Also known as the Runnyeye Citadel, this underground channel of cavernous tunnels was once home of Clan Runnyeye. The Pickclaw Goblins took over, taking the former Runnyeye goblin inhabitants and evil eyes prisoner.

Be sure you have roots and snares at the ready in here. There are some nasty things in the deeper parts of this dungeon that a group that has only just begun to move through the top level won't be able to handle if a runner gets away. Getting a SoW before you enter also helps in getting out before the train catches up to you, and you WILL either create a train of your own or get run over by someone else's sooner or later in here.

This zone now seems to be indoors. When I try to cast out-door only spells, it does not take and I get the message " this spell only works outdoors."

I saw a Paladin post about Soloing this zone at level 47 and not to do it before. Being the hard headed person that I am I had to try at level 40. First off let me say to those Kei lovers out there you can forget it. First mob I fought dispelled my Kei after a few minutes of cussing up a storm I proceeded. I recommend going straight to the 4th level as on the second level there are Mindrippers who can charm you. (bad when in a group) To get to the 4th floor when you go down a ramp with a door go left and it will take you straight to the 4th level. If you want a good exp group and a place to practice raiding I recommend this zone with a full group of level 25-35, an Enchanter would make it easy but its still doable with out one. The exp at these levels would be awesome. I'v read about mobs invising themselves but I havn't run into it in the 2 hours I've been circling the zone. Nor have I had a problem with more than 3 mobs at a time as long as you know what you're doing you really shouldn't get more than 2 and that was a rare case at level 40. The hardest mob I fought was Battlemaster Unak he got me down to 1 and a half bubbles of health before I finally finished him off. In this zone root is your best friend. If a mob goes to run root him otherwise you will definatly have to deal with adds. I rooted all of my mobs once they got down to 2 bubbles of health. Also always keep your front to the mobs if possible. Those back stabs really hurt for a 130 or so. But at level 40 I managed to have at least 50 mana after each fight and almost full health. The only spells I used where root and greater heals. With all the dispelling from the zekspeakers and what not I didnt bother buffing myself. Also if you do happen to get multiple targets root run back a few feet and root the next one on you. Then just attack them and reroot the other mobs once one dies. Always go for the casters first. The best bet to start off is stay along the canal and go back and forth there are a few big rooms that open into it that you can easily pull from with a bow. At level 40 I soloed this entire zone with almost no problems. But for soloing at this level it's a real challange and I don't recommend it if you dont know how to play your class to its fullest. Also if you plan on soloing here I recommend not going near the evil eyes. They'll rip you a new one. For a low level group I have one bit of advice. Stick together no matter what dont let any one get seperated that should be the only time you have to worry about dying. All in all it's a great zone lots of fun decent loot and a good place to learn dungeon tactics for the inexperienced. If any one has any questions feel free to e-mail me at thewolf_333@yahoo.com with questions or to give me(Frodomok) a tell on Xegony. I'd be happy to give more info as this is my favorite zone that I've been obsessed with since my newbie days as a halfling warrior.

Addon: Well was down here tonight. Seemed alot tougher than last night still doable though. I can definatly confirm that the Foeseekers invis themselves. As well as Battlemaster Unak I took him on in the throne room with less than 50 mana and had just under 2 bubs of health left when done and one blue bubble of mana. All in all this zone isnt to bad but definatly watch out for those invis mobs. If I hadnt been careful and gotten all the invised mobs before Unak I would have gotten spanked severly. Best place I find to start out is going up and down the water ways picking off the mobs in the big rooms that lead off of it then heading in to areas such as the bar.

Caster or not, Melee especially... Id have to say MoldMaster....You will not find a tougher fight down here. I will be honest, I have not even faught the lord and so on, but moldmaster's regen alone makes him an insane mob. I have a 35 Ranger I was in here with, that makes him a full 10 below me, I was nicely geared and he OWNED me. By that I mean when it was over after I turned on my blinding blender of an attack he was down about 1 bubble and flattened me. His regen id wager is probably about 25 a tick... its absurd. Id think he is charmable, and or druid charmable with charm plant. he would wipe this zone. He really does not hit THAT hard. hes just insane with regen. If your a CHANTER, use that permacharm on him. he will NOT let you down, that im sure of.

I have come to Runny Eye the past two days, to find the place completely poped, with me the only one in zone. I have found LPC in three different places. 1. In the shop behind the bank. 2. In the upstairs of the wooden building, 3. On the EQatlas map where it says he spawns. 1 and 2 were after the zone had been up a while, 3 is after I cleared it. I don't know if he moves, or if he now spawns all over. Got a coif at 1, a medalian at 2, and crap at 3.

