This massive seven-floor tower is located on the second island of Iceclad. It is clear that something terrible once happened to the inhabitants of the tower.

Littered with undead scholars, priests, travelers and shades, one must make their way up floor by floor with a different key necessary for each floor up. On the top floor is Tserrina, inciting terror on the rest of Frozen Shadow. Contrary to rumors, there is no eighth floor.

Various keys grant you access to each floor of the tower:

Everquest Guide Keys to the Tower of Frozen Shadow (OLD)

Three Toothed Key - 3rd floor - an angry librarian
Frosty Key - 4th floor - an enraged shadow beast
Small Rusty Key - 5th floor - Cara Omica
Bone Finger Key - 6th floor - an enraged relative
Large Metal Key - 7th floor - VhalSera

They drop an "evil" version of this tunic for mostly evil races/classes combination.

There is a "Stonebrunt as per the Purification quest" that you can do to make this usable by the other races.

My HIE Cleric looted the tunic before I realized that "HIE" could not use. I could do this purification quest and my HIE could use it. But for the stats, I am not sure that it's worth the work to purify it.

Being such a large structure surrounded by hostile creatures, finding the entrance to the Tower might take some effort the first time. Instead of circling the Tower several times while trying to avoid the Snow Cougars and Shadow Guardians like I did, I'll just tell you where to look. You'll find the entrance to the Tower on the southeast side, facing the gnolls. The outside of the Tower is guarded by Shadow Guardians, which are aggressive but cannot see through the invisible spell. Click the shimmering portal to zone into the Tower of Frozen Shadow.

Last night we went to get a key on the 5th floor. Couldn't get the Enraged Relative to spawn. Meanwhile, a guild on the second floor was having trouble when we got there and still when we left - couldn't get the Angry Librarian to spawn. I wonder if the key mobs randomness is tied together?

Probably not, probably just bad luck!

What a great zone!

Ive been here a few times with diferent characters, and have noticed that it was more likely for the Angry Librarian and The Enraged Relative to spawn if you could mow through the PH's.
We had 40 pally 55 cleric 54 mage 52 mage on the 5th floor (wedding party)and almost evry cycle to Enraged Relative spawned for us.
Just from my experience =P

This dropped off the incoherent spirit on 6a at the end of the hall that goes right instead of left towards the Dragon trap room, it is in that dead end hall way. Was very easy to kill with a 53 ranger, 52 cleric 50 warrior 51 druid and 50 monk, very good floor for xp at thos levels all blue and no wonderers, NOTE the dragon trap was broke and would chase you around and even if you sat and camped it would be sitting right where you left when you came back in so careful and stay away from the Dragon trap room till they fix traps in a future patch.

Some type of hand?
# Apr 22 2002 at 9:10 AM Rating: Default
Got attacked by some type of hand on thesecond floor. Had druid cast see invis on me went back over to where I was attacked. Got atacked again but still did not see it. Anybody know anything about a hand here? It was attacking by the first bookshelf to the right as you enter from the first floor. Thanks for any info you have.
RE: Some type of hand?
# Apr 22 2002 at 4:05 PM Rating: Decent
The bookshelf is "trapped". When you get too close, you set the trap off - and the hand attacks. It's actually quite simple to avoid going past that particular bookshelf so you don't set it off.

Beautiful Zone

This is one of my favourite zones in EQ. The Tower is incredibly addictive. The sounds and beasts are perfect for the atmosphere that you can feel. The 2nd floor is especially cool with all the creepy messages and sounds. Very nice work by the devs. With good experience and nice loot you can't go wrong here (unless you die on a floor for which you don't have the key lol). Peace

Yah, except I decided to take my level 46 monk there to solo, did fine on first floor (everything green tho), spent a couple hours on 2nd with no luck on key holder only to die and wait around 6 hours to get my corpse back :*( All caster mobs, half of them green too, and it just so happened that I was low on hp once, decided to fd only to have it broken because I died by 250dd ouch...

Hey my guild has an upcoming raid on ToFS. We are probably going to have 2 full groups of people 30 to lower 40s. Another guild said that we are going to need a Rogue with a high lock-pick to be successful here. We just want to get some Students homework or syllabus for our casters.

