Some Zelniaks agro

Beware, there are zelniaks that are social - nasty and tenacious zelniaks for sure and I would not be surprised if the crazed, frenzied, etc did as well. A tenacious zelniak agroed on me from quite a distance as my pet was finishing off a large zelniak. This was in the area along the "road" from NL to SS just south of the Dwarf Paladin camp where a lot of large zelniaks spawn. I find it interesting it went straight for me and not for my pet. As I was lom, I outlegged it to Sanctus Seru on a SoW.

Hunting Lightcrawler Armour
# Sep 24 2002 at 6:47 PM Rating: Decent
Having spent some time doing this,I thought I would share what I found from killing a lot of the creepie crawlies :=)
Nearly all the LC's that dropped the armour quest components were loners that I found at the the north and and south ends of the valley at the centre of the zone and runs north-south.I found a relatively big LC spawnpoint at c.pos 200,pos 50 but none dropped any shells or legs.Niether did the LC's that regularly pop in the S.E. corner of the zone.If they blinded me it only lasted around 10 seconds and wasn't a problem.Just keep an eye open for adds as they mob quickly if nearby.
Hope this is helpful.

Great for rangers!
# Aug 26 2002 at 2:42 PM Rating: Good
This zone has alot of possibilities for any class, but Rangers, and druids will have an easier time of it.

The zels don't add or aggro, the wolves don't aggro my wood elf ranger, but sometimes add, the lightcrawlers are a pain, since they aggro anything, but now are green, so more of an annoyance.

I've moved from a lvl30 ranger, to 41 in this zone. Beats any other zone for fear kites. Nice and open, and all I gotta do is med a little now and then. I rarely loose more than the top of a bulb of hp on the large zels.

I typically work the Large and named Zelniaks solo in here, usually in the areas between Sanctus Seru, and Netherbian Zones. Straight out from the NL zone, is a small hill, and like a valley, where many large zelniaks spawn, and often. I can clear the area, med, and start over.

My recomendation to a Ranger in this zone, do not group with peeps. Fear kiting is safer for you, and much better exp. The only times I die are with groups, go figure....

If you're a ranger, and want to level fast, get to Dawn Shroud. It's a Ranger's paradise!

Rangers and Druids arent the only critter-loved animals, even though my troll would rather eat wolves than let em be, i'll make an exception when they can beat me up

Lately, I've been getting many requests as I shout "I'm LFG", lotsa ppl say "Come to ME" "Come to hopper caves" but a really frequent 1 is "Come to Shroom house". I dont wanna take risks on going to ME, Hopper caves, I might in 2 lvls, but when I ask for directions, they say it's near SS. Looking on a map, there are no huts "Near" SS. However, there is 1 encampment in the NW, of 3 tents. I was wondering, is this the "Shroom House"?

The "shroom house" is a large stone structure in the SW corner of Dawnshroud, next to the lake south of Sanctus Seru zone.
Ancient Zelniak
# Aug 15 2002 at 12:27 PM Rating: Decent
Was hunting in Dawnstroud for the first time. I had spent the last 8 levels in EW. I like this zone better, nothing has bothered me while hunting except for a few lightcrawlers, which are green to me. Snared the Ancient Zelniak then cast panic animal on him and mowed him down while he mooed like a scared cow. Dropped Ancient fossil, no idea what it is.

Runed Statues in DS

Heya,

I was wondering if anyone had found any use for the Runed Statues that exist in the Cracked building in Dawnshroud Peaks. The building is crawling with Mushrooms but what I found interesting were the Egg shaped structures with glowing red runes on them.

I invised myself and did some drawings of the runes and I also found the runes are only a projection. You can walk inside them and even sit down in the bowl like depression that they appear to rest in. I thought that maybe you either healed or medded faster in these areas but was not sure.

If anyone knows for sure what these things are for or if they are just scenery let us know, grin.

Does anyone know what the deal was when my friend and I were hunting mobs and such in DS and since most wolves here are agressive to us, I shot my arrow, the wolf came running and then a few minutes later so did two guys don't remember what their names were but they sure hit hard for our levels 140-150. Killed my friend and I had to zone. What's up with that and if we go there again and the wolves attack us and we kill them are these two going to come running after us again? What can we do in order to get the faction up here? Of course we didn't kill the wolf but I am not sure that makes a difference? Any info would be helpful. Thank you!

Had same thing happen to my monk there... after FDing at 1 bulb health left, my wolf wandered off and I thought I would pop up and lick my wounds near the shroom house. In a heartbeat I was dead and all I saw was the name of the guy was Wils Otton. Checked the list of ppl/mobs in zone and none with this name listed. Sheesh stay away from wolves! lol

I've had the same thing happen. If a wolf attacks you, and you run too close to some (maybe all) of the npc camps, you'll be attacked by the npcs.

