Karnor's Castle, home to the evil Iksar vampire Venril Sathir and his countless minions, sits modestly in the middle of the Dreadlands. Its heavy mob population and single exit can make for some pretty impressive trains, so keep a lookout while resting near the zone-out.

Karnor's Castle

OK, I have a question, and these are real newbie questions, because I've only been here to run from trains in The Dreadlands.
1. Do 50 + Spells drop here?
2. Is 49 a good time to hunt here?
3. Is this a good place to hunt? Half the people says its not even worth it to zone in, the others say that it is the coolest zone ever.

Yes this is a great zone, i've been fighting here since about level 46ish and have been getting great xp, no spells don't drop here, try Skyfire for that, and 49 is perfect for this zone, don't get intimidated by all the high levels, i found myself outdamaging a few of the 50+ at level 47...

Hope this helps

No kidding. Would the fact that you're a rogue have anything to do with you doing more damage?

A word about Faction
# Jul 12 2001 at 11:18 AM Rating: Excellent
If you are an evil race and use the OT Outpost for banking, you have probably already heard that killing things KC will wreck your faction there. This is basically a true statement and goes for some other Kunark dungeons as well.
The faction you are concerned with is VENRIL SATHIR.
The thing to keep in mind is that only certain things in this zone carry that faction. All the Drolvargs in the first tower are on this faction. The mobs in the Skelly Tower across the second bridge don't tend to be on this faction, even the Drolvarg Sentry's. Obviously, ol' Venril himself does; so does the undead jailer.
So, if you have built up a good faction at the Outpost, I am amiable there, and want to keep it at least indifferent so it's a good spot to bank, use the vendors, etc. Just be careful how much you kill in the front part of this zone. The fastest way to wreck your faction is to camp the Drolvarg Capt. About 4 - 5 hours there will bring you from amiable down to apprehensive.
Just remember to /con stuff and see if it is on your faction. That way you can use your 'Gate Hammer' if you have gotten one and bank at the Outpost without any worries.

I really want to camp the Caller of Sathir for the cobalt boots for my twink warrior. Im am gnome necro and right now the oupost is indiff with me. By the time im high enough to hunt here (with guildies etc) i will probably be amiable. It probably does, but does your faction go down by killing the caller of sathir?

Ticoran, Guru.. You forgot to mention Fist of Zek, the Uber rare drop off the Skelly Captain. I has been confirmed by Everlore not to drop anymore, but apparently is still dropping, as I looted one 3 days ago.
Stats are: Fist of Zek, Warrior only 1HB, STR +20, HP +25, AGI -20, CHA -10, 16/30.
This weapon rocks for off hand, suitable for small races warriors, as the extra STR comes in handy indeed, while the minus agility only retracts 4-5AC. According to Allakhazam, Everlore & Castersrealm, this bad baby's worth 25-30k.
I'm selling mine for 20k in cash on Bertoxx atm. If you're intrusted to buy it, just gimme a tell, name's Summoneaa, I'm always online around 4-9pm EST. Cash only please. ;)

Quick repost of my post in bestiary, since some of you appear to not be reading it....

Karnor's Castle

Rare Item Mobs
Skeletal Scryer
Common: Jasarth Scale Gauntlets
Uncommon: Deepwater Gauntlets, Jasarth Trident
Rare: Locustlure
Spawn: He spawns in the basement, and then leaves it and heads into the moat, through the water tunnel on the right side. He will often go near the right moat, so they usually can claim him in that spawn spot. He also can spawn in the 2 spawns outside the second castle, or in the right courtyard.

Drolvarg Captain
Common: Drolvarg Mantle
Uncommon: Cobalt Gauntlets, Jade Mace
Rare: Lupine Dagger
Spawn: He spawns in the first castle, upstairs. Any of the drolvargs up there can be his placeholder. An interesting thing of note is that his damage per hit is affected by which item he carries. Its typically 142 or 147, I forget which ATM, when he's got the Drolvarg Mantle. If he doesn't hit for that at all during the fight, or hits for higher, he has something else. All his drops are very valuable, excluding the mantle.

Sentry of Sathir
Common: Jasarth Scale Helm
Uncommon: Jaundiced Bone Gauntlets, Bone Amulet of Blade Turning
Rare: Swarmcaller
Spawn: Can spawn anywhere Sentries of Sathir spawn. Typically spawns in the left courtyard and the well room just behind it. Never in the right courtyard or before the second castle however.

