The Jaggedpine Forest made its debut on July 24, 2002.

It is home to a clan of Darkpaw gnolls, visitors from Qeynos and Surefall, as well as a host of many animals, most of which are very aggressive and sometimes difficult to see in the thicker regions of the forest.

Jaggedpine Sap
# Apr 05 2003 at 4:43 PM Rating: Decent
I was just wondering if anyone has a good use for Jaggedpine Sap. I have foraged several of these, but cannot find any recipes that call for them. I originally thought they might be used in brewing, but have been unsuccessful in discovering a recipe.

Entrance
# Feb 03 2003 at 6:20 PM Rating: Default
Greetings! I have been away from the game for about 5 months now and am recently returned. Jagged Pine used to be my favorite spot to hunt, but I can't seem to find the entrance now. Has it been changed at all? Is there somewhere new you have to click on to enter? Or am I just being unobservant and missing the obvious? :) Any help would be appreciated much. Thank you.

I think most of the Basilisks in the cave near the transporter from Blackburrow would still be dark blue to you, and they're pretty good XP in the mid-thirties, so they might still be for you.

Most of the other stuff in this zone will probably be too high for you, although you should be able to duo bandits in another three or four levels, I think.

Actually, bards can raise their faction with the animals so they won't attack. Also, enchanters can do the same, I believe.
RE: screwed
# Feb 24 2003 at 6:28 AM Rating: Decent
Only way that is effective for Chanters to raise faction is go in wolf illusion. They could align, but have to cast on each animal. All others should bring a wood priest in their party:)...Hire those druids people.

I do well there as a shaman, just stay near the edges to avoid agro, nice exp on the Dryads, got me to 56 as fast as any PoP zone I've tried. And lower lvl 30-45, in the cave have no critter problems.

RE: Faction

I know this is extremely old, but to raise faction, kill the Darkpaw Gnolls that are in the zone.... that or the poachers. Then the critters will love ya ;)
Animal faction & LAG
# Oct 28 2002 at 6:26 AM Rating: Decent
A bard can sing his 11th song " Cinda's Charismatic Carillon " on the animal (wolf or bear) after you enter this zone. Your faction with these animal will become "dubious" and won't be KOS by them.

But the lag is so obvious, my bard can not use his "Chant Kite" tactic smoothly.
I leave this zone immediately after being hit very hard by the Griffon.
Blocked Tunnel
# Oct 04 2002 at 12:36 PM Rating: Good
I was in a group fighting from the blocked tunnel area and we were in wolf form. The bard in our group wiggled himself between the rocks just to see what was back there and ending up in a passageway thru which he zoned back to the port-in spot. Not sure if it's a bug or not, but it does save time running back to town.

You know, I stumbled through here last night... and ended up in Blackburrow, at the teleport. Clicked on the rock, and ended up back at the teleport spot in the caves. Was kind of weird - I thought it was still a blocked tunnel.
No agro
# Sep 26 2002 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
Been hunting here with my 56 druid, mainly hoping the Griffon Eye would drop.
As of yet, after about 20+ hours in the zone, nothing has agroed me. A post here says about griffon aggro... well if your fighting one others will come to its aid if in agro range, but i have found if you move out of its path, it just flys past.
Easy hunting here but most is Lt blue so Xp fairy slim. I Charmed a black panther, which has a lot of HP for its Lv, makes a great pet, shame Tunares request dont take but using Call of Karana you just have to use a Lv 1 snare to be able to recharm.
Was able to take out the poachers quite easy with my pet, even got the no drop mask for my Rogue )
I like it here, but as soon as I get the Eye of thr Griffon I'll have to leave as the XP is just too slow.
RE: No agro
# Oct 20 2002 at 4:25 PM Rating: Good
aggro is related to lvl - higher you get relative to the grif less likely it'll aggro on you. In low 50s aggro disappears, but is a prob till then.

Agro
# Sep 22 2002 at 10:03 AM Rating: Decent
I've had the other animals, even allied, agro on 3 occasions. I finally figured out its due to Archery misses (I think). If you are Bow Kiting and another animal or wisp or such walks by between you and your target there is a chance you are going to hit it. Check it out I bet you'll see thats whats going on.

