GULF OF GUNTHAK: This port is the gateway to the lair of the Broken Skull Clan. It serves as the home for the newly recruited clan members and temporary housing for anyone that the clan trusts just enough not to kill outright.

Anyone wishing to learn about this fierce group of Trolls should start here and, if they are lucky, find the passages into the deeper parts of Broken Skull Rock.

They are on the east side of the beach (left as you approach from PoK zone in). Group of 4 skellies - check NPC list for the zone. Also note they appear to be on a faster repop than other mobs by about 5 mins

Did exploration quest I found in this zone. Found this quest hard on lvl 53 wizard. Zoning to the mines in Dulak harbor took a while. Got quest from NPC near pok zone in with all the vendors. Reward was 47 plat and some change

Could a 34 necro with ok gear be able to fear kite here? or would I have to do the ole pet tank and I nuke approach? any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

As a necro, I would aggro kite the mobs as opposed to fear kiting...you can controll where the mob goes after it has been snared. When you fear the mob, you will have to figure out the path it will take and you may get adds doing that.

Between levels 61 and 65 I found there's 50 different tasks offered by the two task masters, Assistant Vagli (at 1386, 67) and Cadale Brohat (in Light House). Three categories of tasks, long, medium and short are destinguished by the number of stages which are accomplishments you need before you can move on to later stages. The long tasks seem to all require about 10 harder mob kills, 4 loots found and then mostly running around or another 10 easy mob kills. Long tasks yeild 0.43 exp aa and a little over 219 platinum. Medium (about .32 exp aa) and short (about .11 exp aa) tasks usually have the hard stages and fewer running around stages - but some short and even medium tasks are just running around and thus real easy.

Mystery solved:

The trigger for this stuff is whatever quest someone happens to be starting in the zone. For instance, the Temperance quest for Clerics trigger (as best as I could tell) to get the ghost to pop is talking to the NPC by the light house. I camped this thing for about two hours killing everything that I could get my hands on and nothing. Swam/ran back to the NPC that starts the quest and hailed him a few times, swam/ran back to the boat where the ghost pops and there she was. Could have been coencidence but I personally think it was not.
Two Finished, unlisted Tasks
# Aug 25 2005 at 6:36 PM Rating: Default
Alright, I've just completed two mid-50's tasks in Gunthak and I have full info on both. Both, "Pray for Life" and "Time for Bed" are gotten from Cadale Brohat, female erudite inside the Lighthouse at loc 1509, -238. I got both at level 55.

"Pray for Life" Medium length

(In the task window) "What a glorious day to go on patrol! That's exactly what you'll be doing for the next little while, soldier. You're going to start by taking the time to explore the small prayer pedestal to the left of the entrance,.[sic] Don't do anything fancy, just keep your eyes peeled for any signs of hostile actions in the area. If you find anything, then you'll know what to do. Good luck!"

Zone: Gunthak
Objective: Explore the small prayer pedestal. 0/1

Run to the large, castle-like entrance to Nadox in Gunthak. Your task gets updated near loc -2867, 2515.

(In the task window) "Whoa! Hold up a minute! Did you hear the commotion? There's been a report of an enemy unit nearby! Go find them and kill 10 shady treasure sorters,.[sic] Make sure you get rid of them all, even if it's just for the thrill of the hunt. Speaking of which, go ahead and loot 4 Shiv, while you're at it, just so you have something to remember the adventure. You can put them on your wall at home later on."

Zone: Dulak's Harbor
Objective: Kill 10 shady treasure sorters. 0/10

Head to Dulak and kill "a shady treasure sorter"'s in the three different warehouses across Dulak. One of the warehouses is near loc -180, -190.

Zone: Dulak's Harbor
Objective: Loot 4 Shiv. 0/4

You basically can loot the shivs off of anything but you shouldn't have any trouble getting them off of the treasure sorters. I didn't get a message when I looted all 4 shivs.

(In the task window) "Time to get back to your patrol duties, so explore the Hungry Shark tavern along the southern docks,.[sic] When you're done, you can head back."