Caller of Sathir
Common: Kunzar Cloak
Uncommon: Cobalt Boots, Nature's Wrath
Rare: Sionachie's Partisan
Spawn: About the same as Sentry of Sathir. Spawns anywhere Callers of Sathir can spawn, and mostly they have the spawn spot same as Sentries. They seem more common in the well than sentries however.

Skeletal Warlord
Common: Jasarth Scale Bracer
Uncommon: Deepwater Boots, Dwarven Sap
Rare: Tranquil Staff
Spawn: Can spawn anywhere in the castle, then roam, but usually he doesn't. He most often spawns in the jail outside Drolvarg warlord... Not to be confused with jail in basement.

Skeletal Captain
Common: Sarnak Hide Mask
Uncommon: Tolan's Darkwood Gauntlets
Spawn: This guy is very rare. He spawns on the parapets, but since there are only 2 spawns up there.... well, that makes his appearance rare. And most of the time nobody kills those two spawns.

Skeletal Berserker
Common: Jasarth Scale Chestplate
Uncommon: Jaundiced Bone Boots
Rare: Deathbringers Rod
Spawn: Usually in one of the four spawns on either side of the well room, one in the left CY by the stairs and the other in the alcove in well.

Hangnail
Always: Elder Spiritist Gauntlets
Spawn: In the Cursed Hand Room. Nowhere else.

Knight of Sathir
Common: Wand of Souls
Uncommon: Ogguk Cleaver
Spawn: Usually is phed by the spectral knight knight that roams in orb room *also called Arena*, but he also spawns in the 3 rooms on the first level, excluding Venrils, and most frequently in the room on the second level *tier*.

Construct of Sathir
Common: Helm of Rile
Uncommon: Blood Ember Gauntlets???, Fang Amulet of Calling
Rare: Polished Obsidian Great Axe???
Spawn: Usually in Hand room, but he can also occasionally spawn in the left CY. Any hand is his ph, one can sometimes spawn by the door in the left CY.

Drolvarg Warlord
Common: Supple Scale Armband
Uncommon: Donal's Boots of Mourning
Rare: Noctivagent Blade
Spawn: In the Warlord room, just down the stairs from the jail. Jail is down the hall from hand room.

Drolvarg Pawduster
Always: Metal Pipes (For Robe of the Whistling Fist quest)
Spawn: In the hand room, he can either spawn in place of a bodyguard, or in the place of the Warlord. I am unsure which. Probably either.

Undead Jailer
Common: Jasarth Scale Leggings
Uncommon: Mrylokar's Boots
Rare: Baton of Faith
Spawn: He can spawn anywhere in the basement jail, or in the regular jail outside Warlord. Be warned, the basement jail is huge.

Undead Caretaker
Common: Jasarth Scale Sleeves
Uncommon: ??
Rare: ??
Spawn: This mob is easily the rarest mob in Karnors, more so than Venril Sathir in fact. He spawns inside the Verix Kylox's remains room, and just before that room, is 4 decayed. Then in verix room, there is verix ph, this guys ph, and 3 more decayed. Breaking this room usually is done with a full party of 60s after Verix's VP key part.

Spectral Turnkey
Common: Jasarth Scale Boots
Uncommon: Mrylokars Gauntlets, Book of the Obulus
Rare: ??
Spawn: He can spawn just about anywhere in the basement jail. Really, the uncommons off him is really common, just a bit less so than JS Boots.

Verix Kylox's remains
Always: A piece of medallion
Spawn: In his room in the basement. Really hard to describe where.

Common Mobs - Drops

Drolvarg Sentry - Elder Spiritist Vambraces
Drolvarg Guardian - Singing Steel Boots

Spectral Caller - Howling Harpoon
Spectral Curate - Springwood Club
Spectral Knight - Sword Breaker
Spectral Protector - Blackjack

Cursed Hand - Donal's Gauntlets of Mourning

Skeletal Guardian - Singing Steel Gauntlets

Venril Sathir - Big Boss
Drops all legs, a variety of useless 2hb caster staffs, a Gnarled Wooden Staff for the wizard epic.

Venril Sathir's remains - Ranger/Druid epic thing
He spawns about 12 hours after Venril Sathir dies. Ranger or druid uses the level 9 *RNG* / level 1 *DRU* spell to summon a lightstone like thing, and give it to the remains. He respawns immediately, aggro, and you kill him to get the stones. I believe its 2 per kill.