Although the zone is kinda buggy. Every griff and snake cons indifferent normally, but on rare occasion you can con one that will be scowling. Why? I have no idea.
RE: Agro
# Aug 27 2003 at 4:34 PM Rating: Decent
About the occasioanlly scowling snakes...
The snakes occasionally have bad hair days.
I've seen it, they come out of their holes sometimes wearing litte hats made of an acorn shell.
RE: Agro
# Jul 06 2003 at 10:41 AM Rating: Default
Tell me about it. This zone SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mobs spawn on top of you, unless you're a druid EVERY animal MAY aggro on you regardless of how the /con.

I say MAY because I've walked right past the little buggers and they've left me alone, but God forbid I'm hunting gnolls or something, then a panther or a bear will attack me. Griffs path in a way that garauntees that they'll add to each other.

Oh, and ***** the QRG Protected Animals faction crap. I've used the ONLY QUEST to increase factoin, and while I've gone from apprehensive to amiable with the Treefolk, the little 4-legged maggots of Jaggedpine still /con threatening.

I'm normally a very peaceful Erudite wizard, seeking knowledge and exploration only, but I SWEAR when I hit at least level 60 I'm going to wipe out every animal in this zone.
Griffon/Griffawn Aggro
# Sep 18 2002 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
I've noticed that occassionally, a griffon (not GrifFAWN) will aggro on me while in wolf form. More often than not, this has happened while I was fighting another griffon. Griffawns have never aggroed on me, then again I always stay in wolf form.

Griffawns are much lower lvl than griffons Even if u get scowls, they aren't that stupid they won't attack as with most mobs unless u are sitting, that tends to attract attention. Also when u are fighting a mob others will often join in, this also is is consistant with most mobs throughout norrath.
Getting out?
# Sep 14 2002 at 10:30 AM Rating: Decent
I've looked at these posts and they do contain some useful information. However they do not contain the piece I seek: How does one get OUT of the zone once in? Verant has created several one-way zones where the zone exit is far removed from the entrance. Is this one of those? I ain't about to set my tender monk-y (i.e. no Gating) feet in here without knowing I can safely leave.
Also have to comment that Saran's map, provided here at Alla, while kinda helpful is a great deal less than useful without a legend explaining what the numbers mean...

Another passage in and out of the zone, and my preferred one, is via Blackburrow. The Brell Serilis Gnoll caves are accesses through a tunnel in the west wall of the zone. There is a gem-clicker in here ( bear right when comong in from Jaggedpine) and it will teleport you onto the lower level of Blackburrow.
The Brell Gnolls also feature several quests as well as vendors and a banker.

If you're able to come in through the Surefall Glade entrance by clicking on the gem, you will find yourself near the little town next to a little hill with a gem. Click that gem to get out.

Darkpaw Gnoll Caves
# Aug 27 2002 at 2:47 PM Rating: Excellent
Well, having spent a good bit of time so far playing down in the gnoll caves in Jaggedpine, I have a semi-complete map of the cave system. There are 2 types of gnolls in JP, Darkpaw gnolls seem to be for killing, while Brell gnolls seem to be for questing with. Darkpaw gnolls drop up to 7 plat in change, Poorly Balanced weapons that sell for 4-5 plat, Saberpaw armor (vendor bait) worth 70-100 pp, some other items sell for 33 plat, and then there are the nice mid-level drops. Masterlooting is the way to go here, after about 3 hrs in the caves, you'll have between 300 and 600 plat to split among the party (plus there are merchants and a bank in the zone). Gnolls are good experience for level 45-55 (takes me anywhere from 2-4 hrs to fill in a yellow of AA experience if I put 90 pct into AA).
The cave system is rather complex (around 10 small chambers with 1-4 spawns, 3 large chambers with 10-30 spawns, plus wandering gnolls), so you'll want to either take along someone to port you out at the end, or keep a detailed map of how you get to where you end up. There are places in the cave system where you can duo (or even carefully solo), while other places have so many wanderers pathing through that an enchanter is essential. Respawns are 12 minutes, so action can be fast if you're not careful where you chose to fight. Most of the time, you'll want to fight either in the tunnel just before the next chamber (if you're 'crawling'), or move from spawn point to spawn point in the larger caverns.

