Befallen was once the site of a wonderful temple, a reclusive home for the monks who maintained it.

Many blame the dark elves for what it has become, but whatever the cause, Befallen is now a home to the undead its inhabitants used to hunt and destroy. Individuals who thrive on these beings have also taken up residence in its halls, necromancers and shadow knights.

Various keys are (were) obtained and required to move to the lower levels of this zone.

I found the first key but have they moved the others? I can not find the mob that drops the second key.
RE: KEYS??
# Aug 16 2001 at 9:06 AM Rating: Default
On the Bristlebane server we have the old Befallen currently up..(no drow infestation).

The keys should be dropping from generally the same mob areas as before...the second key drops from a shadowknight in the room accross from the locked room that leads to the mob that drops the barbed arm plates I believe...

Then again...I often just gate back to my bind point after going down the well.

I'm a lvl 15 ogre shaman. My exp in Befallen has been more than beneficial. I went from lvls 13-15 there in about 3 hours and came out with about 400pp. I wish I had known about the place before, becasue I would have lvled a lot faster through my lower lvs. To think that I was in WC. So close to Befallen the whole time and I never knew about it. I plan to stay there untill my low twenties for the exp is incredible. I was never there before the so calleed "changes" occured, but whatever the changes were, for better or for worse, Befallen is truly Heaven on Earth.

Not the same anymore, the new version is better I would say.

The spawn rate is faster and lot's of nice loot, came here with some friends with a lvl 15 Warrior alt of mine and stayed near the ent and the exp and loot were good.

Anyone around the 15-20th level should come here with a good group.

I am relatively new to the game so i haven't seen the big money that people have in the tunnel. but i can make like 30pp an hour lootin the stuff some people leave behind and soloin the monsters correctly on the first floor. I must say i am in love with this place and i will spend plenty of time there. If your are ever in the area with me be glad to group wit ya! Kuldawen 17th season ranger

My good friends and I have started adventuring in this dungeon. We have a level 18 warrior, 19 warrior, 20 paladin, 19 necromancer, 19 magician, and I am a level 20 druid. ( another friend is level 20 ranger so we have to switch off and on) We were on last night, 8-6-01 and we have to keep our heads about us just pulling on the first floor. I remember hearing about this being an up to level 20 place to hunt but we had some close calls on the first floor with all members around level 19. It certainly has not gone back to the easy zone it used to be. It is a good place for a good group to work together and get xp and cash. I can see why if your in a bad group, you would hate this place.

Trains are going to happen, so you have to count on them. What is the first thing you try to do when you realize that you are about to die, you run to other players for help. I have a rule that you should always help unless helping will get you killed or a party member killed. Simple rule to live by. My friends and I enjoy the zone, there is excitement and a good challenge for us.

Last night myself and a couple of pals went to camp the first floor SK for the key to the first door. This guy used to spawn every 20 minutes or so, but we spent nearly 3 HOURS there and did not see him once. Dark followers and reinimated corpses(?) did spawn where he should have in the bedroom and we were killing them thinking they were placeholders, but to no avail. Can anyone clarify if he does still spawn?

I was just down there about a month ago working my lockpicking up to 200 (from about 10). I didn't notice whether or not anything saw through my invis, but it might have been because they were all super green to me and were afeared of my love.

Anyway, in my experience, relatively few things can see through sneak-hide. Dragons do, at least the ones I've had the pleasure to meet. Loathling Liches in Hate do, which sucks for CR. I can't remember and undead critter (other than the liches) who can see through sneak-hide. The golems in LGuk saw through it a couple of times. But the most important thing to remember is that if a mob is red enough to you, he has a chance to see through it. Always con the mob before you get close to it when you're sneaking...that'll let you know if he can see ya and is a threat.

Hope this helps.

Based on my recent near death experience its the pets that can see invis. I am not 100% certain but thats the first thing that hits me when I am sneak/hiding and trying to pick the lock on the door.

Spent last nite in Befallen... mostly doing CR for lowbies who were raiding. It IS a tougher dungeon now, but not impossible. I watched a mid teens, primarily tank/Cleric group make a stand and hammer back a tide of ghouls, rats and worse.

