Revamped on August 26, 2003 during Legacy of Ykesha, this is the higher level version of
Cazic-Thule.

The Accursed Temple of Cazic Thule sits in the southern portion of the Feerrott. Dwelling within its boundaries are a whole host of lizardmen worshippers and various aggressive species ranging from spiders, raptors, and giant mosquitoes to bubbling oozes, gorillas, and greenblood piranha, all of which fiercely protect the temple grounds.

Guild Raid on CT

My guild, The Defenders of the Realm, held a raid this weekend of CT on Bertoxxolous server. This was an absolutely amazing trip! We had 2 full groups averaging around level 30 camp the throne room. There were only 3 deaths (our guilds level 50 cleric was around for rez). In just two hours my 28 rogue gained 1/2 a level and about 50pp in loot.

This has got to be the most underutilized and unappreciated zone in the game. Face it, this is High Keep for the dark races. Bind in Oggok and life is good. The only problem is finding a group since no one wants to come here. Other than the bind/merchant issue there is absolutely no good reason not to hunt here from level 20 on up.

That is the problem with many dungeons in EQ now. They are bring your own group status. I am a lvl 18 shaman thinking of trying CT at 19 or 20 but will probablly miss out due to no groups. *sigh*
Is it possible......
# Oct 19 2001 at 9:05 AM Rating: Default
Is it possible for a small group of 3 (29 chanter, 30 ranger(myself), and a 22 warrior) to hunt here succesfully with a 50th lvl pally backin us? Would we be able to take pretty much anything in the zone. Im looking for some mad exp and the ravenscale for my inky rogue.

If you use the Pally as a healer, yes but stay in the throne room and courtyard. The avatar room would be bad for the pally, never mind what would happen to the rest of you :)
My experiences in Cazic Maze
# Oct 12 2001 at 2:57 PM Rating: Excellent
From my experiences in Cazic, I absolutely love fighting in the maze. At level 22, myself and a friend went in here and have been doing very well. (Paladin and Rogue). Also I've prospered all the way to level 31 in the maze with a group of three. Great number of mobs and believe it or not, fewer trains that you would think. (Unless you make it yourself).

Hunting in the maze however requires a few tidbits of knowledge. First of all, pick your spot to pull to, there is no real way to roam the maze and fight without getting yourself and a bunch of others killed. There are many dead ends in the maze, pick one that has a long branch to it if you do not have snare available to you. This gives you plenty of time to kill the mob when he runs before he aggies others on you. My Paladin/Rogue combo excel at this. The second dead end on your left as you enter the maze is a perfect spot and is guaranteed to have less trains than camping in the Court Yard. Every train in the zone will come through that Court Yard, I've never really understood the value of camping there. No offense to those that prefer that, to each his own.

Now the main thing to consider if you have only two people in your group, is your hunting raidus. there are plenty of lizards in Cazic, don't range too far afield for a pull simply because one isn't close by. Have patience and wait for a roamer or a pop, you'll not have long to wait. Keep in mind that your are only two people and your in a place that is very dangerous to the brash. If someone calls train, don't pull, wait it out. It may cost you minutes of idle time, but that is much better than running from Freeport or Arena to get your body. The next thing to keep in mind is what your limitation is. For my Paladin/Rogue (23/24 as of today) combo, we have healing, high damage and a well equiped tank. Our limits are 2Warders and 1Defender at once. If the Rogue pulls this, we stand firm, killing both Warders first because they die extreamly quick and then the defender. The paladin pulls all the mobs on her and absops the damage so that at the end of battle, we bandage, then heal. Rouge ends up full hp, Paladin is down only 1 bar of hp after heal/bandange and Pally is at half mana. Pally meds, Rogue pulls. Great system. Now if we get a single Sentinel, we stand firm or three warders or 2 defenders. This is our limit, anything over this combo will be too much for us to handle, so we call the train and zone. If you are careful in your pulls and mindful of the environment you are in, you will rarely cause a train and hardly ever die. If you get greedy and try to overreach yourself, your chances of a 30 minute corpse recover goes up dramatically.

