How does the hate reduction calculate? It says 400 hate reduction and to me that sounds minimal, but people are posting like its pretty good. Any idea how much that 400 hate converts to damage done? Like does it make the mob forget about 4000 damage you did?

The aggro that a spell generates is based on its base damage, not the actual damage done. So a spell with a base nuke of 800 that crits for 3200 will only generate 800 hate. This spell removes 400 hate, so it would take two casts of the spell to remove the hate from a single 800 base damage nuke, regardless of the damage that nuke does when it lands.
CoM Human skelly

For any wizards trying to do the turn in to the Human Skelly in CoM..you can get some Puppet Strings to charm the mob and do turn in so you can do this solo as a wizard.

Don't waste your time/plat on puppet strings, just stand around the corner a bit and hand in to the skellie in CoM, it won't aggro. I've done on 3 different toons and it always works.
Getting to the human skelly in CoM the ninja way...
# Dec 30 2006 at 12:52 PM Rating: Decent
ok right after you get through the first gate, turn right. Your first goal is to clear out the mobs in the area around the water fall. When you are facing the waterfall, take note of the mobs underneath the roof (Position 1). you need to get there. also take note of the tapestry hanging from the wall above the doorway to the left of the waterfall. The ninja of getting to where you need to go is to get to position 1, get up on the edge, turn and face the tapestry (with Lev *OFF) and leap to the tapestry. If you do it right, you can stand up there and then face up and jump to get on top of the walkway. turn back in the direction of the gate and run parallel to the waterfall area you just came from. The human skeleton spawns in the room just past that doorway you come to. That gets you there. To do the turn in, have someone there who can *charm* either chanter or necro.
Why are you all calling this spell Brain Bite?

I thought the name of the spell is "Concussion"? Did it have a different name at one time?

Concussion / CoM Morden Skeleton

Well now that Gravity Flux is Nurfed.

I was forced to get the Stone Key and go thru the castle and walk all the way to the skeleton.

get the key from the Captian of the guard in CoM

walk to castle entrance (Invis of course)

get into castle and walk past Black Reaver and his posse (8-10 Golems) Carefull at the back door undead wander the hall's. get into hall bust right follow all the way. you can time it so the undead have walked other way as you move right and keep invis. as you gain altitude you enter a room with some undead
(just after the secret entrance to the see thru platforms above)
Now you are in a room with 2-3 undead I had a group we pwned em' from there we killed goo till we found his spawn location 136, -641, +-240
(straight up hall from this undead room)

after one pop he showed up had cleric do pacify.
he would not let me try to do the sneak up trade in. which im sure would not be a problem.

Good luck.. didnt get this done till I was 50
could have done it sooner. invis is awesome. really only 3 undead to worry about you could invis the rest.

P.S.
im sure this quest is one of the reason's they have nurfed Gravity Flux
Quest Update
# Aug 10 2004 at 2:09 PM Rating: Excellent
Time from start to completion of this quest last night: approx 90 minutes. Most of my time was spent waiting on lag and people... I have been told this can take up to 4 hours. I dont know if I was lucky or not... 90 minutes start to finish.

First of all thanks to Jesuel for the updated Quest data. This spell is essential for a "good wizard." Thanks to Kassi (65 Mage on Prexus) and my Guild Knights of the Aurora (KOTA) for assisting me and knowing the HOW and WHERE. Now for the update... I hope to make this a one stop message so ignore the rest of the messages but know I did not provide all this data, and respect those who have gone before me and provided the info..

I Started in POK - I went to the GEM vendor behind the main bank (use the back space map) buy the Gems here they are CHEAP total cost (depending on CHA) is 13p for all 3 gems. You need ONE EACH Onyx, Peridot & Star Rose Quartz.

Now if you are a good guy go to FV STONE, I cast Levitate (or the 29 DS levitate spell) and then invis on me as a precaution. Go through the S-curves in the cave and you come out go almost straight across zone to FV city and DESPONDO is a Wizard GM (again use backspace map to find him).