Pickup groups in Runnyeye are generally non-existent. For real fun, gather up a group of adventurers and head down to slay some Goblins.

Generally Runnyeye is empty aside from a 50+ farming level four.

The loot here is exceptional if you're level appropriate for the zone.

This is a great zone to solo if you are a level 47 Paladin with decent armour. I came looking for BAMs for some of my other characters and ended up staying a long time. Occasionally a named mob will give experience, but it is certainly not a good reason to come. I did find a mask which was an upgrade for my Paladin. Aside from this I found a number of BAMs as well as runes, words, gems, BA armour & weapons. It is not easy, although with care and the occasional LOH you should not die, just make sure you move slowly and don't leave anything alive behind which might suprise you later. I would not recommend trying to solo the zone at a lower level or even if you are the same level but a different class. I was commonly fighting upwards of 5 mobs at a time, including casters blasting for up to 250 and Rogues BSing for 125. Paladins are ideal for this zone as they have the AC to stop the blows, bash to disrupt the casters, HP to absorb the damage, heals to keep you going on those long battles and LOH for when you run into that named mob at the wrong time. The most difficult mob I found was the Sporali Mold Master. It has a lot of HP and casts some nasty spells. It is however a rare spawn and dropped nothing the two times I found him during the long period I hunted there. I was alone in the zone most of the time.

I'm guessing that you are kos in Rivervale, so that leaves you with two choices:

If your HighKeep/pass faction is high enough you could be bound in HighKeep and then do the long, long, long run down the ramp in East Karana from Highpass hold.

Your other option (probably the best one) is to be bound at the Gypsy camp in North Karana. You should be able to be bound right at the edge of the binding area if the Gypsies don't like you.

I (level 18 Ranger) and a few friends of mine (highest was 20) decided to take a trip down to runny eye. From the beholder zone line we ran directly down to level 2 without anything going agro on us, no1 was invis just walking. we camped the first room (the one with the water pit in the middle) for a good 2 hours and pulled 2 there. Had no problems and got great XP, after the two hours i had dinged 20 and we decided to move. We got sorta lost looking for a new place 2 camp but we ended up where the mold master spawns. Camped there for 3 more hours and didn't he didn't spawn but the area around where he spawns in safe, we pulled to there until i dinged 24 and we decided to leave. Mobs were under control and we had no major problems, our cleric even got bored hehe. The loot wasn't to great but in 5 hours of playing gaining 6 levels is pretty good! No one was there except us 6 so you didn't have to worry about all the n00b shouts, i think this is a great place to hunt from lvl 18 and above, just get a well rounded group, sit back and relax, gain some lvls and have a good time cause after all thats what EQ is about.

A while ago on a foray into this den of evil I pulled up my tracking and saw Lord Pickclaw up. I'd never killed him before, let alone seen him, so I tracked him down. I came to a room in the SW corner of the 4th floor that has a door that won't open for some reason, tracking was telling me he was back there. Before I could figure it out he despawned. Anyone know how to get that door open?

There can also be enother mob near that door - go close to it and the mob will open the door for you.

Rush inside and hey presto you are locked in. Fight the lord or whatever mobs are in there and then if youre lucky they will try to run and you follow them back out. If not you'll have to wait for the next mob to spawn in the room or to wander near the door and open it for you.

mid-50s rogue couldnt pick the lock so you'll need to rely on the mobs opening it for you.

And yes we did find the lord in there once.
my recent experience of runnyeye
# Feb 25 2002 at 8:06 AM Rating: Excellent
having been chased out of runnyeye a long time ago by hordes of goblins and being at a loose end I decided to have a look and see at what point the goblins would start aggroing a 47 paladin.

the zone was empty of players so I took the ramp down to the 4th level (the one near the gorge zone) and found that pretty much everything aggrod on me.

At 47 with the advantage of helm healing and swinging my runed frost blade I found that I can hold the entire 4th floor but be warned the named pops do spawn in prety much any of the rooms and ofetn have company. Fighting the Lord or Battlelord when the Battlewiz runs in from the next room with another helper can be quite painful.

My first session yielded plenty of black iron and black alloy armour plus the medallion which immediately got handed to a druid friend of mine.

I made my way out after a couple of hours and handed out armour and a long sword and ******* sword to some low lvl chars and then took stock. I seemed to have made a fair bit of cash (gobs dropping nearly 5pp sometimes and often having words etc) as wel as making a number of people happuy - esp the Druid.

