Najena, a dungeon located in the southeast part of the Lavastorm Mountains, is named after one of the more notable magicians of Antonica.

You'll need to pick up various keys to get around this place:

- Guard's Keyring (dropped by ogre guards and Moosh) opens prison cells.
- Shiny Metal Key (dropped by the Guard Captain) opens the first cell leading to Rathyl.
- Dull Bone Key (dropped by BoneCracker) opens Rathyl's cell.
- Bloodstained Key (dropped by Rathyl & Drelzna) opens Drelzna's room
- Golden Crescent Key (dropped by Drelzna and Najena) opens Najena's room.

I have always liked this zone ever since I found it with my ranger forever ago. Now I take all my alts there to LVL. Now that it is Hot Zone I am hoping the exp is even better than the normal 13% modifier that is usually in the zone.

Always get a keyring right off the bat before heading down deeper and it is usually ok, unless you are a lvl 12 caster trying to kill the mobs down deeper and all your spells get resisted, lol.

To get out of the cell without the hole in the wall you need to have the guard's keyring on your cursor. loot it as soon as you see it drop is my advice. It's a p.i.t.a. getting stuck in there.

you have to duck when you try to go through bars. I have done it ...alot.. Takes a lil bit to do it, but it can be done.

Let me correct and say this. If you are in the jail with the hole in the one side, you have to duck several times to mimic "wiggling out".

This zone has the potential to put you into the suckiest position in all of EQ (that i have encountered) What, you ask, could possibly be that sucky? Well I'll tell you. Right now I am locked in a cage without the key to get out of it. I am sure someone would be happy to help me IF THERE WAS ANYONE ELSE IN THE ZONE!!!!! But there isn't. I have been alone in the zone in this cage for about 20 minutes trying to entice and kill a passing Ogre. And there really aren't that many passing Ogres. AND the few Ogres that pass nearby run faster than a mother when their HP is low so I have managed to kill one in 20 minutes. This is, IMO the most frustrating and pointless thing EQ could possibly have decided to do in order to completely ***** over people who solo. I know that I made the mistake of falling into this F@%&^%'n cell but do they really need to make the consequences so bad that I don't want to keep playing the game!?!

Sorry I am not adding anything too usefull other than a word of warning, but I needed to vent my frustration somewhere.

Got stuck last night in both the cells. One has a hole in it so you can easily get out. IF you are a larger race, you might have to duck, run and jump through bit not a prob. The cell without the hole I got stuck in. Ended up asking guildies how to get out. Run at the door. Keep running until you magically pass through it. Did this with an Erudite so I dont know if it works for larger races but humans and smaller should be able to get through jsut fine.

You either didn't read up on this solo adventure of you or you don't know how to /petition yet ;)

You can Wiggle between the bars (Shift Left + Right) run forward at them - jump - etc... It should take you 3-15 seconds most to figure it out.

What's really funny is when one of your party members dies above when killing Drelzna and they give someone /consent then that person misses the turn and lands in the pit with the corpse lol

Ohh yeah and then there's the "Was sitting in Najena's room when the server crashed and was down for over an hour and most everyone decided to just call it a night except you and another friend. The bring the server back up and POOF your dead - OR - your locked INSIDE the ROOM!" This happened to us last night - luckily a nice GM came to our rescue and a 100% res.

FUN FUN FUN!

Saw a total of 8 people there last night the entire night and 6 of them were our party! lol

One of the cells has a gap you can get out of, otherwise unless you're a gate-capable caster or a rogue you're in trouble. One option if you can pull an ogre guard over is to get it to kill you near the bars and come back to pull your corpse out.
If you goig to die...
# Jan 25 2003 at 1:27 PM Rating: Default
Ok if your soloing in this place, most of us will be. Ther eare alot of locked places you need to enter, as notted below. Sometimes mobs are going to be just tooo powerfull so mauke sure you pull them twoards the door, if dont outside the door, safer incase you die, if you do die, you should try to use /corpse targeting yourself, neer the locked door, that should fix it. AND BE SURE TO PICK UP A GUARDING key from any of the Orges, if you fall down a hole, you can be locked in with a Stag Terror. And the wait isnt purty, bu if you do get locked in, just wait for moosh hit him somehow, hopefully you have a ranged or spell iteme, he drops the key about half the time.
Using Negation Potion

I just bought "Potion of Negation" because I hate when the magicians do their thing. I have never used a potion before, but It sounded like a reasonable idea. Any comments?
Also, I'm a newbie with a 26 lvl monk & Bonecrusher cleaned my clock in about one minute (with about 1,000,000,000,000,000 of his friends) Any advice for killing him or am I just not high enough? Why would a monk want a black sapphire anyway? A guy kept on bugging me if I wanted it (for free)!!! I told him no...I'm such a newbie I guess. Take care friends...