TIME SAVING TIP - You do NOT have to talk to him. Just hail him and hand him the stones. He will hand you 3 bottles of entrapment (YOU HAVE TO USE THE IDENTIFY SPELL while holding each one. I put them in my inventory in alphabetic order so I would know which one was which (when you cast identify it tells you which is which, but when you replace them in inventory the info is not readily available). You will receive a bottle for:

1. HAMPTON (Human Skelly) in TRAKANON'S TEETH @ +270, -3800. This is the easiest one to do no help needed. Cast your group port to Emerald Jungle (is that Tishan's or Marklar's?) then zone in to TrakTeeth make sure you have sow.. as soon as you zone in just hug the LEFT WALL and follow it all the way around the zone to +270, -3800. I did not see any enemy mobs but I did cast levitate and invis on me just becuz. When you get to HUMAN SKELETON cast identify with HAMPTON bottle in your hand then hand it to the skelly. No aggro done deal he will hand you get a bottle with his soul in it.

2. MORDEN - HUMAN SKELETON (EJ -> CoM) Group port yourself and an SK and/or ENC/NEC friend (or two) to EMERALD JUNGLE then zone in to City of Mist used invis vs undead here. This is where MY experience is different. You can do this part with TWO (you and a NEC) but I used more for speed and safety. (Remember if you use a necro to use his like level 16 pet = 49 sk pet otherwise his pet will kill your turn in guy)

Zone in, go across the bridge, go in the GATE, then turn right. You want to clear all these mobs just to make it easier. Then you want the SK to SENSE THE DEAD he/she should have HUMAN SKELETON targeted. Now everyone go back to the bridge, while on the bridge have your SK cast his level 49 or lower pet. SICK the pet on the HUMAN SKELLY, the pet WILL DIE. After the pet dies make sure SK stands during this whole thing... the skelly comes up to bridge if there are adds have your friends drop them NO ONE attack the human skelly. NOW - ENC or NEC CHARM the human skelly as soon as he becomes pet, cast your IDENTIFY SPELL with MORDEN bottle in hand and hand it to him. BOOM you get the captured sole bottle back.

3. RYLA - HUMAN SKELETON, KARNOR's CASTLE off of DREADLANDs zone. 'BRING FRIENDS' you can do it with less but was very safe with my 56 SK (UglyMutha), 65 Mage (Kassi) and 62 Cleric (Korillion), 62 ENC (Iien) was ther as well. Just so you know while recruiting for this make sure they know they get XP for all the kills here. I did not mark the /LOC for this, but it is in the JAIL section upstairs.

In KC - Cross two bridges, TURN LEFT go a few feet then you do a hard RIGHT and go up the stairs. There are a bunch of turns here and no map, shouldnt be hard to find someone who has been there before... our mob POPs in the middle jail cell (of 3) ON THE RIGHT as you are going in.

There are a bunch of DOG sentries and Hands there to fight bring your party to entertain them, if the skelly is there he is NO AGGRO to you. Just IDENTIFY the spell and hand it to him.

OK you have 3 bottles now go BACK to FV NO TALK, hail DESPONDO again and hand him all 3 bottles BOOM he hands you the Concussion spell.

Brain bite is a MUST for the well assorted wizz,
I use it both in groups and solo.
nice to be able to squeeze a little med in, just, root, snare, nuke, nuke and 2x Brainbite.
Then i go out of aggro range and med a bit, when Root goes, i go, root, nuke, nuke, nuke, done.
Saves mana and even ig root breaks early, you will not get the aggro (unless it chooses to wander off in your direction)
unless you have tried to do more than you can handle, you dont know your limits, experience and "feel" is the best thing for a succesfull use of brainbite.

Brain Bite Quest
# Apr 07 2004 at 6:54 AM Rating: Excellent
Let me see if I can help someone to avoid the time I spent figuring this out. First off this is an awesome spell to mix in your nuking chains. It wipes some of you hate from the mob for each cast.

Im not going to describe each mob you must visit and what you have to do for every part, There is plenty on this site and elsewhere about that. I'll tell you about some things I ran into that i didnt see mentioned anywhere. Though ill touch on the quest in general for reference. I was 50 when I did this quest though with the right help you can do it earlier. Solo your not gonna have much luck I think, especially pre-50 or so. Granted there are exceptions but just so you are warned.