Kinda named the caverns now... there are a few different spots that are good camps here:

"northwest" - if you go in and make all lefts, this is a dead-end cavern up around +3400, +1300 (only a handful of static spawns here).

"entrance" - the obvious at +2500, +650

"middle" - a mid-sized cavern (go north from entrance, then northeast at 2nd chamber) at +2800, +600, good spot for a lower group (or not-full group).

"named" - this is the big V/Y shaped cavern where the named gnoll spawns (in the northwest corner), fastest route is to go north from entrance 2 chambers (to +3000,+1100), then east once, then north (entrance to named cavern is +3270,+830, but there's also a east entrance at +3480,+220). This is a great place to have the shammy pull with slow, and root-park the mobs for killing. Will probably support 2 power groups.

"dead-end" - a L-shaped chamber in the northeast portion with a dead-end tunnel at the south end (this is where the "trap" drops you). Fastest route is to go northeast from entrance chamber, then east and fall down the trap (at around +2700,-275). Good spot to solo-duo, downside is it's a long trip out if you don't bring a porter to succor/evac. This is the 2nd largest cavern, and can support a solo-duo group in the lower (southern end) as well as a full gruop at the upper tunnel (exit).

a few other, not-so-prime spots...

"named annex" - this is the tiny cavern with 4 spawns east of named (+3500, +75), you can pull from named cavern, or the tunnels.

"busy T" - this is the cavern halfway between "northwest" and "entrance", 3-4 spawns, plus numerous roamers is sure to keep your party busy (have a crowd-control plan as you'll get up to 5 at a time). Location is +3000,+1100.

Would a WAR of the 37th season be useful in this zone. It sounds like a fun zone, with decent loot and great exp just a little worried I am on the low side for hunting there.
Transporter to Jagged Pine from Black Burrow

My recent scouting trip into Black Burrow was worrisome. The gnolls are busy at work burrowing into their lair. New passageways lead down into the earth and I fear that the reports that they are desperately trying to build a tunnel that connects with the Jaggedpine are correct.

I was able to locate a tranporter within the new tunnels (loc 152, 174, -155). I fear that they are using it to move forces rapidly back and forth with their den in the Jaggedpine.

All those that love the hills of Jaggedpine and the glens of Surefall should return home if you are above the 35th rank. We will need your help to hold off the minions of evil as they attempt to overrun Jaggedpine, Surefall, and the hills of Qeynos.

A quick way to the portal is to jump off the wooden bridge that leads to the "elite" ledge and then look for an underwater tunnel. Swim through it and you should see an area above water with several barrels. The transporter is tucked up in the corner to the right.

I have sent this message back with a young adventurer I saw near the entrance from the Qeynos Hills. After I rest, I will attempt to use the transporter. May Tunare watch over me. I hope I am not transported into the midst of a pack of very surprised and angry gnolls!!

If you are a druid, most everything is indifferent or better. Timber griffawns and griffons are indifferent when in wolf form. Makes killing them easy. Killed wisps and griffons so far - no problem. They are dark blue to me and nothing aggros. I never killed a treant and never will.

yeah it is all the way at the bottom level behind the razorgill pool - of course the old place looks so different with the new graphics I can't give you a good route to get there...
Wisps
# Jul 31 2002 at 8:35 PM Rating: Decent
Wisps here are predicatable, don't have faction hits, and drop a GLS each time. Alternating between wisps and grifs is steady predictable exp in mid 40s. My wisp approch is to mele first, to maybe 1/2 health, then to shift to more root and shoot as they seem to hit harder as their hp goes down.

I have plenty of ram, but integrated video.
Is that why? Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Have a little lag, but not near as bad as the Kitty City. Figure they put a little more textures and graphic in since it is new (like the Luclin zones.)

I have a Voodoo 5 (Supposed to be 64mb, but I think it is not at full capacity).
