BlackBurrow is the home of the Sabertooth Clan gnolls, a group not particularly fond of outside visitors. It connects to both the Everfrost Peaks and Qeynos Hills.

Be advised that the dense gnoll population combined with their habit of running deeper into the stronghold for help can make for some pretty impressive trains.

I was in Blackburrow and also got a drop called Assorted Research page "X". I actually have pages 1, 2, and 3.
Has anyone had any luck finding out what these are for?

Give Assorted Research Pages 1 - 3 to Rephas, by the lake in the Qeynos Hills. He in turn will give you an Enchanted Book to turn in to Juegile, outside the casters' guild in South Qeynos. Both will give you faction and xp, but Juegile will also reward you with a magic dagger (LORE, NO DROP, D5, AD27, CHA+1, INT+2, WIZ, MAG, ENC -- can only be used by HUM though.

If you talk to Salmekia Treherth in SFG she gives you a quest for armour. THen i spent 3 hours killing BB gnolls for the "ruined leather" clothing. Im looking for the sleeves they drop and the onlt peices i got were two boots. Anyone know if you have to kill a special gnoll for the sleeves??

Playing a lowbie, I killed a mob called the Gnoll Tactician, who dropped Blackburrow Battle Plans. A Commander dropped an item with a name like Assorted Research Pg 2, and I later got page one off of a regular gnoll. I have no idea what any of this is for.

I don't know whether the zone was patched, but it seemed like there were some new areas. At least I hadn't seen them before.

There are now armour quests available to human and half elf races and classes in and around the Qeynos area - similar to those found in Freeport. Just ask around the guild, and pay attention to new NPC's who weren't there before.

I would be very interested to hear what the story is with those new dropping bones myself! I've got a Ranger & a Monk with a sack full of gnoll finger bones, ulnas, etc. and can't find a mention of them anywhere; and haven't heard a peep from any of the NPCs I've hailed around town.
I love a good mystery, but still ...

New Quests?
# Jun 08 2002 at 2:33 PM Rating: Excellent
I have been hunting in BB with my 15 High elf enchanter for about a week farming gnoll teeth for faction in halas. I have also noticed after this last patch that the gnolls are dropping all kinds of disected body parts :) I have gotten at least a dozen differnt kinds, half of them are no drop. I have searched all over halas for new quests to no avail, so I have to assume they start somewhere in queynos. Anyonw know where? There are now 4 new kinds of pelts dropped too, HQ gnoll pelts, perfect gnoll pelts, and flawless gnoll pelts, as well as the patches of gnoll fur dropped before for the halas tailoring quest. anyone know about these either?

i could answer your question if you specify what the i tem name is or you can search the quest list if u want

ps. if u dont want the item and cant get rid of it just simply destroy it.
New quest?
# Jun 05 2002 at 4:25 PM Rating: Decent

following todays patch the gnolls are now dropping no drop bones. SO far off half a dozen kills I have an Ulna, back bone and feet bones.

I guess this means a new quest has been patched, but has anyone seen the starting point.

I'm on the Legends server, so don't know if this will be a server wide quest as yet.

I'm on Bertoxxulous and the no drop bones dropped there as well. Also I saw two other items in BB that I have nevr seen, vile of Gnoll blood and some type of ore (forget the full name). the last two may just be new to me. I'm currently playing a Half-warrior out of Qeynos and will post any findings concerning the bones. My gut reaction is to try finding the start point in the temple of life.

You can raise faction by simply killing Gnolls, but you'll be there for a while. Turning in the fangs is the fastest way, but you can't get into Qeynos that far without some sort of invis and a lot of luck. Even then some of the in-town factions may not get raised, but you will be ok with the Qeynos Guards.

Save the fangs so you can eventually get inside. And Ogre Warrior I knew did it, but it took him somewhere on the order of 250+ gnolls (very rough guess) to get out of KOS status. If you're higher level, and have some AoE spells, here's my Advice:

Stay on the top level of BB, looking down into the pit, there's a bridge there with 1-2 gnolls on it. Agro one of them with a small spell and he'll train up about 10-15 other gnolls all at once. You should warn anyone in the zone to be aware that you're doing it, but it's about the fastest way.

i've been looking for the snake ledge or pit or whatever...

i know they are two different spots... but that's about it.

the place i've found has one snake. it's near the door that doesn't open...

hunting there is nice... but slow... if i could find the place with 3 snakes things would go faster...

i've looked at the map and found it confusing... from the map it looks likei should fall down the trap in the tree... but i have heard that wasn't very smart...

i'm an untwinked lvl 9 monk that perfers to solo. sometimes the snakes get the best of me... and when there is only the one snake... and it's even well... i pretty much have to move along to something else... my computer lags a lot... sometimes for up to a minute... i'll be holding my own in a fight then lag... then i'm dead... so if i could find more than one snake the chances that i would find snakes that conned blue would be greater...

thank you in advance for any assistance you may offer

Ok, first you need to cross the bridge on level one. Now comes the fun part- instead of running under the bridge and drawing the long train, you have to run along the left wall till you cross the water. You will see a pit with standing water in it. Dive in and look for a hole in the wall under the water. This will take you into a place that has a ladder leading up a huge ledge. This is the way to Snake Ledge. Once at the top, you will see 4 snakes. Two on the ledge you're standing on, one just about 2-3 steps above you and finally one a few more step above and to the left. These are your victims. I made about 40pp in a little under an hour by reaping the Snake Fangs which sell for around 4gp each. I may have been lucky with the drops, but hey, luck has everything to do with it! Do not let the Snakes run from you! There is a Gnoll Guardsman at the top who is always looking for someone to pound just because he got up and looked at himself that morning. Good XP and serious money. Also snake venom sacs, used by rogues for making poison. Handy to have and sell. If this helps let me know. I know it works and it is rarely camped at all. Now the secret is out though. Have fun and remember, "The only good snake is a dead one!"

