Part of the frigid plains of northern Antonica, the Everfrost Peaks are the barbarians' gateway into Norrath. Everfrost is divided into two areas:

In the west are the snow gorges, located outside the entrances to Halas in the North and BlackBurrow in the South, and home to many wandering low level goblins, polar bears, and wolves.

East of the gorges are the plains. Mammoths, leopards, orcs, undead, and spiders wander this area; creature levels increasing the further east you go. At the eastern edge of the plains is the stronghold of Permafrost, guarded by Lady Vox's ice giants.

A frozen river provides cover over a hidden entrance to an underground cave system. Should you choose to venture here, watch for the aggressive lich Miragul, the host of icebone skeletons, and massive glacier bears which occupy the caves.

Frequented by blinding snowsqualls and traversed by aggressive goblins, orcs, undead, and wildlife, Everfrost provides one of the more challenging experiences for new adventurers.

The Ice Gaints are over lvl 40 and the best way to get money is to find a friend who fights ice gaints and ask them if you could follow them and take the loot off the Ice Gaint Corpses the weapons sell for a bout 4-6pp each it is very fast and easy just need a friend

Another great way to get money doesn't require a friend, but it does require that you have some money already. Save up 100 plat or so, then bring it all out and /ooc say "does anyone need a banker?" Oftentimes someone hunting the giants will get tons of copper, silver, and gold, and this will weigh them down, so they will be willing to give up, say 120 plat worth of small change in return for 100 plat worth of plat peices.

The Hammer is a summoned weapon.
Do the Barb Shaman quest for the Initiate Symbol.
Jenkus in the Shaman Guild gives the quest.
1. Ask Cindl in the quilt shop, "What piece o' mammoth parchment"......she'll give ya the paper.
2. goto the vendor chick outside the shops and ask her, "What ink"........she'll give ya the ink
3. take the ink and parchment back to Jenkus....he'll give ya something to take to the bank guard in Qeynos
4. Guard in the Qeynos bank gives you a rolled up parchment (wanted poster)
5. Give to Jenkus and he gives you the initate symbol (necklace)
Don't remember stats on necklace...something like +1 Wis and something else, but has the effect:Summon Hammer.
You can summon a 1HB hammer that is like 6/25 Lore, No Drop, No Rent. I found out about this from reading the quests on this website. I'm a 42 Shaman and never really heard of this. So i ran out and did it real quick, although i have no use for the necklace or the summoned hammer. maybe if i knew about this quest when i was starting out. Everytime I go into Halas, I gladly help young shaman do this quest quickly. (Erollisi Mar SErver)

If you are talking about the Hammer of Wrath, it is a 1hblunt that procs from an amulet Barb Shamen can get. It's a quest item and pretty cool. It can also be acheived through Cleric/paladin spell.

That sounds like a Copper Amulet. Nothing very special about them, to my knowledge. They don't fetch very much from vendors, either.

Im not sure where or howyou get in the caves, but while I was looking at a map of Everfrost, I had the option of looking at the caves secion I (being lvl 3) just wanted to know about the above ground section, but if you want more information, look at the EQ Atlas, or jsut click on the "Antonica" section of the "Zones" category. It should bring you a map and guide for whichever zone yo chose. I hope this helps!

alot of info is there but certainly not all. There are many areas of the game that remain mapless and you need to explore. The hole you mention is there and there is also another opening to these caves just off one of the branches of the river. When you enter the hole you need some sort of oxygen as you will be underwater longer than you can handle

what do u have to get to have extra breath? Is it an item or a spell? And if so, what is it?
RE: CAVES
# Sep 11 2001 at 6:55 PM Rating: Decent
You need the spell "enduring breath," which can be cast by druids, shamans, and possibly other classes (ranger?) as well. The material component for the spell is fish scales. Also, there are certain items (fishbone earing) that have a permanent enduring breath spell on them. While you are under the effects of this spell, you will not need to breathe, and you can stay underwater for the entire duration of the spell if you want to, with no ill effects.

There are holes in the ice of the River. Swim down there and you will find a few gobbies. It's also the place you have to go to to find someone's corpse for one of the quests. Not sure if there are more caves or not down there but you will find a few things to kill.
RE: CAVES

If you go through the northmost hole in the ice and swim due north you will get to the entrance to the secret caves in EF. The glacier bear lives in here along with a bunch of ice boned skellies, and a super-necro and his pet.

