Shar Vahl is the city that the Vah Shir call home. The Vah Shir originally lived on Norrath on the continent of Odus, but during a great battle, the blast that created the Hole on that continent sent a huge chunk of rock from the planet, which came to rest on the moon of Luclin. The Vah Shir decided to build their home on the crater this created, using the new crater walls as a natural defense, and adapted quickly to the planet that they now reside on.

Task, available at level 11:
You say, 'Hail, Khala Dun Erelk'
Khala Dun Erelk says 'We are not the [task] masters, but simply the task providers. Those who have the desire to help Shar Vahl are placed into situations that best suit them. We prefer to think of it as a job for the soul and a journey through life.'
You say, 'What task do you have for me?'

One of the choices is Bugs in the Dirt, Medium duration but no timer.

You have been assigned the task 'Bugs in the Dirt'.

Enemies are always closer then you think, aren't they? That's exactly what you're going to learn on your journey today. They're much closer then you think so there's no time to waste. Just speak with Talsanna Deephaven, for information on exactly what you need to do get to the bottom of this dilemma.

Reward(s):
1 platinum, 3 gold, 6 copper
You gain experience!

Speak with Talsanna Deephaven 0/1 (Shadeweaver's Thicket)

You say, 'Hail, Talsanna Deephaven'
Your task 'Bugs in the Dirt' has been updated.
Talsanna Deephaven says 'Thanks for contacting me, ________. Your information on this matter has been most useful.'

By now you're beginning to understand the complexities of the situation aren't you? You're learning how problematic it can be to have to fight off your cohorts when they go bad. Sadly, you're going to have to take the road less travelled and kill 10 muck diggers,. Sometimes it's not the easiest way, but it's got to be done.

Kill 10 muck diggers 0/10 (Paludal Caverns)
Glowing muck diggers count as well.

Then there are times when those you slaughter weren't friends at all. It's a shame you had to be deceived like that, but those mongrels were causing too many problems. Now you are ready to face the threat of someone even closer than before. You need to kill 10 mud burrowers,. Wipe them out. In addition, they're holding very sensitive items that need to be recovered. While you're out cleaning up the mess, make sure you loot 4 Mud Burrower Carapace,.

Kill 10 mud burrowers 0/10 (Paludal Caverns)
Loot 4 Mud Burrower Carapache 0/4 (Paludal Caverns

Once again you have proven that you can take the hard assignments and come out without a scratch. It's quite an accomplishment and it means you're almost done. Just deliver 4 Mud Burrower Carapace to Tesmina Boerak to finish everything off.

You really didn't know those who you were forced to slay, did you? No matter, they needed to go anyway, and you just happened to be the object of their demise. You did a clean, thorough job and you should be proud of the work you did. Here's a bit of a reward for the nightmares you're bound to have from this. Try to sleep soundly.

There appears to be a new NPC up near the PoD in Shar Vahl. Name is Emissary Rethly. When hailed, she basically tells you that more people have been sent to the Wayfarers camps. She also says she is unsure if they have arrived yet. She asks about the sun, which I believe is something to do with TBS. Will post more if I found out what she is there for.

Dark Elf Prisoner
# Jul 17 2005 at 9:51 AM Rating: Decent
I was poking around in the dungeon of the palace and found a jail cell door that you can not enter without a key. Being the rogue that I am I whipped out me picks and opened it lickidy split. Some dark elf prisoner and a few buddies behind bars. Don't really care for Dark Elves, but hate to see people suffer behind bars. The poor guy didn't realize that I had opened the door. He wants me to run to Katta to get the keys to his shackles. Tried to do some research on him but haven't found anything...so I guess its a trip to Katta. If anyone knows anything about this guy and his quest let me know.

Found the info. This prisoner is part of the pre-quest for the Rogue 2.0 epic, which you don't have to do if you have Ragebringer. Since I have the blade, I'm afraid that the Dark Elf will have to rot a bit longer.