BB is great too bad I get lost in the caves and die all the time. My corpse must be in like 5 places now LOL. Low levelers be careful. If you get lost down there and killed all the time the best thing you can do is just get a map of BB and RUN to the nearest upper level so when you die you will at least find your corpse easily. Just my 2c, happy gaming.

Hi everyone! Had the most exciting time in BB last night (oy, guys, no comments please! :-) ). I usually solo or group with one guy - oops - so when I got an invite to group with four others in Blackburrow I was a bit wary, but I thought, heck I'm bored, why not?

So here I was with a dark elf caster, a barbarian warrior, a half elf druid and a human druid, down in th edepths of what someone was calling the Green Room. Huh? Never been down there and as a dizzy blonde, well I get lost in my own house, let alone the warren of tunnels there!

So we start kicking gnoll backsides and out they come like termites. Guardsmen, elite guards and the lot!! Whew, it was like wall to wall carpeting by the time we'd finished!!

Just like to thank Benyen, View, Hela and Kyana (excuse if I got the spellings wrong!) for such a great time and all I can say is thank the gods for Gate when you're facing a pee'ed off Elite Guardsman with less than one bubble of health left.

Love you all xxx

This usually happens if your Zone time is too long. Also, if your health is really low, sometimes you'll get "ported" to the Crossroads. Happened to me EVERY time I was at 1 Bubble or less.

I love Blackburrow. One of my favorite hunting grounds. The trains can be INCREDIBLE! It is sometimes worth it to die just to see 20 or more gnolls training up the tunnel to the zone. And if you live, all the better. What a fun place. Another tip, hit the snake ledge at around lvl 8 or 10, there are large snakes there you can kill, med if needed til they pop, and kill again. One right after another. 3 or 4 snakes live on the ledge, and will not gang up on you. If they get low on health, they run, er slither, up the tunnel, but don't bother to follow, they always come back, and they don't bring company like the gnolls who escape. This spot also sees relatively few trains compared to the rest of bb. To get there, you swim underwater, and then crawl up a ladder. I miss bb, since moving to Crushbone, think maybe I will go back for a visit.

This is a great place to solo a Barbarian warrior from level 7 up to level 21. Grouping is a lot safer and a lot more fun, I stumbled through the passageway to Black Burrow from Everfrost at level 7. I got to level 9 with groups and then ended up soloing a lot through level 19. I soloed the Gnoll Guardsman cave , from level 14 to 16, to the left as you get to the river after crossing the bridge, two guardsmen and a Gnoll spawn at the front of the cave, you can heal after killing them if you set in the back of the cave and the trains don't bother you. Then from level 16 to level 19, I went to the Elite Ledge, at the bottom of the ramp going straight rather than turing to cros the bridge, two elites and a gnoll spawn there, if you sit in the extreme left end of the ledge, you can heal after killing them and nothing bothers you, the trains don't go there. It is hard to solo this zone if you are a caster, things happen fast and you have to be able to kill and keep moving. There are a lot of places that a caster can sit and med and nothing bothers you, like the small ledge to the left at the bottom of the ramp before the bridge. Sometimes a big train pops up and cleans out the zone, you are usually safe in the Guardsman cave and on the Elite ledge. The Gnoll teeth can be turned in to the Guard Captain in Qeynos for good XP, faction and moonstones, the Moonstones can be turned in for a little XP, Black Burrow Brew, and some good faction, which can be sold for a little pp. I have been saving mine since level 7 and I have almost 400, based on what I did with a different character it looks like you get a whole level of XP at level 20 for about 300 Gnoll teeth. This has been the best zone in the game for me. At level 20 after squeezing all of the XP I can from Everfrost and Black Burrow, and learing table manners, I am going out into the world and fight Orcs and Kbolbs. Dredmaster, Barbarian Warrior.
Gnoll teeth are the key
# Jan 09 2002 at 1:39 PM Rating: Decent
I have to say that if you give Capt Tillin 4 teeth at a time, you can get LOTS of exp by collecting gnoll teeth. I went from 3 bubbles into lvl 9 up to over lvl 10 by turning in 24 teeth.

are gnoll teeth the same as gnoll fangs?, cause you cant give him gnoll fangs.

I noticed something new and rather unusual in the Burrow today when hunting on Fironia Vie Server with my Barbarian Warrior ...

There's a new spawn point for a pair of Gnolls in Qeynos Hills. Right at the Blackburrow Zone ENTRANCE, inside the cave there.

I'm sure you're all familiar with that spot. That's where we all RUN TO when we get TRAINED.

It caught me off guard at first. I thought someone had simply pulled the Gnolls from outside IN to the zone on their way in. But then, when I was resting there a little later (after getting trained), I saw them pop.

That changes Burrow strategy a tad.

Also, I saw a Gnoll wearing "claws" in there. After killing him he dropped "Worn Weighted Gloves" ... a monk/beastlord only h2h blunt weapon. And I'd heard "rumors" that there were NEW drops in the burrow. So this may be one of them.

Okay I'm fairly new in bb and i went at 8 in 10 mins (i swear) i gained a lvl. What i did is, at level 3 there are tons of blues and just went ape crazy on them and they were no more. Wait for the spawn and take em out again. This dungeon is so easy to gain exp. As for the trains, i havent seen any big ones for a long time. Ohh, yeah i almost forgot. Where is this world reknown fishing spot in there it would be great if someone could tell me! thanx and safe hunting in the burrow
