Since the /trader creation within the Bazaar, I've been under the apparent misunderstanding that we could have a char trader and char player at the same time. Can anyone verify this for fact once and for all or tell me how this is done. Is the only way to do this indeed by what I consider to be multiplaying (multiple accts) ?
I thought that one of the good things about the Bazaar was to be able to have both trader and player at the same time? Thanks!
Items with effects / damage bonuses

Hello all,

I have enjoyed trading in the Bazaar, trade can be slow but it is always profitable and there are lots of nice items for sale to drool over.

However, fellow traders are not always the most talkative ... being A.F.K. is probably the most frequently heard response! So I have come here to ask some questions about items with effects and damage bonuses:

Question 1: When an item has a focus effect what does this mean? How is this different to a worn or triggered effect (which I do understand).

Question 2: When a weapon has a DMG bonus how is this calculated? (Surely it cannot be as simple as adding the bonus to the normal DMG otherwise you would get some crazily good ratios.)

Question 3: What is bane damage? I have heard this referred to but don't know what it is.

I would be most grateful for your responses,

Archibald

You asked some good questions, and frankly the first one stumped me as well.

But From Question 2: DMG bonus is calculated by you're lvl and the type of weapon you are using. I.E. a lvl 60 with a 2-hander will have a higher bonus than a lvl 1 with that same 2-hander.
also a 2-hander will have a slightly higher bonus than a 1-hander given the char is the same lvl.

For Question 3: Bane dmg is used to add dmg against a certain enemy. I.E. a sword with stats 10dmg dly 22 with bane dmg +2 vs. gnolls would be seen as a 12dmg dly22 weapon (but only against gnolls).

At least this is what I've found from my exp.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say that now that things have changed in the Bazaar (with people now becoming Trader's) its getting really annoying. So much Freaking lagg...I never used to have so much lag. Not even with Guild raids that require more then 80 people of all race/classes. The point im trying to make is that The Bazaar used to be a cool area where you could go and bank..check out horses..But now..well..you can see for yourself.
1) I have no Idea why Verant Decided to use the Bazaar as another /auction spot. EC was never that bad..sure the /auction was spamming my chat screen but I didnt care much. With 300+ people trying to sell items I think you get a bit of lagg.. Now there is no one is EC..They should have it so that only 150 or 100 traders can be in the Bazaar..The rest..Go to EC!! but EC shouldnt be able to have the /Trader thing..only Bazaar..anyway on to my next point

2) Now that you can automatically sell your items without having to actually be there (/Trader and then go /AFK for 5 hours or so) and having a set amount of moeny on your itms; people can no longer bargin for items. I know a lot of hagglers out there. Im one of them! I used to be able to trade items for a few hundered plat and some decent wep. and all was happy..Now I have to make sure I have the exact amount of moeny which brings me to something else

3) Im not big on selling items (seeing as how I either used to trade them or give to those in need) so Im now stuck with farily good items in the bank. Taking up Space. I try to at least sell them but no one seems to need them at this time. and Im not to big on waiting around for someone to come and buy it. I would much rather spend my hours hunting gaining exp. and hanging out with friends.

anyway the point Im trying to make is that Bazaar is changed. And I doubt that Verant is going to do anything about that. But I have never experienced so much lag in a zone before. and i have a good computer btw. And even with the char models off..there is still no hope..Like I said..they should only allow a certain amount of people in that zone to become a /trader. The rest should go back to EC and sell..but have to be there..so that us hagglers can get to em. And I think I speak for some people when I say I would much rather hunt then sit and sell. Thank you for your time all.

That was always fun to haggle the prices lower or try to get them to take a trade. I know I would go to EC again if I could do that.

Several points to be made about the Bazaar, having spent some time as a trader and shopper...

* Lag in Bazaar is a non-issue for me. Sure, it is annoying, but not nearly as frustrating as the lag encountered in EC when you are a newbie trying to hunt (forget trying to time your casting on a Saturday night when everyone wants to sell), or even something simple like banking in NFP (for those who play on servers like M. Marr where the market was in the city). Now, EC is actually a pleasant place to hunt, and I can work on tradeskills in NFP without going LD.

* When trading, I go afk to avoid beggars, but I am usually still there, as I also use this time to shop. There is still room for haggling, at least during peak hours there seems to be as much spamming as before, so there are still people who hang out to sell their items.

* For those who do not like to haggle (or beg, depending on your veiwpoint), and with limited funds, the Bazaar is a great place to find stuff because it is all laid out for everyone to see at once... no need to haggle because eventually you will find what you want, and usually for less than you were willing to pay. The market works itself out in that the things that are reasonably priced (or in high demand) will sell quickly, while those who insist on charging 100pp for a fine steel dagger will be sitting there a while longer...

