I was just playing with a spreadsheet and thought some of you might like this.
A tick is 6sec, so take the damage/6 and you have the DPS.
So in the first tick 12/6 = 2
tick2 24/6 = 4, but now 2 ticks have passed so your DPS over the 12sec that have passed is 4+2=6/2=3 and so on.
Long story short, DPS starts at 2 in the first tick, and grows by 1 each tick. So if you let it run for all 14 ticks, you end with a DPS of 15.
Not a bad DPS for a freebie :)

Mine dropped in Maidens Eye.. we camped the Umbral Planes border and a Xi Xui (or whatever the hooded guy name is) dropped it twice in about 2 hours. Lots of other spells also including Thunder of Karana.

Okay, why is everyone using 12 pts per tick accumulation, when the post says 14 per tick for 14 ticks? BTW, that comes out to about 1,470 hits per cast, at no mana cost, which is about what I determined by rooting and killing some 5-6k mobs with just the spear DoT. You cant do it by casting on yourself,as all players have less hits on them for a spell as verified by Verant, and depending on your race,buffs, and resists, we all regen at a rate other than what NPC mobs do
Definitely worth the effort, and nice melee stats too. If I buff myself with manical strength and mortal deftness, with 200 piercing skill, 255 str, and 218 dex, I hit for an average of 48-60, and occasionally land a big one, with my personal high at 84! Not bad for a pseudo-tank! So slow em, DoT em, and whack the hell out of those things!

This spell effect is a 1268 point DoT that increases it's strength every tick. So on tick 1 it's 12damage and on tick 14 it's 168damage. Almost exactly like the necro spell splurt (splurt lasts 2 ticks longer and so it does 1632 total). However both of these effects are decoded strangly by eqcaster (the program used here to get spell info) to say that they are regen spells.
So fear not wannabe uber shaman, this is still an excellent mana free DoT for all of your soloing needs. I say solo because as any necro will tell you, splurt type dot's seldom have enough time to make themselves useful in a group where several people are beating the mob down. However if the effect is just 2 tick shorter ver of splurt there are 2 other asspects that will effect your use of it. One splurt has a lower resist rate than normal, and two is that it is magic based. So if you are a soloing Shaman you can stick this and then your disease and poison DoT's, shortening the life span of a mob drasticly. If any shaman who is reading this has this spear please post your experiences with stacking this DoT with your cast DoT's.

I just got my Spear of Fate and thought I'd look here to see what it said about the effect. Honestly I stared for a few min. Than started to laugh...Regen ? that can't be right.. LOL
Use it on something and tell us what happens! *

The stated effect is not correct... That would be the worst epic in the game, when shamans get their first regen spell, it is better then that LOL.
Congradulations! You've dragged your guild through the Hole, the Plane of Fear, and god knows how long in the City of Mist, and now you get.....well this very minor healing item. Enjoy!
I can't see how a item with the stated effect (14hp regen in 14 ticks) would be WORTH an epic quest.
I am doing the quest assuming that it's still a mondo DoT. Why would a regen spell be named "Curse of the Spirits" anyway?

Pardon me for being dense, but I don't understand how "6: Regeneration for 14 Hit Points (HP) in 14 ticks" means a DoT for over 1200 hp's......could someone enlighten me please?

the formula for spear of fate epic dot is a multiple of 12, for a grand total of 1268 damage over 14 ticks.
first tick 12, then 24,36,48,60,72 and so on till the last tick does 166 damage.

Does about 1200 damage but the damage starts slowly and increases with each tick. So this does most of it's damage in the last several ticks.
I've heard that it's about 1400 points over 2 - 2 1/2 minutes. Just got mine tonight - I'll test it on someone. hehe
Around a 2100 - DOT over I think 120seconds, though, its possible that it is over 60 seconds. I'll research this.