There are several quests in Dawnshroud that appear to be unsolved. Perhaps one of them explain why this occurs.

No Exp Reward for Taking Higher /con Risks
# May 28 2002 at 8:49 AM Rating: Decent
I've noticed something strange about the EXP in this zone. Over the course of the past weekend, In every group I was in, we all noticed the same thing: It doesn't matter what you kill, all mobs give the same exp. I got about 1/6 blue from everything, regardless of con level. Blue, white, yellow or red, every kill resulted in the same reward.

So, until they fix it, I'd suggest sticking with blues, because there's no reward in taking risks in this zone.

I am a 36 ranger i love this zone way better than ot or dl,it is very hard to get groups but if u are rngr or druid this is our domain. I can solo dark blues here with only 11/29 crystalized sword and ceti ss,the thing is this
-pick your targets check for crawlers or deranges wolves they aggro every one,
-then snare ,dot or arrow class dependet keep pulling, then time your panic animal and whom, down they go. i get half blue bubble for a regular zelniak at 36 and 3 queters for wolves.-all in all great place if u have luclin.

It seems to be active during most regular hours, not packed. Usually a few small groups of different levels all over, also it is a good place for solo and duoing. It's a good exp grind on the levels of OT and Dreadlands (a bit lower) and is stil gaining popularity.

Another Outdoor Zone
# Apr 10 2002 at 7:52 AM Rating: Decent
This is another outdoor zone, slightly higher in level than Marus Seru. Having said that, I found it a bit more fun. There are mushrooms here, and if you or someone in your group has charm, setting mushrooms to fighting each other is endlessly, if mildly, entertaining. The aggro on the mobs is considerably different from MS as well. If this is your first time here, you would do well to /con the different mobs to gauge their aggression towards you. This is one of the four zones where items drop for the Twilight Sea armour quests, so if you at all interested in that loot, this is the place to start.

faction?
# Apr 08 2002 at 10:30 AM Rating: Decent
Does anyone know if there is a fix for Samata Tribe Faction? I fought them for awhile and got them down to dubious to me, but I"m afraid to fight them further until I can find out if I can, or even need to fix the faction. I don't know if there are any quests they offer or anything, also I'm still only a 31 Cleric so walking amidst 10 tribesmen that are KOS to me could be a problem. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, as I got great xp for them the other day but I don't want the zone mobbing me if I get them all to hate me.

Kill rockhoppers. That will increase your faction with the tribe.
At your level, rockhoppers are a bit high. Better wait 45+
Anyway the tribe faction is not important. They are on the way to maiden wich is a 50+ zone. You do not have to cross their camp before long except for zoning. Better choose netherbian lair for zoning and escape.

Nah, they're just MOBS. Once you get int the 50s, you'll be killing them ritually to reset the 'hopper spawn in the zone. Don't sweat it. Kill 'em. Loot 'em. Have fun.

The water in DP
# Mar 28 2002 at 12:38 PM Rating: Decent
What is the story with the water. There is an npc that says there is something mysterious and special about the water. He continues that the animals know about it and he has yet to discover it's secret. In another part of the zone there is an npc that asks if you want to go for a swim If you watch the animals, they ALWAYS go through the water.

Wondering what the effect is, haste maybe? I didnt see any visible stat buffs before/after.

Any clues?
RE: The water in DP
# Dec 11 2002 at 8:21 PM Rating: Decent
Here's my experience with the water. No spell you cast on anything in the water will succeed. I once had my pet fighting a zelniak in a pond, and could not heal my pet or damage the mob, both of which were in the water. i havent tried casting myself when im in the water, nor have I found mobs are more resistant coming out of the water, just a bizzarre feature of Luclin.

The dude that swims is named Centurion Peran. He is part of the Zelniak meat/Combine Long sword quest that starts in Sanctus Seru.

The other guy is in a tent near him..named Falein (I think)..he appears to be a monk type. I have tried to get him to talk more about the Ponds with no luck. I have gone for swims in most of the ponds, just to see if there was anything weird there and got no effect. also I have fought the animals, around and in the ponds and noticed no difference. Makes me wonder if it isn't part of some bigger quest...just not sure what..

The different NPCs seem to react differently.

I was hunting Tribesmen and Zelinaks near Maidens Eye. I hung around those two big houses for awhile, chatting with the four NPCs sitting inside. A wolf spawned inside and didn't attack me right away....it went for the halfling NPC which made short work of it.
Later on I was sitting there again, and another wolf spawned and attacked me. The NPCs didn't twitch at all. I also ran through the house with a wolf on my tail. No reaction from them.