The more people in your group, the better the maze gets..all the way to level 31. This place is constant fighting and great fun. the exp and the treasure are a nice bonus.

i agree with alot of the people here and disagree w/ some on a few points. heres my 2 pubic hairs of opinion:
I hate the lizzy's in CT.
once you get to about 2 bubs of health every lizard born that year will suddenly decide its a great, no the best idea they've ever had to go attack you.
the roving guards make it damn near impossible to pull only 1 thing.
i've lost 23rd lvl there 3 times, reason: every time that happened our cleric's ISP decided he had been online to long.
heres the skinny on loot: if the groups rogue doesn't have the piece of RS that drops he gets it ,period.
if the groups SK doesnt have the piece of decayed that dropps he gets it, period.
to everyone who complains and wants to roll everything, how would you like the rogues to tell you to roll when you need your corpse retreived from somewhere you shouldn't have been, or the SK telling you they wanna roll for something enchanters can only use. everyone helps eachother in every dungeon for things they dont need but would be real nice to have for one of their other characters. get some of your RL freinds to help you twink out a different character, just because your there when it drops doesn't mean you should have it.
if an SK, or rogue already has that peice by all means roll for it. nothin splits up a good group quicker than greed.

Who is really the greedy one here? Sounds like you are. I am all for open roll on EVERYTHING in EVERY dungeon. Even if it is an item only my class can use and another gets it. Maybe I NEED to sell that item I can't use for the plats to BUY an item I NEED and can use. I have seen NBG break up many groups. I have yet to see open rolls on everything do that.
RE: CT hell
# Jan 12 2002 at 1:43 PM Rating: Decent
i think what you need to do is modify the NBG thing.

say you are in a party with a rogue, a warrior, a magician and a monk. on the first kill a rogue only item drops, the rogue gets it. second kill just money. third kill another rogue item. on the third kill it's rolled for since no one else had gotten any loot yet. that way the rogue does not lose out on gear only he can use and the rest of the party gets some sellable stuff as well.
Binding and faction

Level 25 warrior here. Found that hunting in the court yard in Cathic can be quite profitable in Xp's and pp. Is there a closer bind point than Oggok? I mean, they don't like me, I mean they realllly don't like me.

So, what is the best way to raise my faction with the orges in the Feerrot area?

Paying for a port once I'm loaded up with fine wps is annoying and the run back is quite long and often dangerous.

You could bind at the Arena; 4 zones away but it's closer than FP.
RE: Binding and faction
# Sep 06 2001 at 9:06 AM Rating: Decent
Raising Oggok faction is pretty hard I believe. I believe it involves killing lots of dwarves, at least until you can start questing.

You should probably rely on selling your loot to other players. I dont know now, but there used to be lots of people buying FS weapons for 3 pp each, and making a profit that way. I dont think many do anymore, but if you find a druid to group with, they can sell for you easily. If you want to sell yourself, I think you can sell at gypsies in rathe, and no closer.

Binding is also a problem. Closest place is the Arena. The best way to get around it is not to die!
A TIP
# Aug 14 2001 at 1:27 PM Rating: Decent
Here is a tip I havent read yet, and it applies to EVERY dungeon zone in the game. Work together!! If you see another group in the CY in trouble (its easy to tell) then dont hesitate, jump in! Not for the loot or xp, but to control the crowd. Every lizard in the place is working together, so every player had better be too. Or else....loading...It doesnt matter if its not your kill, if it turns and runs, help them take it down! Trains hurt everyone. Why wait until you're sure the other group has lost control? By then your running too. Don't let other groups lose control, and don't let anyone's runner get away. There are few trains indeed if all the groups of players are communicating and bailing each other out, instead of pointing, laughing, and then running, and complaining.

My guild will be doing a raid on CT soon. Anyone have some advice on where to start, where to go, what to get, etc.?
RE: raid advice
# Jul 12 2001 at 4:46 PM Rating: Decent
I have been here for the equivalent of 4 levels, but have only gained one (death consumed others). There's a hint there. Depending on level, u start in CY (court yard), pulling the maze (check Eq atlas). Hugh trains are the norm, the lizzies absolutely work together. The key areas are Throne Room 1 (TR1) around hi 20's, full group, Throne 2, behind TR1, 30's full group. The AOF Pyramid, 30's, the Archon Pyramid and four corners (you get there through the maze), and the gators down in the pools.

