There is a new zone, Chelsith Reborn, accessible through this zone. You can draw the Chelsith Reborn Portal Activation from Shards Landing for attunement.

The actual click-in shard is located right in the middle of the Sun Revenant pond in the NW part of the zone.

This is one of SoE's "hot spots" as of Aug 05' and has yet to be changed back. 55 Shammy and 55 Ranger dual boxed got pretty good exp here.

Absloutely no lewtz though, but thats ok, as long as the exp keeps on flowing :)

The Grey offers some of the easy qual-kitting you've ever done.

The zone has no air so, you pretend you are in kedge keep.

Enter the zone from either Scarlet Desert or Mons Lethalis. Scarlet zone is on the East side of the zone Mons on the south side. In the very center is the
Ssraeshaz Temple. In the NW of the zone is a small lake with some higher level Undead standing around waiting to be dead-undead (does that make them living?).

If you enter from Scarlet Desert Evac. This will take you to the Mons Lethalis zone. I recommend zoning into Mons Lethalis to bind as it might get messy if you died AFK with no air in The Grey.

The area directly in front of the Mons Lethalis zone belongs to you. The stuff here hardly ever assists and the range is small for one to jump you. If you do get hit by a rock thingie, just root it and go on about your business.

Start by grabbing 4 Timeless Golem, Shissar Stalker, or there are 4 static (quick re-spawn) Iksar Slave at a small idol, just over a small rise NE of the Mons zone.

Immediately to the west of the Mons Lethalis is your quading zone. A nice valley absolutely no roamers.

Grab 4 things, take them over here and kill them.

If you trip a sand trap and some of the pesky sand worms appear, just Evac. The Evac point is within a few feet of where you are working and the worms will usually de-spawn. Plus the mobs you've been quading, will be standing where you left them.

This is a very nice place for some calm leveling and it even has an experience modifer.

*** Try this for something new.... grab any mob, ensnare, then root. Now just sit and apply Droon of Doom from your Elder Spiritist's Vambraces. The mob is dead in about 8 minutes with you only reapplying root and keeping DoD refreshed. You can actually med to full doing this. One I had six mobs parked like this.

Happy Hunting.

Just alittle thoughts and hopefully it might help others looking for polished serpent scales for DoN cultural wood elf smithing.

the other night i spent about 6 or 7 hours near the temple hunting "a shissar revenant" as long as I stayed on the flat sand around the temple say within 100-150yards or so I had no little worms pop up on me which was a blessing not haveing to deal with the adds. The only problem was it took ne that 6 or 7 hours just to get 1 stack of scales built up.

Now tonight I started out with the reverant's and thought to myself why not try the stalkers, so I would keep a eye out and when they wandered close to the no worm zone I would pull them in with my bow. I found on avarage they droped scales alot more often then teh reverants. It might have been my luck I will post back when i get a few hundred kills.

Solo'd this as a 60 beast, 4th pull w/o adds dropped the ore for me.

Couple of things--

Had Virt but I don't think it'd have mattered; w/self buffs I'd likely have been fine.

Pulled to warder--set to guard fairly close to Scarelett Desert zone line. Mobs flee and fast(!) at 20%.

Our Nukes at 60 are somewhat unreliable on the Stone mobs. Most of the time they'd hit, but rarely for full damage--had Frost Spear resisted twice and finally landed for 16 pts. Not the best way to burn down a runner.

You can invis and run around this part of zone w/some degree of confidence. However, there was something that saw through invis--a forgotten slave if memory serves. Pretty sure it was undead.

Also, the trap mobs will spring while you're invised--but won't attack. Nifty way to check the trap mobs and locations.

Stone mobs seem to have a really large aggro radius. I'd step back to about the full distance of my Slow, and would break invis with the cast. A second or two after invis dropped, the mob would start to aggro before Slow landed. Fortunately cast would finish up in time and I'll high-tail it back to warder.

Stone mobs can hit kinda hard, but didn't notice anything unusual, and once slowed, they don't hit fast at all--just be prepared for when they run.

