So im getting board with DL and i was wondering if a 45 sk could get a group here. Im looking for a spot like DL (but a little higher, exp is a little slow now) were there are a large number of people in the zone so finding a group is not ot tough. I hate going to a cool zone and only finding 1 other person.
Dragon crystals?
# Apr 21 2002 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
I have foraged these Lore crystals in Skyfire and I was wondering what they are for? I have searched the website, and I can't find anything. I have Ice dragon crystal, fire dragon crystal, wind dragon crystal, and earth dragon crystal. Sounds like the makings of a quest to me, but from who? For what? Where?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Combine the four crystals to make a Fused Dragon Crystal. These are used in deity-specific tradeskill recipies for those worshipping Veeshan.

Can a 51 druid solo here?
18 spells in one day soloing
# Mar 21 2002 at 6:42 PM Rating: Excellent
This may be common knowledge to some, but after spending several hours in Skyfire getting spells to drop became as routine as it could possibly get. Averaged maybe 1 in 5 kills got me a spell. Some kills had more than one on them.

Just park yourself between the BW zone and the graveyard. Hunt only named (even easier if you have track). By named I mean the following (there is ALWAYS only one of these up. Killing one spawns another. Sometimes the same mob 3 times in a row, it's random):

a soul devourer
a wurm spirit
a wandering wurm
Guardian of Felia
Black Scar
Felia Goldenwing (careful with her, nasty druid - uncommon)

These mobs are placeholders for each other, and you have a much better chance of getting a spell drop than other mobs in the zone. Also, pulling from the graveyard lanes to the pocket before BW zone give you plenty of room with no adds. It's threading them out of the lane that can be tricky.

As a 55 Druid these solo no sweat. All I used is Winged Death, ensnare, root and my ES Vams. Leaves me plenty of mana for when the next one pops within 60 seconds.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 27 2002 at 12:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No offense but this is the primary problem with spell drops in SKyfire. There is always some druid going after the named spawn. He uses low level non mana equipment and knows exactly when they will spawn because he just took 10 mins to kill the last one. A normal group would take one min to kill a named and pop another. I have seen it every time I go.

Don't fault people for doing their homework on a zone, there is plenty enough for everyone here, IF you know where to go.

DRUIDS EAT YOUR HEART OUT

I am lvl 58 Necro and I can out do any Drooood in the zone. With Demi Lich and Slime boots = NONSTOP pulls. I have my fear timed out and can kill a nemed mob solo in less than 4 minutes. And as for tracking, LMAO some druid got pissed cuz I was out pulling him as a Necro and when he asked if I had Radar to the Named, I said no I had "Bonedar". He thought it was real and took 5 minutes before sending a tell back with a laugh. Either way I can out pull the named mobs !

No offense but we druids don't know when they spawn. We do know how to find and hunt them.

As for the named fellows, there are several that drop spells.

Wandering Wurm
Spirit Wurm
An Old Wurm
A Mature Wyvern
A Mature Chromadrac
Guardian Of Fillia (Wyvern)
Faierie of Dismay (Chromadrac)
Soul Devourer
etc...

The biggest problems are most hunt near BW zone line so there is a lot of compatetion for the few of these that spawn near there.

The best bet is to move along the edge of the zone and find a spot to hunt from.

Personally I found a spot with a LOT of these off to the left of the druid port in location -- second hill into the mountain.

From there, I just pull to me and drop them with root, DOT technique.

Nobody ever comes to where I am hunting and the quantity of "named" spell droppers is extensive so every single pull I can get one and see several a slight distance from me as I am fighting.

Again, biggest problem seems to be the compatition between those that "feel safe" near BW so won't budge and just get mad when others seem to have better "luck" with their hunting.

I've been hunting here like crazy this week, to get my spells. In the past three days, I have easily collected 30 spells. Three of which were 58th level.

Also, I steadily feed on the named/PHers most of the time, and have yet to be summoned by any of them. Decent XP, Decent PP/Gems/MoneyItems, Decent Spells.

Nothing summoned... and I can kill them and after they die still have FULL mana (/hug epic)..

Have they changed it so that only "Old" and above creatures summon? I didn't have ANY summoners the whole day/night... others are telling me the same thing...

Info on zone
# Aug 24 2001 at 5:54 AM Rating: Excellent
This zone is important for several reasons. First, it is not crowded. It offers level 49-58 casters and druids a place to solo and get spells. There are also two named cycles of mobs similar to TT, but much more difficult. The rewards are spells instead of armor here.
Named mobs: a wandering wurm, a shadow drake, Black Scar, Guardian of Felia, Felia Goldenwing, a wurm spirit, a soul devourer, Faerie of Dismay. There can only be two of any of the nameds up at any time, and they are sometimes hard to find. Any of the nameds can be on either cycle. One cycle has a 30-sec delay of respawn, other has about a 1 min respawn delay. The nameds drop spells more frequently and more rare in nature. I have had the best luck with Felia and Faerie of Dismay for really rare drops, having seen Call of the Hero drop 4 times, 54 Mage rogue water pet drop 4 times, and 58 enchanter Bedlam (nuke) once. Just hunting the nameds, I average 2 spells an hour.