Do CY, then Gators or TR1, but breaking spawn is tough. Either Pyramid is good too, great loot and Fine Steel Weapons. AOF Pyramid is best worked outside. If you go in, the green/blue pools are weird, and the trains get nasty. Especially when led by the Avator of Fear itself. Archon Pyramid is a bit more managable, but you gotta get through the maze, so you may need invis if in 20's.

If you kill a crusader and aren't an SK, shout out the loot. Dont waiste it, lots of SK on epic quest need it, and it's tough to get. If you pick it up and aren't an SK or Dark Race, your not getting the quest.

If your in your 20's, you need a well balanced, discipline group. You'll be fight 5-10 lizzies at a time, all 20's or more. Mez, never fear (brings a bigger train). Don't panic, evac early if being overrun. Die a lot.

Good Luck. If your on the Rathe, look for my body.

Goto 4c an yu go around the back of the temple, this is where the Archon spawns uptop an looks like a old Aztek temple.Go up the first set of stairs an run around this level till yu come onto the second level stairs go up an move around this lavel until yu se the 3rd level stairs set up camp here! You can solo at this spot from levels 32 to almost 40! there is only ever one wonderin spawn on this level and the timer is about 20 mins spawn! so tons of time to med an kill an pull from other levels .Just Watch your Stoopid but just wanna be helpful but in fact can get you killed pet. And if yur lucky an kill enough of them Zealots yu will eventually get all the decayed armor. I have gotten Prolly about 3 full sets there just be smart an if someone calls out 4c camped just invis an see where they are usually just some high level at the top lookin fer Rogue twink arms.An be care ful of adds always always have yur FD up this is a must to Solo'in anyways!

BTW I would prefer to solo or hunt with a 37 monk friend OR a 36 wiz friend (Note that does not mean i will not group i just tend to play while the server is low in numbers 600-800 and find it hard sometimes)I am also prepare to travel to kunark or velious, even though i **** my pants the one and only time i tried to get there

Also do u have to do alot of underwater swimming to get to the AoF room? The maps aren't clear on this. Thanx

when you're heading down the corridor from the courtyard to the throne room, instead of opening the door leading to the throne room area, turn around and go through the opposite door. This will lead you down a long windy hallway ending in a door. Open the door, and you'll see the pool with the AoF's green bubble in it. Jump in, and head for the bubble; you can't dive anywhere else anyway. Once you hit the green bubble, you can dive down to the floor where the AoF and his pet are. You can easily get out by swimming up to the top again if you like. There may be other ways, but this is the way I went this weekend when my sense undead took me to him and his pet =). Good luck on that RS chestguard!

The other way is through the door on lower level through all the ponds and trains, and swim up from the last pool, very similar to gators. Brings you out at north side of CY, upper level.

Loot / XP, and some notes for Rogues hunting in Cazic
# May 22 2001 at 10:10 AM Rating: Good
If you come to CT looking for loot and you are NOT an evil class, you are wasting your time. It is a giant pain in the butt collecting FS and having to wander the hills just to get to a spot where you can sell. My advice to any mid 20 - mid 30 who is looking for excellent loot is this:
Run, do not walk, to Highpass Keep. This zone is unlike most others in that you can BIND AND FIGHT IN THE SAME ZONE. There is also a BANK no further than 10 seconds away from the basement where you hunt goblins. It makes for a good bind spot. If you happen to die in Highpass Keep, do not fret....no matter where you are bound, you are never more than 1 minute from your corpse. Fine Steel Weapons (3pp-6pp) and Large/Small Bricks of High Quality Ore (4/9pp respectively) drop like rain in this zone, especially in the Warrior and Raider room. To top it off, there are few places that have better XP than Highpass Keep. I leveled there from around 27-35.....very quickly.

