Najena, a dungeon located in the southeast part of the Lavastorm Mountains, is named after one of the more notable magicians of Antonica.

You'll need to pick up various keys to get around this place:

- Guard's Keyring (dropped by ogre guards and Moosh) opens prison cells.
- Shiny Metal Key (dropped by the Guard Captain) opens the first cell leading to Rathyl.
- Dull Bone Key (dropped by BoneCracker) opens Rathyl's cell.
- Bloodstained Key (dropped by Rathyl & Drelzna) opens Drelzna's room
- Golden Crescent Key (dropped by Drelzna and Najena) opens Najena's room.

Just verified... about "A skeleton", and also the Key holder
# Jul 24 2001 at 7:39 AM Rating: Default
I had a friend who looted a no drop item... i shouted that if I could get some help with getting a Noblemans Hilt and the guy said he'd sell it to me. He asked why as he didn't know what it was for. I said its for a paladin quest, he offered me 20pp. Then I said its no drop. And he ran in circles cursing around me, he was a warrior. He said he got it off "A skeleton". He said that his group had tough time with it too. The hilt is last of my items to get for the Sword Of Nobility quest (Ghoulbane). I've fought about 3 of these skeletons. The first one i thought was green till it hit me in the 60's. I conned it and it was red! But I already had it down to half. Never used LoH. Just slash, then bash with an immediate Ward undead so that if bash is successful, he'll feel the ward undead without interruption. I don't recommend soloing them though as downtime soloing them with my lvl 22 paladin gets long cuz he got me down to 2 bubbles hp, and Ward Undead takes a LOT of mana to use.
I killed a mob today and it dropped a key... Dont remember what i killed but i've only killed skeletons and some elementals... but i'm pretty sure it was an Ogre who dropped that key, whatever its used for I dont know. More interested in Hilt so i can finally hold my ghoulbane

Hilt
# Jul 21 2001 at 9:06 PM Rating: Default
The skeletons do still drop the hilt, right? I've killed about 20 of them in different spawn points and I haven't got it yet. They are easy to kill with a 30 druid...all low blue/high green. I have all the other pieces for the Ghoulbane quest, except this one. I hope the drop isn't bugged. =(
RE: Hilt
# Aug 03 2001 at 6:43 AM Rating: Default
The one that drops the hilt most regularly is the one in the very back between the pond outside of najenas lair and the widowmistresses area. He dropped it for me about 1 every three kills and is on a 10 minute timer. He appears to be the same mob that used to spawn at the very entrance and have the same loot table. pain to get to if you aren't at least 30 as everything between the entrance and the spawn location is aggro. i have done the quest about 8 times for all the pallies i know, and twice just to sell it. good xp all around from about 31-37 as a cleric.

P.S. if you really ask nicely i am more than willing to do the quest for you for 250pp thats my sell price for the sword. :)

New Skellies
# Jun 28 2001 at 10:15 PM Rating: Decent
Have they changed the spawn sites for the skeletons? I went in there today to get the hilt for the ghoulbane quest and could only find one spot where they spawned, and I was in there for an hour.
RE: New Skellies
# Jul 03 2001 at 3:17 PM Rating: Decent
Yup... the patch killed three of the four spawn spots, and lowered the Skeleton from around level 30 to closer to level 25. He was almost always green to my level 36 Paladin, where he used to be blue and great solo hunting/experience.

I went in To Najena yesterday to retrive the Hit of the Nobleman for the Ghoulbane quest. I went in as a 23rd lv Pally and walked out 1hr later 24. True the skellys con red and yellow to me but thorny barrier buff and ward undead does a great job against these guys. Didnt have much of a problem at all...I campped the "a Skeleton" for quite a bit and not once did i use LoH. Quite a great place for exp and money. However, I would suggest going in with a party as there are lots of other things in there I wouldnt consider even attacking. Just my 2cp worth..)

As a level 21 dwarf pally and doing the ghoulbane quest, we should all know that past level five black and blue cons meen you might live if your lucky. I suggest hiring someone to just kill them for u. I havent entered najena yet but i am studying the maps and these submissions and come to find that the exp percentage in this place isnt worth the painful storries i have heard about the place. And why would a level 15 person just stroll in. They cant get past the first tough skellies alone, and the tentakle terrors hit like ****. just a warning to those who are wanting to enter najena or do the ghoulbane quest.

new rules
# Jun 16 2001 at 9:12 PM Rating: Decent
Because of the change in the Paladin Ghoulbane quest Najena had some changes. The new lvl 29-30(all were blue to a lvl 31 mage) skeletons now drop the nobleman's hilt for that quest.