Zone: Dulak's Harbor
Objective: Explore the Hungry Shark Tavern.

Once you enter the tavern at loc -612, -581 your task gets updated.

(In the task window) "Aside from that little skirmish you had, your patrol wasn't too taxing. That's more than can be said for some of the others that were sent on patrol today. In any case, you do have those prizes you collected, so why not deliver 4 Shiv to Welligorn, so they can be stuffed and put on display for you."

Zone: Gunthak
Objective: Deliver 4 Shiv to Welligorn. 0/4

Welligorn is found in Gunthak on the beach at -200, -670. Hand him the 4 Shivs to complete the task.
(In yellow text) "Good job out there today. Your primary duty was simply to patrol, but when the going got tough, you got fighting! That's the kind of spirit that more soldiers should have. Heck, you may even be ready for command some day. Not today, but some day. Maybe. In any case, here's part of your bounty for mopping that mess up today. Keep it up!"

At level 55 I got 5% regular exp and 94pp, 5gp, 3sp, and 1cp.

-----------------

"Time for Bed" Short length.

(In the task window) "The world is growing at an alarming rate and there aren't enough plots of land available for everyone and their livestock to live in. That's why it's up to you to find some new plots of land. Your first target is going to be nearby, which is why you need to explore the sleeping quarters in the southern mines,.[sic] You'll know once you arrive if it's a good place of property or not."

Zone: Torgiran
Objective: Explore the sleeping quarters in the southern mines. 0/1

On the map you'll see an area in the southern mines area that looks sort of like:

xxxx0xx0xx
()-------x (x's are blank space to format)
xxx0xx0xxx

I entered the first room on the right there at loc -88, 4 and got the task update.

(In the task window) "That wasn't the most hospitable place in the world, especially not for a family, but there are plenty of other locations you can visit. This time, why don't you explore the ship Oceancrasher at one of the eastern docks,?[sic] You're bound to get lucky sooner or later and find a suitable living spot."

Zone: Dulak's Harbor
Objective: Explore the ship Oceancrasher at one of the eastern docks. 0/1

Run to Dulak and you can basically run straight east out of the armory and you'll get to the Oceancrasher dock. Go on the boat and at about loc 244, -1752 and get the task update.

(In the task window) "It's interesting that there wasn't a good area anywhere. You're going to have to let the prospective buyers know about it, so speak with Dellthuea, to give them the bad news."

Zone: Gunthak
Objective: Speak with Dellthuea 0/1

Dellthuea's at the docks behind one of the houses northish of the lighthouse at loc 1618, -169. Hailing her updates and finishes the task.

(In yellow text) "Sadly, you couldn't find any plots of land that were suitable for living, but don't fret. It wasn't your fault, just the fault of overused land that hasn't been taken care of nearly well enough. In any case, here's your finder's fee, even though you didn't exactly find anything. Your services may be called upon again soon, and if they are, try not to disappoint, okay?"

At level 55 I got 2% regular exp and 47pp, 2gp, 6sp, 6cp.

Sorry, no logs for this as proof but I have about 12 screenshots with info for both if it's really necessary for input into the database. Good luck to anybody on these. They were both soloed for the most part with a 55 monk, decently equipped.

I just received and completed "Time for Bed" from the other task NPC. I have noticed while leveling in this zone that the various tasks are generally not entered into Alla, but all seem to involve the same exploration / collection requirements. Some sort of generic "Gunthak" entry, which is flagged with all of the various task names, could be helpful.

My beastlord fast approaches 40, when I will have to look at getting the Malaria spell (a Gunthak quest). I would like to know what level the Broken Skull Bruiser is that I have to fight to get the strange dark powder. it's not on the bestiary listing for mobs in Gunthak, so I'm completely in the dark on this one. Any help would be really appreciated.

I know this post is old, but just in case anyone else comes looking for this info...
The mobs range from 46-48, but are slight undercons, the same as everything else in the mines. When Ykesha first came out I asked a 56 BST for help with the quest. He tryed to help. With him at 56 and me at 45 it took to much effort and mana. Gear has gotten better since then and my 55 BST can somewhat solo in the mines near the entrance, but around lvl 44... I won't count on it.