While most of the loot has been nerfed to No Drop, the cash has been made more available and the items that DO drop are regular drops off of reguar spawns.

All in all, stil la scary place but not nearly as lethal if you keep your wits about you.

The befallen I remember was fully of skellies....and rats. Not this dark elf stuff that is in it now. This may be the old befallen, or the new befallen, I don't know. But when I went there on my wizzie at lvl 11, I didn't have that much trouble. Sure, I died a few times from 11-15, but it wasn't bad. And people generally stuck to the level (floor) that was for their level. You saw a few higher levels camping things on the 3rd floor, but that is where some rarer drops were I believe, so who cared really anyhow. Today, I just logged off (Morrell Thule server) because I got so disgusted. A bunch of 30-60 level people camping the first floor. And then this idiot pulls a huge train from every single room, then zones, leaving us lower levels to deal with the aftermath. A party member died after getting rooted by said train and pounded on. My healing (Light...not yet to Healing) didn't help a bit. Seems this isn't a lower level dungeon anymore, but now one where you must be in your twenties to be able to handle it. I, for one, wish it would go back to just hte rats and skellies. Go ahead, call me an idiot, flame me, whatever, but I'm only speaking my opinion. You probably would do well to go in with some people you trust though, and clerics are a must still (cured disease about 10 times in 20 minutes). Oh, and that high level jerk who pulled the entire first floor? He was outside begging me to heal him because he didn't want to waste his mana (he was a ranger). I let him die from disease much like he killed my friend :)

OMG Elizor your such a friggin newbi. Get a clue before you post alot of nonsense. Befallen was almost always empty before the changes. Its been like that for 2 1/2 years, thats why Verant changed it. This is because of the locked doors and all the mobs see invis. CR was a pain in the ***. The loot was crap. The only class's that liked the place before were Clerics, Necros and maybe SKs.

You think the high levels are there to farm that newbi crap Lol. They are there because they need that junk for quests. Its MUCH better now for teens and 20's. How many level 20 mobs in the game drop over a plat and gems worth 3 plat? Its a great place for a newbi to get plat now.

"OMG Elizor your such a friggin newbi. Get a clue before you post alot of nonsense."

Well, that tells me I am going to get a reasoned rational response, right off the bat. /sarcasm

"Befallen was almost always empty before the changes. Its been like that for 2 1/2 years, thats why Verant changed it. This is because of the locked doors and all the mobs see invis. CR was a pain in the ***. The loot was crap. The only class's that liked the place before were Clerics, Necros and maybe SKs."

Come again? If they changed it because it was empty, why didn't they get rid of the locked doors and mobs that see invis? Instead they made them nastier! Zounds! Your logic is unique, I'll say that for it. So far, you're batting about what I expected: .000

"You think the high levels are there to farm that newbi crap Lol. They are there because they need that junk for quests."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAAA! ROFLMAO!! Did you type that with a straight face? With the exception of a couple of people that ask about the monk quests, none of the posters here seem to be very interested in quests, it's all 'I stayed here for x hours trying to get uber_drop00 and all i got was hundreds of plat in cash..' Wah. And judging from the lack of people (of any level) I saw cooperating, it would appear that selfish greed is the great motivator behind most of the people I saw in this zone. As for the rest, you know who you are, and kudos to you!

"Its MUCH better now for teens and 20's. How many level 20 mobs in the game drop over a plat and gems worth 3 plat? Its a great place for a newbi to get plat now."

Ah-HA! Now we see, you are a high-level powergamer. Anything under 30 is 'newbie.' BUT you obviously missed my point since you probably never played those levels, but were powered through them. My point is this: there are very few dungeons for characters around level 10-14. Like none now.

Hey, Befallen's a great place for people of just about any level to get plat... including high level farmers. If you really think that I'm wrong, please, prove it. Post a list of all the quests (aside from the red sash) that characters in their 40's and 50's must do here. And this time, USE YOUR NAME. Or is posting anonymous flames with faulty logic all you know how to do? Rest assured, I'm going to research all these "non-newbie" quests for 40th-50th level characters.

The way I see it, I called you on your bottom-feeding and you don't like it. Well tuff.

>My point is this: there are very

>level 10-14. Like none now.