Well... I have an interesting story. I was dinking around in the scarlet desert in scarlet desert with my 54 necro and after a terrible fear kite with 6 adds, i decide to book to zone to lose agro. Well I zone into the grey, and it being late at night I figure i might as well quit. I sit down in the grey, hit /camp desktop and go see whats on the television. When i come back im surprised to find myself sitting naked in pok. I do a little bit of scrolling up and find I died of suffacation. (spelling) IS it the air in this zone or something? Kinda pissed me off, poor me can't even camp out without dying :(

well it's actually the lack of air.

I'm not sure what happened to my old message but here is a new update from my adventures in the grey....

Loot: None

Timeless Golems dropped minor plat (most I got was 6pp and change). Stalkers dropped The scale about 1 in 10 kills and the organs about one in 25.

Exp: For a 57 Shaman regular exp was 1% for 15 kills even though everything but some slaves in the zone was DB, however, aa exp I got 7% from every 10 kills.

I found it easy to solo by pulling to the entrance to Mons or to the little canyon a ways to the left of the entrance to Mons (facing out) while is was in zone (5 hours minus break for new KEI) I saw a total of 3 other people so I wouldn't say this zone is too crowded

Just to sum up some other posts, an Enduring Breath Item that has a WORN effect is a must in this zone.

Don't just run out in this zone. This place has the potential for some insane trains (hehe)

Near as I could tell none of the stalkers, golems, or stonegrabbers could see through invis.

Watch out for the Golem Stun spell .... it can be a pain (but is kind of cool)

Occasionaly the stalkers would use a fire based DD spell on my pet but it never did much damage so I never worried about (just an FYI)

Hope this information helps

I'm a 53NEC and I solo here when I cannot find a group. The Shissar are undead, so that means the pet can tank once they're slowed, and you'll save mana doing it that way. The rock beings are DOTtable once you use something in the Scent line to lower the poison resistance.

You do it in case you fear a wandering mob running up behind you while you are busy with something else. If you are lich'ing for mana and get caught with low health then you will be dead in a hurry.

OK granted this post is old, a year old, Just because a Necro can leach mana doesn't mean it is an effective way of regaining it. Why drop health just to increase mana so you can suck the life off a new mob? KEI/C# is better than leaching yourself. Mana regen is faster and it frees up a few gems spots as well. Plus the advent of mana potions is even faster than necro leach.

I never really embraced the leach/life tap modest operandi, but then again I am a bit of a rebel and prefer my own way of doing things in game.

Kinda like (Druid) quad kiting, snare, dot run around in a circle for twenty minutes, snare and dot again, run some more, try not to add to the pack, watch out for the Ranger practicing his gating skills, far too accident prone.

Root, Dot, Sit, Med, strategy is much better time management and easier on the fingers as well.

Has anyone else noticed this:

If The Grey has no atmosphere, why is the sky blue?

Okay, I'm being nit-picky, but it seems Sony's attention to detail slipped on that one :D

RE: Trivia
# Jul 27 2005 at 4:36 AM Rating: Good
Not only is the sky blue (which requires an atmosphere to scatter light [unless it is a magical illusion or painted on a dome]), but there is liquid water. In a vacuum, liquid water would soon vaporise (though water ice could exist if temperatures are low enough).

I wouldn't say it is inattention to detail, but a lack of concern for basic physics. OK, it's a fantasy world, but still. The designers care enough about things like gravity (falling damage, encumberance) and friction (icy surfaces such as Velk's where you can slip and fall, see gravity).

Maybe the dome (see EQAtlas write-up for Ssraeshza zone) is pressurized with some inert gas, which would allow the liquid water to exist but would still prevent oxygen-breathers from breathing. That must be it. :)

They nerfed this, they nerfed that, I can't solo anymore...blah blah blah. Some people are really disappointing necromancers. This is how I hunt the Shissar Revenants in the Grey...

I prefer the north facing wall of the temple. Your camp consists of the three Shissar Revenants in the North-East corner and the one Golem that is mid-wall facing north. You can then pull from the northern expanse when those four are down. You can pull from other facings too, if not camped.

Here are my spells memorized at 56...

Cascading Darkness
Shackle of Spirit
Invoke Fear
Lich
Bond of Death
<OPEN>
Deflux
Feign Death

THE BREAK

In your open gem place the spell Beguile Undead. Reach out to the revenant camp and charm one of the three taking a dirt nap. If the charm takes, immediately sic him on the others. The two snakes will jump the one charmed. If the Beguile fails, FD and let them go back to spawn point. I have never seen a charm resisted. You either receive the "too high level to be charmed" or a success.