The black(-ened?) sapphire is part of the monk sash or headband quests, which are part of the monk epic quest. Collecting it then would have saved you having to go back and loot it again if you want to do the epic.
Help for other mages
# Sep 18 2002 at 5:18 PM Rating: Excellent
Hello fellow Adventurers!

I just wanted to post my experiences in the last two days, in the hopes that it will help other mages who are looking for their focus items and/or starting their epics.

First of all, kill all the magicians. This goes for goblin magicians AND the spawns called "a magician." At level 31 using a water pet summoned with a focus item I didn't have any problems solo except with the Mistress. She aggroed me and kicked the crap out of me. I got her down to about 80% health and by then my pet was almost dead so I just gated out.

Second, if you're level 30ish like I was, get a friend. I went in with a fellow lev 41 guildy and we had no problems at all, except with the mistress as mentioned above (and I think we could have taken her if we were together, but we were seperated at that point).

In short, we just ran around and let our pets attack everything. Ogre guards, ele's, skellies, etc (although we were specifically hunting the mages). A level 55 druid friend from the guild dropped by for the fun of it after we had been in there for couple of hours, and we decided to raid Najena.

THIS is a very important point I think! I got all 4 of the focus components needed, as well as Words of the Mastery Wind, but 3 of the 4 components that I got, and the words, were all on the way to camping Najena. I am positive that it's not just coincidence that the components were dropping like flies the closer that we got to Najena. I would highly recommend going ahead with a friend and killing her while you're in there, because a couple of the items actually dropped in the room with her. I know it's supposed to be random drops on the mages for the focus items...but I don't believe it...

All in all I spent 6 hours in there and came out with:

1. Words of the Mastery Wind
2. All 4 of the mage focus components (broom, stein, torch, shovel).
3. Flowing Black Robe as a gift for my EQ-girlfriend that just started a nec (I'm gonna get some lovin' now)
4. That stiletto thingy, 6dam 23 delay procs bloodclaw. It was on the Widow Mistress that our kind druid friend went down there and spanked.
5. About 50plat worth of miscellaneous loot.

All in all a good night =).

Let's see...the only other thing to keep in mind is that the Widow Mistress is supposed to be a lev 35 pop...don't believe it. She might spawn that low, but she was red to me at 32 (I dinged 32 in there lol), and light blue to the 55 druid. The druid of course couldn't kite or fight normal druid style in there, but she did say that the mistress was a serious under-con. It gave her a run for her money at level 55, believe it or not, and she's twinked out.

Oh and one other thing. I would recommend using conjuration based spells instead of evocation. I think fire would probably land better on the higher level mobs, but LoS nukes are real hard to get lined up in there. Being DE mobs the higher ones (Rathyl, Drelzna) resisted some, but still the average nuke was over 100dam and that was more than good enough for our purposes.

Good luck everyone! Hope this helps!

You are about three times as likely to get a focus item / epic page drop off a darkboned skeleton than a magician - make them your priority.

For the pages, I never got any drop upstairs off anyone. However, these pages dropped quite consistently from downstairs magicians, Rathyl, Rathyl reincarnate and Ekeros (spawns in Ratyl's antechamber).

If you are above level 29 I would suggest that you can do this dungeon solo if you are reasonably careful and THE BEST place to get your focus / epic drops is camping Rathyl, his antechamber of magicians / Ekeros and the 2 darkboned skels in the cell next door. Also he drops a couple of cool Weight Reduction bags and his reincarnate drops caster bracers - good to use or sell.

If Ekeros drops the blackened sapphire - hold onto it - a monk WILL buy it off you soon enough you'll see ))

To get into this area you must kill the group of ogres and bonecracker to get the keys, this is easy. What I would say is LEAVE Drezlna in terms of a camp site, for reasons including the fact that she is significantly harder to kill (with her necro freinds as well...), also her drops are not worth the hassle of getting Harm Touched for 250 many times and also she has never dropped focus items or pages when I killed her. Obviously kill her once after Rathyl drops her key to get Najena's key !

Final 2 tips :-

1) Always try and kill any mobs just as they spawn as almost everyone in Najena has damage shield spells, pets and protection spells to cast when they pop. Its a lot easier with a single nuke as they pop )

2) Remember that the elemental mastery pages drop in an ever circling order - I mean if you are solo in this dungeon, you will get wind, fire, earth, water pages in that order and repeating constantly. If you leave Najena (for sleep etc !) and someone else gets the next sequential drop, you will only get one you already have, so stay camping... ))

Hope this is of use to you all. I have GREAT fun in this fantastically designed dungeon ) enjoy yourselves ))

***posted under another topic here :-

I have been in this dungeon for over 50 hours in total, camping in rotation Rathyl, Najena and occasionally Drezlna (or (hardcore) Webmistress with others !).

