Charasis was built by the Kunzar Tribe shortly after the Shissars were driven out of Kunark. It is the birthplace of Venril Sathir and is where he planned his war against the other Iksar tribes, a war which saw to the formation of the Sebilisian Empire under Venril's leadership.

Charasis was entombed soon after the fall of the Empire and is presently occupied by a large number of undead, including the spirit of Venril's one-time companion, Drusella.

Charasis, also known as The Howling Stones, is located in the middle of the chasm in The Overthere, and is guarded by several Venril Sathir-aligned scorpikis.

Level 46 is required to enter the zone without a key on the live servers.
Everyone can enter the zone with a key.

Drussel Sathir's rare drop
# Apr 03 2001 at 9:57 PM Rating: Default
Happens to be Ventril's Phylacrety. Lore, magic, nodrop, none/none listed for classes that can use, same exact icon as the gold onyx pendant made with jewelcrafting.

Any info on what this is for would be greatly appreciated.

You need to kill Chancellor Di'Zok (approx lvl 40 shammy)in LIO and get the "Jade Chokodai(sp) Prod". Then you need to venture to Kaesora and kill the boss of that dungeon, Xalgoz (approx lvl 40 Necromancer w/o pet) and get the Xalgozian fang from him. Then you turn it in to some froglok in Swamp of No Hope, who's name I am unsure of, as I have yet to do this quest. For mroe info on the quest, click on the quests section of this site, and enter "Charasis Key" as the search word.

Does anyone have any idea of her spawn time?

RE: Warriors here
# Sep 06 2000 at 5:42 AM Rating: Default

Plenty of damage dealers are required - We went in with 2 warriors, a monk, a rogue, a shadowknight, an enchanter, 2 clerics, a necro, a wizard, a shaman and a druid - we did pretty well. As has already been said, Enchanter(s) are essential, Rogue(s) are essential, and I would say that at least one, or better two feign death pullers are a must. At your level, don't count on getting far into the zone with any less than two full groups, and in my opinion, the average level should be 50.

It isn't a zone for pickup groups, or to go into on spec - it really has to be organised beforehand. The backspawn is so rapid that if you zone in, and your prospective group(s) are deep in the east wing, you have little or no chance of getting to them, (and they won't be happy about coming back to the zone to pick you up, then have to fight their way back in).

45 is pretty much the minimum level for this zone, higher is better - but yes, I reckon you would get some pretty insane experience in here.

Being a pally and often in groups without chanter I do extensive crowd control with root parking. Even Mobs that can summon can be root parked, just make sure not to damage them before parking them and he will not summon!

A few of your comments are a tad off.

I like your comment at the end, that you prefer the warrior over the pally when you don't have a chanter. Who is going to do the root parking, your cleric or maybe a shaman that already will be the fan of all mobs with the slow?

Our clerics are skilled and sometimes root park but not when you want to push the envelop with the team and have to rely on CH to get the max efficiency out of the clerics.

If you root park and want to avoid the damage of the mob you will be too far out to benefits from the AoE of the skyfire and in a tight fight you only want to fight singles or you are wasting energy.

Just some comments I had to get off.

hehe, glad I ain't clericing for this guy.... spend way too much mana rezzing him
RE: Warriors here
# Oct 25 2000 at 8:15 PM Rating: Default
2 Problems i see with this...
1) In Sebilis, at least (i havent been very deep in Chardok or Charasis), many things summon you....and if you want to root something that can summon you, go right ahead....
2) Going into Sebilis, Chardok, or Charasis with an entire group of sub 50's means the tanks are taking more damage, while the clerics have less mana and no rememdy, and the nukers are resisted more...thus, it *might* be possible...with twice the number of people.

And finally, if you are lvl 46, why not stop complaining here, and start leveling instead?
RE: Warriors here
# Sep 12 2000 at 2:59 AM Rating: Default
With such a fast backspawn, it's clear that all damage must be done by tanks, the casters are here to control crowd (enchanter), debuff (enchanter again and shaman), and heal (cleric).
Then, warriors are really useful there, but anyone able to tank a debuffed mob while a rogue is making heavy damage is good. I'd say warrior first, their AC and HP then at higher level defensive discipline give much efficiency to the complete heal spell.
No feign puller is needed, the rogue can sneak pull and split faster in this dungeon than any feign puller could. At least in north, west, and south wings, the rogue can explore everything without being seen (best for CR there too).