On some servers, the trading has spilled over into the Nexus area, where the traditional means of bartering still exists. From a buyer's standpoint the new setup is great, but I can see where the hardcore traders and sellers might lose out from the lack of direct interaction that was a part of the old system.

I just went to the bazaar for the first time today, and yes I got a heck of a lot of lag. I still think the Bazaar is much better than hundreds of people spamming every channel in EC trying to sell their stuff. Remember this was the point of the Bazaar from the very beginning, it just took them longer to get it fully implemented than they originally planned. The Bazaar was always meant to be a place for PCs to sell their goods.

As someone who has started a new character recently based in Freeport and is spending most of my time in EC working on newbie armor quests, I'm overjoyed that all the spam has moved elsewhere. If you really don't want to have to deal with the lag and spam, don't go to the Bazaar. That's an option that was never really viable when EC was the auction spot.

I think that the first post, in my opinion is wrong. The Bazaar, I beleive is the greatest zone add on to date, it mostly succeeded in stopping spam, and it benefits the buyers and sellers, some people say that it is definately not a seller's market, but, then again, where IS a place where there is a seller's market, the sellers dont have to sit there and repeat there auctions, they can just set up and go away, the buyers get the best deals on items, I've seen a wurmmy go for 500pp, just to compete with other prices...
I think the bazaar is great...Very good addition to the game.
Summoned, Lore, No Rent ???

Hello all,

I recently spent some hours in the Bazaar (my first visit) and felt rather ignorant after having viewed endless items with all sorts of attributes. All of this looking (not much buying going on - I felt a bit poor!) made me question what some of the seemingly most basic terms actually meant. Can anyone tell me what it means if an item is LORE? What about NO RENT? What about SUMMONED? Does it matter if you buy an item that says Recommended level xx if xx is a lot higher than your current level? These will do for starters.

Confused

I wandered around totally ignorant of these terms for the first few months or so that I played EQ.

LORE --
  • Verant only wants you to possess ONE of the item, whether in inventory (on your person) or in the bank.
  • Verant wants you to work a little harder on a quest by misnaming an item, naming multiple quest items identically, or otherwise hiding some useful information about an item so that it can only be discovered using the Identify spell, effectively restricting completion of the quest to those players at a level high enough to cast Identify themselves (20 for NEC, 16 for ENC, WIZ, MAG) or who can obtain the services of another player who is.

  • NO RENT --
  • Verant doesn't want you to keep these cheap and easily obtainable, usually summoned, items in your inventory from one gaming session to another, which means the item will poof out of your inventory slot, bag, or bank vault after you have logged out of the game. If you go LD, you're supposed to have up to about 30 minutes to log back in before the item disappears forever, including normal items within it if it's a container.
  • Verant wants you to work a little harder on a quest by involving NO RENT components, effectively restricting a player to completing any portion of the quest after obtaining that item to the current playing session. Otherwise, the player must reacquire that NO RENT item to continue with the quest in a separate playing session.

  • Summoned --
  • Verant knows that it's a pain in the behind to find an NPC merchant selling food, water, and bandages in LOIO, etc., so a lot of magic-using classes can create such items out of thin air with the appropriate spells.
  • Verant was being nice, but not THAT nice, so summoned items are NO RENT.
  • Some Magician-summoned NO RENT gear is pretty cool and kick butt for players and/or pets, so keep a slot open for a Mage in your /friends list. Smiley: smile

  • Recommended Level: --
  • Verant can't stop all the (real or imagined) horrors of equipment abuses, "twinking," or whatever, but they can make it where nobody under a certain, perhaps arbitrary, level can equip an item.
  • None of my characters currently possess any such gear, so someone else may know whether this is a concrete rule, what exceptions are known, etc.

  • Hope this helps.

    Quoting a little from above...

    Recommended Level: --
This means that if the item has a recommended level of say 50..and you are level 49, you can usually still wear / use this item with the following exceptions. The item's stats will not give you all of what they are. Say it's a BP with an AC of 51. At level 49 you should show the AC you are getting and the AC you would get if you were 50. It usually looks like this: AC (49) 51. 49 being the AC you are getting, while 51 being the AC you would get if you were level 50.

It also means the level required to actually use the effect of an item...usually...heh

Hope that helps clear up a little bit for ya.

    # May 29 2003 at 7:58 AM Rating: Decent
I believe that bags of Platinum are an under-utilized way of reducing the weight of money. I believe that a large bag of Platinum which sells for X (say 100,000 plat) Probably weighs less than 100,000 Platinum. I've no verification on this and never having seen that kind of cash, I'll have to take the word of another.
    RE: Bag of Plat??
    # May 29 2003 at 10:10 AM Rating: Good
Actually, the bags of plat are what you get when you turn in an old horse bridle, or a lizard drum. Since these items are NO DROP, they can't actually be sold, so they set it up with a "turn-in quest" where you turn in the item to one of the stablehands and they give you the bag of plat. Then you can sell the bag of plat to any merchant for part of the price you paid for your horse.