Another change I encountered was that Rathyl isn't the holder for the key to Drelzna's cell anymore. Rathyl is now a quest NPC for the above mentioned quest.
There is an earth elemental in the spot where he used to spawn, but my group didn't get the chance to see if it dropped the key.

Can someone please find the new holder of the key and post it here?

many thanks.

Wow, okay I thought that maybe the wine was getting to my head. I went in there shortly after the patch with my almost 40 cleric, fully buff'd, and met a skel who was hitting me for 50 a pop. I didnt take too kindly to this so I killed it, took a little longer. I am glad to hear that something was actually done to the dungoen, as opposed to maybe food poisoning or something similar.

I'm lvl 24 magician and went in yesterday. The `a Skeleton' con'd red. It's not in the Bestiary and I was more than a little surprised. That was right after entering the dungeon with no back up and being very alone.

The skeleton locations have changed slightly from the posts above. I have found three spawns called "A Skeleton", one in a room by the elementals on the top floor near the ogre campfire. The other two spawn in an area that's past the Najena sign, the first open area on the left with stairs going down. These skeletons have an insane aggro range and hit quickly for their level. The most damage I've sustained in one hit was 65. In any event, the spawns by the stairs (loc 80, neg60) seem to drop the hilt the most, although the one in the room did drop it once while I was there. Good luck and I hope this helps.

The Skelly that drops the quest item for the Sword of Nobility quest is named "A Skeleton". It is around level 27, and there are two that spawn at the entrance to Najena. That mob drops the "Hilt of Nobility", a no drop lore item. The drop is a random drop, and it took me 7 kills to actually get a Hilt. Not super rare, but fairly rare. Good xp, though.

Advise going in as a group, and Invisiblity to Undead before zoning in. Spook the Dead combined with Ensnare make a good combination.
Tough Skeles
# May 31 2001 at 7:44 PM Rating: Decent
The Skeletons for Ghoulbane quest are tougher than they con by far. Shredded me (27 Druid) the instant I zoned in. I zoned out with 2hp. They managed to hurt some higher levels bad and obliterate some resting newbies.

I just tried to solo here as I heard a 32nd could do it quite easily, I should have checked here first, DOH! Made it past the first tuff skel and it wasn't too bad when it was on its own. After I healed I carried on to the first tentacle room thinking they would be easy meat....NOT! As soon as I entered the room the one furthest away hit me with 125pt dam spell with knockback that sent me flying and he was attacking me again plus with another of the tough skels with him, must have been behind the TT cuz I didnt see it, to shred me good. Barely made it to zone and healed up before trying again. When I zoned back the tentacle had gone but the skel was waiting for me and jumped me as soon as I zoned in. I couldn't quite kill it this time so I had to zone again...when I tried again this time I got the jump on him and almost had him beat when he ran, unlike most skels...right to his buddy that had now respawned...argh! Died that time cuz they run fast![selo don't work in there u Bards]I ended up getting my foot in the door by charming one and having it attack the other hehe then killing the other with chain/fear. Make a long story short I never made it past the first tentacle room...managed to get a whip out of it at least by charming the skel and having it kill the tentacle...but I'd say it's definately NOT an easy dungeon to solo like it says for a level 30 and up.

Hope my little story will prepare you a little bit for what you're in for. Good Luck!

Aarnon 32 Song Bard

btw a 16th Monk came in while I was looting my corpse, while getting whipped on by the waiting skel, and he had to zone within about 5 seconds...I finished it off and while medding he came back in and ran into skel number 2 and trained it back to the zone where I was and we both zoned...all he said was as he was running away was "I thought this was a level 16-20 Dungeon?!" LOL nuff said.

Ok. I have frequented Najena enough to notice (the hard way) this wonderful new addition to one of my favorite places to just hang out. Most of the stuff in the dungeon is green or maybe blue to me.

I am a lvl 24 wizard and it has conned like that since 20. A nice low key place to hang out when you don't want to get too serious. Plus you get the higher lvl farmers always looking for one or two things that they will pay well for since they don't want to be bothered with it.