Ok, saw a new mob in Shar Vahl this morning. He was down by the grimling prisoners and named _a Shar Vahl guard_. Conned red to me (52 zerker) and was indifferent. When I hailed him he "narrowed his eyes to slits" and said "Move along, Sovahn. Don't agitate the prisoners." Any idea where he came from and what he's there for? Oh yeah, I have max shar vahl faction (ally) with just about everyone else in shar vahl, so not sure what faction he belongs to etiher.

First, don't feel bad. I did the exact same thing with my Shaman.

Elam Arruk is, I believe, at loc 231, -322, -247. I.e., in the room with the Rogue Trainer, under the palace.

(All over Shar Vahl. And where was the guy? In the niche next to the Shaman trainer. Mwah.)

I'm not sure anyone knows - he may be an NPC who is nowhere around. On the other hand, now that I have Tracking 100, I am going to try to scour the city for Grilo. Any one know where i can get the gravel pit leaves from? Or what drops them? Thanks
RE: gravel pit leaves
# Apr 02 2003 at 5:28 PM Rating: Decent
Gravel Pit leaves are an obnoxiously rare drop that you can find on Young Rockhoppers in The Pit. Young Rockhoppers are more "yellow" tinted than the Needleclawed Hoppers, and a little more easy to spot. Find a big rock to perch on and just rotate, scanning among the scorps and beetles.

The leaves are used for the Shar Vahl Brewing tradeskill quest and precious little else. The Young Rockhoppers are a rare spawn, but when you see one, start looking around quick; they almost ALWAYS spawn in groups of three. They're around 3rd to 5th level or so, I believe. Tough, but not impossible for cubs. Start clearing the lower mobs (good xp if you're low-level), watch out for Tailfang (yellow scorp who summons) and they should pop about twice per hour.
Vah Shir suck

THIS DAMN CITY SUCKS. INSTEAD OF A REAL QUEST IT HAS SOME 99999999 STEP LONG BEGINNER QUEST THAT TAKES AGES TO FIGURE OUT UNLESS SOMEONE SHOWS YOU. THE VAH SHIR ARE A CRAPPY RACE AND THEY WOULD ONLY BE SLIGHTLY USEFUL IF THEY WERE ALLOWED TO BE DRUIDS OR MONKS OR SOMETHING INTERESTING. ALL THESE GUYS ARE ARE BARBARIANS THAT ARE WEAK AND HAVE FUR AND LIVE IN A SORRY, LAGGY CITY. THE STUPID CATS MIGHT BE OK IF THEY HAD 100 SAFEFALL LIKE VERANT INITIALLY ANNOUNCED SO THAT THEY COULD JUST JUMP INTO THE DAMN PIT. THE VAH SHIR SUCK AND THEY ARE AN ABORTION ON SOCIETY. I THINK ITS TIME THE ERUDITES GOT A REMATCH.
RE: Vah Shir suck
# Jan 26 2003 at 2:44 AM Rating: Excellent
Hey, hey. There's a fave race for everyone, and a fave class for everyone. You obviously don't have the appreciation needed to play a VahShir...so don't. Yeah, the newbie quest is difficult for a first-timer, but I tell you one thing...you learn the city and there was *always* someone there who was willing to show me where to go, because they'd had to do the same thing. As far as the safe-fall goes...you just learn quickly not to jump off the bridge, go down the rock walls. It still beats any other starting char's safe-fall stat. I have a VahShir Beastlord and a VahShir Bard, and they're a fantastic challenge that I enjoy playing, ALONG with my barbarian, dark elf, wood elf, high elf, and halfelf characters. If you're going to post such hateful things, perhaps you should take the quote off your signature. "Peace is Great, Harmony is Perfect" is a bit hypocritical after such mudslinging for no reason other than opinion.

