Home to Lord Yelinak and his Claws of Veeshan minions. This is a massive tower which can be entered through the Wakening Land or a portal in Cobalt Scar. With winding stairs, twisting caves, and a maze among numerous wurms, wyverns, and drakes, navigation can be tricky. Unless you are an ally of the Claws of Veeshan, you are best off avoiding the city of Skyshrine.

Level 46 is required to enter the zone.

Zoning to CS
# Jun 29 2001 at 11:19 AM Rating: Decent
I read somewhere that only one person in a group needs the key to zone into CS. Is this true?

If so I'm going to do this and pick up a tooth at the rings in CS.
key with 2 people
# Jun 28 2001 at 2:09 PM Rating: Good
When you zone in and find out your the only person you have 2 choices if you want the key:
Sit and wait or do it yourself:
Do it yourself if: You have Root

Invis to room and pull: you'll get 4, harmony only last a minute or less on quest sentries in the front...

Root the keyholder and zone.....
Come back in and whala, hes all by himself
Snare/Root and nuke till dead not that hard.

Same can be done easier with 2 people:
One pulls and one roots...

OK since its normally empty heres how you get the key:

Invis down the steps to the right and pull the room. root the key holder and zone. then come back in and root and dot until dead.... not too hard...

Must Kill to get Cobalt Scar Key?
# May 11 2001 at 9:06 PM Rating: Default
On getting the Key for Cobalt Scar, do you have to KILL Ziglark Whiseperwing? If so what faction hit does it give?
I cannot imagine them NOT putting a way to get the Key for those not wanting to hurt their SkyShrine Faction. ( Granted Verant HAS done even more foolish things in the past ).
Are there more ways to obtain the key to Cobalt Scar Not involving the destruction of important factions.

Now this is just a theroy...On factions... By killing say a giant you gain faction with Coldian. However the Negative faction hit you recieve to the giants seems to have more of an impact...to say it in more simple form..You can trash factions with varied group quite quickly, and in short-order be a sworn enemy by nights fall....However it has always seemed to be more uphill going on Regaining that Lost faction, for every gaurd you kill in Qeynos you need slay over 20 gnolls to come close to leveling it out.
Anyone have some more solid information on this subject? Is there some quest as well for those that would be allies to SS for obtaining the CS Key? Does Ziglark Whiseperwing give a negative facton hit? ( or ANY faction hit at all?
Thank you to those taking the time to read my post, and great thanks to those with constructive replys.

The cobalt scar key can be quested for people (like my druid) who don't want bad ClawsofVeeshan/Yelinak faction hits:
http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/quest.html?quest=940
I was able to do it solo easily; though Wenglawks at the time had some pathing issues, and got stuck in a loop walking up a hallway that was free of all giants (except one occasional wanderer).

Killing Ziglark Whisperwing is easier if you don't care about faction, but not the only way.

And yes, negative faction hits in velious (elsewhere too?) generally seem to be roughly 10 times the magnitude of positive ones, at least the ones from killing NPC's. There are exceptions though.
Positive faction hits from quests tend to be much bigger.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 11 2001 at 10:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i ventured in skyshrine for fun one time with a few friends, we killed the 2 UBER HP sentries by the zone, barely, we were all 40-45 (full grp) chanter, mage, necro, 2 dr00ds, monk, and we went up the stairs to the right and killed a drake, guardien, sentry thing, got a CS key and i didnt really want it, but what i am gettin at is the drake is beyond easy, my pet could have solo'ed it prolly, drake dropped key and we fought some more til the chanter died (LOL) then we walked out casually and camped REALLY fast (we had no rez for chanter /snicker) hehe
RE: key
# Nov 06 2001 at 12:15 PM Rating: Decent
Wow, what a moron. The sentries outside are pitiful, a whole group of 40-45 with a chanter should have destroyed them without effort, seeing as I can solo these greenies with my lvl 45 Shadowknight. Also, if you had trouble with the green outer guards, why did you then go inside and attempt to kill the higher lvl mobs? You guys were just asking for it, and your chanter must have sucked if he died since the zone is about a 30 second run from where you said you were hunting. I feel bad for whoever groups with you in the future, you sound to me like someone who will get a lot of people killed.

As a follower of Tunare, I started off scowling. It took me 300 +ClawsofVeeshan hits from killing frost giant scouts and dire wolves to get to dubious.
I've yet to hear of anyone starting off non-KOS.
All merchants (everywhere, including Skyshrine) will never /con below dubious though. They're still on ClawsofVeeshan and would normally be scowling, but since they're merchants they will never attack first.

