Newb question, please don't flame...well...flame if you can't help yourself...
What exactly does a "critical hit" do? I have seen people "crit" for only 2 damage. Was just wondering what it was all about. I don't understand the significant difference between a hit for 2 damage or a "critical hit" for 2 damage...or a normal mele hit for 500 vs. a "critical hit" for 500...how is one greater/better than the other? Is it agro related, damage related or effect the ability of the mob to fight back...?

Cleave V
a critical hit doubles the damage of the blow. so if you see a critical hit of 2, that means it normall would have done 1 damage. it's totally random which hits it affects (although there are ways to increase the likeliness of a crit happening) which is why sometimes you see Small crits, and sometimes you see big ones.
Actually, a critical is 1.7 times what you would normally do, without AAs like Veterans Wrath which increase the multiplier.

This cleave effect.... will it grant the ability of striking crits to a class that cannot normally crit? Just one of those questiong, cause I am a troll shaman and I often solo.. (still doing it at level 61). I would love the ability to make critical strikes. if someone know please let post.
Even without a cleave item you can still crit as a preist class. Some of the newer meele aura's give you the chance and DoN progression (Teir 4) increases your chances to crit with all types. (meele, DD, heal, dots)

Yes, I know a shaman who has a Cleave effect and she does melee crit periodically. Granted its Rare, but it does happen.