As a level 35 magician you can do any two of these complete spawn sets in solo with FM and DS'd focused earth pet. I would suggest that the xp is ok (they are all dark blue to me xcpt webmistress yellow) and the loot and cash is very good indeed. Gypsy and druid vendors nearby in lava...

The only problem is that I have been camping for the tome and Rathyl's 8 slot pack all this time with no success with either (and about 30 kills of each mob at least).

I think najena spawns about 1/3 of the time in all and rathyl about 1/2 the time instead of their PH's.

Magicians go to this zone ) - get your focus items, pages of mastery and xp, loot and a fun place to solo with your pet or group for faster rotation through dungeon...

If you are in solo, the best place bar none for getting focus items, pages of elemental mastery for epic and sellable / nice drops + ok xp at this level is rathyls room and surrounding area. Neighbouring darkbones and Rathyl's magician protectors drop a lot more focus stuff than anywhere else in dungeon plus you might get a pack / pouch / bracers / ekeros drop to sell to a monk )

If you sit and camp in one spot you are less likely to get any kind of decent drop in my experience, let the spawns pop and fully buff 1st for more chance I think. However, if you cant handle a whole room's worth on FM, then space out the kills when you first go in, they will pop with the same spacing ! Always get necro / magician protectors 1st cos when they pop again you can nuke them before they can buff / summon pets.

I just want the drops to come my way sometime :(

"As a level 35 magician you can do any two of these complete spawn sets in solo with FM and DS'd focused earth pet"

Better yet, summon an MS1 pet with the fire pet DS (keep resummoning until you get one that casts the DS, I find about 20% of them will do that) and that bad boy will tear through almost any mob in the dungeon with ease; also, if you summon a tentacle terror you can confuse the newbies :).
Camping for Mage Focus Item Quests
# May 14 2002 at 5:31 PM Rating: Decent
I'd just like to say that I was in Najena once before doing these quests but after I was finished knew at least the front half like the back of my hand.

Mages will come here around the early 30s to do their pet focus items quests looking for: a torch, a broom, a shovel, and a stein. Hence why I was in Najena.

There are three main camps of magicians: one underground next to the Bonecracker, one just past the tentacled terrors and one in a room further in with a glowing pool with a crystal over it at its center.

First of all, the drops are plain evil - the shovel and broom seem to be the most rare. I can say that I once saw four steins and six torches drop with not even a hint that a shovel or broom was anywhere in my future. All in all, I camped Najena for five days pretty much straight and got all but the shovel (which I bought from another player who happened to have one in his bank).

If you're a mage, I suggest not being under level 30 when attempting this and use an Air pet - less chance of aggroing mobs on the way when you're running from camp to camp - the trains here can add up and kill you outright.

Also, I'd HIGHLY recommend keeping an eye on your clock and pay close attention to that 20 minute spawn time. If you can kill the magicians before they buff themselves or summon a pet, the better your chances of walking away without a scratch. And if you can kill them with one DD, their existing pet fades away (no need to finish it off - it's green anyway).

The last thing of note is that you're going to get SICK of seeing Trazdon spawn instead of a magician (I must have seen EASILY three dozen Dark Cirlets drop in my five day camp there - NOT a rare drop, that).
Dark Circlet for Crafted Quest

Howdy all,

Just thought I would post about my experience here recently. First off, I am a level 34 non-twinked Barbarian Warrior. I use a Blackened Alloy ******* Sword that I got in RunnyEye (great weapon for the effort).

I came to Najena fully expecting to die a few times scouting and figuring out the lay of the land. I got to tell you, this is a super easy camp for level 33 and up.

First off, get yourself a map of the dungeon this will help you a lot if you are not familiar with Najena (as I was). Most of the mobs are Green to Lt Blue, including the Oger Guards that patrol the lower section Near Trazdon's hangout. So agro should not be a problem. However, there is a room nearby with the Oger Captain. This room equals death for a solo warrior. So try to avoid it if you can.

Once you enter Trazdon's room you will see on your left two elementals standing in a red pool with steam comming up from it. Both will con green. They will agro if you sit too close to them. And they run, fast and early. Around the room is a ramp. As you go up the ramp there will ba a mage and a pet. A little farther up the ramp (if you are unlucky) Trazdon and his pet.