This is what all my rogue friends have been waiting for. This is THE rogue zone. Do not attempt to even go in without at least one rogue.

I reccomend 2, maybe 3.

Finally, we get to see a dungeon according to the Verant "vision".

We went in with 17 people tonight and went through jsut the north wing (this was our first trip and we moved a bit slow to get the feel for the zone).

We are heading back tomorrow night and plan on moving through the entire dungeon verant style, and taking down Drusella.

On zone in you will face two mobs. Usually 2 skeles. Be warned, the skeletal sepulchers are SK's.

The zone is setup into four wings. north, south, east and west.

Each wing is guarded by 2 golems, which are fairly easy to knock off.

There is at least 1 trap in each wing, which is a false floor that drops you into the basment where you have to sprint to a porter that takes your back to the start of the zone.

A LOT of shadowknights here, have some beefy tanks and enchanters are a must. Bards and make a great addition as you fight alot and quickly and will need the mana.

As far as the Crypt keeper goes, he is an undead human necromancer, and is NOT level 52-53 (conned blue at 50). he didnt last long with us either, he never even had a chance to get a pet.

This is really all the pertinent info through the north wing, Hopefully, I will have some more god news tomorrow night.

Crypt keeper dropped the Siren Robe once: AC 10 10 int 10 mr 10 fire ench only (HINT HINT)
The Fayguard Parrying Dagger twice: 9/17 AC 10 effect: word of pain, ranger only, no drop.

We had a great night, we were theonly ones inthe zone, and I would imagin it will stay that way for awhile longer.

RE: where is this place
# Aug 28 2000 at 8:11 AM Rating: Default
This zone is for 50+ characters. It s in the Overthere. Entrance is a big ruby in a temple in the canyon. You need a jade chokidai prod and a fang from Xalgoz (kaesora) to make the key to enter.
This zone is the place where Drussela Sathir, daughter of Venril Sathir, was burried. She's been turned into a demi-lich. Now she s the boss of Charasis/Howling stones, and she s the one that drops the necklace of superiority now. The dungeon is full of undeads, golems, goos, and famishers (tougher versions of Dalnir's nimblers), all blue or above at 52.

1) KC is not the same. There are a heap of SKs in HS, but I've personally never been HT'd in KC.
2) The loot tables for these 2 zones are VERY different. Granted theres nice loot from each zone, but its absolutely not the same.
3) The next time you insist on blowing hot air, use a hair dryer not a message board.

Mucilagenous Girdle
# Aug 15 2000 at 5:35 PM Rating: Decent
this girdle is supposed to be dropped here, so, what lvl is the guy who drops it and how do you get in this zone?
RE: Mucilagenous Girdle
# Aug 28 2000 at 8:02 AM Rating: Good
I got the Mucilagenous Girdle (ac 7 +6wis belt all all) about 2 weeks ago in North wing from a Bile Sentient, a rare named goo.
This goo, as well as most monsters in this wing, was blue at level 51.

First step to go in Charasis is to kill the chancellor of di zok in lake of ill omen, get his jade chokidai prod, go in kaesora and kill Xalgoz, get his fang, then go in swamp of no hope near trakanon's teeth entrance to a named froglok not far from there, give him the spear and fang, and get from him the key to Howling Stones.