Can anyone give me some info on if we will be ok?
Thanx in advance

Well, you're probably going to call me nuts, a fraud, a fake, etc. but here it is.

Okay, I was ******** around on a guild raid waiting for cara to spawn. There's been a bug for a long time that makes eye of zomm spawn about 3ft in FRONT of the caster, meaning if the caster is facing a wall it will go into the wall and teleport somewhere. Well, I was doing this in ToFS.

I landed on a floor no one knows about... it had 4-5 MoBs called Shrouded Bats. It also had a glowing red gem in talons that when I tried to click on it said "You cannot reach that, get closer" (since I was using eye and it acts like I try to click from person. No idea what it does)

I have NO idea what this floor is, nor what is there. I DO have screenshots that I'll post up in a little bit on my site. If you think I'm a fraud, so be it. But I'm not.

Peace,

LOL. That's the zone to the 7th floor. Anyone that has spent anytime on 6 has seen this room.

I have been up there several times, in fact, my 51 druid has Tserrina's Symbol(neck piece) from level 7.

It's not some 'secret mystery' room. But the ToFS gets better and better each floor you go up. :p

thats the thing you click the valsera key on to go to the 7th floor. It takes you to a different part of the 7th floor than by using tserrina's key to get up there.
There is also a 8th floor

RE: There is also a 8th floor
# May 23 2002 at 12:37 AM Rating: Default
the eight floor is was supposed to be a later development using one of the mirrors on the 7th floor, although I think Verant has forgotten about it *mumbles something bad about unfinished plots*, actually goes into relatively good detail about it in the book that came with the velious expantion if you feel like taking a look
Secrets!
# Mar 16 2002 at 10:58 AM Rating: Decent
First Floor Key: Kill everything...There is no certain thing to get the "a large undead gnoll" to spawn.

Second Floor Key: All "normal" ghostly students are Necromancer types. But the one that spawns the Keyholder is a wizard...just kill all students till you find wizard one and the "angry librarian" will spawn out of that.

Third Floor: the Keyholder spawns out of 3 different mobs. skeleton sleepers, shadow beasts, and zombies. The zombies are warriors but you can tell when the enraged shadow beast is going to spawn when the zombie turns out to be a monk and is doing monk attacks. The shadow beast that spawns the enraged shadow beast has been found to have money on it while all others have no money. I am not sure about the skeleton sleepers..I have not found any patern yet.

Yeah I fought and killed it last night, I came here to see what it was all about, but its not listed. Now I'm wishing I had taken a Screenshot of it.

I found it in the room in the north east corner with another shadow beast.

He looks like a shadow beast just slightly larger, was blue to me at lvl 40 and he dropped nothing.

First Three Keys
# Mar 07 2002 at 9:46 AM Rating: Good
Key to second floor: take the first hall to the left, then the first room on your right in the hall. Three skellys will spawn in that room. Kill in that room till the enraged gnoll spawns. He'll pop in the place of killing a skelly ph, so be sure to have mana if your a caster. He's a shammy and will bring out a wimpy wolf pet. Kill him and get the key. Stay in that area, dont bother killing everything on floor, it wont speed up the process and will deplete your mana/hp's and you wont have it when needed.

Key to third floor: Kill the whole floor? OMG no. I've also heard tale that killing the library and her assistent will reset the respawn for what you are really after, the enraged. Go to the little room on the left (itu of course). Take out both the teacher and the student, eventually the enraged will spawn. Loot your key, and your Teacher's Syllabus if your lucky.

Key to fourth floor: Go to the immediate right and enter the kitchen (the next big square room over). This one im sketchier about, i believe there are 3 spawns here, definitely 2, and i forget if there is a wanderer. Do kill spawns here and nowhere else however, one of them is ph to the angry cook or chef. Loot your key.

Key to Fifth floor and beyond: havent gotten that far yet, check other postings.