Best way to pull is to have a tracker and use invis to get to the mob. At 56 Ranger, I can pull any of the nameds from anywhere by being invis, waiting until it's clear around me, then shooting an arrow using a long-range bow and then running to the BW zone. Then you can kill them however ya like, although fear-kiting is recommended. Good to have a necro or chanter to do the fearing while ya have rogue pets and fast-melee like monk/ranger/rogue whittling them away from behind. Snare is a must. Chromos suck with the AE dispel/dot, but they can't do it while they are feared, so it's good to overfear them by recasting every 15 secs or so to reset the fear timer for them.

Zone also has 2 annoying parts to epics (monk not included because any of the nameds can drop the Immortals book). Eldrig the Old is required for bard epic. He is not on the named cycles, just a rare mob. He is a chromo, always level 51 and a pain in the butt because he summons. Best to kill him using a bard with fear song and a necro or chanter for backup fear after ya sic pets on him. Felia is needed for enchanter epic and is a really tiny chromo that is a really rare spawn. She is attacked by some of the mobs in the zone, so her life is usually short as is. The Guardian of Felia is supposed to somehow be tied into "protecting" her, but I am not sure how. She is a very tricky pull when she spawns because she tends to hang around a lot of mobs, and she has to be led back to a safe spot for a chanter to charm her and turn in an item to her.

Old wurms, mature wurms, mature wyverns and the other higher level mobs near VP are good about dropping rare spells as well, 55+. Guilds can get spells from these guys mini-raids on them by pulling to a semi-safe spot and doing tank/debuff/healing fights vs kiting.

Hope this helps.

Well, personally i love this zone. As hunting here from 50-56 as a necro and 53-60 as a druid i can tell ya that this place has it's ups and downs. Probably the worst downs are the faction. I can not run through dreadlands anymore or even go past the tunnel without being beaten by the gorenaire stick. i can get agroed by her from VERY VERY far away, its a constant annoyance. You also have to be careful here because mobs go whereever they want, so running along the wall doesn't always mean you're safe. Other things to note are 'a guardian wurm', 'an ancient wyvern', and most of all 'Talendor'. all are lv60, i have been attacked and mooshed by all except ancient wyvern, talendor casts an incurable dot, fun fun. he also has a large agro range and usually if you can see him he'll be on you.

Also since alot of you soloers are wondering what summons out in that big bad dragon world..

Talendor (100%)
Ancient Wyvern (100%)
Guardian Wurm (100%)
Elder Wyvern (95% of the time in my experience)
Skyfire Drake (80% of the time in my experience)
Shadow Drake (30% of the time in my experience)
A Lava Walker (70% of the time in my experience)
Eldrig the Old (100% of the time in my experience)

Theres probably more, just that i don't remember everything =)

For all you reverse kiters, there's a place with a giant dragon skeleton of some kind by the HUGE fire lake in which the pathing just takes the mob back and forth in a very small area. In one of my few groups there we were soloing 2-3 at a time just constantly fearing em.

Since you might be wondering if indeed spells come from here alot..here's my totals as each char.

Necro - 4
Druid - 615

Be warned that the wurm type of creatures have a HUGE melee range. to check the current health of a mob i have to go into melee range, and with a mob that hits for 162 and me with 1485 health it really gets difficult.

One more thing i'd like to pass along, since this is gettin rather long. Some people have mentioned pulling to overthere zone inside the little temple thing that leads to overthere. I wouldn't suggest it. As someone mentioned mobs wander near the temple entrance, and also if people get trains which is quite likely you will have to deal with it, and they will have to deal with your pulls which often results in a messy corpse recovery. So i ask of you not to pull inside the temple, it's too big of a hazard to yourselves and to others.

Not quite true. Eldrig the Old still summons--got summoned 3 times in the fight with him last night. A 56 necro and I beat him relatively easily, just pulled with Malosi, then Turgurs, and then sent in pets while necro snares and fears. Use JBB or best DoTs u have and it goes down fairly easy. Eldrig is always level 51 as far as I know and Ive seen him summon quite a bit.

Thanks to all who replied. I have since found that this is indeed the same sapphire used in jewelcraft. At that time, I had not seen the "magic item" tag on a sapphire before, or I had not even noticed it. I have since hunted here quite frequently of late and have had numerous gem drops, in addition to numerous Enchanter research pages for level 44 & 49. Such a shame though, I have all of them but I'm really looking for the higher spells. Oh well...

# Mar 29 2001 at 9:14 AM Rating: Default
I too have been trying to understand what the crystals are for. I have also noticed that there are 4 dragon statues in Skyfire as well, each holding a globe representing the same thing as the globes that are foraged.

I tried using the globe to click on the globes the dragons held but nothing. I also tried all over the dragon as well.