You can make the swim without EB if you have a swimming skill of about 45 or better.

Caster Beads

Is there any place other than Everfrost to hunt for the caster beads? I've staked out one set of igloos that gives the goblin shaman, but haven't got anything except the ruined caster beads yet. Been hunting for quite a while.
RE: Caster Beads
# Feb 03 2001 at 10:02 PM Rating: Decent

I did complete this quest about a year ago but I was lucky, the caster beads are a very rare drop.

WHY would you want to complete the quest? Because the hammer goes in your ranged slot and is plus 5 mana. ^_^ Sucky weapon otherwise.

RE: Caster Beads
# Aug 30 2000 at 1:09 PM Rating: Default
I camped at the Goblin Igloos for 4 hrs, and killed 15 Casters only 1 set of shatterd beads...it is not a very good quest
RE: Caster Beads
# Oct 03 2000 at 3:16 PM Rating: Default
The caster beads are very rare. I worked the Goblin caster camp for 2 nights hoping to get a set of beads to get a magical hammer. Got lots of bags and beads and even several sets of shattered beads. Made a nice amount of money and even some xps with each gate back to Halas, but the goblins were already green so I was getting no skill to go with my xp. Now that the Initiate Symbol quest is in the game to get a magic hammer (and light source and wis boost) there is really no reason at all to go to the caster camp.
RE: Caster Beads
# Jan 05 2001 at 4:41 AM Rating: Default
Not true, and you gave the reason to do this quest in your post. But this is only a good place to camp for one group of players--level 4 shamans. When a young barb shammy hits 4, buy the gate spell then head over to this camp. Hunt from the side (where the goblin banner is) and just keep killing the goblins until your inventory is full or your carrying capacity is reached. Go back to Halas and turn in your ice beads (to Lysbith in the Pit of Doom) and your caster beads (maybe only one or two and almost certainly just the shattered ones) to Shamus. When you hit 5, mem Gate and Gate home, turn in your beads and buy your spells (from hunting at the caster igloos you should have a nice bank account), then talk to Finkus to get a wanted poster (turning in the parchment from Cindl and ink from Gretl), talk to Holana to get the note for the Clover Shipment, talk to the bard to get mail for Qeynos, and talk to Teria to find out about the lion meat shipment. Then head to the barb village in WK, get clover, lion meat, and more mail for Qeynos. Then go to Qeynos, turn in your mail, get your wanted list, and gate back to Halas. Return the lion meat, the clover shipment, and your wanted poster. Then go back to the caster igloos to make more money until you have all your level 5 spells (you can get Sicken from doing the Fungus quest enough times which you should have been working on along with the white bear skin quest during levels 1 to 3--by 4 you should have a full suit of patchwork and hopefully a spear, cracked staff, and worn great staff and build your weapon skills in that order). At 6, head to the BB tunnel and start fighting the guards; when you can best them go into Blackburrow to start your hitch with the train derailment squad.

Always know where you are in the newbie gorge. This entire side of the zone is fairly confusing, so I would make a map at the least, and even better memorize routes of escape. Most of the mobs that come through here are fairly low, however the vengeful solo, lyric, etc tend to make life miserable even nearing the teens.

now this stratagy can be risky and it helps if you are a caster so you can bind out there..but during the busy hours of the day the ice giants at the permafrost gates are well camped by high lvl chars. Go out there and start pulling critters and fighting them and its been my experince that those giant hunters will throw you a buff or two and save your butt in a pinch if needed.. in exchange for a tidbit of conversation (kiting giants can get boring)..add to that the perma zone right there makes this area a nice 10+ hunting area. just make sure when you flee to the zone to stick to the left wall to avoid aggro'n a giant and when you zone into perma DONT move cause often there will be a gob there but if you dont take a step forward he wont notice you