The second floor key part is wrong, when I was in there witha group a couple of days ago we killed shadowbones but the gnoll never popped, but after switching to drolvargs the gnoll popped three straight times
RE: First Three Keys
# Mar 10 2002 at 7:34 AM Rating: Default
you got almost all the facts right but, you seem to think every thing is enraged. first floor key holder is undead gnoll. 2nd floor key holder is angry lib. 3rd floor key holder is enraged shawdow beast, not cook. 4th floor key holder is cara. 5th floor key holder is enraged relative. far as ive been.
Genie
# Mar 04 2002 at 11:50 PM Rating: Default
For some reason I can't convince this site I'm logged in so I will have to post this under anon.
We took out the genie tonight and wow! It was great!
Group classes/levels:
Cleric 46
Druid 46
Enchanter 41
Paladin (mithril 2 hander) 44
Paladin (dwarf axe found on 6a) 41
Shaman 43
Prep time took about 10 min. We clicked the mirror to 6b and killed the bat there.
Then we did see invis and EB for the first 2 buff slots and then proceeded with Naltron, Resist magic, Protec. of Diamond.
We went in with FM and the first 2 buff slots were cleared.
The 2 pallys engaged the genie and the enchanter proceeded to do his mezzing work. Not sure how long battle took but definitely longer than 2 min. Cleric blasted the genie 4 times, did celestial several times. Shaman slowed, doted and blasted 4 times. Druid doted several times and was backup healer when cleric had 20m. The paladins cast cancel magic on themselves when they got blinded. Enchanter had haste on the pallys. Enchanter ran OOM, genie died, cleric looted. Enchanter had LOH done on him since all 5 bats went after him, enchanter gated out as planned. Cleric cast wave of fear to scare the bats way to stop interruption of EVAC since the druid picked up some aggro from heals.
Voila.
Very cool, very awesome feeling. I was quite high on EQ.
RE: Genie
# Mar 07 2002 at 11:49 AM Rating: Decent
I hear ya bud,

Went in there and killed him with:
46 paladin, 40 druid, 52 cleric, 50 mage, 47 necro, 44 necro (myself), 40 wizard

Since we only had one tank our strategy was to root rot and kite him. We rooted, necros snared, then mage, necros, wizard started laying waste to him. We kept pets out of the fight because we were afraid of them agroing adds from upstairs. The druid had heals on the casters until the genie got to 50 health and the paladin went in and started tanking him. Once he got to quarter health we started nuking hard. At a little less than a quarter health we discoverd he couldn't be stunned and he gated.

This is where the fight got a little more hectic and a hell of a lot more fun. Genie comes back with two enshrouded bats (I think we got lucky there were only two). At this point I was essentially oom from the last nuke call and I was trying to med up to mez/root the bats. The wizard got agro and was unfortunately sent back to his bind point. I then got charmed and since I was oom the only service the genie got out of me was whacking the cleric with my sorcerers bowl. I did a solid 3 damage to him before charm wore off. (I think a giant rat is a more useful pet than me oom).

Shortly after this the genie went down. We were now all oom. The two bats were still there and we parked them on one side of the room, ran to the other and med up enough to make pets. Three pets + Paladin = dead bats.

One of the most fun fights of my eq life. Thank you Verant for puting encounters like this in the game, much more exciting than the constant xp treadmill. Next step, Nagafen *grins*

What a fun zone, great exp and decent loot.

The one thing you want to watch out for is that sometimes it seems like leaving this place is more dangerous than actually fighting in it. Zoning into a bunch of underconned shadow guardians when everyone is low on mana and health is a quick way to ruin what a second ago was a flawless raid.

I speak from experience, heh.

Bone Chips are a common drop off of the skeletons on level 1. I believe you would have no trouble collecting a good number of them. Although, I would probably choose to get some cash and go buy them off of newbies, will be faster, easier, and helps out those little guys.

Bone chips are supposed to drop from the skeletons (shadowbones or something like that) on the first floor... At least that's what I hear, I'm going to check it out tonite :) Oh, and you should be able to solo them np... Check out castersrealm.com for a strategy on handling these guys.

You first need to go to 6A (the floor with the ice shades) and go to the dragon statue room. In there, you will occasionally see an old world spectre (has an old world scythe, not the velious one, also has a pet). Killing him spawns VhalSera in 6b. To get there, go first back to the zonein on that floor, and take the first right. Follow it up, and go through the mirror at the top. Then head up the stairs to get to VhalSera. Careful, he procs a charm and also nukes. He will drop the key. Then head to where you found him, and follow the water around. There will be a hand pedestal with a glowing red orb on it, using the key will port you up to floor 7.