I was in there the other day with my friend(lvl 25 mage) just scoping out how far we could go inside. I gated out for some reason and when I went to come back in I noticed a skele at the door. No biggie I thought. That was until my cloth wearing, no HP, caster butt got whooped! In a matter of seconds my health was dropped to a sliver. (BTW from what I can tell, they hit for a max dmg of 59pts exactly, just fast)

From the way they conned to me and my friend, I figured that they were lvl 27~30. That's a Verant Special if I ever saw one. Placing a lvl 30 quested mob right at the entrance of a dungeon with lvl 30 as it's cap. Sure, don't make those bucket head pally's look for their item. Just stick it at the front door for them making it so no one else can just waltz in to this place and get exp at the right lvl.

(BTW you don't need someone with 1400 or whatever HP. If they don't catch you off guard these bags of bones can be taken down fairly quickly. Between the wizard and the mage we took it down in less than 30 seconds. Keep in mind that's only one and there are two of them. A melee would have been nice. Oh well, we killed them.)

I think it's pretty short-sighted to declare that Najena has some sort of declared "level cap" and that you know what the "right level" for this dungeon is. It's Verant's game; they're the ones who created Najena in the first place. Who's to say that they can't change it? Who's to say that there's a "right level" for any dungeon?

Amen to all that bro. I got lucky. I made awesome xp soloing as a cleric from levels 14-19 in lavastorm/najena... and i hit 18 about the time the patch that put these suckers in went live.

I was lucky. No one else will ever be able to do that again at the level i was at unless a high level raid goes on (more common now, but Najena is still one of the least, if not the least, crowded dungeans in the game) and kills off the skele's. Anybody below 30 will almost invaribly drag these back and like it's been said, THEY DO NOT RETURN TO START THEY DO NOT PASS GO THEY DO NOT COLLECT 200 PLATINUM... they sit right at the entracne and waight for you. If you ahve at least 200 hp you can usually make it out safely, any less and your risking the two of them (their usual # right inside the najena entrance if they've been trained there) stunning you and getting the extra licks in to woop you up.
RE: Tough Skeles
# Jun 04 2001 at 5:01 PM Rating: Decent
These skeles appeared following the patch last week. The are simply named "a skeleton" and do not sit like the other skeles in the zone. They roam the halls and once trained to the zone simply stand there waiting for the next beaten up newbie to zone from Lava in an attempt to escape death. 2 of these skeles took out a group of 4 lvl 19 & 1 lvl 23 characters with 3 of us zoning and 2 dying. They were hitting for 56 points of damage. We managed to kill a few of them and found at that they run - fast - when almost dead. As a matter of fact one ran into a room and trained 3 more skeles, a troll guard and 2 tentacle terrors on us. I dropped back in the zone invis to drag the corpses back to the zone only to find both skeles standing inches from the zone line. I have hunted in here for weeks and never have seen these skeles until after the patch. This has definitely made the quests in Najena much more difficult when you encounter lvl 27-30 skeles at the front door. What's up with that? Oh, and you lose faction with Najena when you kill one of these skeles making me think they are some type of undead guardian of Najena.

We ended up recruiting a lvl 45+ fighter class with over 1100 hit points to kill the two of them with us. After he zoned out he had less than 50% of his hit points left even with all of us hacking on them.

Good Luck to all who hunt here - better bring some ammo and a good tank or two with you.

Got exp off both even though green to me. Are they always at the zone entrance now or had some trained them there? Anyways becareful zoning in here now.

Even my lvl 37 warrior has trouble here sometimes i can bareley solo trazdon(the guy that drops dark circlet for crafted greaves) and live due to 2-3 mages spawn in the same room he is and normally have damage shields and everything in that room has a stupid pet. traz and mages will probobly have damage shields on them. As for getting there just bind in freeport and when you hit nektulos go left and hug the wall you should make it out safley only thing near there are iron and rock guardians and they can be easilly avoided if your carefull.Since your a barb you proboly lvled around some shamans and made friends with em drag one of them along or any healer for that matter you should be fine

Few questions here. First, what is easiest way for a non-evil race warrior to get here and where is the nearest bind point for me? Second, I am a lvl 29 Barbarian, can I solo here or group, and if I solo, any ideas on what to fight? My main reason for coming here is an item for crafted quest, but like any EQ addict, I would love all the loot I can get. =) Last, what kind of dangers should I beware of. Thanks

I went into Najena with a few others tonight. We found about 3 reagent pouches...I belive they all dropped off Magicians. They are Magic items, but have no other tags....I personally have 2 of the pouches right now. When Identified, it says "Pouch of the Najena apprentices" or something similar. Are these new with the last patch?