If you stand in the very south end of the river, you can pull ANYTHING and not get agroed by anything else that happens to stroll by. I started soloing mammoth calves there at 12 to 14.
RE: great safe place to hunt
# Dec 18 2000 at 9:43 PM Rating: Default
This strategy is ok but not great. While fighting your prey this is a safe place but the problem is in pulling them there you will still agro other Mammo's and very few people hunt here to help and you are far from any zone. Not to mention there are Ice Boned Skeletons, Orc Shaman and Orc Mounties strolling around ready to attack as soon as they notice you
Vengefuls!
# Aug 23 2000 at 3:17 PM Rating: Good
The vengeful skeletons are the bane of newbies around halas, but very few people realize the *great* exp to be had through killing 'em later on. There are three flavors, the vengeful composer, lowest level, about level 7 or so, vengeful lyricist, about level 9-10, and the vengeful soloist, about level 12.
The odd thing is that they're great *solo* hunting at level 9. Yes, nine. They are all very weak damage-wise, and have very low magic resist. (I've heard that they're level 6 mobs with more hitpoints added to them). At level 9, my shaman was getting a half bubble a kill killing the soloists, solo, and ending up with more than half life and mana still.
BTW, the vengefuls spawn one after another (i.e. kill one, the next pops), and in a random location. Their wanderings almost always take them through the "three igloos" area south (I think) of Halas. So sit there, kill some gnolls for fun, and let the exp roll in :)

A couple of lower-levels (say, around 6) can do these fellas up a treat, especially a tank / shaman combo. Have 'em both tank, making sure the shaman watches the warrior's health. When (if) it gets low, the shaman can pull back and heal his buddy. Frost Rifts also hit for full damage on a consistent basis against these bone-bags.

I wouldn't try soloing these with a shaman until about 8th-9th levels (preferably the latter, as you'll have your 3rd-rank spells then, including SoW, which'll save your hide, if necessary).

I wonder about your vengeful-level-ratings, because I soloed all 3 with my level 7 warrior and only had problems with the soloist. But even this one has nearly been slain by me. I got unconcious and another player who has seen the action came over killed him with only one more hit. You see it was a very close battle.
(Thanks to the one player again for getting me to level 8 with one hit ;)

I'm with you....I've solo'd a composer and a lyricist with my rusty halberd(confiscated from a rusty skeleton)and beaten bouth..although the lyricist gave me one hell of a time (good fight mate) i have also taken on many a gnoll, ork ice troopers. My advice to any...get a halberd (fight ever decaying skeleton u can)use the Cindl quest for free armour(a quest i neglected) to save yourself about 15pp and use u'r tailoring skills; spiderling silk lets u sow for silk bandages(good for bind wound)and u'r ruined pelts can be made into patchwork until u can get armour from cindl, Cindl's quest requires non-ruined or low quality pelts...also once u have reached about lvl 5-6 get 5pp and go to Tundra Jack with a polar bear skin and u will get a polar bear cloak.

RE: Vengefuls!
# Jan 05 2001 at 5:00 AM Rating: Default
Clarifications: Cindl wants the white bear skins (so does Karg Icebear along with 5 plat for him to make the polar bear cloak) and gives you a random piece of patchwork. (Oh the joy when you get the cool bearhead cap!) Everfrost is among the best zones in the game to learn tailoring in. Many tailors will be hunting there looking for quality pelts and would probably be happy to sew you patchwork if you provide the pattern and the pelt (they may not even need you to get them a pelt) especially if you also give them a spiderling silk or two. (Ask them about tailoring and they just might buy you a large sewing kit up in the Halas tunnel.) The vengefuls are always the same level: lyricist is 9, composer is 10, soloist is 11. But they aren't as hard as their levels (warriors can handle them at about 7, shamans around 9, not sure about rogues, probably 7 or 8) yet give great experience (lousy loot though).

I wonder too about the levels. As a level 5 Shaman with only a minor Twink (someone gave me a magic hammer) I soloed a lyricist.

One jumped me and I thought I would give it a try and run if necessary - A kind high level had cast SoW on me and I wasn't far from the Halas zone.

I had all the buffs a shaman can cast on that level on me, a full suit of armour that I had tailored, full hp and mana at the start of the fight.

At the end of the fight I was oom but still 30% hp.

