BlackBurrow is the home of the Sabertooth Clan gnolls, a group not particularly fond of outside visitors. It connects to both the Everfrost Peaks and Qeynos Hills.

Be advised that the dense gnoll population combined with their habit of running deeper into the stronghold for help can make for some pretty impressive trains.

Note: For the higher level revamp version of this zone during the "Hardcore Heritage" event, that is running several weeks in june, click here !

Temporary
# Jul 10 2009 at 3:36 AM Rating: Decent
It was changed, temporarily, for gnolish gear. Then again over the anniversary period was changed again. It's something along the lines of a hot zone except it's more for drops than xp. There were other zones too, such as Unrest and Lower Guk(I think).
Reverted

I walked in here with my level 12 in January 2009 and found the zone safe for hunting. If the zone was once full of really high level stuff then it has reverted back to the levels described here.
Thanks for the memmo

Hi! My name is paydor, and I'm a recovering ever-crack addict. Ok not really. i just go through my phases. I've been playing off and on since 1999 and have gone though 3 accounts. currently I hold a 52 Barbairian BL. thanks for the heads up. Unlike alot of players that have joined since the days of POK and NEXUS and well non-druid dependancy, I still find it fun at times to take a walk around the countryside. However, I guess I will be avioding Blackburro for a little while now! It doesn't sound like a place I want to cut thoguh any more....
Revamped Zone....lame info
# Oct 10 2008 at 6:06 PM Rating: Decent
So this zone got revamped in July of 2008, mobs are now 70-80, but they are still listed as 5-15....

It appears the information is a little out of date....somebody want to wake up one of those admin people and get the corrections done?
BlackBurrow = Leather and Chain class dream come true

The zone revamp is great for the occasional player like me. My main is Lixsa, an 80 Beastlord on Bertoxx, and he is mid-level raid geared. Some slots are nearly impossible to upgrade with raid items...there simply isn't enough raid gear to go around. In 5 hours yesterday my group managed to pick up about 17 items with double digit stats and 350 hp/mana/end. While this zone will not replace our regular raid progression, it will help to equip some of our newer members with the gear that they need to survive in the mid-level raid zones that we are attempting. Under no circumstances should you buy this gear. It is wayyy too easy to farm and in just a few hours an entire group can get a lot of upgrades. BTW a FD puller is almost mandatory considering the tight quarters and the fact that the revamped MOBs hit like trucks and you'll almost always get 1-3 adds. Bind your soul near your camp, expect to die frequently, and enjoy the upgrades. I died 6 times in 5 hours, got 2 pieces for myself, 1 for my alts, picked up 7 AAs, and my group got another 11 items for themselves and guildies.

The revamped occured at midnight lastnight. i was there when it popped. had just left Crystallos and got bored so decided to check on it...suddenly zone froze up and things repopped and tried to eat me =/. trash mobs are still here. they also added all the Darkpaw gnolls from Qeynos (Grarrax, Nixx, Kraxz, Djerr etc...yes even Fippy) as nameds. they also added "a gnoll arcanist", "a gnoll archer" as trash mobs. nameds appear to be as follows..... Fippy Darkpaw, Trannix Darkpaw, Djerr Darkpaw, Grarrax Darkpaw, Nixx Darkpaw, Kraxz Darkpaw, Socho Darkpaw, Holinix Darkpaw, Lord Elgnub, Splitpaw Commander, Refugee Splitpaw, Mannan of the Sabertooth, Master Brewer, The gnoll high shaman, The gnoll tactitian. Also An Unmasked Riftseeker still spawns from corpses like in Lower Guk and drop xp pots. trash cons light blue and dark blue to 80. Shamans, Commanders and Elite Gnoll Guards con dark blue, white and yellow to 80. Nameds con yellow or red indicating 81-85 in lvl. As for see invis there is none except the occasionaly Elite Guard or Commander/named will see invis...and by occasional i mean 1/50 mobs ;P. Also Tranixx Darkpaw is undead for some reason. dunno why but he is ;P

According to one of the devs Blackburrow revamp goes live July 26!!!! Thats saturday (err tomorrow techincally due to the time i wrote this) coming with the new Chain and Leather drops. I'm a mage the drops aren't that important to me the zone is. i grew up in this zone in 99 i'm the ultimate gnoll fanatic ;P...however SoE has the unfortunate habit to change things last minute or mess things up soooo it's slightly possible the confirmed date is wrong it may be set back later or it could even happen later today for all we know....guess we just gotta wait and see ;)

Yes it is pretty much confirmed Blackburrow will be revamped in the same or similar manner as Lower Guk. it will supposedly drop the Chain and Leather random armor (just like Lower Guk currently drops Plate and Silk) and will also have some sort of mob that spawns out of corpses and drops xp pots (like the Unmasked Riftseeker Pyrilens do in Lower Guk now). Though to be honest any details on what exactly it will hold is un known for the most part we can only assume it will be exactly as Lower Guk is now. Also the release date is unknown. Some say it will be in a week or two (possibly even next week) others say not until Lower Guk is returned to normal (August 4th). I think it's already on test but i'm not on there so don't quote me on that. Either way it is confirmed that yes Blackburrow WILL be revamped none the less. Being someone who raised a toon in 1999 in Qeynos being able to xp here again at lvl 80... is a dream come true to say the least lol

Hi Onlinies,

I hunted BB back in 2002 and I remember the plagued skeletons at hedgestone outside was good for quest items. there are some gnolls patrolling outside BB, Once inside the entrance is a good camp spot, and moving down it gets move difficult, theres the elite ledge, the commander below, and the commander inside.