So I decided to head backin and try to secure another BAM for another friend.

Well in the course of a week I've usually had zone to myself. I have been in runnyeye when another char or 2 turns up and because of the random spawning of named the ususal tactic adopted seems to be to run around as quickly as possible picking off any mob you come to.

Having said that i've been happy to buff and heal my competitors when i've met them and have received clarity and buffs in return too. Only once did someone run straight past me to kill the lord as I pulled him.

I've picked up 7 BAMs now - all spoken for with friends and guildies - perhaps I'll get 1 to sell 1 day. 3 coifs (1 for me because of the resists).
I've equipped various characters in misty with armour, kitted out some guildies with armour and weapons and given pieces to friends.

I've also made over 1600pp from plat and words etc picked up from gobs. I've not sold any of the decent loot it's all gone to good homes but i'm sure there must be a market for it if you're so inclined.

Not bad because I've never had that much cash and was down to 400pp.

I also got the item from Sludge Dankmire to get the quest BP for a cleric friend - it'll go nicely with the bracer that I've also got stuff for.

So I guess I've become that reviled farmer that everyone hates - but if youre going to do it this is 1 good zone to do it in as it's usally empty. Just don't wander down there unless you've got good ac or a good pet (and preferably some healing too).

Some things to be aware of:

Foeseekers invis themselves - so dont presume the room only has 1 mob in it - you may find another 2 trying to backstab you.

There are wandering mobs - I have on occasion killed 3 mobs in a room to then have another enter and as I drop him another apears - my record so far is 4 of these adds on top of the mobs I started with in the room.

the casters will, of course, heal their frineds through the walls - if you combine this with the wandering adds mentioned above it can get quite tiring.

you can use the bank on 4th floor even tho kos to the banker - but if you (stupidly) sit down in th bank he will attack. once I did this and then went back to bank and he attacked on sight - after I logged out and back in he seemed to come to his senses and no longer attacks.

I guess if youre a sneaky type or can illusion yourself you can also sell to the bartenders or merchants.

If you want to camp 1 spot with minimal adds and reasonable chance of getting the nameds I suggest the wooden room (up to 4 mobs on upper level) or the waterfall area near the bank (up to 4 mobs).

I've certainly seen all the nameds at both those spots.

yes they are there and it's best you avoid them. There are two surrounded by a bunch of goblins. Don't go down the ramp near the Misty side. That's where they are and you won't see them till you run through the fake wall.

The evil eyes nuke for 250dmg. When I was 27 I tried pulling them to my group above so I could get the runes for my crafted armour quest. I died in 4 seconds taking 750 dmg. Even now at 42 and an MR of upwards of 90 I can still have trouble soloing both of them at once. Same can be said for the Battlewizard and Lord Picklaw.

This dungeon is a lot of fun, but can be very dangerous. Go down the ramp from the gorge side. Only careful of the goblins that can charm you. They can become a real pain. My friends and I hunted here a lot at 20-25 and the sporali's which are beyond the first door at the end of the ramp give great XP. But no real good loot except High Quality Ore which sells nicely, but is extremely heavy.

If you want to fight goblins, best to clear out as many as you can from the ramp first or you'll have a huge train.

Good Luck!

They sure are there! I trusted the info from down below ("New Runny, June 19, 1:06 PM") and led my party down to the blocked door. We had 5 between 19 and 24th level, plus a 43rd level Cleric riding shotgun and doing heals. Total party wipeout! (Almost) The cleric made it out and I made it out. The Guild sent in a 53rd lv Druid to kill the eyes and drag bodies. People were feared, and it was ugly.

D-oh!

Sorry to hear it, and hate to say I told you so. But don't let it discourage you too much. Just avoid that ramp. The eyes usually stay just in that room.

Though on the other ramp (and the second floor in general) you still have to be careful of the Mindrippers. They'll charm the pants off your tanks. At least here you all have a chance at escaping if things get ugly. Just make sure everyone knows where the zone to the gorge is.

As a druid of the 30th season who has visited Runnyeye several times here's my advice.

If you're coming here looking for the good loot (i.e. BA Armor, medallion, BABS, BALS) you need to be of at least 35th level solo as a melee (or mage/necro with pet) or 40th as a caster. Any lower and it's risky cause you will be grouped upon at some point and the Battlewizard and Lord are undercons.

The best stuff drops on the bottom (4th) floor, so get a map. At 28th level a group of myself, a 28 warrior, and a 29 mage camped in the bar. There are only 3 spawns in this room and the spwn time is very slow. Plus there are no wanderers. You can pull safely to this room though you may get a few adds.

