The city of the followers of Seru on the light side of Luclin.

Sanctus Seru is the home of a segment of the ancient Combine empire, those loyal to Seru. Their ancestors disagreed with the followers of Tsaph Katta, for reasons including letting the dark elves into the Empire, and had a violent split. Seru himself tried to assassinate Tsaph Katta, fracturing the empire. The followers of Katta moved to Luclin, and those of Seru followed in pursuit. They are a very rigid people, living under the watchful Eye in their police state.

The people of Sanctus Seru keep minimal strength in both Dawnshroud Peaks and Marus Seru, although their military strength is very good, and they could quickly respond to any threat from their high walls.

I got attacked here too. By a Guardian of the Arx. Was a dwarf patrolling around the fountain near the zones where you first come in. He hits for 100+, luckily I was near the zone and was able to zone out before he could do some serious damage to me.

I've never heard of these guys before, and every other faction in the city is Apprehensive to Indif. I can't think of much of anything I've done to ruin Sanctus faction. And I used to rest in this city all the time, going afk for up to an hour sometimes. Now I'm gonna be a bit worried to.
Wandering around..

I have killed Katta guards quite a bit which gives good faction here.

The guards at the outer reaches of the city are Amiable, several Guards and other NPC's further in are ally. Some still are apprehensive.

I was attacked, however, by 'A Defender of the Arx' - no idea what faction he is on, but he is in a room on the 3rd floor of Building 15 on the EQAtlas map. Haven't yet found any other KOS NPC's, but there are probably more.

Faction in this town is fairly complicated, don't assume you're safe :)
Katta Spies...

Since you admitted that you have ruined your Katta faction then perhaps you were aggroed by one of the Katta spies in the city and the Defender of the Arx assisted due to similar bug as the WW assist bug?

I too was attacked by "Defender of the Arx". Everyone else in the zone is either Aimiable or indef. ONLY the Defender attacked, no one else on the Arx faction did. Is this guy some spy or something?
RE: Wandering around..
# Feb 15 2002 at 6:24 PM Rating: Decent
Odd, "A Defender of the Arx" should be on the same faction as the "Guardian of the Arx" and "Praetorian xxxxxxx" mobs -- they're seru's personal guard, and appear to be indifferent to everyone...even my necro.

However, I have seen mobs whose faction doesn't match their name...and building 15, IIRC, is the Eye of Seru building. You shouldn't be kos to the eye, however, if you can walk around most of the city -- the eye has mobs all over the place.

But yes, faction is complicated...what I know (credit for some of this goes to various Safehouse posts):

Hand of Seru -- guards / military wing of Seru

Eye of Seru -- secret police / spy wing; have Vigiliums and Questioners all over the place

Heart of Seru -- administration; has a few npcs around the city, though not many -- I believe some Castrorum NPCs (particularly Senioris) are on this faction, but not sure

Shoulders of Seru -- merchants; oddly enough, I don't think this includes the bulk of the vendors in Seru for some reason. I think the Shoulder faction may represent the merchant leadership, while the rank and file go on Citizen faction

Citizens of Seru -- citizens; vendors appear to be on this faction. Praesertum Librariis, Castrorum Vigiliums, and Praesertum Functionaries may be on this faction as well (not sure at this point if they're on Citizens or just Seru faction, but my best guess is the former).

Seru -- I'm guessing Seru and his personal guards (praetorians, guardians of the arx, etc). Unless of course the aforementioned NPCs are on a totally different faction I haven't heard of.

Hand Legionnaires -- the guards outside Seru and elsewhere in Luclin -- the peons of the Hand, I think

If you want to know what faction populates a building in general, look for a symbol above the doorways. The bars and strongholds of the various wings of government have their emblem shown above their doorways. Don't assume, though, that other factions aren't present...
KoS by a mob

I got an instant quad-killed by a barbarian guard-like mob named "Castexxxxx Verenxxxx"(sp) who is the first "ready to attack" mob for my zone surfing without invis on. He is extremely red to me & quad-330dmg to my lvl 55 Human Bard. This ******* camped my corpse (stood exactly above my body) for half an hours (was bound in Thurgdin bank and missed once Nexus gate and 3 mins zoning time each, shxt). So, guys con everything before you move your step, this place sucks. :p

When in Sanctus Seru, approach anyone and say "Who is Katta?" You'll get a lovely response!

for more informative responses...ask
"who is seru"
"what is the hand/eye/heart"
"what is the question"

Some NPCs (the leaders of the various branches of government, for instance) will give different responses than the rest...

also, try "who is abashi"...I kid you not ;)

Being a wizard, I can attest that in the Katta caster's building there is a vendor that sells all wizard researched spells through level 44. I am told that all caster researched spells through level 44 may be purchased from the various class-specific vendors in this building.

