Ancient city built in the twilight regions of Luclin.

Katta Castellum is the city built by the Loyalists to Tsaph Katta following his assassination attempt and the relocation of his followers within the Combine Empire to the moon of Luclin. The city is built in a strong defensive position, to hold off enemies both known and unknown.

The Katta Castellum people are surrounded by enemies. The Tenebrous Mountains holds the vampires of the Coterie, which have been infiltrating and terrorizing the city for some time. Also, the Inquisition is always hunting down the members of the city, although thankfully they are further away.

The enemies of Katta have turned the place into something of a dangerous place. Coterie assassins roam the streets in the dark places, jumping on the unwary. The undead have also been known to rise from the ground in the graveyards, powered by the enemies of this place.

Levitate spells don't work in this zone.

Katta Graveyard from the Cleric's point of view
# Sep 19 2002 at 1:48 AM Rating: Excellent
Helix, my 40 Cleric has spent a night in Katta. Here's the deal...

====

Well, it's a bit of a climb to get to the graveyard until you know your way around. Watch the slope up from the Bank, it's a doozy! The graveyard has rows of stones which you run past. Messages like "the smell of death seems to follow you" or "something clutches at your foot" shows you tripped a trap but didn't get a mob. About 1 time in 3 a fresh grave opens and a mob crawls out. You can single pull to your hearts content, no apparent repop time.

They were ALL blue to level 40, but ranged a lot in their resistance to DDs. Moldy corpses were the easiest, with reanimated skellies and apparitions being the hardest. They were not casters, and doubled for up to 80. They stun and knock back often, and have a high regen rate - you can see it ticking up if you root them (Turning of Unnatural dot could just overcome the regen).

Loot was a few plat and a piece of lore nodrop skin (collect 10 for the full body set). In an hour, I got 9 of the skins. There were also high level PCs pulling the Guards nearby for faction and xp. They never looted the corpses, so I was also able to collect pieces of the Lore Validus Custodus (sp?) stuff.

Xps were about 1 yellow in an hour of slow steady pulling, a shaman and I were usually fairly full mana. I made sure I was IVU and ran about till 1 popped. I moved to the path to avoid a double pop, then opened with Turning of Unnatural and ran outside the yard. I sometimes managed to get the first DD off before they closed to melee. I sometimes needed to SupHeal mid melee. Since I had C3, I tended to nuke to death, the DOT almost never wore off before the mob was dead.

If, while soloing, a pull went bad, I had planned to root then gate to bind, which I made sure was by the zoneline. The bank is in zone for storing the armour pieces in.

Watch this space for the writeup on the Skin Pieces quest if I try it.

First time i am in the area and i am looking around and eating food and next thing i know i am in the water. Took me a bit but after i while i found a little symbol and when i swam up to it and clicked on it, it tp'ed me back out to the bank. If this happens to you GOOD LUCK. No jk the loc is -1665 by -680 and it is through one of the little arches by the city wall.

Hope this helps.

Thraax, thank you for the post. I looked all over in the area of n1665 n680 and cannot find any little symbol, or anything distinctive (of course, one can barely see in the water here, so it's no surprise). Is/are the symbol(s) above or below the waterline? Is the loc you posted the EXACT loc, or just general? Does anyone have a more specific loc than that? I have spent about 6 earth hours swimming around down there, to no avail. As of now, my main is camped precariously at the foot of the cliff until I can figure out better how to extract him from this dilemma. TIA!!

the symbol exists its real and a favorite little secret of mine. The way to find it first time with out being in water is like this. When zoning in from twilight sea into katta be invisible, if kos. soon as you zone in walk out of zone tunnel and turn right just outside of that tower go to the right ledge and jump up onto it not over and look down the symbol on the back wall of that first chamber of the moat below is clearly visible throughthe water. And yes it ports you to the bank area near stairs.

Good luck.
Also there is a single fish in the moat no idea what its for anyone knows let me know. here . thanks .