Once you have a Shissar charmed, slow his attackers with Shackle of Spirit. This 70%ish slow will allow your pet to mangle them both and still have about 50% health.

Recast charm as needed. Turn pet on Golem. Snare golem. Wait till pet is at 20% health and then fear golem. Golem will be near death. Once golem dies, and pet is at 20% health or less, Feign. This automatically breaks charm.

Ex-pet returns to spawn point. Stand up and replace Beguile Undead with Invoke Death. Summon your skeletal pet. Replace Invoke Death spell with Augmentation of Death. Buff pet. Pull injured snake with Shackle of Spirit, and your pet will destroy him. Might want to snare last snake so there is no running.

You have broken the 4 spawn camp pretty easy. Respawn time is 18m 10s. I use a stopwatch all the time.

So now you can pull wandering snakes with Shackle and put the pet on him, snare him too.

Wandering golems are pulled with Cascading and then feared, they path to nowhere.

You then can Lich/BoD, Deflux and FD in emergencies, and buff your pet as needed. After the break I never change my gems. I can solo here pretty easily, just need to keep a lookout for trains into the temple and named Shissar. The named are a different strategy.

Best of luck, and may Innoruuk's hate travel with you.

Is this zone ok for a group of 50's? Or is it not worth it? We've tried Maiden's Eye, but either find it not worth killing the mobs there (too many hp, thus using too much mana per kill) or we get killed running across the zone to camp the Akheva dudes :)
RE: Before a group of us get killed here...
# Oct 17 2002 at 11:01 AM Rating: Decent
With a group composed of a 52 druid and an epic enabled 59 shammy, we've never had many problems.. Of course, we've got a very rigid method of rooting, snaring, and dotting.. We've had up to six mobs at once and have never had any problems from what we're doing.. We did get trained once, but it was unannounced and so my death ensued. Outside of that, we typically camp near the Mons Letalis zone in and never have any problems.
RE: Before a group of us get killed here...
# Oct 01 2002 at 1:34 PM Rating: Decent
I've been hunting here off and on for the last couple of weeks with a small group of about 4 of us. Our ranger is 58, the rest of us are low to mid-50's. We have found this zone to be rather interesting, if albeit a little dicey at times. A lot of mobs here have rather large aggro ranges and the boulderlings will dispell speed spells: sow, soe, wolf forms and yes, they DO summon. They are immune to root and snare and they seem to always travel in threes. Hunting around the ssra temple is good, but often all 4 sides are camped. If you can't get that area, try along the right wall as you zone in from SD. That area is often camped as well, but there's usually plenty of mobs for everyone. If you don't have an eb item, GET ONE. And until then, use a timer for your EB spell. You will be amazed how fast you die when it wears off here.

No problem Paladin there to perform a rez. Got my rez and was grateful. Now we have a problem I am in the zone but the screen is black and I look around and I am on the wrong side of the zone. Whoops two steps and now I plummeting to my death.

My strategy for The Grey
# Sep 13 2002 at 3:55 AM Rating: Decent
I am a lvl 60 Druid with 3k mana approximately. What I do is bind in SD at the Grey zone first thing. Then I use Bonds of Force to pull as many mobs as I can find (recasting Bonds of Force ALOT)The rock mobs are a pain, but not as bad as I previously had thought. I can do a full quad of rocks, and another full quad before I run out of mana. I have no AA points or skills as of yet, so even though lvl wise I am 60, I still use spells that are 59 and below (spells are expensive =\ ) If I get too many mobs and I feel I am loosing control, I will pull the mobs passed the SD zone to the little cove and then gate. When I zone back in all my mobs are there ready for me to pull at will. The wurms aren't too bad really even though snare/root don't work. For soloing in The Grey C3 is a must for me. I have been soloing here since level 54, and exp still rocks at 60 doing skelly corner. I can get over a blue an hour here. I am not too choosey about mobs, as long as most of them are blue cons. An EB item is definitely a must here, I hated relying on the spell before I could get a fishbone earring or the Shissar organs. I would def start working on the Amulet of Grey Wastes quest first thing!! (I just finished mine today after 6 levels of killing the Shissars)

Just remember soloing people, gate if things get sticky...the mobs will be ready and waiting, PLUS less trains at the zones for others.