I love this zone, but that is just me, mostly cus nothing has attacked me or killed me yet! <holding breath, crossing fingers, etc.> Over the past few days, while in the city, I have come across many folks stuck in the water pools. Only one was able to dive down deep and come up and jump out, all others were totally stuck. Of course levi does not work. I ended up TP'n them out. Stay away from those pools unless you can tp yourself out!!!

actually me and a group just spent an hour killing the file cabinet. We thought it would be funny to move it to werid spot. Anyway the story goes we where usen spells that had knock back and was sending it all over the place. Then we noticed we had damaged it a little. So me being a mage and all i summoned my pet to see if pet could hit it and sure enough he could. So me and a bunch of friend just spent and hour killen it. Didnt attack us at all just had amazing hp. Only loot that i think wasnt given to the file cabinet would be the wing of xen (mage research item) and a original note. Yes it was called "a original note". When you went to read it, it did nothing dont know if its for a quest.
RE: File Cabnet????
# Feb 01 2002 at 2:11 PM Rating: Default
The original note is part of an earring quest.. similar to the Coldain ring quest.... I have finished this part so do not destroy the original note if you have it...

Dark Elves that worship Innoruuk start out KoS to Katta and Ssru alike. I am a 56 necromancer and have been killing Katta guards at the bottom of the stairs for a couple of days. Best xp I've ever gotten. Maybe reverse my faction later since Ssru has vowed to keep Dark Elves out of the combine. But as far as I'm concerned, they hated me anyway.

Well, tonight we put together a 1 group break in to get some info on the zone(60War 60Chant 60Cleric 60Monk 60Rogue 53Ranjar), and needless to say it was very disappointing. We pulled about 1/7 of the zone area or so.. and the loot sucked ( No Drops and VERY rarely Ringmail and Fine Steel). Our rogue was able to sight Seru, but did not have time to attack him for stat averages =X. Resis we noticed: alot of them resis snare / root type spells about 85% of the time. Most likely ANY loot this zone contains is very deep in, IE inside the Eye,Shoulder, etc temples. By the way, some of these mobs are Paladins.. yes.. we experienced Lay of Hands~~~~~ They hit for decent damage, around 100-133, and fairly fast.
RE: Info
# Jan 05 2002 at 3:31 PM Rating: Default
Seru reallying isn't a zone for loot. It's a city and like most cities it has merchants, trainers and a few quests. The only mob anyone has found worth killing is Seru himself but as far as I know no one has taken him down. City guards aren't known for good drops so I'm surprised anyone would bother.

the horrors give better faction then recusos

I have seen numerous references to Sanctus 1, 2, 3. Are there sub-zones/dungeons within the city that I have not yet seen? Could someone clarify please?
RE: Admitting my stupidity
# Jan 01 2002 at 1:46 PM Rating: Default
There's only one real zone that you zone into. I guess you could call the back area with the four pyramidal buildings a subzone and I suppose the area with the citizens' houses and the arena could be considered a subzone.
My Experience in Sanctus Seru
# Dec 26 2001 at 8:02 AM Rating: Default
Well... I didn't die. I pretty much ran around the whole zone with my Halfling rogue who worships Bristlebane. Every NPC I can remember conned indifferent or dubious, except a haunted chest NPC in one of the back buildings of the four that surround Seru's palace, which conned scowling, but was green con to level 45. I didn't risk trying to kill it... I was afraid nearby guards would not like it. The chest was called "A Filing Cabinet". Compelling object... anyway... I hailed every NPC I saw, and I got one of two responses every time. Usually, the reply was "Greetings, <your name>". If not that, then no reply at all. I see there are quests for this zone on Allakhazam... so I don't know what I was doing wrong. The NPC's I talked to were indifferent... perhaps faction needs to be above that for them to discuss anything with you. Anyway... seems like a faction puzzle... oh well. Have fun exploring this zone but be very careful... con everything you see when it is far off... and have a plan in case you die. The city is beautiful though, and very worth the visit. The walls appear to be about 25 stories high, and you can even go inside the walls and run around overlooking the city. The city is huge... no understatement... and I would wager that, from what I know, it is the largest city zone to date. It certainly is larger than any of the zones that any races start in, as well as places like Thurgadin and Kael. Not sure if it is bigger than Skyshrine =)It's also the most intricate city I have seen. Anyway I will shut up now... have fun.
Cannot WAIT!

First time in with my Iksar Monk, I got attacked by the 2 lego's in hallway, zoning in from Marus Seru.

