Nektulos Forest

Located in the northeastern portion of Antonica, this thick forest serves as the Dark Elven gateway to Norrath. Dark Elven guards and dragoons roam the high-traffic paths in what seems to be a futile attempt to keep it clean of trouble.

A group of halfling druids, agressive to their dark elven counterparts, have developed a few encampments here. Their reasons are unknown; perhaps they wish to one day take over Neriak. Also established in this forest is the Deathfist Clan, as they slowly make their way northward from the Commonlands.

A stream juts through the forest and leads to the newly discovered Depths of Darkhollow, the final resting place of gnomish Expedition 328. Corathus Creep, the fungus-ridden area beneath Nektulos can be reached through the western edge of the water.

Over the years, the forest greenery has been worn down, forming a pathway running north to south. At the southern tip are the Commonlands while at the north end is a mountain passage to Lavastorm.

Updated, thanks.

Judging by the faction changes on the old documented halflings in Nektulos and these new ones, I would say they were added when Nektulos 3.0 went live and no one had submitted about them before you. At the very least, they were added at some point with the same "modern" factions.

Yesterday's Media Box seems to indicate that Nektulos 3.0 is live on the Antonius Bayle server. Is that correct? I despised the current version from day 1, but would like to see the new version before my subscription runs out. Does anyone know when it will be rolled out to all servers?

Fairy Mission
# Oct 10 2005 at 10:10 AM Rating: Decent
I will now relay to you a wonderful strategy for the Fairy Mission. Using this strategy, you need not worry about the inevitable 2-3 people in group who constantly die and don't know how to hide. You will win in about 17-20 minutes with no deaths.

The most important thing is that everyone stays together.

1. The whole group heads to the cave to kill the chest. Don't worry about hiding from the lamp posts, just keep running (and jumping) when you get agro. They are tethered, so you will lose ago.

2. When you get to the chest and still have agro, run high up as you can on the wall behind the chest until you lose agro. The mobs will tether back to their spawn point.

3. Kill the chest, running up on wall any time you get agro.

4. Five people move to the mouth of the cave and hide. If they have agro, they should lose it at the cave entrance. However, don't walk onto the grass.

5. The person who waited at the box should loot the dust after everyone is in position, then head to the cave mouth.

6. Everyone dots the cave shrine, then hide again, and med. Remain in the cave mouth. Six dots will be enough to kill the shrine.

7. When the shrine hits 50%, the first grave robber will spawn. You wait for him and kill him inside the cave. Everyone dot him, you can take him out quickly.

8. Run (as a group) to the north shrine, and run all the way behind the shrine. You will lose agro from all but one rat. Kill this rat before you dot the shrine. After rat is dead, dot the shrine, hide, and med.

9. At 50%, the grave robber will spawn and wander to you. You kill him.

10. Run to the entrance of zone. You might have no agro when you get there, but if you still have one agro, go ahead and kill the rat.

11. DoT the last shrine from as far away as possible. The dot spell has incredible range. Everyone dot it, hide, med, and when it gets to about 60% 2-3 people dot it again.

12. Everyone just hide at the zone in, and you will be home free. Make sure you all see the exp message before zoning out.

Remember that if the grave robber wanders near the last shrine, do not dot the shrine. That will agro the GR, and if he kills someone with an active dot, you will not get any exp.

This strategy is awesome. All praise to Onyca from Quellious server for showing it to me.

# Jun 26 2006 at 2:13 PM Rating: Decent
Now more than one graverobber spawns (or did for my grp) so once u DoT shrine 7 times (6 times does
not kill shrine(s) one person must dot it 3 times.
After everyone dots 2 or 3 timesrun by ZL or in just before where the robbers go, med and hide there. (Hide usaully works sometimes it doesn't)
Also about the cave mouth, must people run 2 ZL and looter hides. I know every Fairy mission post here but mine is from '05 but since i was here almost every day when it was a popular mission, i thought i would post something i used a lot (I have seen some pretttty bad tries at this mission.