Blessed be,

If you get levitation and invis it makes travel here alot easier. You don't have to worry about anything except the undead that wander around. When entering the zone I run towards the temple a little before heading to the ML zone. There is a group of skele's just to the left of the straight path from SD and if you are off a bit you'll run right into them.

I was just reading the post saying that this zone is now an all out guild raid - It's not for Shaman. Yes, worms cannot be snared/root kited so that means that druids will have a tough time in certain areas around here. Around the temple, where worms rarely add, if you are using slow druid dots to root kite the mobs there you will be spending 10 minutes to kill one mob (lol, I've seen it done).. necros can do ok with this strategy however because their dots have alot of punch. Myself I like to take on the shissar revenants around the temple, I pull with slow sick the doggie on it, root, cripple, epic, and start jbbing. Dead revenant before my epic dot is completed (84 seconds) or at worst on the final tick. This is an awesome zone for exp for shaman. I suspect that there is an exp bonus here.

Yes, you can camp the temple and still get some exp. Revenants, oddly enough, are worse exp than the golems. After May 5th patch they have 'fixed' the rock traps. Now they don't exhaust themselves after they have been triggered 5 or 6 times, and last indefinitely. This makes the quad kiting that druids used to enjoy nearly impossible, once you add the wandering wurms as well.

Yes, being a resilient lad I figured out ways to hunt here regardless of the dangers, but it is becoming crystal clear that Verant is finding new ways to cut the druid off from his domain - the outdoor zone. More and more the Wizard is taking over. Try heading to ME to quad toilers (without KEI) and you will see what I mean.

The zone in to the Grey is a freaking deathtrap. At any given time there could be two to six rockfiends and what not parked right in fron of the zone to SD or Mon Letalis. I tried to clear the mobs away from the zone but some dumbass will train new mobs back there sooner or later. Because of this succor and evac is not safe. The inzone evac spot will drop your wounded party right in front of the mobs camping the land zone. The best thing to do in case of trouble is to gate.
RE: Deathraps.
# May 13 2002 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent
That's the least of the problems - after May 8th patch Verant ruined this zone beyond recognition by making the Xacra Shah/Sei mobile. Not only mobile, but wandering right up to the foot of the temple.

After camping the temple for named before this patch, it is now impossible to solo, and definitely not recommended unless your group has a chanter AND a cleric. The wurms are unsnareable/rootable so its a bust. Just love it when a perfectly good solo zone is turned into an all out guild raid. One less place to get xp...

Yup. The wandering worms in the zone are extremely annoying if not down right deadly when they add at a bad time...which is what they do best. There used to be a certain safe spots near the Revs camp but since the patch the area is now infested with worms. I'm unsure if there is an exp bonus in this zone but there damn well should be.

I just thought i'd post and give you guys a little info about the grey, so here goes... all that I know.

Mobs (not including named)
Golems - Golems are lvl 45 - 46 with most being lvl 45. They run slower than regular run which means they can be kited without sow or snare. Golems have a "proc" called Golemstun that essentially makes you spin really fast and stuns you for about 5 seconds. It makes me dizzy as heck and being an enchanter 5 seconds with a lvl 45 mob pummeling me feels like an eternity.
Shissar - The shissar too are 45 - 46 I usually do not try to charm them so i'm not sure how their levels are distributed.
Shimmering Rockfiend - This guy is bad news. He runs fast, hits hard and aggros from quite a ways out. will also aggro if you are attacking another mob anywhere near him. (He doesn't aggro from as far away as Zelniaks in Mons Seru, but still a bit further than normal)Usually if i get a rockfiend aggrod i try to root him and then zone, sometimes tho trains happen LOL
Various Iksar Skeletons - The interesting things about these, they don't see thru regular invis..which is nice, because i haven't found anything in this zone that does. =) (Note: make sure you con everything, verant likes to change things and not tell anyone =P~)
Worms - There are worms in spawn points under the ground, when you run overthem they will come for you. They proc a 100 pt. AE dd. Flurry of pebbles or something like that. However if you are invisd you'll get the message the sand explodes beneath your feet, but will not aggro a worm.