Spawning questions
# Aug 19 2003 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
Hello all.
Just a few curiosity questions. First off, how often, or how do I get Trannix to spawn! I have been curious for some time now. I know this is where Trannix Darkpaw should be just never see him.
Secondly, is there a way to make Elgnub spawn or is on a time limit how often he spawns? I am not sure and am still kinda new at all this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
RE: Spawning questions
# Nov 28 2003 at 8:37 PM Rating: Decent
I can answer Elgnub, He spawns almost 5 Mins after everytime he dies or spawns away.

I have a friend who lives in BB and has made a ton o' cash while levelling at the same pace I have (I seek tougher MOBs for better XP). Here is how he does it.

There are three quests involving Black Burrow that can be done simultaneously;

The Quests
Gnoll Teeth - Turn these in to the Captain at the Arena in Qeynos for faction/XP, or turn them in to Lysbith McNaff in Halas for same.
Baby Joseph Sayer - Kill Lord Elgnub when he spawns and take the kid back to Marton Sayer in the cottage on the path to Qeynos for faction, big XP and a couple plat.
Club of Gnoll bashing - Kill the gnoll courier and pick up all four items (Area Maps, Invasion Plans, Marching Orders, Encryption Key - drops 1 item randomly per kill), then turn these in to Rilca Leafrunner for the CoGB. This thing sells to merchants for 190pp!!

The Plan
While camping the courier (spawns every 25 mins)kill/loot gnolls for teeth and any other sellables. If you can track, check frequently to see if Elgnub is up so you can kill him (he harm touches for 200+ but other then that not too tough). Loot baby and take to Marton immediately as Elgnub spawns randomly and you can only have 1 baby at a time. Kill the courier until you get the items then get your club. If the club is beneficial to you in here, don't worry. Use it and collect all 4 items again. Sell the one you have, then see Rilca to get another one. Periodically unload your goods when taking the baby in then turn in teeth in Qeynos/Halas when you have to shed some weight in coin.

The Problem
This is insanely boring! You also will not get your skills up as fast as the only guys that will give you that benefit are Elgnub and the Courier after lvl 35.

My friend has like 7kpp and some nice gear as well for enduring this drudgery and I am somewhat jealous since the XP from the quests has him keeping pace with me as far as levels and he is far, far wealthier.

LOL...that was so long ago..I am the friend he was talking about..and I did make a lot of plat (or what seemed like a lot of plat at the time)..I have a lot more now and it could be somewhat boring but as I told him then and I will tell anyone now..none of your business...you play how you want and leave everyone else alone... and even more important keep your opinions to yourself...they have as much relevance as what can be found floating in the toilet after a bad flush...

Loot
# Jun 20 2003 at 10:17 PM Rating: Decent
As Jocoman mentioned earlier, this is a great place to get some cash. Blood, feet, jaws, spines, and almost all the furs that drop are worth about 2 gold each, so a stack is worth about 4 plat. Nice if you are just starting and are having trouble buying all your spells.

These Gnolls caused me death in the low levels soooo many times i am going to enjoy doing quest for Gnollslayer just gonna leave behind me a trail of corpses.
Got Bad Faction at high levels??
# Mar 24 2003 at 1:15 AM Rating: Decent
So maybe u killed one to many guards, no biggy! If you have an AE spell, get the biggest train possible, dont forget to warn people, the pull it to the top of the zone, and BLAST EM! i killed oh say 100 of em, maybe took 200 points of damage. I made everyone in the zone go, WOW! like ten times, and told them to loot up. the more you pull the better faction you are going to get!

41 Druid - Bibbil
27 Beastlord - Uaylander
12 Warrior - Spank

Do gnolls help with Halas faction? If not, what is the best thing to kill for a erudite necro to raise kos status to Halas?

I know it helps with Qeynos..but unsure about Halas.

No, the gnolls do not give faction with Halas. Probably because barbarians have not (in lore) had many problems with the gnolls, only the humans. Anyway, there is a quest in Halas that does involve the gnolls of Blackburrow.

Lysbith McNaff in the pit of Doom (the warrior place in Halas) will give you minor rewards and FACTION for every 3 gnoll teeth you give her. Giving teeth to Lysbith Mcnaff raises your faction with Wolves of the North; Shamen of Justice; Merchants of Halas; Steelwarriors.

Blackburrow can be a tough dungeon. I got discouraged there too. The key is to just play smart. Gnolls are very social and will gang up on you, so don't pull mobs that are really close together.

Also, if you can, take your group and team up with another group down there. If you pull more than you can take, have the other group pull some pressure off. It's probably not your gear, realize. This dungeon was designed before ANY of the expansions and made for low level people with crappy gear. It can be done, just hold out for better groups, save that money, and get some gear.

you should post this in your class discussion they could help you a lot more and another reason is that almost nobody posts in this discussion any more so the chances of getting a reply that actually helps you is way slimmer

To make money in this zone just have about six bookbags and a decent amount of strength. Loot just about everything that drops from the gnolls, it all stacks and is worth in the range of 2gp per. Loot these things: any gnoll hides or skins besides patch of fur or the bb gnoll pelts. Loot jaw bones, spines, severed gnoll feet, vials of blood and scoutsman documents. Also, keep all fangs for the exp and faction in Qeynos with Captain Tillian. Just kill all the easy stuff and loot everything I mentioned and get stacks and stacks of loot. I have made 30-40pp per run into BB, as a level 16-18. Also, do loot the collars from elites, but pretty much none of their other items are worth anything.

i had a simmilar problem but when i looked really close it was half in the wall all i could see was a foot. another time i saw a corpe floating way above the zone into BB from Q hills and it wasnt lootable cause it was out of range. so either look harder and ask for help looking or petition. good luck.