You need a good group above level 50 to fight in this dungeon, but north wing is probably the easiest cause it s the first one you have to go to get a key to other sections. I'll consider you ll go there with only one group, cause that s enough if you re looking for good items.
In your group you need absolutely a high level enchanter, the higher the better, and a high level puller (not necessarily a monk). Those 2 are what will keep you safe.
A cleric is highly recommended too, cause in some situations a party member can get mobbed, and well complete healing has the best ratio possible for your tanks who will very often get down to 2 bubbles.
Necros are really efficient in this dungeon with many undeads, so you may want one.
A second tank is useful too, as well as a shaman to slow and complete the cleric buffs.
This dungeon is not designed to be camped. You have to move as soon as the way is cleared, else you will get stuck by repops just behind you. If you have to stay in a place make sure to clear everything that spawns nearby, many monsters there are roamers and your enchanter cant mesmerize 15 of them everytime.
Most monsters can be mana tapped though so your enchanter should be good on mana
Best thing is to move through a section, kill all things on your way, until you reach a teleport that brings you back to entrance. Usually before the teleporter you ll find a named monster that holds a key to another section, and usually a nice item. You can use a rogue as second tank to avoid staying until that named monster spawns, but if you re very patient you can go anywhere with no rogue. As soon as you re finished with a section, either you go to another or you start again the one you ve just done.
North section is a nice section for loot, so you can do it many times.

East stairs at entrance are a trap. Many carpets in this dungeons are traps too, dont walk on them, you would fall in the middle of mobs and die. If you have no rogue, first key (to north section) is on a bottomless famisher or something like that that mainly spawns in the pit below entrance. You can fall there for about 300 dmg or just levitate. There s a teleporter nearby to bring you back to entrance when you get the key. All keys in this dungeon are items. For exemple key to north entrance is a tattered candle.

One more thing, if you dont want to fight your way to the teleporter at end of each section, you will need an evacer in group. If you think you can go to the teleporters you still need an evacer to be ready to come pick your tanks at entrance when you want to leave. 2 monsters respawn at entrance so dont forget to clear it before bringing anyone else inside dungeon.

When you know how to handle it, Charasis becomes a really nice dungeon, with quite good loot and xp, and most times you ll be the only group inside. This dungeon is in my humble opinion very well designed except for some monster's pathway, and can be very fun to play. However it s a hard dungeon where you can die easily if you make mistakes.

Howling Stones is Great
# Aug 07 2000 at 12:59 AM Rating: Decent
I've spent only about 20 hours in here so far but heres what I can tell you. One, its a hard dungeon, mobs have odd aggros and they hit hard.

The zone is broken up into 4 wings: north south east west. In each wing there are multiple spots where a rare mob can spawn, or a place holder. Rare spawns have the chance to have the same loot as another named mob in the same wing.

The experience in here is awesome either because the killing is constant or you get a good chunk of experience per mob killed.

heres one mob for ya:

The Crypt Feaster. High 40's in level, has Bloodpoint as rare drop and Fire Opal as common, spawn in south wing.

Doing S wing as I post this with a 54-56 group:
55 Enc
56 Rog
56 Pal
56 Shm
54 Clr
54 Wiz (me)

We're camped in a hallway with a ruined wall after passing though a painting of Venril Sathir. So far great experience and loot.

Biggest pull was 4 mobs, usually tho 1-2. Didn't have any problems, 0 deaths, 0 evacs in about 4h so far. Also saw a mob not listed "a hamal skeleton" (or maybe "hamal skeleton") don't think it dropped anything special.
Fang
# Aug 05 2000 at 2:48 PM Rating: Decent
It's actually the Xalgozian Fang he wants and it's dropped by Xalgoz in Kaesora as Asarn pointed out. You also need to have wolf form before you attempt to give the prod and fang to Durgaz. Bring a druid if you aren't one already.

Its dropped off of Drusella Sathir- guess who's wife! They moved it from The Kly because it was too easy to get. There is good loot here. Quest:

This quest results in a key labeled "Key to Charisis" (Howling Stones). There is a froglok named Durgaz in the Swamp of No Hope who wants a Jade Chodakai prod and a vampire fang, and in return will give you a key to his master's lair. The prod drops from the Chancellor of Di'Zok in the Sarnak compound in the Lake of Ill Omen. The fang drops from a vampire located deep in the ruins of Kaesora.

Drussela drops the necklace as rare drop. You dont really need 3 groups to take her, a guild even took her with only one group. All you need is a high level (57+) puller, a high level enchanter, and other people to complete your group (a cleric, another tank, a shammy and a necro work nice). 3 groups under 55 can get wiped out easily before reaching drussela if they dont take care. Main thing is to pull safely, control crowds, and avoid the many traps inside.
Oh yeah