Now on to Cazic Thule. This is something that irritates me slightly. To all you fellow Rogues who whine about everyone else camping the Ravenscale and trying to sell it to you for what you perceive to be "Inflated" prices.....STOP WHINING. If you dislike it...dont buy it. Drag your *** to Cazic and EARN IT. If you are not of a sufficient level to come to Cazic and survive...then you shouldn't be worrying about getting Ravenscale. If you are high enough in level...exercise a little patience. I know sometimes it is a pain to find a group in Cazic. And it can be even more tiresome when you find a group who wants to roll for RS. Here is a way to make things easier.

Try starting your own group. It sounds funny because the zone is crowded, but if you've spent any amount of time there, you'll know that groups split up frequently. All you have to do is step up to the plate and take charge. Form a group and make a very considerate offer for loot. The one that seems to work best is this; you get first crack at any RS that drops but EXCLUDE yourself from all other loot. This means no FS, no coin, and no lizzardscale items. Once you get your RS item that you are after, include yourself in the regular loot but allow the others to roll for any additional RS that may drop...provided that you already have the piece in question. (you already have it....so why be greedy?) Its a fair compromise that is rarely argued when I am in a group.

If you get a chance to group with a Shadow Knight, do so. They are usually more willing to accept your loot terms given the fact that most of them are in CT to collect Decayed Armor pieces. While stuck in a group that insists on rolling, I've many SK's that were kind enough to either give up their spot in the roll when RS dropped, or rolled for it and gave me the RS if they won.

Here's another tip if you cant seem to find a group, the Steel Golem (found at the bottom of the green pool....drops the RS gloves) is a mob that is hardly ever camped. If you are looking for RS (even though the gloves aren't that great) or if you are just looking for great XP, then this is the spot to hunt. If the zone is crowded, there will more than likely be enough ungrouped people in the zone willing to team up with you. The gators down in this area give great xp and drop steins, shovels, etc. for a quest (cant remember which at the moment). Be warned though, the gators bite hard and will auto aggro. The Golem hits very hard and is almost as dificult to kill as the AoF. Well...that's my 2 coppers worth. Happy hunting

RE: Pulling 101 or pulling for dummies 1st edition
# May 11 2001 at 8:31 PM Rating: Good
lol ok so i need posting for dummies.........

The first time i went to Cazic Thule was with my lvl 29 mag & my girlfrieds lvl 29 druid.
Needless to say, it seemed like evey god damn lizard in that place aggroed on us and
even though they all conned green, or so it seemed, the had to bail and zone. The only red
we saw while there was a fanatic but he was followed by at least 8 greenies. Can you say zone, I knew that you could. After a long while Ionce again entered the horrible Temple of Cazic Thule, this time with my lvl 24 Rogue, and this time I didnt forget the gravy. Nor did I forget about the hell trains this place can provide. Pulling here is simple. Here are a few rules that you can apply to almost anywhere thats new to you, or your not sure what to expect when over level 20.

1) GREEN CONNS CAN KILL YOU. Especially if theres more then 3. Remember, your over level
20 now and even if its green it almost as high as you are sometimes.

2) KILL NOW, OR ADD IT LATER. Thats right, kill those greenies standing around just looking at you, or watch as they join in sometimes when you least expect them too.

3) LEARN FROM OTHERS. Watch others pull for a bit. See where they pull from, and watch where they dare not go. Ask around, believe it or not there are still nice people that play this game =)

4) GROUP. If you can great, if you cant try not to get in over your head.

5) KNOW WHERE TO ZONE. This will save you, nuff said.

6)KNOW WHEN TO ZONE. Dont expect everyone to shout when they train the whole damn place. If you see someone running with tons of mobs on them, you had best zone or find out
that a mob, when pissed, if it cant get the damn fool that agroed it, will surely take YOU as sloppy seconds.

7) KNOW YOUR ENEMY. Learn which mobs are casters and which are melee. Yes, this is easyer said then done, trust me I know...

8) HEAL & MED TO FULL. I know, I know it takes freaking forever right? Try losing a level, nuff said.

9) BRING SUPPLIES. Dont go anywhere half cocked. Nothing sucks more then needin something and not having it when you need it most. Can you say Bandages, I knew that you could....

10) DONT GIVE UP. If one spot isnt working for you, try another. try the / enter command, look at the levels of the other people in the zone. If they are way higher then you, you can bet your not going to have it easy. Be polite and ask where a good spot for you to hunt is. If you cant hunt there now , maybe you can in a few levels. Most of all have FUN !