First talk to Despondo in Firona Vie and get your 3 vials by giving him the 3 gems, Star Rose Quartz, Peridot, and Onyx. You will need to identify these to see who they go to.

I did Hampton first, easy turn in. Look for the Human Skeleton at loc +270 -3800. Zoned in from Emerald Jungle and followed the zone wall left. Its a pretty decent walk but generally completely safe. He is a skeleton and non-aggro least to a Erudite Wizard. Hand him the right Vial which you identified as his and get the swirling smoke vial.

Next I did Ryla in Karnor's Castle, KC is the big castle in the center of The Dreadlands. I had a couple friends assist me here since you basically have to fight your way to the mob with a good bit of aggro. Friends were a 54 SK and a 55 Druid. Zone in and go over 2 bridges, turn left, go up the stairs, make a left, make a right, pass a corridor on your right, enter the door on the right, go through the door in the back right, follow hall to the end and make a right, make first right. This is the jail area/camp. Behind most doors is a Dog though behind one, the second on the right I think it was, is the Human Skeleton/Ryla. She is also non-aggro to a Erudite Wizard. Give her the right vial and get your swirling smoke and get outta there.

Last vial you have is for Morden. This is the most tricky turn in. Morden is in the City of Mist which is off of the Emerald Jungle zone. The hard part about this one for me was the fact that the Human Skeleton/Morden was aggro to me. After camping for his spawn he attacked me which made the turn in impossible. I'll tell you how to get to his spawn point first in case you want to try your luck or take a friend to charm ect... Then I'll tell you how I did it.

1. Zone in and cross the bridge, go through the gate and make a right. Continue right to the temple area. It is not a bad idea to kill everything you see around the outside of the temple, especially the guys on top of the stairs and in the back corner. Possible to solo these of course with your massive nukes but you might want to bring a friend/friends the experience is enough to keep them happy. Now go through the door on the bottem left. Go straight and through the door in front of you and up the stairs. On top of the stairs are two undead which can make for a really difficult solo spot due to the tight quarters. Once these are dead you need to Levitate yourself. Face the door you just came through and on the left is a banner on the wall, you want to get on top of this. Levi on over and stop on top of the banner. (Hopefully you killed the guy under it because he will aggro you otherwise and most likely bring more than you want to handle.) You are now right next to a low wall. You are going to want to get over that wall and onto the walkway. There is a wandering skeleton up there you will want to avoid and also a goo thing. Invisibility will nuetralize the goo but the skeleton of course can see through it. So wait for him to pass you a good ways and drop Levitate while standing on the banner. Jump over to the wall. You dropped levitate because you cant jump while levitating. To the left you will see a door. Through this door is a room, while I was there it was 2 undead and 1 golem. I hugged the right wall while invisible and the undead didnt see me at all. So enter the room and hug the right wall in the back right of the room is another door that leads into a Hallway. Follow this hall down and to the right I believe, either way its a one way hall. At the next turn is end of the hall. Right before the door and in the corner is your mob or its place holder. The Loc of the mob is +136 -641. The place holder is a random zone mob. While I was there it was a Golem and a Wraith then the Human Skeleton. This area was safe to wait the spawn, nothing wanders the hall and you can safely pull, root, nuke the placeholder in the hallway behind you. Now If the Human Skeleton aggro's you like he did me.....

2. For this part I had a couple friends help since you need something to pull the Human Skeleton and something to calm him. I had a SK and a Ranger. Zone into the City and head to the bridge. Look to your right, There is an undead wraith thing on a ledge in the upper right. This is where you are going. There is also one on the left but it is irrelevant. Go through the gate and make a right. Make your first right, this the stairs to that ledge. Kill the wraith thing there and have your pocket friend shadow knight or necromancer cast "sense the dead" This will target the Human Skeleton if he is up. If it does not target "Human Skeleton" with sense dead then he is not up and you may want to refer to 1. and kill a few PH before he spawns.
Back to if he is up. You need to go back to the zone in area where you can see the bridge. Have the Nec/SK wait back where he can target the Human Skeleton with sense the dead. Now have the SK send his pet after the Skeleton from down there. As soon as he notices he has aggro he needs to send his pet away so he doesnt kill it. Or he/she can use a really low lvl pet so it dies in 1 hit. Either way when the pet is gone the SK/Necro needs to run back to the bridge where you are waiting. When you see the Human Skeleton root it. Both of you zone to Emerald Jungle and zone back in as quick as possible. Now that you've cleared the aggro on the mob have someone in your party (necro, sk, ranger, cleric, druid, whatever) calm the Human Skeleton, walk up and give him his correct bottle and viola you have your last swirling smoke vial.
(I ran into a problem with the Human Skeleton's root dropping before we could both zone back in. For this the ranger with us disbanded from the group and did the rooting when the SK pulled. SK zoned out while ranger kept him rooted. SK zoned in and ranger zoned out. SK calmed and I turned in without zoning at all.)