If the two are related I am not sure how but I am still working to see if they are. If anyone has any guesses or clues, post them here.. maybe we can work on this together.

I wasn't able to try using the foraged globes, since I had left them in the bank and they are LORE, but I did notice that when you click on the big globes it say "You are too far away move closer" (or something similar).

Seems to me that there must be something in it, since that on'y happens for doors etc that you can interact with.

I'll bring the forgaed orbs next time and try whatever I can think of

Hi, I create a level 1 Troll Warrior to see how far I could get into Kunark. Well... the answer is Skyfire Mountains. If I could have found the door to Veeshan's Peak, I would have knocked on it.

I had a SOW through most of the Overthere but the rest I ran without the aid of magic (just lots and lots of luck (and skill!)).

;)

When I /ooc'd "who's Talendor?" I was laughed at and warned to run away. So I did. When I was surrounded by Wurms on all sides of me. I stood real still. When I saw an opening I ran. It wasn't really that big of a deal.

I'd NEVER do that with my primary character, but he's a bard and can run really fast- why not try? Oh yeah... corpse recovery. *shudders*

I have seen Skyfire - and it is hot and lava-y. ick.

I'm wondering if these are associated with the Foraged Crystals. The chests seem near the Dragon statues. It will be interesting to see if there are 4 chests in zone.

1) Try handing crystal to chest.
2) Try turning chest, and handing crystal to stopped globe at dragon statue.
3) Use two people, one to stop globe and one to hand crystal to chest.
4) Try turning all chests simultaneously.
5) Try various permutations, at the various statues. etc.

Interesting phrase in one of the dropped books in zone, "breathing life into their husks". Wonder if quest triggers a dragon?

Everything here except the Bottemless xxx(sperms) resist fire. Groups of necros and druids can do very well here, with fear/snare. Common stuff here hits very very hard(up to 149) and is not something a caster would want to face. The spell drop rate I would say is one spell per 100 mobs which is not that bad and not too good since it takes a lot to take something down. Near the zone 51-55 spells will drop. But from elder stuff higher level spells can drop. Ancient Wyvern will drop 59/60 spells. Chromodracs DO AE dispell. And the zone usually gets very crowded with them because no one likes to kill them. If you got a good group you should kill them(but keep them snared/feared so they dont dispell)and chromo's have little hp generally. If you are a druid the chances of you porting in and landing on something is about 25% I would say. But I think its way more dangerous for wizards. I saw 5 wurms just standing on their pad. I am not sure but there is a way to pull a summoning mob without getting summoned while you are bringing it to your party. If you pull with a spell that does no damage(such as dispell or snare) the mob wont summon you. But I am not sure since I heard of people getting summoned anyway. Oh yeah some stuff doesnt see invs. I think the drakes and the sperms...wurms do see invs.

I have found a good strategy for use, as a pet caster, in this zone: Go to The Overthere zone area and then, facing out into Skyfire, hang a right and go about 1000 paces. Forgot actual /loc but it's not too far from the zone while still being well within reach. Grab a druid and a cleric friend. Call an air or water pet (prefer water for backstab). Have the druid pull with snare. Wait till the mob gets to the camp then send the pet in. Let it tank until pet is about on quarter HPs left, then have the cleric Fear. Keep it feared until it's dead. Rinse and repeat.

Good idea is that once the mob is feared (it will run to your right BTW) that the whole group move up a bit and med while the pet beats on the mob and strolls by your makeshift med spot. Found this to be quite effective. Once done, CH the pet, med up and go again.

sound insane? it is, but it works well. a lvl 40-46 group functions WELL inside skyfire. group mix was 2 warriors 1cleric 1ranger 1enchanter 1mage

over the course of 2 hours, we made about 100 plat and had 2 spell drops. we fought at the overthere zone - which actually works quite nicely, despite the post entitled caster heaven. i don't recommend trying this unless your group really knows how to work together, but if you do, it is fairly easy. boring though - al you do is sit inside the building containg the overthere zone line and wait on the puller. however, the xp is fairly nice, and its just somewhere new to try out.

i know it sounds insane at the lvl range i'm talking about, but with a well functioning group you CAN take the lower lvl mobs. wurms and wyverns aren't a problem, even though they hit hard.

We have been going to Skyfire for the past week or so. About every two hours or so we seem to get a spell drop off of a random creature. The exp rate is low but the spells drops are nice, and just often enough to keep the casters panting.

We have fought at the Wiz teleport spot, the druid teleport spot and then once out on the plain. The teleport spots appear to be the safest, but not many mobs within range. Our favorite is out on a large flat area where we can see stuff coming.

If mobs begin agroing on you for no reason, campout and come back. Some mob got pissed at you and is spreading the word. Campout and when you relog it should be fine.

Our experience with mobs have been most are high 40's with some in the low 50's(summoners). Chromodrakes make the buffers life hell as they AOE dispel. Lvls seem to follow naming, Elder, Mature, and then just plain mob name.
