After the events of the Buried Sea expansion, Jameswell Dagmire, a pirate sailing the waters of the Buried Sea, began harassing the ships of the Freetide Cartel, trying to make his name known and build his riches.

One night when boarding a merchant ship belonging to the Freetide Cartel and captained by Quigley Barnables, Jameswell stopped in his tracks, sword still drawn and dripping blood. But he wasn't the only one stilled at that moment: all the men on the ships, both pirates and cartel members, turned their heads toward the reef, listening to the song that sailed over the surf. The men manned the tillers, scuttling both ships on the reef. Broken beams and broken men floated in the sea, some still swimming toward the song. One by one they disappeared as scaly hands grabbed their legs and dragged them down into the grottos. (More Brother Island Lore...)

Brother Island is a Tier 2 zone. As of December 11, 2014, it is an open zone (no progression requirements for entry).

This is a great zone to grind xp in either in a group or solo
mercenary tasks

The first thing to do upon entering this zone is to get all the mercenary tasks, they are unlimited n duration and you can get credit for kills as you go about your business.

As a druid the temptation to solo the animals found on this island is darn near irresistible! Herewith my discoveries about animals and other mobs found here. This is a work in progress...

Sippin's Guide to Brother Island NPCs:

General:
Nothing is automatically KOS here except sirens and nameds. This seems to apply to all Norrathian races and classes.
Nothing sees thru invis except nameds. That includes undead, surprisingly.
Animals/plants assist other animals/plants; humanoids assist other humanoids (to be determined if there are specific exceptions)
Nothing seems to assist nameds, not even mobs of the same species/race.
No faction hits on animals.
Humanoids have faction hits, usually either +brother or +sirens with negative to the opposite faction

Specific mob types:
Furthick (apes): can be rooted/snared, doesn't summon, cannot be pacified, no faction. POUNDERS do summon, not the other types!
Razorlatch (crabs): can be rooted/snared, doesn't summon, can be pacified, no faction
Squawker (parrots): cannot be rooted/snared, can be pacified, no faction, don't think they summon
Turtles: can be rooted/snared, doesn't summons, can be pacified, no faction, PITA water mob
Tasselvines, can be rooted/snared, can be pacified, no summon
an itinerent merchant: can be rooted/snared, doesn't summon, can be pacified, animals do not assist, faction hit
a lost wanderer: can be rooted/snared, doesn't summon, can be pacified, animals do not assist, brothers do not assist, NO faction hit. These are great to quad- or quint-kite since you can run the kite right thru other mobs and they won't add, as long as your aoe spell doesn't land on any of them.

One of my favorite TDS zones. I just wish it had been designed a bit bigger...

Hunted there for the first time today.

Couple observations:

Funthik pounder - Kited, it did NOT summon me.
Lost wanderers - Tried several of them, NOT pacifiable.

Yeah, it's weird, they do seem to change the abilities of these mobs. Or it so appears. I hadnt kited them in a few weeks, I went back and suddenly either I couldnt snare or I got summoned. Getting summoned INTO a pack of 12 mobs... well, it's not very good for a druid's health!

EQ seems to be making small changes without really saying much, I have had to make some adjustments to the HS guides for rangers as well. Surprising Rangers do fare well against 12 mobs either that summon.
