I wrote this for my fellow clerics. I'm crossposting it here so that the number of snazzy chanter deaths will go down.

Pacification vs. Placate

Placate is a nerf-bat that shouldn't rightfully be in the Lull line of spells. It has limited use, but if you think this is an upgrade for Pacification, you are going to die (and take others with you).

When you successfully Pacify a mob, you may then do the following:

1) Spank his budddies standing next to him because his reaction radius has been narrowed to a tiny 1 foot bubble around him.

2) Run up and kiss him on the nose if you like, because he has been lulled.

This makes pacify deadly useful for doing things like
1) splitting pulls
2) running right by a mob that sees invis
3) calming a potential add that is wandering near an ongoing fight

----

By contrast, when you Placate a mob, you may then do the following:

1) Spank his buddies standing at least 10 feet away.
2) Run by a see invis mob IF, and ONLY IF you keep out of that same 10 foot bubble. Running behind them is better than running in front (if possible).

This means that Placate is well neigh useless for bypassing a see invis mob inside a dungeon. It's pretty darn risky outside. It's not great for pulls either because most static mobs are closer than 10 feet apart.

Also, if you Placate a mob, then pull his buddy who paths into that 10 foot bubble, you WILL bring both. This means in some cases you need to cast Placate once so you can run by (10 feet away!) and get into position to pull without pathing issues...then cast Placate again so you can pull your mob (10 feet away!) without bringing the Placated one along for the ride.

I've seen ONE cleric (Bikky, Saryrn/Mith Marr)(and no Enchanters) use Placate consistantly and well. I'm still working on getting a solid reference for the 10 foot distance.

Guys guys...this spell must be as druid line of spells...this spell IS NOT so u can get closer to mobs...this spell is so U can pull from a group of mobs without getting adds. So if u cast on a mob, and then u get close to it, it will agro u as it would normally. But if u cast on mobs near one u want to pull, always keeping a safe distance, u will get a nice single pull..=) Indeed VERY useful...u just have to forget about using this spell and think u can get next to it without getting jumped.
Reaction Radius vs. Pacify

I don’t have it yet (still 20% from level 67), but from what my level 70 guildie confirmed with me, this spell actually does not, and never will, pacify mobs. It limits the “Hey! You attacked my buddy so now I’m going to join him in killing you!” effect of pulls. You cast it on mobs in the area to calm them down so when you properly pull (aka from a distance) you can keep the count down.

It doesn’t let you “bypass content therefore making it trivial” as did Pacification. It is a pulling aid only. Not an aid to wander fearlessly through zones.

I get agro from mobs that are a lot further than 10' I dont think its working at all.
guess

i think since this is considered a reaction radius spell i think that means that you can go closer to a mob w/o it aggroing you. but if u cast a spell on a mob near it it will still agro.so pulling with this will just kill you.

Your all right it seems. I tried using this to pull singles in Wos. Casted it and told puller to pull. The mob I pacified or used the spell on said he was calmed and all,,but he immediately agroed. I was sure what was going on.. So I decided to use it on a mob and then approached it,,I didnt get very close when he immediately attacked me... The spell is definately bugged..doesnt work at all,,,

I am pretty sure this spell is bugged. This spell is not working at all. I pacy the mob with pacification which is lower version of this spell. it works fine but when I use this spell on same mob it agros even though i see the message saying 'mob looks very calm;. I even used it on greenie mobs...still come at me...I petitioned already...anyone having same problem should petition this so bug can be fixed...
If anyone has any info why i can't pacy any mob, with this spell please let us know, thank you

I don't have the spell yet (though it's next on my list). However, from the spell data, I notice that it isn't 1/(Level of mob) but 10/(Level of mob). Meaning, it doesn't reduce reaction to point blank range, as per most Paci spells. It reduces reaction to 10 feet.

Which means, you get aggro if all you do is get close, though you can get closer than normal. If this is "working as intended" it means that the spell can't be used to split side by side mobs for pulling / passing through.

Making it nearly useless IMO. IF working as intended. IF the data stated above is correct.

IF.

10 unit range is still almost on top of the mob.