With the last patch they changed some things. The critters are no longer teathered. You can still lose aggro by going up the wall at the chest but the rest have to be killed. Stay as one group and kill your way to each shrine. you can still get everyone to the first shrine and loot the dust but that is about it. Oh and the Graverobbers now see through the hide so that is not an option. Kill them and have fun

As of 12/19/05 the Graverobbers don't always see invis. I completed 2 Fairy mm today and non of the Graverobbers I encountered saw through invis. The shrines definately have more hp's since before the nerf/fix of the Fairy mm.

Orc Monster Mission
# Sep 16 2005 at 6:55 AM Rating: Decent
This is an escort quest. You take the form on Orcs and fight through a rival tribe of orcs to rescue and escort a DE to safety. Fairly simple. First make sure you have 3 warriors (brutes) 2 wizzies (arcanist) and one healer. As soon as you zone in set up your AAs. Make sure you save these options if you want to use them again as it takes up some time and you dont want to have to do it everytime. Ok everyone GTG? Send one of your warriors straight forward and veer right from the zone in. Have him run to the DE to complete the first part of the task. He will die and respawn with you guys at the zone in. When I did this there was no penalty for death. (patching it now, so we will see) Now move your group towards the same way. There is a treasure chest that you need to loot a key from. The mobs here are not hard and can be pulled one at a time. The cleric has a pax called grim submission. Also, make sure the wizzards cast mind race on themselves and the healer. Once you have looted the key make your way to the DE. After you kill all the mobs surrounding him, med to full. When everyone is rdy turn in key. He will start walking and two orcs begin to come into the cave at the entrance. Warriors get a bellow so make sure you use it to get aggro and keep it off of your charge. He makes a few pit stops but for the most part just kill anything that aggros near you. If you can pax some of the mobs ahead this will make it easier because by the time you are coming back through the camp with the DE there are re-pops.

# Sep 12 2005 at 11:11 PM Rating: Decent
Just a random thought, with no names to go with since I am terrible with names,
The story line mentions someone going to the queen for a sacrifice for some sort of curse, the queen then had a meeting with her husband and poisoned/knocked him out and pulled him through a portal, at which point the other was there to greet her and recieve her choosen sacrifice...
Soooo is the king possesed or ???

Sorry its late and im bored hehe
No idea about King Thex being in Nektulos.
# Aug 19 2005 at 6:36 PM Rating: Decent
What I do know, however, is that King Thex hates everyone except for the fighting Dark Elf classes. The casters usually come out of Neriak with at least a 'Your faction can get no worse with Thex', hah, so if you've been doing a lot of wine and fire beetle eye quests, watch out for the d00d. He'd pwn you.

I'm a newbie darkelf shadowknight and was wondering if this zone is always quiet? Every time I come online its always empty. So I'm just Wondering if its just my server or are there no more newbies to play with? I'm on Luclin. Even our city of Neriak is pretty empty. The most people that I've ever seen here are like 5 or 6 but that doesn't last long then I'm the only one in the zone.

Well, first thing is take the POK book close to you to POK and get buffed up as much as possible, then I would just take the freeport book and start killing stuff in Northern Dessert of Ro( need to go through the tunnel ) or just kill stuff in East commonlands. Grab a pet in POK, have someone buff it before you fight, then you can inviso and not lose your pet. Try to get a coldain veliuum dagger or 1H staff ( they process 12 dmg Velium shards spell at level 1 , during combat )NOT a Velium dagger... a coldain velium dagger... Then pull with your tash spell, get hit, step BACK, let pet engage, cast fear, and you and the pet chase the mob and start wacking away. Give your pet a nice weapon and have him buffed as much as possible. Have a higher level enchanter at POK give him swift like the wind, trade buffs with people. Shiny Bob is LIFE in the early stages. Give him a velium weapon like a rapier and have him attack willowisps . Learn the pathing of mobs for fear kiting.

Anyone know what the purpose of Bulgulg is? hes an ogre at the bridge in Nek. I cannot fing him in the beastiary.