The symbol is on the wall underwater opposite of the bridge side. Hope it helps....friend showed it to me last nite.
RE: I fell into the mot
# Aug 02 2002 at 12:19 PM Rating: Decent
Aye, the symbol is underwater. I jumped in the moat specifically to find it. I spent about 25 min swimming laps. There are archways under the water and I have only found one symbol on the wall under the archway. And yes, it does take you directly to the bank area. Good luck to you.

Are there any clever little symbols like this that take you from Bank area to upper Katta (TM zone area)? I HATE that ramp.

Is there post or FAQ that someone can point me to that discusses how to travel from The Nexus to Katta? My level 44 Paladin needs to make the trip and I've done very little traveling around on Luclin.

Thanks,

I just made the trip myself. Since this is a zone for higher levels only (40+), spending 10pp on a TL or port to the Twilight Sea should be no big deal. Then its two short, safe swims to the twisting ramp that leads to Katta.

If you are going to hunt, and I have found the grave yard to be great solo experience for my Pally, I strongly suggest you grab at least a C3, and maybe even an Aegolism before you go.

WAY TO HARD

Go to Echo -- Fungusgrove- get an invis and stay left till you see a bridge, go across it and click the portal. You will then be in Twillight Sea, run along the right wall till you see the FOrtress, that is Katta.

Here are my notes on travel between Nexus and Katta Castellum, for such help as they may be to the next traveler. I made the trip with my level 44 Paladin (Human).

Start at Nexus. Go to Shadow Haven. From Shadow Haven, go to Paludal Caverns. These steps can be performed using the maps at EQAtlas.com. You must cast SOW before you enter Shadow Haven or Paludal.

Paludal Caverns can be very dark and confusing, particularly for humans and other classes without night vision. After stumbling around in the dark for a bit, I found a friendly druid who guided me to the Hollowshade Moor zone line. At level 44, nothing in the Paludal caves aggroed.

Hollowshade Moor was easy to get through. This is an outdoor zone, so SOW can be refreshed. You start out in the SW corner and need to travel to the NE corner. Follow the edge of the lake to the center of the zone where you’ll find a road to the Grimling Forest zone line. Occasionally, a grimling aggroed and attacked me. They were all green to me and easily disposed of.

When you cross into Grimling Forest, the first structure you’ll see is a wall surrounding a small Vah Shir outpost. I was indifferent to them and had no problems using the bank. The zone line to Tenebrous Mountains is north of the outpost. It’s a small zone, so you won’t have to travel far. Avoid the grimling camps that are between the outpost and the north zone wall. The tunnel to the Tenebrous zone line is well within site of the northernmost grimling camp, but a careful traveler should be able to reach there without being chased by the entire grimling population.

Tenebrous Mountains is the most dangerous part of the journey. Essentially, you’re starting in the SE corner, and heading for the entrance to Katta at the mid-point of the west zone wall. Along the way I was attacked by a darkwing bat that was dark-blue to me. I was able to kill it, but had been taken off course, so I used /loc to find my way and was fortunate nothing else attacked. The entrance to Katta is at 0, 1800.

So far as I know, there is not a soul binder in Katta. My suggestion is to go to the bank, where you should be able to find a bind without too much difficulty. Even though Katta is a remote part of Luclin, I noticed a small but steady stream of higher level players passing through, presumably hunting in zones nearby.

This was my first time to go through Paludal and into the farther zones, so this is hardly expert travel advice. I'd welcome suggestions on better ways to travel between Nexus and Katta.

Nice Place
# May 20 2002 at 7:27 AM Rating: Good
Just figured I'd throw in my 2cp about this place. For any paladin 40-50, this is one helluva place to get some AMAZING XP. That graveyard that everyone talks about? Yup, there are undead that spawn there as you walk on the tops of the graves. They have varying levels of difficulties on them too. Muddy Corpses are the lower levels(still dark blue at my lvl 46) up to the Ghastly Apparitions(dark blue). Paladins, just have all of your buffs on, ESP. Instrument of Nife, and the following spells in your memorized slots: Healing, Instrument of Nife(never know when it will wear out in the middle of a fight), Yaulp, Root, Fear Undead, Undead Nuke of your choice, IVU (if you're lower level).