Loots. Again, regular mobs no named. Golems typically drop between 11 gold and 5 plat. Shissar don't drop money but will on occasion drop a polished serpent scale (have not found a quest yet...sells for around 20pp to merchants) and Shissar Organs No Drop (these are used for a quest in Katta reward is an EB necklace =)) The skeletons drop some change, and to be honest I really don't know about the rockfiend because I can't solo him...yet. =)

Can I hunt in the Grey at XX Lvl?? I first came to this zone when Luclin first opened, I was Lvl 45 at the time and the zone was already pretty busy. I got into a group and got great exp life was good. Then the zone got taken down and brought back up 15 mins later and everything had been made much tougher. Too tough. Verant changed it next patch and made it Tougher but not too tough. As it is now, I would say bring a partner or a group if you're under lvl 49. However you should typically be 50 + to hunt here. I am currently hunting in The Grey at lvl 51 and I'm soloing quite effectively. From what i've seen on Lanys during the day there are about 5 - 7 people in the zone. Usually they range from lvl 57 - 60. At night during peak times there are as many as 25 people in the zone, most of which are fear kiting at the temple area, and none of which need an enchanter LOL.

Strategies?
If you get into a group you can hunt at the Mons Letalis zone line just as you come out into the open area, however you could easily and frequently get trained. You Could go to the right for just a little bit and hunt next to the ML zone, however i've noticed that mobs seem to come to this side more than the left side. My personal favorite spot is to the left of the ML zone, seems like less wanderers and people, yet still close to zone if something goes wrong. I was in a group once by the Scarlet desert zone and that was okay too except the puller had to run a ways to bring back shissar and golems, plus we kept getting worms adding. And finally there's the temple. Groups often form on the sides of the temple and fear kite the mobs there. Which i've watched but never participated in.

Enchanter Info
So, you're an enchanter like me and you want to be in the know? 1. Charm is your best friend. I don't have the lvl 49 charm allure yet, so I cannot charm mobs higher than 45. That is how i know some golems are 46 =P 2. If there's a cleric in the zone, donate for some HP buffs, trust me these guys hit hard. 2b. Trade clarity for sow, if no SoW is availible, you're gonna have a hard time if you pull something other than golems. 3. pull golems if you can, they run so slow, you will not have to root to get a charm off. 4. if you pull adds and want to try them just root and back away and get your new pet as quickly as possible. 5. rockfiends = death, if you aggro one, zone...remember discretion is the better part of valor. and last but not least please always call your trains.

I just thought I'd post an update to my little post above. I went back to the Grey last night in a guild group. I discovered SOME shissar stalkers will see through your invisibility... I was absolutely stunned when our cleric got attacked while invisible... I went out from the ML entrance and conned snakes while invis, I saw 2 snakeys and 1 was scowling, 1 was indifferent. I don't know if that's how you tell which one is 45 and which are 46, or if there was something special with the other shissar. Skeletons will also now see through invisibility. Like they should =P Also as another note our cleric said she was unable to outrun a Sun Revenent with just her Jboots.

Excellent post!

Posts like this is why I pay for the premium service.

Even though I am being a hypocrite with this post, it should be noted by readers/would be posters to stay away from posting garbage that doesnt help anyone else.

No one wants to read "this sword sucks. Save up for a lammy. Its worth the four months it will take to get it..my 60th warrior got one and its awesome. And by awesome, I mean totally sweet" Get with the program people. We need this site to make the sometimes difficult game of Everquest a little easier by sharing valuable insight.

WTG, Scholar Strobius. You are awesome. And by awesome, I mean totally sweet.

Shaman info - None of the regular mobs are very MR. Slows, root, epic dot all land fine. I have yet to get poison on anything even with Malosini. Kinda like fighting Sentient in WL. The snakes and skeles all resist disease as well with Insidious Decay. The rock fiends and golems can be diseased.
Happy hunting

not bad )

the wurms proc is a 50dd. they are hiding under the 'steam plumes' you see in the sand, sometimes there are no plumes where they are hiding. Other random triggers will spawn Stonehand, 3 boulderfiends (unslowable) or 3 boulderlings.