Trazdon's placeholder is a mage that conned green to me at level 33. If you see the mage you are ready to rock. Kill both mages and kill some time. They are on a 20 minute respawn.. It is MUCH easier to kill the mages as they pop. If you are quick they will not have time to buff themselves or summon a pet. So keep an eye on the clock for them to pop. Trazdon himself conned blue to me. Try to engage him as he pops as well. You will have a much easier time dispatching him that way. The frist day I was there I killed Trazdon 3 times before I got the Dark Circlet. He's not that rare of a spawn and will often times pop twice in a row. I would say my total camp time was about 4 hours.

One thing you can do in your down time is go kill Bonecracker. He is an undead froglok that is in a room near Trazdon. He drops some nice warrior items. A Band of Flesh (+2 str ring) Common drop, Barbed Leather Whip (sells for 11p to the outside vendors), and a Leering Mask AC3 Dex +3 (more rare). Last night I killed him and he dropped a Rubicite Bracer AC 9, nothing special about it except it is a cool looking red piece. I did some research on it and found that the Rubicite stuff was not listed as a drop at all from him. So I'm not sure what's up with that. No idea what to sell it for.

Hope this helps you Warriors out! Now go kill some stuff!

# Feb 07 2002 at 4:11 PM Rating: Decent
I found a great place to get solo experience here. The 3 "a skeletons" that drop the nobleman's hilt for the Ghoulbane quest all con dark blue to a lvl 30. You can walk right back to them without anything else agroing you. If you cast instrument of Nife and use your ward undead or expell undead you can finish these off very quickly. I keep instrument of Nife casted on my Ghoulbane and when they are procing I can finish these guys off in a matter of seconds with very little health or mana lost. Of course if they aren't procing it takes a little while. There are 3 of them that spawn regularly so there is a constant flow of experience. Every once in a while the Ogre Guards would attack me while I medded but they are an easy kill.

Great experience and pretty good loot too.

Soling level 25 SK

I tried to solo in this dungeon today with my 25th level SK. Seemed very nice at first. The green skellies and ogres in the front let me do as I please. I went deeper and found a couple of light blue ogre guards. Wiped them pretty easy. I saw a dark blue mob called "A Skelaton." Now my SK has handled black before and I have had quite a bit of experience with undead, so I attacked without a second thought. WELL. Let me tell you, I don't know what kind of A Skelaton that was, but it put a whipping on my SK. I Darknessed it to start off as usual....it whaled on me for 54 hit point hits several times through the battle. I started out at nearly full strength, so I didn't really get worried...until suddenly....I noticed that my life bar was down to 2 reds, and he was only halfway dead. By god!!! I had my HT down at the time, so this friggin blue killed me fairly easily! I came right back, looted my corpse, and attacked again. Same type of battle...maybe I should have gotten my pet out, but I didn't. I was scared he would give me adds. Well, he whaled on me again!! This time, I Harm Touched and killed him. But it was a close battle!!!! I was PO'd. Well, I hung around and did a few more solo battles, healing myself as I went. I got a little deeper....well, by god, I saw another blue "A Skelaton." I figured the first one was a fluke, so I attacked it. Folks, let me tell you.... "A Skelaton" in Najena, even though it conns blue, means something that I can't describe. "A Skelaton" wiped me up, same deal, 50 something hits. And this time, I died 2 more times getting my corpse back. By then, I had spent my 3 hours that I could spend all in Najena, and I had lost 2 and a half gold bars of XP. I know some people have a good ole time in Najena, but me......
I HATE NAJENA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

with my 35 druid i got killed here once or twice. The magicians, espescially those in the magician rooms, like to help each other out. You could solo if you stick to the things nearish the front of the dungeon, otherwise get a group. even i am afraid to go in without a group.
As for getting a group, sometimes there's people in there, sometimes there isn't. Your best bet is to get a group in a densely populated zone and ask a friendly druid to port you to LS.

Yes, you can probably solo fairly easily. There are 2 factors to remember if you do tho.

1) Trains. Numerous mobs like to jump in and help.

2) 20 minue spawn Timer. Don't overextend yourself just because you are bored. If you go too deep looking for more fun stuff you will get fairly deep in before hitting something nasty and likely not be able to make it back.

3) High levels present. Because of camping and Epic items being present here, there are likely to be mages here of disordinately high levels. They will probably help you if asked nicely.

Questions about soloing
# Aug 01 2001 at 10:42 AM Rating: Default
So, I'm a 19th level necro (Deepone on 7th Hammer) and was thinking about going to NJ around 20th.

Questions: first, is it safe to solo here at that level? Second, what's the loot like at that level? Would you suggest other places for better loot?

I'm in a tough spot because I can't buy/sell except in Kunark, but I was thinking of binding myself in Lavastorm (can I?) and then going go NJ.