What are the closest bind points for good (not evil) players? I am a L32 Ranger and have never been down in this part of the Norrath and thought that I should check it out. Freeport and the Arena are kind of far... Should I attempt to bind in Ogguk or Grobb? I can invis, so maybe binding is an evil city is the way to go...

Just inside the Ogguk zone is fairly safe; the only time you'll see a bouncer there is if someone trained him. If that happens, at this level you should be able take the one or two hits you'll get before you can zone. Just outside is safe, too, provided nobody trained *those* bouncers, too.

This only works if you have some form of invisibility to get past the bouncers at the gates of the city, of course. I would *not* recommend binding in Ogguk for, say, a cleric.
RE: Bind Points
# Jun 20 2001 at 4:25 PM Rating: Good
Me (35 Rogue, 32 at the time) and a 35 Ranger friend used to bind just inside Ogguk zone (so we could hunt CT or RM) all the time. I never saw any bouncers up there. The nearest Ogres are a long way down the hall and do not have a patrol route that comes up that far. The other thing is if you have your Rogue illusion:Def mask, you can bank and such in Ogguk.

Re: The guy saying if you don't like the prices don't buy it. I agree entirely, try going up to the top of that Pyramid to get the Templar (RS pants) sometime. Difficult to pull him down, you have to go after him. In a 32-36 full group, we took a beating up there (admittedly, our Cleric took a little LD vacation). Tough place to reach and it is not so much the mobs as it is the spawn rate and the fact that the greenest lizard there will jump in to help.

Lastly, the best I ever did in CT was me, a 37 Ogre SK, and a 35 Cleric. The Ogre knew the zone very well. We fought through the maze quickly (killing Radiant as an aside) and camped the Pyramid for a long time. Easy exp. We were leaving FS on the ground because none of us wanted to leave. The key is finding a 'native' that knows the zone.

Good Hunting

FD pulling is slow. Cazic is an outdoor zone, so any druid or ranger can Harmony a crowd and pull singles, if they know their stuff.

For that matter, any decent bard can use Lament to do likewise. And Lament still works when you move indoors... If you're pulling casters, you REALLY want a bard, since he can crank amazing resistances before pulling, or charm casters and bring them back all docile to be slaughtered.

Mudwater runes drop off fanatics. I usually see them drop about 1 in 20 or 30. Usually the easiest way to get the rune (or Mastery pages) is to shout that you need it. Since they are no drop most everyone will let you loot them without a problem.

Ok listen up. This place sucks. Sucks bad. Worst trains I have ever seen. Yes way worse than Unrest.

GOOD NEWS- AWESOME LOOT and EXP

That is if you don't die 4 times a day like I have on occasion. Here is how to live and get what you want.

Enchanter most important class here. If there is one in the zone offer them what ever they want to join your group. With all trains you need him to mezz and his quickness buff are sweet and ...of course clarity/breeze. Yes a healer is important but no enchanter, no living in any area for very long. Sure you will be able to hang in the TR for a while but eventually someone will get antzy and pull from upstairs and the INC!!!!!! 4 higher lvl mobs and then POP POP POP POP the TR spawns again and you get run out of there. Some will die probably the healer because he is medding and he will get mad and split cause every other group in Cazic is telling him every 10minutes to join there group. Plus it will take you 30 min to regain the room. GET an ENCHANTER.

2nd RULE - If you do not have a healer only fight in the gator pits. Yes people say they are tough but it has the least amount of trains and you can fight at your own pace. EXP kicks *** and the steel golem that spawns in the back of the green pool is not that bad if you have a full group. if you can get a bard down here you will stay at full HP.

3rd Rule ATTENTION Shadow Knights!!! I am a
SK and getting the dark forge is a pain in the *** so much so that every day I am tempted to leave and come back when I am lvl 45 and no lizzy will train on me and just camp the place holder spawns. BUT!!! by lvl 45 you wont care about Darkforge that much so you got no choice but to stay here and work your *** off for it. Here is how to do it.

