is trying to sway them to turn on their masters is telling them that the assaults is entirely our doing and that the Norrathians invading their lands have been urged to do so by us alone! So far the goblins have only allowed one emissary into their lair unharmed, some halfling woman. I guess she's too small to scare them or she smells like pies or something. Regardless of the reason, I need you to go in their and kill her. Them tell these goblins about the deception played on them by these fools. You just have to be convincing enough that the goblins don't kill you before you can get out. We all know that both sides are exploiting the opportunity for new loot and power, but as least we're honest about it.

(4) Spider's Eye
Stories say that when the most ancient spider queens die their bodies turn to dust because of their age. That dust blows away, leaving two stones behind. Some tales say that the brain and heart become the stones; others say it is the soul and the mind. They say that these stones have incredible magic powers when places together to form what is called the Spider's Eye. Some say that the combined stone will grant eternal life to the one that ingests it if they survive the pain of it. Others say that it turns the imbiber into a powerful half spider creature. One tale describes the planted stone growing into a magical tree; another says it's a nest of spiders that serve their new master. If even one of these stories is true, this Spider's Eye is a powerful item that will add to our own power. Bring these stones to me, undamaged and seperated.

(5) Lair of the Blackwing
Scouts return with reports of a black-wing drakes that hunt our operatives in the Dragon Lands. I need a group of adventurers to journey to the Nest and clean out their lair.
Slay six of these creatures and return with one of their talons as proof your success.
Be forewarned, our scouts report these drakes belong to a corrupted brood, a clutch that hatched near the epicenter of the curse which has spread through the Nest. It is whispered that necromantic magic now corrupts their bodies, making them more volatile and malignant than ordinary drakes. This will not be an easy task.

(6) Lost Comrades
Five days ago I sent a group of adventurers into the Nest. Their mission was to explore the ice dragons' lair and recover a lost artifact known as the Orb of Midwinter. Only one adventurer has returned, and he arrived slumped over his horse, almost dead in his saddle. We do not know what has become of the rest of the group, but based upon the survivor's fevered whispers, we believe others may have also survived. Journey into the Nest and see if you can salvage this expedition. Find any survivors and then recover the Orb of Midwinter. The missing adventurers are named Varronghast, Dorsya, Kellendro, and Gorvash.

Next two missions only show up at Kindly or better faction:
(7) Rivals
A party of filthy Norrath's Keepers have found a way into the Nest. We're not sure what they are after, but it must be important for them to undertake such a risky quest. They've had a few hours head start on you, so you'll need to move quickly. Follow their tracks, catch up to them, and kill them. If they have found what they seek, bring it to me. If not, keep moving and find it. If you're unable to uncover the treasure, then I'll find someone else to do the job once you fail.

(8) Clues
Reports say that the place the dragons call "the Nest" doesn't look much like a nest. We know that adventurers have been in there and they tend to be pretty destructive, but from what we've heard they probably didn't cause the kind of damage that has been reported. Our agents have discovered a secret entrance into the ice lair. Get in there and see if you can find anything useful about what happened. You probably won't find any papers or lore, dragons live a very long time and pass their traditions down verbally. To be honest, I'm not really sure what we're looking for. Just go look and see what you can find.

Note: All the mission blurbs above are reproduced from the ones in game and any bad grammar was left just the way it appears in game.