The Drolvargs do NOT see through Invis/Camo, but all of the Undead skellies, spectres, etc. do.

The front part of the castle is mostly Drolvargs though, with more Undead types as you go further in.

Advice on where to camp at what lvls
# Apr 13 2001 at 5:15 PM Rating: Good
Being in karnors for a while, you start to get an idea of which camps are best for which lvls. To start off, there are the moats or zone group, this can be any where from the lowest lvls of karnors, about 47 to low 50s, i would say 53 max, some 54s. There is a large range of mobs since you pull all the way up to the ST and get some named mobs. Next camp site is the dog tower, this is recommended for lvls 49-54, bring an enchanter, like most camps, because adds are common due to the tight space and frequent spawns. You fight mostly sentrys, some guardians, and rare captains, sentrys get green at 55. After DT is cleared, you pull up to ST. Next camp site is ST or skeletal tower. This is recommended for 49-55, enchanter and cleric must be on the ball, adds are often, and things hit hard, also keep mobs away from the side and yourself as you or the mob will fall off the tower. A lot of named and good loot, exp isn't as good as dog tower though. Next camp site is the hand/warlord, things here hit hard, got to have a cleric on the ball. Recommended lvl 51-56 for this camp. Good exp here i'm told, and a lot of named spawns. Last camp is sewers, lvl 52-57, a scary place, farthest away from the zone, a lot of named, i've only seen the sewers, never grouped there, but requires the highest lvls in the zone, and definate good chanter and tanks.

Just an aside comment. For my first entrance into Castle, well the first that actually got into a fight, I was a 47 cleric with max wisdom of 175. We started with the dog tower, then the skeleton tower, then finally into the hand room, pulling the War Lord room also. At the ST one member had to leave and a 52 cleric took his spot. Naturally I, now all ready scared sh*tless, let her make all the clerical decisions, and saw how my targetting for an inc heal, and target getting *heal would be nice for all clerics to use. But in the hand room, even with two clerics, death can happen! That has got to be the most active room in the place. Hands were everywhere, spectres, some ghost thingies, dog thingies, bunchs of stuff. Please, though it was fun, take your newbie 47 cleric to a tower and/or courtyard and let him get used to some things before you plop him on his butte and tell him to med. Also, please make sure, when it is time to leave, you cast sow on his wrinkled trousers and have someone follow him out. Remember! We do not often get to roam a dungeon, so our only knowledge is that first entrance and the frequent times everyone seems to mill around getting my sense of direction all messed up. They would not let my last name be Everlost, but Tremulous does seem to fit nicely when I end up all alone in the middle of a dungeon with ghosts, dogs, and who knows what all else is lurking out of sight!

Actually, if you are in a moat, DT, or ST camp, this guy may be pulled, he spawns in the left courtyard, but has aggroed me when i was at the second bridge, he is fairly easy to pull. You can porbably get into a zone or moat group at around 47, DT group at 49, ST group at 50. He is a rare spawn though, and drops tranquil staff very rare.

Jarsath drops here and is no drop. If you are of sufficient level to live through the dreadlands and get here I've seen many a jarsath gloves and what not go rotting. The gloves are pretty okay for a cleric or something. The legs are downright nice, higher ac than the cleric quest armor and plus 5 wis. Shamans can wear too. This stuff looks great on iksars but like regular banded kind of on others.

My group had the gloves go rotting from pulls just inside of karnors. If you go in and ask nicely (no spamming) someone would probably tell you where some dropped. Not sure where the legs drop but friend told me while their group was doing the spawn 2 pairs went rotting.

A question:

Someone mentioned that you have a good chance of seeing all of the Jarsath Armor pieces drop if you hang out by the moat area and have patience. Is this true? Or would you have to go to the spawn points for some of the armor pieces? Some of those spawn points are far inside the zone. Just curious...any clarification would be appreciated.

I haven't fought much in karnors, but this same thing happens in guk, and it can be very annoying, when newbies run to the assasin room, and hang around there, begging to loot the mask, just as long as they stay out of the way, and never aggro anything, i dont care, good for them, but sometimes they come in their, and aggro the mobs, and can cause a lot of harm to us, they also sometimes are jerkoffs and spam the hell out of us with annoying crap. Just do us a favor, and either be prepared, or get your own armor.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 10 2000 at 3:04 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If you cant kill it, dont loot it! Don't be a lamer and go begging for high level stuff that you could never get on your own, Geez man have a little self-respect. Besides if you go in their at low level all your gonna do is get in the way, aggro mobs that kill you in 2 hits and **** off the Clerics by begging for a rez all the time. Do yourself a favor and stay out unless your high enough to group!