Great exp from a relatively easy solo fight.
Tribunal Initiate Symbol
# Aug 23 2000 at 1:24 PM Rating: Decent
If you start a Shaman in Halas, the first thing you want to do (after finding your guild and memming your spells) is the Tribunal Initiate quest. It yields an incredibly useful item that gives you a stats modifier wis +1, mana +1, ac:3, also the kicker is the Summonable Hammer of Wrath 6/32 which also works as a minor light source!! This one item helped my early leveling tremendously. The run to Qeynos and back is hard, but if you are careful it CAN be done there and back without SoW and without dying, I did it.
Run To Qeynos for Hammer, and get the Guards Drunk!

27 posts
If you get yourself up to level 6 by hunting the goblins, etc, the run to Qeynos will not be tough at all. You will also wind up with a full compliment of backpacks, and loads of beads to turn in for exp to warrior woman. In fact, while there, talk to the warrior at the top of the pit, and tell him:

I WILL DELIVER AN ELIXIR to YOUNG WARRIORS.

He will give you a bottle of booze to take to named guards. First one is right at the gypsy tent, second one is by snowflake, third one is at Blackburrow ramp, and third one is at megan's tower.
HINT: HAIL SNOWFLAKE and ask "where is megan" Snowflake will take you right to Megan. She is the fourth and final person. Each person that takes a sip gets you exp. When you return the empty, you get exp and a crappy random item, but hey, if you are headed that way anyway, get your exp!

Back to Qeynos: Get to level 6 or 7 (you don't need the hammer before then anyway) and head down to blackburrow, get in, get out, run straight out of blackburrow to to the trail to Qeynos, hit NUMBERS LOCK and go get a smoke!
Silk for tailoring
# Aug 23 2000 at 8:11 AM Rating: Decent
Everfrost = silks.
For those that don't know, tailored silk armor is a much demanded item.
This armor requires spider silk as the key starter ingredient. See any good eq site for tailoring recipees.

Also, thanks to recent patch, spiderling silk can be turned into bandages.

Hunt wooly spiderlings, giant wooly spiderlings, and giant wooly spiders to these.
By lvl 11 or 12 you should be able to kill all three types with no problem. For speed, just carry around that sewing kit.
RE: Silk for tailoring
# Aug 28 2000 at 5:38 PM Rating: Excellent

I just arrived in this zone, and being lvl 24 Enchanter, I came for the Icy orcs that are great experience for my group. However, being an enchanter means of course I am at least a modest tailor, and trying to expand that to being a master tailor - so I always have an eyeball out for spiders. Being a much higher level than any of the spiders means that I don't get exp. for them, but I'm too cheap to pay the 1pp per web standard that seems to exist on Xegony.

Anyway, generally I go to West Commons, as there are lots of spiders out there, but there are also a lot of PCs out there, many of which are hunting spiders for exp. - Low and behold, I stumble into this zone, which has tons of spiders, most of who go untouched by the PCs who are generally there for bigger prey. It's a fairly simple matter to slap a lvl 12 Dot on a spider, let it bite at me once to aggro my retarded (but significantly more powerful) lvl 24 animation, and then look for the next spider while my pet slices and dices with minimal damage. I could clear the entire zone fairly quickly of spiders, and not feel like I'm taking away exp. giving opportunities for lower lvl characters.

And best of all, there is a tailor pattern vendor in the zone! Before you zone into Halas, there are three vendors standing around a campfire - you can't miss them - one of them sells sewing kits and patterns. The only drawback I can think of is that barbarians generally don't wear silk armor, so if you want to sell your wares to PCs for a profit, you'll have to truck thru the BB and into Qeynos hills to auction. I personally don't mind taking a loss if I can increase my skill faster, and not having to worry about selling to PCs definitely speeds things up. Or if I see a newbie in the zone that might want it, sometimes I just give it away to try and cheer up the bleeriness of this zone.

Otherwise, I think this will be my home until lvl 30 or so, and maybe beyond. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a tell. (i'm also a master potter and Blacksmith)

good luck!

Great hunting spot:
Lvls 7 - 11: snow leapards, orc troopers, giant wooly spiders.
Lvls 11 - up: wooly mammoth calves and mammas.

A lot of mobs just wander by this spot, very little pull effort required.

I'd recommend not soloing unless you can heal yourself though. Best to have a 2 person group for any mob. One swordarm and one healer/caster type.

Loot varies a lot, but the orc troopers sometimes drop wrist bands that can be turned in to the lady at the leather shop in Halas for a small return.

BTW, this is excellent break from the trains of Blackburrow.