Well, everyone has their favorite race...sure. However, many of these choices are made off of "ooo! they look cool" and such. Well it really doesnt matter what you look like if you can kick someone's ***. And as far as my signiture, the arrival of the Vah Shir clearly disturbs The Balance, and as a Druid I am offended by their interference. And as far as safe fall, who the hell wants to be 'ok' at something like that? You either are good at it or its useless.
RE: Vah Shir suck
# Feb 01 2003 at 3:43 PM Rating: Decent
::is scritching his head over this "balance" issue:: Vah Shir disturb.."what" balance? Having spent quite alot of time in their fair city, I can't say I have observed anything that would support any such accusations. They seem a rather benign race to me, not judging a being on looks or race but on their actions. I have befriended quite a few of them and for the most part (no race can be judged solely on a few examples, obviously, as it is made up of individuals)they seem quite honour-bound and treat fairly those that would give them the same chance.
. And as far as safe fall, who the hell wants to be 'ok' at something like that? You either are good at it or its useless.
Like hide? ::shrugs:: I am about as good at it as they are at safe fall but I don't complain. It has been useful.
I pray impart some of this wisdom to me so I may be made clearer of this balance they upset..

# Feb 01 2003 at 3:27 PM Rating: Decent
Well, the VahShir didn't "arrive." So far as storylines go, they were undiscovered and living quite happily until the Erudites opened the portal to Luclin. So if you're gonna be angry about anything, blame the Erudites for giving them access to Norrath. That Verant didn't have the VahShir come down and wipe out the Erudites is a mercy...the VahShir seem to have forgiven 'em for their sins, why can't you?

For the record, though, my druid and the other druids that I directed to your post are kinda skritching their head over your view of The Balance.

Listen. Ultimately, it's all preference. Different strokes. Whatever curdles your cream. Have fun playing. And be sure to pick on the Froglok PC genre when it comes out. I'm somehow sure that the evil froggies might be more deserving of your enmity, being a Druid and all.
The Balance (and other responses)
# Feb 02 2003 at 4:00 PM Rating: Default
The Balance, as I see it, is making sure that evil and good are on equal terms, along with everything else. For example, you see a dwarf cutting down a tree, you kill the dwarf and plant another tree, and in turn that preserves The Balance. And the reason is, that dwarf can no longer cut down trees, and you have righted his wrong. How does this apply to the Vah Shir? They chose to come to Norrath and distrub The Balance.

As far as Frogloks go, to the one that mentioned them. They arent evil, and they are probly the most good-aligned race ever, seeing as how mithaniel marr himself created them.
RE: The Balance (and other responses)
# Feb 06 2003 at 9:38 PM Rating: Decent
Hehe,

You know nothing :)
Read the histories, Vah shir came from Norrath, not Luclin, they were exiled there by the Erudites, and lived undisturbed until Humans reopened the combines Spire system again.

So by your own judgement, you (being Human) have in fact disturbed 'The Balance' by coming to Luclin, not the other way round.

In fact as a druid of Karana, my belief is that you have absolutely no understanding of balance at all, balance is about Neutrality, not stagnation, there is always new growth and change, as a druid I welcome it, knowing that it is all part of the cycle of life.

"Peace is good, nothing is perfect."

The Druid Karana was in on the Vah Shar going to Luclin. They lived in odus Stonebrourt Mount but strife amoge the cats clains broke out so Karana sent half of them to Luclin and left the others to live in strounbtout and watch over it. The Vah Shar were more skilled and wiser as they created a true town and become a civlization. So the Gods of the land were the ones who changed things and Innork has workings in LoY to balince it back out.
RE: The Balance (and other responses)
# Oct 07 2003 at 10:43 AM Rating: Decent
From what I read, there was strife between the clans, but the clan Vah Shir managed to bring peace between them all. The the war between the Heretics and the people of Erudin really exploded when Erudin casters decided to wipe out the Heretics in a major blast. That blast sent the Vah Shir to the moon and made the zone called the Hole near Paineel, home of the Heretics. The Vah Shir, now in a new land, did their best to make the most of their new life and did quite well. As for the other Kerrens, they were far enough away to avoid the blast, with some in Stonebrunt, others on Kerra Isle, and others in Eurd's Crossing. The Vah Shir were just unlucky enough to be near the Heretics when that war went "nuclear." BTW, the Vah Shir were not the first to go to Luclin, the Iksar have an ancient enemy there too, the Shissar. For all we know, they had a hand in the spires creation since there are so many in the Iksar's homelands. When the Iksar managed to defeat them, they probably closed the portal to avoid being followed, only to have it opened later by humans and others.