Took my Halfie Bard over (agnostic) and was able to explore the place a bit, make a crude map of guard-placements, and found some huge O-ring kind of hallway with a bunch of guards and named NPC's in it, ie. Perfect hunting ground.

Why do I hate this place? Not because they attacked my Iksar, I'm used to that. My loathe is quite simple. A friend did a few faction quests in Seru and noticed that it raised faction with Coterie, so IMHO - Sanctus Seru = Evil and Evil must be removed.

news bits
# Dec 17 2001 at 9:13 AM Rating: Good
Praetorians are the personal guards of Seru himself (who is inside the central building) and since he is on his own faction, i assume so are the Praetorians.

regarding the "own Nexus": Sanctus Seru simply wanted to build another spire in Mons Letalis to make travel a bit easier - that project failed (only Seru and the Praesertum know the details according to some NPC) and now spire ghosts roam that place. there's also a quest to discover the reasons for the failure.

getting into the building: gravity flux will work to get in and there's a porter inside that gets you out again. rumor has it that the entrance to the building ain't broken but instead you need to do some quest or possibly just need the right faction (maybe get amiably with all 4 Praesertum and Seru himself).

raising factions: killing the Recuso in Marus Seru raises Eye, Hand, Heart and Shoulders of Seru while lowering The Recuso and Haven Smugglers faction. if you want to raise the faction for Seru himself there is a simple way to do it: bring 4 vampyre ashes (dropped off various coterie in Maiden's Eye and Tenebrous Mountains) to Centurion Peran in Dawnshroud Peaks (loc 990/1200, by a lake, taking a swim sometimes). reward is +faction with Seru and a random item (like a Combine Great Stuff). There are other ways to raise Sanctus Seru faction around Katta Castellum and Tenebrous Mountains, but those will lower your Katta faction and the two i mentioned don't.

other stuff: there seems to be some hidden secret about Sanctus Seru. for example, Legionnaire Palati tells you that his brother Yill recently had to do the "Question" (if you talked to the NPCs in Sanctus Seru you know what i am talking about) and he got promoted to the rank of Praetorian afterwards but his behaviour changed and he seems to be different now. i talked to Praetorian Yill and he really behaved in a strange way and he was talking like he was in some sort of trance.
oh well, those are the things that make EQ fun ;)

If anyone knows a decent way to get faction up wut seru please post.. Im not sure which faction it is, Ive seen like 4 or 5 different faction with the word seru in them.. the guards are indiff to me but some guy in the middle of the city conned even to level 56 was threatening.

A quest that raised all seru faction or the one of the KoS ppl in the middle would rule

any nfo appreciated

I can confirm that A Praetorian Pius can see invis and will KOS just about anyone (I'm a agnostic gnome)
They are located in the center building (loc is aprox. 0,0) in the middle of all the temples. The front door is a teleporter that appears to be bugged.
I believe that the citys denizens where trying to create their own nexus (heard from one of the temple NPCs) but it failed. I think (just a guess) that it is inside this building.
From what I can tell if you were to go to the top of one of the other temples and levitate your self, you could get into the center building through one of the windows.
Unfortunately there apears to be a level 65 mob in there and the A Praetorian Pius will break your invis (not to mention they were red to a 52 monk with me)so it would take a raid size force and theres no gaurentee of not getting bad faction hits.

I really think that this zone is unfinished. So who knows how the faction is going to work in the future.

Anyways, you can't cast levitate in this zone so you'll have to gflux yourself on to the roof.
Praetorian Pius *does* see through invis
# Dec 16 2001 at 9:35 AM Rating: Default
I was exploring this town with my 47 half-elf ranger, and initially, most of the guards and NPCs conned either indifferent or dubiously. No one attacked me until I was walking around further in and wandered close to A Praetorian Pius (a dwarf in plate). All of sudden, five whacks averaging 200-300 dmg made mincemeat of me.

Well, guess what, I go do corpse retrieval, and the nasty guy sees through invis! I had to get some GM help to move the bad guy, so I could do a fly-by summon corpse. You couldn't get close enough without getting killed again.

Watch out for these guys, they're bad news!

Ok, I made my Iksar before there was Luclin, but now that Luclin came out, I'm kind of discouraged about if I'm going to be KOS everywhere on the moon too...

Is there anywhere an Iksar can seek refuge... hopefully a nice evil city where the fear of Cazic-Thule is accepted.

Being a 53 DE SK I am KOS everywhere here. I ran into nothing that saw invis and wandered the whole city lots of yellows and reds. I hit a blue con mob that resisted Dooming darkness and heart flutter and took me down to 1 red while I only took it down 1 red. I decided that it was zoning time. i so look forward to returning with some dark friends and laying waist here.