Go inside the Lighthouse at the end of the dock. You'll find two gnomes sitting at a table, one's a banker, the other sells Drums (the one on the right when you come through the door). The drums sizes are small through giant and are different colors. The color and size of each drum relates to the color and size of the Drogmor it summons.
I have until now been unable to find/kill anything that will help my faction with these little dudes, and raising my charisma from 121 to 162 did absolutely nothing to the price (9449pp and change) of the small black drum I bought. Would love to get these guys to warmly or better!
Hope this helps.

Just want to let all the enchanters out there know that this is a great place to practice your charming skills. I came to the beach at lvl 31 and started charming on the dead side of the beach, awsome. The first couple of times charm lasted the full duration with tash on the pet. It seems that the dead trolls hold better then the skellies. I made it to lvl 34 in 2 days with minimum play. It was awsome to see the exp bar jump up several yellow ticks every single kill, with blue, white, yellow and red cons. Just make sure to have your air illusion on so you can run to the PoK book when in trouble, was able to do this without temp as well.

I have downloaded LoY about 6 months ago and although I can Dye my armour, create a Froglok and have extra bank space I cannot get into the Gunthak zones. Everytime I goto the boat to get in I cannot. I was hoping it would be better when the PoK stone was added, alas I can not use that either. I have been /report(ing) and /petition(ing) for months now and not had ONE reply.
My friend also has the same problem, atm we can only think it is due to where we live(England) If anyone can help on this I'd be really grateful.

I am so glad that eq mentioned this zone as a hotzone it was the only reason i tried it in the first place. After leveling from 35 to 46 in less then week < which given my time schedule to play is phenomonally quick for me > I will never ever go to Dreadlands again. I have been able to solo easily here < cept the tunnels bad place to try > Groups have been very successful. The only negative to the zone is that loot is very very inconsistant but to me if i want Loot its Rathe Mountains im here to level.

I have a 42Beastlord who will want her spell soon. I also have a 65 Druid. I use a power leveling method called "Unmovable Object"
Its simple:
Thorn/ring8/thorncoat (highest level of each.) Pull three to five mobs using only snare and Hand of Ro.
Get bst behind mobs and make sure I hit each one at least once.
Watch exp flow into me like drinks on the weekend.

Now, my question is, will this method work in Nadox or the mines?

My Druid solos very well in those zones....but can I pl?

Stay tuned.
xp is good, loot was poor for me
# Jun 13 2004 at 4:03 PM Rating: Decent
I just leveled my mage from 35 to 39 on the East Beach south of the zone to StoneBrunt. XP was good but the loot seemed very poor to me. Range was from 2 coppers (for a level 36 mob, I'm not kidding) to 5 plat or so. Average seemed somewhere around 6-8 gold or so. This is no better than what I was getting in the Lake of Ill Omen for level 20 Sarnaks and Goblins. Hopefully this is not by design. Maybe I was just lucky, but I couldn't afford to stay any longer and moved on to other zones. Can't afford to pay for spells, much less new equipment, with that rate of return.

I came to this zone recently on a tip from someone that it was a good zone to PL my 30 SK (now 39) with my 56 Shaman. That was one of the best tips I ever got. This zone freakin ROCKS. I can kill undead trolls and outcasts on the beach and only lose about 5% life per kill. After reading everyone's posts about this zone and spending some time here I can agree with every good thing written about it. Now, my question. Where did everyone go!? The only people I see in there now are Anonymous, which can only mean they are pretty high level and don't want to be bothered, or others in their 40's trying to gather the pieces for their LoY spells. No groups in the whole zone anymore. The exp is still awesome, I am getting 1% per kill and leveling about every hour and a half as an Ogre SK with my exp penalty.
If you are on Bertoxxolus and feel like making some uber duber exp come on over and look up Drevanant so we can party, I am getting bored all by myself!