When hailed he says "Hello dere. You showed up here too, huh? The shamen of war sent me here to help all dat hab da swampstone. If you gimme your stone I will cast a small prayer of Rallos on it. It will then take you closer to home."

So, my question being what swampstone, from where and what is the result. it looks like a possible gate type quest. I am Rallos Zek, and a war. any type of gate item even if expendilble would be highly useful to me.

If anyone has any idea as to what the components, reward and so on are to this quest plz reply.

It does sound like a gate spell of sorts or maybe just one to get trollie from the Nek bridge to the doorsteps of Neriak.

I haven't found much reference to obtaining the swampstone yet. Could be when Grobb was overrun by them glurpy frogloks.

Simple answer is: you can't. They're a rare spawn, but they do spawn near the orc camps and you can get the scalps eventually. Luckily they're tradable so you may find them for sale or find another player in a different class who has one they don't need.

Cracked staffs are always a good deal: skellies often carry them and they sell for 9gps each. Wolves now also drop coyote skulls fairly often, which sell for around 1pp.
Shadowman Pet or not?

I was on my way to EC and it was pretty dark. I was invis along the way cuz I wasnt in the mood for PK and around the EC ent behind a tree there was a skellie and a shadowman pet. This was the first and only time I have seen something shadowman reletated and there was no shadowman around. Anyways I stopped and took a quick look and the pet look like a Enchanter. Would this have been a glitch bcuz I dont think there are shadowman chanters lol

In case you didn't know, Enchanters pets are shadowed men. And of course sks and necros pets are skeletons. Maybe there was a enchie haning out with a sk or nerco nearby and they left thier pets there.

My Experience with Lavastorm Guard
# Jul 22 2002 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
I camped the Lavastorm guard yesterday morning (Level 18 Ranger, lightly tweaked). I killed him 17 times (I know based on the number of bronze long swords I had) without a death. The level of this guard appeared to vary between 15-17. The dangerous cons were sometimes difficult, but he did seem to turn and run early.

He seemed to resist about half of my spells (root and snare) and hits pretty fast. The experience was poor for me (about 1/2 a yellow bubble an hour) and I was killing him as soon as he popped.

My unscientific opinion on who should solo him would be rangers and pet-using spell casters. I think straight casters would have occassional difficulty getting spells off if he resisted root. Although I think reasonably-equipped warriors and monks could take him, I think that there would be too much wait to get fully-healed.

My strategy was to snare (resisted less than root) and then root, pull back and fill him full of arrows, then go toe-to-toe. This did a good job of raising my archery skill as well.

BTW, 17 bronze long swords in your packs weigh quite a bit, and makes for a long trip back to EC or Freeport (about 20 minutes) :-) Additionally, my AC dropped 36 points as my weight increased.

In short, this was fun for awhile, but not worth the time as I can make this much money soloing in Oasis and get about twice the experience. A pair of level 14 or 15's might do okay, but I can't say for sure.

Lavastorm Guard
# May 15 2002 at 7:56 AM Rating: Decent
I just wanted to post my strategy for killing DE guards. I have worked on this one alot and found like the previous poster that the lavastorm guard is the best to camp. I tag team kite this guard. I am a lvl 15 shaman and I partner with a lvl 14 druid. We prepare by buffing out (nice but not necessary) and SoWing (very necessary). I pull with spirit strike which gets me pretty high up on the hate list, and then I run in circles avoiding the guard. Meanwhile the Druid snares and once snare is in place proceeds to ignite like there is no tomorrow. Eventually this taunts the guard onto the druid, so he starts running in circles avoiding the guard and I spirit strike until he is either dead or bounces back to me. With this strategy we can kill yellow cons without losing any life and have maybe one or two bubs of mana left. Note of caution, I tried rooting and debuffing before I tried this tag team kiting and it wasn't worth it, he resists a ton and when the root does take hold he breaks it pretty easily. The loot is ridiculously good for this level and the experience is not that bad. Good hunting all.