Return to Despondo and give him your 3 vials and now you have the immensely useful jolt spell Concussion. I hope this walkthrough helped at least one of you for I spent quite a few hours and fumbles figuring it out. Good luck fellow wizards!

Great Post..wanted to add the spawn time on the placeholder or human skeleton in CoM is 20 mins. Getting here was easy following the directions, hardest part was waiting for spawn. I went through 6 spawn cycles before gratification, better luck to next person.
Standard "Equipment"
# Oct 09 2003 at 9:33 AM Rating: Excellent
Okay, it is not actually "equipment," but "Brain Bite" is a spell that should be included in every Wizard's standard "tool kit." J-Boots, Staff of Temperate Flux, and Brain Bite are all examples of what belong in that "kit."

Often, a Wizard will apparently do everything right, and yet still pull aggro. Are there Wizards who nuke too soon, or too hard, or too much, or too closely spaced together, or from too close to the target..? Surely, just as there are inexperienced players from every class. Becoming intuitive about our own aggro is at least half of the learning process for the Number One Blasters in the game. It takes seasoning, and the more others group with Wizards, the faster Wizards will learn such dynamics as opposed to just soloing all the times.

But... other thngs can cause us to grab aggro as well. MT's with poor taunting skills. Calling "ASSIST..!" too early. Clerics who do unnecessary and too frequent CH's, and then sitting right down immediately afterward to med (can actually end up balancing healer and tank aggro, severely compromising MT taunt... leaving us as the only number which stands out as being "different" to the mob as soon as we nuke). A group or raid member who was above us on the "hate list" being killed, and popping us upwards on that list just before we nuke. All sorts of things can mess up the aggro numbers, even if you personally do everything correctly. It is a tricky balancing act at times. Anyone who has raided the Emp is (hopefully) knowing all about how tricky aggro can be to maintain (Emp casts an AE mem blur at regular intervals, repeatedly resetting the hate list numbers from scratch more or less).

"Brain Bite" was created NOT to allow bad Wizards to continue to be bad, but to compensate for situations where the above scenarios may occur, and a good Wizard ends up being the focus of the mob. Casting this spell from time to time helps to insure us against unnecessary aggro. Every Wizard should have it.

As for the level of the spell... one which you generally can not realistically obtain until your 50's (especially after Grav Flux was quietly nerfed recently when LDoN went live)... I believe that this setup is by design. A level 55+ wiz casting a lvl 39 spell is more or less guaranteed not to fizzle it. And in a crisis, a fizzle on this is the last thing we are needing.

Just thought I'd mention that the scroll for this spell is no-drop so don't bother searching the bazaar (multi-questing might be possible at the turn-in stage if you have at least one of the jars of swirling smoke), and the spell's name (on the scroll) is Brain Bite, not Concussion.

This spell is a must have for all wizards, either in book or on an item, imo.
Perhaps with LoY around, and people exploring the new areas and hints, we will find this spell easier to come by (read : research the mob-dropped/quested spells). Get out there and search, all of you.

# Feb 10 2003 at 4:40 AM Rating: Default
this spell does not adjust your faction, what it does do is lower you on their hate list. What this means is that if you over-burn on a mob and it attacks you, you cast this on it, and it should turn it's eyes back to the tank. very useful spell for you trigger happy wizzys out there that can't take the heat after you nuke 10 times in a row.