The lower levels will want to IVU and run around the graves to find pulls. The reason for the IVU is so the spawn doesn't immediately attack you. In the case that one of the harder undead spawn, just wait about 30-60 seconds and it will despawn. They just aren't worth the hassle. For the mid-forties people, run around at will and just start whacking away. Here's where Fear Undead comes in. If you're health is getting low or you are just taking too much damage, cast your Fear Undead. They will take off into the city. No, the guards won't help you. If you are fast enough, you can follow them and just fear-kite them. Of course, I use it when my health gets down to 2 bubbles. Gives me enough time to heal up to full health and chase after em to finish them off. If you're a lvl 45+, this is one great place for you if you have a DW helm. I am able to just stand at the entrance and "heal" myself mana-free with the helm and run on in for more, using mana only on Yaulps and Fear Undead. No use wasting Healing or Undead Nukes here-but have them up just in case. IF more than one spawns, Ping-Pong Fear Kite them...fear one, attack the other. When you notice the fear on the one has wore off, you'll have enough time to fear your current one and turn to focus on the returning one. As for the Assassin that "roams" the city, he can be a nasty ****, but if you're in the Graveyard, you'll "never" see him. Good luck my brothers and sisters!

BTW...the graveyard is a common spot for high level Necromancers and SK's to pull the guards to kill.

Re Bard Songs
# Feb 27 2002 at 1:30 PM Rating: Decent
This is a most curious set of interlocking puzzles. The city has unique lvl 9 and lvl 15 bard songs, but it doesn't even seem practical to travel there until you're level 30 because it's surrounded by hi-level zones, it doesn't seem that any races are born there, it doesn't seem to have a soulbinder, and the merchants won't sell to you unless you have sufficicient faction, but with whom and how to get it?

I'm getting the distinct impression that this is an "unsolved" city :)
RE: Re Bard Songs

Has anyone found these songs anywhere other than Katta.
Will I have to chance my level 17 bard running there?

I am a level 30 enchantress and went adventuring to Katta without any knowledge of the area. My friend, an Iksar Shadownight, is level 34 and he is definitely KOS in Katta. I roamed around freely for a while, then came upon the mausolium.
I unknowingly stepped on a grave and was immediately struck down by the undead. This is a high level area and you should be a high level to be here.

There are bard songs, and there are guilds for rangers thru enchanters, (not really sure which ones are NOT here), but unless your faction is good - Make that Great - they wont speak to you.

There are merchants selling hard to come by items but you really have to look hard to find some of them.

Its a great place, cant wait to go back.

I did not see a soulbinder anywhere.

I got there thru Tenebrous Mountains.

Hope this helps.

If you happen to fall in the water, there's little alcoves around the other ring wall, with little runes on the walls; Touch a rune and you get ported to a spot by the bank.
RE: The Harbor
# May 06 2003 at 8:52 PM Rating: Decent
I fell off the bridge once and almost killed myself by panicking like a newbie. A lv65 druid ported me out of the moat in the end, but I considered myself VERY lucky because NO ONE hanged around in this secluded zone these days, making you the only player in the city. Which is to say, if you trip and join the minnows accidentally while running on the bridge, you're probably on your own (suppose you have no guild buddies to turn to).

That's why SOE put an underwater teleporting device here (if only I knew the loc of it...) But hey, if you own a castle, would you build a porting device in the moat for the convenience of your enemies? And Katta people do have lots of enemies.

By the way, it didn't look like a 'harbor' to me.

P.S. Soulbinders are in every city a player can start in, plus these locations:

The Arena (right at the end of the tunnel)
The Overthere (at the end of the dock)
Firiona Vie (at the end of the dock)
Iceclad Ocean (at the dock by the pirate outpost)
Shadowhaven (near the teleporter to the Nexus)

There are no soulbinders in any other city, including but not exclusively:

Sanctus Seru
Katta Kastellum
Thurgadin
Kael Drakkal
Skyshrine
High Pass Hold

All there is to say about soulbinders...

Nope. There's only two soulbinders in all of Luclin; one in Shadowhaven (near the teleporter to the Nexus) and one in Shar Vahl (just outside the throne room in the place). If you want to be bound here, have to find a caster to do it for you, same for Sanctus Seru.