Druid Paradise
# Mar 15 2002 at 8:39 AM Rating: Decent
This zone is great for druids. I came here for the first time at level 26 and was very intimidated because the next lowest level player in the zone was level 38. For the lower level players, zelniaks and shrooms are great xp, and they drop zelniak meat and fungus covered shrooms, which can be handed in for more xp to NPCs in Sseru and Dawnshroud. Wolves in the zone are a huge problem for players under 35, as they have a large aggro radius, are underconned, and they will spawn right on top of you out of nowhere. But if you're a druid, wolves con amiable and will not attack you unless you attack them or heal someone that they've attacked.
I started out grouping by the Netherbian zone line, but there's always terrible lag here for some reason, so I had to move. I found that pulling to the Sseru zone line is much better, since there's no lag and there are less wolves here. At around level 30, a druid can solo very easily here, pulling white and yellow zelniaks to Sseru zone line. Snare, fear, then just nuke them to death. I never had any adds, but if you do, you can just zone into Sseru. If you group, make sure your puller knows to stay away from the wolves. If he gets aggroed, DO NOT heal him unless he's about to die. You will almost automatically gain aggro and you will probably die. Have your puller set a hotkey warning the group to zone, and another set to shout Wolf to Sseru line. If it gets too much to handle, have your group zone.
These are the tactics I used to breeze through my upper 20's and lower 30's, and I don't see myself leaving anytime soon. Loot is pretty much non-existant with these mobs, so don't expect to leave here rich. But if you're all about leveling, this is the place to go.

Just a quick note, if you solo shrooms you will make money. Not mad, out of control money. But decent pp.

I have soloed shrooms from level 31 to (now) 38, make about a yellow xp per hour just on shrooms. They drop mushrooms that sell from 2-4 pp each. Drop rate is random, but seems to average about one per 3 shrooms killed. I make about 200-300 pp per level off these guys.

Hope this helps, it has been a great solo zone for me so far.

if you kill the Ancient rockhopper, it triggers the tribal guys to spawn for at least a few days until someone goes in and kills the TRIBAL LEADER

Then the rockhoppers will re spawn

the leader is faaaar back in the back of the cave system

RE: Ancient Rockhopper
# May 30 2002 at 4:28 AM Rating: Excellent
WRONG!

The ancient rockhopper is one of the class specific named mobs that drop items for the twighlight quests.

An Age Old Rockhopper is the boss hopper mob for the cave. he ranges from lvl 49 (he was even to me at that lvl) to around level 51.

They are two different mobs. You will know the Age Old easily because he is very big and grey in color.

If I could post a pic here I have a SS of it. For monks out there you must kill him for one of the armor quests as you need his claws. This is difficult because he does not always drop them. My group killed him and he didnt produce the claws just some other crap. And once he goes the Sambata spawn about 60 seconds later.

I came to Dawnshroud Peaks at the advice of fellow Rangers. I must say this is an excellent zone to experiment with spells and pulling techniques. I arrived at level 32 now I'm 38 pushing 39. The progression of MoBs I took was Lightcrawler - Small Zelniaks - Zelniaks - Large Zelniaks, with a few Shrooms thrown in from time to time. The exp is great but loot sucks. If you want to make some plat and don't mind wasting a few hours just go Netherbian lair and kill the drones and warriors. They drop up to 5pp each.

I had been killing Shrooms in DS for a while when a guildie came on and said she was having problems getting her corpse in Velious. After getting that taken care of we went to South Karana to hunt Gnolls and Aviaks and ect. I had forgotten I had a bag full of shrooms on me.

I need to go sell after picking up some fine steel weapons from around splitpaw. I ran over to the Centaur village and discovered the shrooms in my pack. The Centaur guy bought them from me at over 3 plat. a piece. Call me silly but that is not bad loot for something you get anyway while killing shrooms for XP.

Just a side note- I've noticed the Fungoids drop more plat on average than the Netherbians do. The fungoids also drop some low lvl armor and weaponry. I traded the Spore Covered Tunic for a CCS yesterday. I haven't tackled the Trogs very much, so I'm not sure about their worth. Call me crazy but, I would say Netherbian>Dawnshroud for EXP and LOOT Kicks the crap out of LOIO>OT. The Seru zone is also excelent for exp. Come here if you are sick of using Kunark as a tool.

As of today, the Netherbian Lair...aka the Netherbian Money Factory, has been nerfed.

Rarely do fungoids drop more than a few gold pieces...mostly a few silver. Netherbians seem to drop 1pp and some gold fairly often with Trogs dropping 1-3pp.

Long gone are the days of easy money here, but still a safe fun spot to bank around 100pp an hour if you are in your 40s and have nothing better to do.

spotted mushrooms
moss covered mushrooms
fungus covered mushrooms

I've tried giving the fungus ones to the gnome that supposedly cooks them and had nothing in return (and no response from the gnome) - maybe these are the ones u need.