Nonsense. There's Crushbone which is VERY good for those in low to mid teens (in fact I would say 7 to 17 is viable for Crushbone). There's also Unrest yard trash and 1st-floor pulls (though that may be a bit ambitious at the level range you specified). And though I've never been, I hear people in that range could do all right in The Warrens also (the anti-bottomfeeding code there should make you happy).

But all that is really beside the point. What the guy above was saying is that Befallen is an under-used dungeon, which is true. Most low-level dungeons are, to some extent; few actual lowbies* do lowbie dungeons anymore with the exception of Crushbone. The only ones who do lowbie dungeons are high level farmers who collect the lowbie gear and sell it to the lowbies who, for whatever reason, are unwilling to adventure in the dungeon themselves (yard trash groups don't count as adventuring in a dungeon :P). I guess there are just too many easy and safe outdoor zones for people in their teens to have much interest in dungeons at all and the increased risk of death associated with them. They hear Oasis or LOIO is "the" place to be, so that's where they go. Who cares if there's 85 people in each of those zones and Befallen is empty.

That's why Befallen was changed. If low-level people aren't going to use it, might as well give it to players who will. And that's why other lowbie dungeons will soon follow suit (by actual statement of Verant).

A: Crushbone is not a dungeon.

B: A newbie is a player who is new to the game.
A lowbie is a low lvl char, not necessarily played by a player who is new to the game.

i.e. Newbie is a subset of the class lowbie.

C: Befallen rocks now, and my guess is Verant changed it to promote the idea of group play- MMORPG - multiplayer for a reason, and the reason ISN'T so you can solo a lvl 25 dungeon with your lvl 60 Ranger, twink your lvl 2 and then do a Fashion ShowOff for your acquaitances to make them jealous, although that is certainly done:)

Wanna do Befallen? Get a freakin group!

And, btw- the Ranger who wanted you to heal him so he wouldn't have to "waste his mana", and you let him die like your friend died in the train he pulled? ROFLMAO, I don't even care if it's a true story or not. (this for whoever it was told that one, obviously - I am too lazy to go find that one again and name names) GREAT IDEA and GREAT STORY- too many idiots training that zone who don't seem to have the guts or integrity to DEAL WITH IT or the sense to stick to what they can handle- so suddenly THEIR stupidity becomes YOUR problem!?!!?! I was lucky enough to hit Befallen as a level 8-10 cleric before the change (it was awesome experience), and last night as a Level 17 cleric after the change (awesome loot). Bad pathing and agro through walls has not changed, the dungeon design is still pitifull, but it is still a great place for a lowbie cleric to solo.
Best strategy I have found in this dungeon is to run to zone if you accidently pull too much. Expect other people to do the same.
There are 5 static spawns of dark followers in the entry way of which there seems to be 3 types.
1. A DE Rogue female, dual wielding rusty daggers.
Her backstab hurts so walk backwards if you need to move away.
2. A DE Warrior male, usually with a rusty 2 hander. He is a pushover.
3. A DE Necro male, usually with a cracked staff and a Lore Robe. He can be a problem. He will cast Clinging Darkness, Boiling Blood, Poison Bolt, Disease Cloud and Strip enchantment, (sometimes in the same fight). Apply a rubbish buff before taking him on or you will loose SOW or whatever buffs you have. Have Cure Disease and Cure Poison available. Knock him down hard with before any of the others if you get a multi-pull.
These guys are bad news .... But ... the loot, the Phat Lewt from them is brilliant for a plat poor teenager. As soon as you kill one of these chaps, loot the corpse (you will get a few gold) and zone. You can only have one Robe (it is Lore). Head due north out of the entrance to the Inn over the hill. Dont bother with the closest shop as she has strange faction and doesnt give good prices (to me anyways). Expect your Robe to sell for 2pp and the cracked staff for 1pp.

When pulling the entrance dark followers, the ones on the left side cause less agro as their pathing will take them straight up the stairs and they are not near spawns in ajoining rooms.

Finally if you see someone running for zone being chased by 19 mobs, who hasnt had time to /shout a warning, don't be too hard on them, it could easily be you if you play here for any length of time.