Getting through this zone...?
# Apr 28 2001 at 2:25 PM Rating: Decent
Once a CS key is obtained, how does a KOS person get through here to CS?
Do the dragons on the way see invis?
I know you can get through Kael with invis, as long as you don't wander the city (if you're KOS that is). Is this true with SS?

I've been told that a lot of things in Skyshrine will see through invis.
However I can tell you that if you follow the shortest path to the courtyard (or whatever the room with the pool and statue is called), unless you are trained you will not run into anything that sees through invis. I have led several KOS people through here without any problems. Unlike Kael, the path from one side of the zone to the other does not take you through much of the zone...

The way I remember the shortest path is that I start left and make a zig-zag pattern, turning whenever there's a branch. It'll probably be much more useful to look at a map though. :)

Spawn Rate?
# Apr 17 2001 at 7:22 AM Rating: Default
After reading all the information on this form, I know about how many spawns are in various rooms, but I have one question left...

Is there a zonewide spawn time, like in lower Guk, or do different guards have different spawn rates? Would make camping this when I get there a LOT easier if I knew how fast I have to kill everything.

Thanks a lot for your help.

The answer really depends on what class you are, how many are in your party, how well balanced your party is, etc...

Here are some things to take note of, however:

Mobs here have high hp counts for their lvl. This makes for a slow kill rate. Rogues and monks are great to have around.

Mobs here don't hit particularly hard, but high hp's make for long fights, so warriors are nice to have.

Mobs here have fairly high MR and are difficult to mez compared to similar lvl mobs found elsewhere. Enchanters should be higher lvl than you would normaly expect if they plan to do crowd control (and live). Wizards aren't all that usefull here for the same reason.

Damage shields really help here due to the length of many fights. Mages with their pets and druids w/regen, buffs and back up heals are great here.

The answer is: I've seen lvl 35 groups tear up the zone and I've seen lvl 45 groups get torn up. The lower level you are, the more important having a well balance party becomes here.
RE: level?
# Aug 15 2001 at 12:45 PM Rating: Decent
Good strategy is important, good tactics are a must, and having the right tools for the job is downright essential. I have tried this zone twice, the first time was a disaster, the second was a cakewalk.

First party I went in with was a level 36 warrior (me), a level 38 wiz, a 37 necro, a 40 shaman, a 39 shadowknight, and a 41 bard. The MR on the buggers in this zone rendered the wiz, necro, and shaman essentially useless as far as damage dealing. The shaman could not keep up with the damage done to us tanks, either. After I died the wiz evaced everyone else with the last scrap of his mana.

Second group I went in with was myself (still 36), a 38 mage, a 37 cleric, a 40 rogue, a 39 monk, and a 40 chanter. The monkey FD pulled singles, I tanked away with the mage's DS on me start to finish, the chanter debuffed MR and the mage followed with his Malo type debuff so he could nuke a bit, and the monk and rogue played pattycake with the mob's hindquarters. The rogue used a silken whip in his offhand to help reduce risk of a runner getting loose. Melee damage is a MUST in this place. can't rely too heavily on nukes, cause they will get resisted at the worst possible times.

Why would you wanna go and make a post and lie about it?

"Second group I went in with was myself (still 36), a 38 mage, a 37 cleric, a 40 rogue, a 39 monk, and a 40 chanter..."

"The rogue used a silken whip in his offhand to help reduce risk of a runner getting loose"

You aint got to lie to kick it!
Rouges Cant use a snare whip!
It doesnt proc till lvl 50 anyway!
And a Group heading to SS with a Tank as the lowest lvl? LOL
Try a lilttle harder next time please

Note that the annoying Drakes will GATE when low on hps. We found that out to our great annoyance (and the death of two of our party members) when pulling the fountain room. They then bring all their drake friends to help. The drakes in the fountain room at least also have pets.
In the fountain (aka Colbalt Scar room) I noticed some mobs on the right side as you come in from the WL zone saw through invis, I just hugged the fountain to the left and had no problem.
Also, this place seems to be tagged as outdoors. Might be a mistake as it looks underground to me, but currently you can sow and such in it.
Re; Faction, you take SoV and Yelinak hits and gain in Kromvek faction from killing here. If you want to raise Giant faction you need to kill both Dwarves and Dragons; hence why the Giant quest armor got such an upgrade over the other two cities' quest armor.
Porting into Cobalt Scar - Wyverns do not see invis, so strongly suggest getting that up and out of the way when you come in. They don't camp the portal, but may be wandering by, just like every other Velious portal may have roamers come by. Personally, I suggest always gating into Veliuos invis. I do not know if Wushoi sees invis or not. I was told that if you get a Wyvern on you in Cobalt, to take them to the Otterman camp. The AoE of the Wyverns will make the otterman kick their butts. ;)