1. Tell everyone your party that only you and othere SK's r looting decayed. Be nice. You do deserve it period. BUT others are fighting too and we all love to do our twinking so they might want it. Ususlly everyone agrees just be up front about it and make sure you say you believe the rogues should take the Raven Scale armor. There is usually a rogue in your group so he will be on your side. And then as soon as a Crusader dies loot it right away. If there is another SK in the group find out what pieces he needs and you tell him as well everyone should be happy.

2. Where to find them. I have seen a crusader in upper pool of AoF. In the back of a corridor on the 2nd lvl of the TR. 3rd and 4th lvl of the temple. And in the sewers. I have seen 3 so far and I have been in Cazic for 10 DAYS!!!!! AHHHHHHH.

3. I came here at lvl 30 I suggest you do the same. I am on Bertoxx server and I usually find on a busy day only 18ish people in zone. It could easily support 30 people. Once you form a group they r gonna be leery of heading to Crusader spots cause <sigh> they r in all the tough areas. And I have found my most successful group consist of all 30+ members. Most others figure that out too and so below 30 unless u r healer or enchanter no one will want u in the group.

4th RULE take charge - make sure everyone is on the same page especially when u r on the move. Damn healers and mages spend so much time medding they r AFK a lot to keep from being bored(sooooo annoying). So if u r moving make sure they r with you and not watching NYPD blue. Tanks r dumb you have to remind them to assist eachother especially when there is an enchanter who is trying to mezz. Its like OK a lizzard with 3hp hits just as hard as one who has 500. Tanks dont like to get hit by monsters that they r not attacking. <sigh> They will forget to assist when there r the most monsters around when they should be assisting the most to let enchanter do the work.

5th RULE Healers please let the taunter know when u got aggro on you and you cannot cast. Soooo many times I see my life dropping and the healer running around in circles or swinging his pathetic screaming mace like it is gonna scare off the lizzard or something. Let the tanks tank.

6th RULE if someone says run...RUN. Dont be the last one out of the room. Last one out of the room dies. <-------- that is a period there. If you look around and there is at least as many lizzards as there r in your group u r in trouble. Yes you can win but this is when the healers are swinging their pathetic screaming maces and the enchanter has aggro on him and the dumb barbarian is attacking the worst monster possible. So if u are all brave ...great, play good help the healer and enchanter and assist the puller. But if someone says run don't look to see how many r left standing there cause it will only be you. Bye bye.

7th RULE Where is the RS??? Raven scale drops off Steel golem (gloves?)in Green gator pool. Some other golem (coif) in throne room area. Avatar of Fear(AoF) (BP)in green orb pool room. 2 named lizzards (legs, helm, i think)that spawn on the throne. And Lizzy Archon (arms) at top of the temple. If there is another rogue in the group inspect him right away and see what pieces he already has. Roguse that dont have it should be 1st to get it. If every rogue has it then all roll. Roguse see SK DF section on going about getting permission to loot what is rightfully yours.

Finally dont rush it i am lvl 33 and still get my *** kicked find a good group odn't get greddy for your armor if you have even the slightest reservation to the strength of the party just pull from the maze or do gators.

Hope this helped.

Haha, great guide deckwish!

I've only been here a couple of days @ level 30 (had an abortive attempt to hunt here at 27), and found myself nodded my head to everything you said!

Except the loot stuff - not had anything drop yet to argue about ;)

Im a level 27 dru now and have been in Cazic Thule since level 25. To answer your question .. the XP is very good and the loot is good also. The average loot is between 5 gp and 4 pp .. and most lizards drop fine steel weapons, (many worth 4 and 5 pp). I've made 150 pp in one level just by killing lizzies and selling fine steel to merchants.
Even though we druids can solo lizzies without much problem, groups are by far the best way to go .. especially when you accidentally pull 4 or 5 at a time .. which happens a lot !

Hope this helps,

I am a lvl 22 rogue and I am thinking about going into CT after I get a good buffer. I am currently in Kunark Lake of Ill Omen. It is fairly nice here but Iahve to travel way far to even go to a bank and Groups are usually ard to find unless you know someone. Is It a good idea for me to go to CT now or should I wait till a later lvl? If I should wait till a later lvl, What lv should I go?