Befallen has some 1.9k items in there and they cannot see you when your invis there on any level, its funny when ppl bash newbies and they dont even know theirselves
RE: Its much better now

Most of the higher end items (Veil of Vortex weaver, Pristene leather, etc...) are NO DROP (cant be farmed or sold) and they are rare to very rare (have yet to primordial ritualist or veil drop yet in a week or so).

Undead sees invisible. If you were Invisible, you might just not have tripped the aggro radius on them.
Temporary Changes
# Jul 27 2001 at 5:06 PM Rating: Decent
The question is, are these changes temporary or permanent? The ongoing plotline suggests more changes might be in the offing. Unfortunately, I never noticed Befallen during the time I was the appropriate level, as I was doing the Crushbone/Unrest/NRo thing for way too long. So I never got to experience the "old" version.

As for the new...ny ranger is now 21st and my enchanter 34th, but I have to echo the complaint I've heard elsewhere... there are not enough dungeons to adventure in during the lower levels. Nor are there enough good quests for mid-teens. And soloing is just getting more and more impossible. Finding groups with lower level players is so...iffy. I don't remember it being so hard to find players with SOME clue in Crushbone. Unrest, everyone grouped, but a few were clueless. The time two group members decided to duel next to the entrance, and couldn't get control of their pets back when we got trained comes to mind....

But right now in Befallen, there seems to be nothing but a bunch of high level PL/Farmers/soloists and a bunch of clueless mid-teen/20s types, at least on Luclin. People would come in, wouldn't respond to inquiries about grouping, ineptly cause a train and get folks killed. I haven't seen carnage like that outside of shots of Plane raids gone bad.

And grouping wasn't necessarily a solution either, thanks to the continued cluelessness of some players in the zone. Two players were standing near the top of the steps picking off the ocassional mob, and I got trained by some unknown idiot. Both of the players ignored my yells for help...in fact, one of them remained crouched down in the hall looting when I tried to run for it--he blocked my path for several seconds during which I died. His bud did a revive, but still.....

And getting a group was chancey. For instance, I finally grouped with a pair of warriors. It turned out (they claimed) to be a mother and son, the latter being SIX years old. Hyperactive and inexperienced like you'd expect, wouldnt stop running around and trained us twice. Then both disappeared....logged with no warning while I fought a mob. Some group!

After those experiences I was a bit gun-shy, but later I partnered with an 18th bard (we finally decided we could trust each other after working the same hall for a while). We never could find the key to get to the lower level, although we handled the entire floor without a single death (it was really close though). Someone opened the door for us to 2nd level, but the train that stood there waiting dissuaded us from further attempts to go below.

In short, it sounds like Befallen used to be a place where you could go to learn how to group. Now its a place where you already know how and came with one, or you're dead. And you may be dead anyway because all it takes is one 30th level idiot who thinks he can solo the whole place to train you.

Thanks a lot Verant. I thought when I was one and still do, the only thing worse than being a newbie was being a lowbie newbie. Now I know it's being a lowbie NON-newbie. You wonder why people powerlevel their alts? 'Cause they can't stand this. There _need_ to be zones in the game like the OLD Befallen.

I'm a lvl 21 cleric who made many of my lvl's soloing in befallen. I'm saddened by these changes, It's hard enough for cleric players to find places to solo in low teens, now for whatever reason the developers have scrapped the best spot.

The reason I came back to befallen was to work on cleric quest armor, but It can be adden to the impossible until useless list along with the symbol of Tunare quests. Thanks for ********-up another quest and zone!

New Place / New Tactics
# Jul 25 2001 at 2:02 PM Rating: Decent
The New Befallen (Dark Elf Stronghold) takes tactic now.

You have to Know the Aggro Radius of each mob, respawn times (5mins), etc. You have to move SLOWLY and solo pull, kill it, move to next mob, solo pull. kill it, etc...).

YOu have to stay close and tight, hug the walls, etc. If your in a group, keep members from wandering. And you have to use the same tactics to get out (unless gate option).

Using these tactics, I have been able to SOLO 3rd Floor from 30 to 31 Mage (guards still blue).

What is deadly in this zone is the Newbie that runs in, aggros everything and then trains it all back to the zone.