On the subject of newbies and low level characters that have alternates that are much higher levels, it would seem that their actions would give that away. A newbie might not understand aggro and his/her effect to other players playing in a zone/dungeon and need, as I still often do, instruction and guidance from more experienced players. Newbies unwilling to take that instruction, given compasionately, deserve to be reviled. But I do not think newbies that are simply unaware of how their actions are annoying or threatening deserve vile treatment. Obviously a player with a 60 character should know better and be the example for other low levels to emulate. Just my humble opinion mind you.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 28 2001 at 10:46 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Self-respect? Where the hell does that play if a freakin GAME? What do you think this is real life? If people wanna loot some no drop armor then let them who the hell cares? If they spam or train ya then ***** and cry but don't go tryin to make standards for other people in a game they pay for. Don't be ***** either if someone asks nicly to loot the stuff. You never know who that lvl 24 iksar shaman is, he may also have a lvl 50+ cleric who will repay your kindness some where down the road. All in all, if we just try and be a little more friendly to each other in this game, maybe just maybe we wont have as many ********. But what are the odds of that?

If you're high enough to be hunting in Karnor, and you have good enough loot to not care about picking up the Jarsath, you really ought to let someone else benefit from it.

My girlfriend ran her shaman twink over to Karnor, and she does fit the possible scenario that someone else described... her primary is a high level cleric (who does maintain a no-rez list).

This game has been out long enough that you can't judge the experience levels of players based upon the character they're currently logged in as. Wouldn't it be nice if we all played the game with the attitude that everyone else had a level 60 cleric with their epic rez stick? I bet we'd all have a lot more fun, eh?

jarsath armor as "free" good armor...
# Sep 12 2000 at 2:06 PM Rating: Default
I just wanted to say that you have to be at least 30 to go there without risking your life and other people's. Let me explain. Once i saw a level 8 iksar shaman inside Karnor, begging rather loudly for "free jarsath". Of course Jarsath drops very often in Karnor, so that player heard a shout about a piece of jarsath in dog tower. He went there, and because he was very low level he agroed monsters so far that the tower was filled with 9 things, including a scryer and a curate that must have come from the water. All people in tower except the puller died, and so did the newbie.
What i wanted to say is that even though jarsath armor seems to be good and free for newbies, Karnor itself is a deadly place under level 30. Travelling through the dreadlands is already dangerous even with sow, and sow+invis wont prevent a train inside Karnor (since half of the mobs are undeads).
Begging for armors can be tolerated, as long as people dont start shouting every 5 mins for it. But everyone under 40 that goes inside Karnor should be aware that only the entrance is accessible to newbies. If the dungeon is crowded left and right ledge can also be considered "safe", but if anything pops on you you re either dead (red casters tend to succeed in rooting you...:-), or you re starting a train that can threaten someone else in the zone (especially with the stupid pathing in this zone that will sometimes send the mobs who agroed on you to left or right ledge groups...)
Jarsath armor is a nice armor for newbies (and jarsath legs are as far as I know the best legs for shamans before the jaundiced bone legs...), but it s silly to rush to karnor at low levels just for it.
RE: jarsath armor as
# Sep 23 2000 at 1:11 AM Rating: Default
As a 22 shaman the jarsath armor is very nice, but if you go to Karnor's except to die a few times. the best thing that I have found in sit in left or right moat with a group camping there, stay out of there way, and ALWAYS ask before looting anything. infact have them tell you. You need to be patient, but it's also a good way to make friends. Karnor's and DL is incredibly dangerous if you don't know what your doing, and if something pops on you, just die. No matter what you will anyways, and imho the armor is worth a few bubs. =)

Heya,

Mostly we have hunted the Drolvarg Captain in Karnors. Great experience and fairly safe.

We hunted from the far side of the Captain area, and usually were able to handle the areas spawns with an eight minute window to pull the occasional available spawn outside the Captain area.

The Captain can spawn in any of the spawn points in the area, static or wanderer. Hunting from the far side of the area avoided extra mobs from people trying to pull past you to the moat or wherever.

Running across the interior bridge is a bad idea, agroed mobs below you will come find you. Pull around the edges and avoid moving on the interior bridge.

Please be kind to others and announce to the zone when pulling across either bridge so as to retain your pulls and not agrivate others.
