North Karana is the "nexus" of the Karana Plains. Despite the dangers of the roaming lions, wolves, bears, griffons, and occasional hill giant, this place is quite the player-friendly area: Here, you'll find a few guard watch towers for aid, a gypsy camp with vendors, and a druid ring and wizard spires for porting.

Speaking of guard watch towers, North Karana is home to what may be the most active guards in all of Norrath. The tower in the center of the zone is in the path of many a wandering animal and keeps its guards fighting off trouble on a steady basis. They win most of their battles, but occasionally lose, particularly when the opponent is an upper level hill giant, griffon, or GrimFeather.

Has anyone been to THIS zone recently?

it would appear on Saryn they are doing this again, it's sunday, april 12 2001 now. does anyone know what the outcome of this quest was, or for that matter if there was one? would seem odd that they'd play it again if it'd been solved

Who is this guy...
An NPC named
Yes... !

Anyone knows??
RE: NPC...!... Who is he??

These guys spawn in EK, not NK (at least, I have never seen them).

Whenever I saw them, they were always standing at the first T-split in the road that leads away from the wooden bridge into EK. Yes, I'm talking anoy 'them' ... if you look careful, you can see that there are TWO of them, at the very same spot, both named '!'. You can try and hail them, but they are not very talkative.

These guys are most probably caused by a bug. I have heard they have only 1 HP at most. I haven't attacked them myself, though, as I do not know what the negative impacts might be (Beta-Neutral *****-over? Verant banning you for using an exploit? Not going to risk it...)
North Karana Named NPCs
# Jan 09 2001 at 1:03 PM Rating: Decent
Named animal NPCs:
Ashenpaw - silvermist wolf
Bristletoe - brown bear
Callowwing - griffawn
Grizzleknot - grizzly bear
Grimfeather - griffon
Swiftclaw - lioness

To get these to spawn, just kill lots of the normal, non-named types. Be careful: if the normal types con blue-to-yellow, the named one will probably kick your ***.

Grimfeather, for instance, is 3-5 levels higher than normal griffons, run at SoW speed *WHEN SNARED*, and hits for 100+ damage.

Swiftclaw /con'd green at 24th level but still aggro'd.

The named NPCs will /assist others of its type and vice versa. ALSO ... the druids/treants of the zone will aggro on anyone fighting at least some of these mobs - I don't think you get attacked for Grimfeather, Callowwing, or Swiftclaw ... but I'm almost certain you do with Ashenpaw and Bristletoe.

Tiny Skeletons: Talk to Watchman Dexlin when he spawns (it's like once or twice a real day, AFAIK). You need crazy-high faction with the Gemchoppers ... and you get Watchman's Boots at least some of the time when you complete the quest. I know people who farm these boots. The skellies are impossible to see at night, hit hard, have high HP ... and so if you're trying to farm the boots, be prepared to warn the zone a lot or get any lowbies in-zone killed.

Timbur, Zahal/Regis, the shackle-droppers .. I don't know about. Heh.

I came up very close to the withered treant and hailed it. he sends you on a quest to find three peeps to the north in mountains area and to lake area. I have not figured out who he is refering to. i know he is asking you to bring the 3 plague bringers back to him for something. To hail him, you have to be right up on him.

The withred treant is part of the Druid Epic Quest - you need to collect 3 items for him to get his Pulsating Treant Heart for a part of the quest.

griffene downfeather
# May 16 2000 at 1:20 PM Rating: Decent
take griffene downfeather, mammoth rib bone(found off mammoths in everfrost), and crushed dufrenite(dufrenite can be bought in halas for 150pp, then crushed for you by an npc in lake rathe) to an npc(forgot name) and you get totemic gauntlets.
RE: griffene downfeather
# May 26 2003 at 9:46 PM Rating: Decent
The location I'm not sure of, but the NPC's name is Vrynn, and you need to give him:

Mammoth Rib Bone (said)
Crushed Dufrenite (said)
Griffene Downfeather (said) and
Banded Gauntlets

He returns to you:

Totemic Gauntlets
AC: 11
Int: +5 Sv Cold: +5

I would love to know the name and location of the npc you return these items to (as well as the npc needed in lake rathe) if anyone knows this! Thanks
Those pelts
# Apr 08 2000 at 11:16 AM Rating: Decent
The superb pelts combined with the right pattern make the items you want. They monsters directly may drop them, but you can make if you have a very good tailor skill. So if you have a master tailor friend, five the pelt and pattern to him, and hope for the best.
Guards
# Apr 02 2000 at 1:37 PM Rating: Decent
I killed guards prior to their nerf. They used to be lvl 23-24. Had normal resists. Now they are around 34 have resists up the ying yang. Even with Tashaia.

As for faction Its Bad with Guards and mostly everyone in qeynos. I am VERY kos. I went into BB let my weak enc pet race around killing stuff while i Gfluxed them. I still cant walk qeynos without invis.

Where doesthe Tiny the Timbur spawn in the zone ?
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 01 2000 at 12:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hey, isn't Xon Quexill the necro guildmaster in Neriak? Perhaps I have the wrong guy but I though the name sounded familiar...
Grimtooth
# Mar 29 2000 at 11:16 PM Rating: Decent
Grimtooth stumbled over my group the other day, after dispatching him I found the iron shackles on him, instead of Korvik the Cursed mentioned earlier. Any info on what its used for would be greatly appreciated.
Zahal the Vile and Regis the Reverent
# Mar 27 2000 at 1:01 PM Rating: Decent
Zahal the Vile spawns roughly every 8 hours. He can spawn anywhere on the western side of the zone from the northern farm houses to the wizard spires. He will roam the zone in between this general location. He is around level 30 and is a ghoul. Your best bet is to hang around the guard tower and sense undead every few minutes. Once you locate Zahal and kill him, Regis the Reverent will immediately spawn at exactly 1500, -1500. This is along the northern part of the zone by the tree line. You need to have one person hunting Zahal and another person to kill Regis because druids and clerics like to hang out at Regis' spawn location and wait for him to pop after Zahal is killed. They loot the items and gate out or run and are gone by the time the person who killed Zahal gets to Regis' spawn location. If you do not have someone helping you, you need to kite Zahal to Regis' location and then kill him to ensure that no one else kills him when he spawns.