A group such as this can take any mob in the dungeon other than the BattleWizard and the Lord himself. These 2 and Battlelord Paulk are the mobs the farmers come looking for, and trust me there will be farmers in the zone (I've never been in Runny and not seen at least one PC of level 45+). The edge you can get is if you have a tracker in your group. The named mobs spawn in random locations so it's impossible to camp one spot for them. I've paired up with a level 38 warrior friend of mine on a couple of occasions and since I can track we get to the nameds almost immediately after they spawn. Before the other farmers can get there. The coif and mask are by far the most rare pieces of loot. I've only seen the coif drop once and never seen the mask. Other than that I mysef have looted all the other BA armor, a BA medallion, BABS, and 2 BALS.

This dungeon is fun and should be camped for experience more than it is. At level 30 I still get exp from half of the mobs here. So definitely give it a try.

Hail, and well met.
I've noticed a couple of posts here asking the question of what a certain level can expect from runnyeye. Here is my recent experience.

I had been doing some research, looking for a decent place to go in my teens. Runnyeye looked like the place to be as it was rated 14-35. A friend and I went together, he a 15 paladin and I, a 14 Bard. We zoned in after hacking the goblin camp outside. Ran around a corner and chased a greenie down and began nailing the poor bugger to the floor. Next thing we knew, I was /shout-ing RUN to the Pally and heading myself towards the zone. We had like 5 or 6 mobs on each of us, at least half of them were casters, and I was able to make it out of the zone with like a bubble of hp left. The pally wasnt so lucky. He lost his direction sense, and ran screaming to level 2 or 3, where the goblins nailed HIM to the floor. I made several further attempts to enter runnyeye, and search for his corpse, with no luck, barely escaping each time myself.

Perhaps we had zoned in when some trains had just ended at the zone, but I don't think so. This was just a very difficult place for our level and class, even at the entrance. Perhaps a Cleric could have made a difference, and perhaps pulling some critters to the zone to have a safe evac route would work. As for me? I don't think I'll be heading back there till my low to mid 20's
RE: Lower Level Characters
# Nov 02 2001 at 7:20 AM Rating: Excellent
Runnyeye can be a tricky place. Even with my lvl 56 druid ALL mobs here tend to attack me when I am not invisible and ALL mobs here will aid each other if you attack one. One false move here can result in a major train, so better prevend runners at all. I suggest getting a good well ballanced group to hunt here, starting at mid 20s. Runnyeye is almost always empty beside some high level ppl farming for the Lord, Battlewizard and other named mobs so you have a big pool of mobs to kill.

RunnyEye Help

Hiya! I started hunting in RunnyEye after leaving the first heck level (30). This was after I tried Cazic-Thule and found that I still couldn't pull Gators one at a time without aggroing another. I guess my focus quests will have to wait…

RunnyEye follows the same viscious circle that other dungeons suffer from. Nobody goes there except to farm for his or her alts. Therefore, the spawns fill up and it becomes very claustrophobic very quickly. Since there's Goblins crawling all over the place, it's tough to enter RunnyEye and start hunting by yourself because you can't get any breaks to med up without aggroing everybody and their Grandma. So nobody goes there except high level players who farm for their alts or sell off the stuff to lowbies and won't give you the time of day when you ask to join a group. All the really good stuff is at the bottom (surprise, surprise) but you have to get past a chunk of the dungeon to get there.

See what I mean?

The only time RunnyEye works well is if there's at least some (3 to 4) people there breaking spawns and at least running around killing wandering Gobbos. However, being a Mage does allow me to get to the bottom undetected and hunt with some luck. Here's how:

1. Invis yourself in the adjacent zone and run to level four. Summoning your pet at the top will just aggro something and eventually you'll have to run when more passing Goblins join the fight. I've seen Goblins aggro my pet at the Gorge zone while I'm resting and it's a very frustrating sight. Since the fourth floor is the most spacious of the levels, it'll allow you room to maneuver about.
2. Summon your pet (with optional weapon and buffs) in a secluded part of the zone. My favorite spot is on the other end of the waterway, away from the fountain. This area doesn't have any spawns and the nearest room is a little ways down. Then med up and start hunting. Clean the waterways and work your way into the rooms. Most rooms have two or more spawns, so if it gets too heavy, just pull along the water. Always make sure you have enough man to Gate to safety.

I'm still lvl 31 and can get an occasional blue or green that gives me XP. Since it's a dungeon (20% bonus), that makes it all the better. Remember that the best time to go is when there are at least some people there and if there's not, then just hunt along the water.