The only use I have found for my horse (since it is too clumsy to fight on, has a hard time walking up hills, starts off slow, and couldn't stop on a dime if your life depended on it), as a PALADIN is getting on the horse in an outdoor zone while I helm heal with my Deepwater Helm. You can gain up to a bubble to a bubble and a half of mana helm healing yourself, surely beating the no (well teeeeeeeeeny bit of) mana regen of helm healing when not on the horse... so if you are a pally, this serves as some purpose... but it probably wasn't worth the money.

For those with limited cash who want to upgrade their armor and weapons, this is a good place to do it. Lots of higher level peeps unloading their inventory when they acquire new Luclin items means that there are some nice items available from vendors in this zone. Even some of the new items (centi weapons, netherbian chitin BPs) may find their way to the vendors, but I'm even happy to find the occasional spore covered or coterie armor piece for my lowbie characters.

Best time to go is soon after a patch, when they have cleared out the vendor inventories. Give it a day or two for some new stock to develop, and you can usually find a nice item or two (just bought a netherbian unguis for 2pp, and centi warspear for 7pp today). After a week or two, the good items have usually been picked through, and vendors are full of runes and overpriced brigandine armor (also notice a lot of 'giant' items -- leg choppers, tree flayers, etc.).

It is also possible to 'unlock' some items that do not initially show up in the inventory by buying some of the cheaper items (meat, pelts, etc.) to free up subsequent inventory spaces -- but I usually only do this if I am using those items as well (not much spare copper to spend frivolously here).

If you are under level 20, and have limited funds, this is the place to upgrade from patchwork armor and newbie weapons.

One of the best things about this zone is the 10-slot bags that are available and cheap. When you zone in from The Nexus, go past the bank (the nearest building in front and to the left of you) and make a left into the next building. The vendor who has them is on the right, nearest the door. He conned indifferent to my Barbarian Shaman (with only 76 charisma) and sold him one ("Trader's Satchel" they're called, I think) for under 2 plat. They weigh a stunningly heavy 25, but they're great for extra slots in the bank, which is next door to this merchant's hangout. It's a great deal for those who, like me, have nearly-full bank inventories.
    That bag...

Will be used in the /bazaar and /trader interface. Basically whatever you have in that 10 slot bag that weights 25 stones is what people can "browse" to buy.

You could also go to Iceclad, and get a Deluxe Toolbox from one of the gnomes at the camp. I believe they are under 2pp as well, but they only weigh 3.5 (10slot giant as well). Still working on filling my bank and inventory with them. ;)

Different horses have different stats. Anybody know a site that discusses them?

I bought a black leather bridle for 31,500pp. This results in a small black horse (I'm a dwarf) that runs at SoW speed. I timed this by running with a lv 40 druid. The acceleration is poor - usually takes about four or five steps before it breaks into a gallop - and the brakes are lousy. (I found this out by running off a cliff, screaming "Whoah!" the whole way down.) It does corner well - so instead of trying to brake now I just walk in circles until it stops.

An unexpected advantage is that it seems to give me safe fall. The minor falls that would give 5 to 100pts damage don't occur. As my cliff experiment proved, you can still fall to your death, however.

Horses don't swim - if you go underwater the horse evaporates and has to be re-summoned.

I can't meditate while on horseback. And contrary to the previous post, I do not regain mana at a faster rate while riding.

The best thing about the horse is the sound effects and graphic while in first person view make me feel like I am really on a horse. Travel is much more exhilirating than on my feet.

I wonder if more expensive horses will have different extra effects? Post your experiences here. :)

"I can't meditate while on horseback. And contrary to the previous post, I do not regain mana at a faster rate while riding."

The meditation while riding thing was.... accidental. Well, perhaps. It has been suggested it was added to encourage higher level players to buy the Shadows of Luclin expansion, but never intended to remain a permanet feature. *Shrug*

Either way, it was 'nerfed' a while back now. If you go and take a look at the Developer's corner forum at the official website, I'm pretty sure the post confirming this is still there.

Sadly, I can't afford a horse, so I can't offer any other real information. Having said which, my understanding is that the more expensive horses are just a little faster. (I'm told the most expensive one is as fast as Feet of the Cheetah, which is apparently a fair bit more than Sprit of the Wolf.)

Hope this clarifies the meditation thing, at least.

From what i have heard, while you are sitting on them, you count as medditating. So, you can be galloping around doing whatever, and still be regening your mana at a decent rate.
Gotta be good if your lom and are running/kiting a mob around the zone, just keep away from it for a min or so, and you'll have enough mana for that nuke/snare/root/gate.
I hope it's true, because then every caster will be dying to get one, even the cheap one.

But, when they do this will be a great place for people to sell that extra item they did not have time to sell before.