If you are lvl 19-21, you can go through first locked door, and pull the Defiled Corpse's and kill them, 1pp a peice, and 1 or 2 at a time. You have to watch out for the 2 rooms though, both have powerfull casters in them. The best is when a group is int he room to the left, keeping that room clean and the room to the right. I made 50pp in 4 hours and also went from 19 to 20.

Went back last night(10th)and the place was empty. Only Skellies on first floor. I invised vs undead and roamed around. Nothing like the 5th, everything green. Wassup. Did they switch it back to the old Befallen? Bummer. At 19 I was getting good exp on second floor. Just speculating but the switch back may have been due to the monk Red Sash quest. The quest requires a blackened wand from the lower level of Befallen. Since this is a mid 20's quest any monk attempting to retrieve it from the souped up Befallen would have been toasted in no time. So, I think this is why it was switched back.

Just a few corrections on this post I have a 17 rogue that just went through the short time of the new befallen (and hes really hoping that it changes back again to the harder level)

On the arisen knights they were conning a low blue to a high blue to me putting them at about 14-17. They are one of the easier mobs on the second floor. These are all of the warrior class. Never seen one drop less than plat. These spawn in the "spike room" on the second floor and the area around it.

Reanimated corpses are the ones that you dont reaslly want to mess with at my level. They aggro at anything that moves and the aggro radius is VERY large. They con low blue to high blue also putting them at about the same levels as the arisen knights. Again these only come in warriors, but if you are surrounded you will most likely die as they root and it is always at the worst times. These almost never drop lower than 1 plat and also are an early jewelers dream for the gems. These spawn in the second floor hallway behind the first locked door and if you aggro one you will aggro them all, beware.

The scarred initiates in actuality are only about 12-14 since they can only HT between 121 and 141. They conned anywhere from high green to low blue to me but even then at green I was only left with half of my life. These are very nasty. I believe these only come in Shadow Knight, Necro, and Cleric. The clerics are very annoying paired along with a necro as you will be losing life and they will just be gaining it. They have a large mana supply That you probably wont drain until the end when they are about to die. These drop bronze, and fine steel weapons good loot for such a low mob. Most notable spanw points for these are in the back of the first hallway by the skull wall, and behind the first door on the right on the first floor.

Dark followers are about 8-12 Not the hardest but they can stack on the DDs and DoTs like any seasoned necro. The warriors are quite easy they dont hit hard, and the rogues backstab sometimes around 40-50. These drop rusty and sometimes bronze weapons, and also 0 - 12 gold. These spawn all over on the first floor.

I have many scores to settle with the arisen thaumaturgist he is very nasty indeed, and like the Reanimated corpses he has a very largeaggro radius. I would say around 21-24 since he was red to my rogue. DDs hurt very badly around half of my life was gone before I knew what was hitting me. He will always aggro anything around you on his way down also so he doesnt come alone. Drops around four plat each time. This one spawns in the first room on the left behind the first door.

Arisen Overseer is one of the nastiest that I have met. Around 22-28 Enc so it will charm you to attack your friends. Always brings his pet. I got charmed by him a few times but once I started attacking a level 50 mages pet and it wasnt a pretty sight. One of the hardest for the top level also since he is always trained up to there. I have only gotten the chance to loot him once and it was after someone else did. I got a plat ring with not too good of stats and a shield with not too good of stats. Dont mess with this one if you can help it.

This is all that I have noted that is new in Befallen , it is great exp and loot but dont plan on going in there if you are under level 13. And even at 13 you need a full group to hold up on the first floor. I would say about 17 for the second floor with a full group but you will need higher level casters for that group also probably around 20-21.

Well I hope this will help people in befallen survive longer in there. And remember all the corpses lined up on the first floor add a nice touch to the place.

Well, this eve in Befallen we got the message that Befallen was going to be reopened in 5 minutes, go find some safe place to hide. As the message continued to count down the minutes, we wondered what would happen. Much to the suprise of everyone in the zone..... Its back to the SAME OLD Befallen. The whimpy skeles and rats are back up top. Ghouls and ice bones with the necros down below. Huh. Seems all the new items are gone with the new mobs. All the old items are there. Also, seems the spawn rate might have been up for the SK's. We waited an hour for the troll to spawn with no PH that spawned while we waited. We gave up and left ;)
