mage fire pet broken
# Apr 07 2007 at 9:44 PM Rating: Decent
the fire pet doesn't follow you when told to. when you say attack. it sits there and you get the message that its attacking but isn't.

the only way to move the pet is to zone, summon it. or log in :( hope sony gets this broken pet to the shop and repaired.

I just got this spell tonight. First thing I noticed when I told it to attack was it didn't move. But I also noticed it would cast for just over 1K damage. With Spell haste, C6, and speed, it did some nice damage. I still need to take a look at the logs and figure out just what its dps is.

So it looks like it won't move but still do some damage. Looks like I'll have to restock on Malachites again <sigh>

only use for fire pets, ever in the entire game, is to take a screen shot with a wana be demon, or mabe the bane fights (though a pet is typicly considered able to hit any mob ie look at the bst 1.0 epic last fight its pets, spells, and bst weapons only, the seru boss mob that can only be hit by bane weapons, its pets bane weapons and spells only, so even in those situations this pet would be out classed out guned, and laughed out of the zone. now if they gave it high agro, low dammage hits, and the same ds with same hp as the earth pet, it would be wroth bringing out to spam on mobs like we used to with reavers. but sony wont do that because they only nerf they dont denerf look at bards aoe songs.

oh yes and one more thing, level 65 wizard mob in nik hits for 450 per hit, and cast level 65 spells, this is an npc not even a mob. our pet is higher level then this (to summon, and if you have focus its higher in level over all) and yet cant break 80 dammage melee, and cant be forced to cast spells you want it to, call sony stupid, call them ignorant, but hey they are the people who brought bad pathing and 12 year old trainers to the gameing world.

Alright. Got my Child of Fire last night. Now I love all pets, despite their differences. I loved the Fire pet with its self buffs and stuff...easy farming lowbie mobs with friends. However, I have yet to summon a Child of Fire that buffs itself! I tried getting it to sit then stand, I tried giving it Kindle and/or Clairvoyance....doesnt want to buff itself! Just occasional nuke, melee. I dont have the /pet nocast AA yet, so cant be that. Any idea? Thanks

Some info on pet :

With Minion of Darkness focus and only self buffs:

Hits for 76 max. Has in the viscinity of 5k HP.

Casts mostly mid 50s spells in combat like Draught of Jiva, Voltaic Draught, Draught of Ice, Markar's Discord, Entombment of Ice and some version of root. For self buffs, it casts Shield of the Magi, Manaskin, Manasink, O'Kiel's Embers and O'Kiel's Flickering Flame on itself. Pretty lame, it's lvl 66 and I've never seen it cast a spell higher than lvl 58.

And yeah, it's pretty useless. If you could tell it to not cast root it might at least be useful for aggro kiting, though likely still not as good as water pet. Or maybe if it actually cast lvl 64-65ish spells it would be good enough DPS to be worthwhile. As it is though, it's just for fun.
Usefulness

I like to say that the fire pet is a very useful pet if you use it correctly. People are usually stupid and just send their pet in to battle. This is not an ordinary pet it is a casting pet. With the GoD AA the pet can now received mana regeneration from Enchanters/Druids/Beastlords/and Bards. On top of that if you play your pet smart you know when to back it out of battle and sit it. Most people are usually by either low intelligence of how ot play a mage or they are lazy and just send it in, and it uses all of his mana, and it begins rootings mobs which causes problems. The people that i see complain about the fire pet don't even position their waters pets to backstab! I'm not attacking anyone, but I do see great benefits with the pet when it is used properly. But the pets are a very interesting subject, and i'm always open for replies too =)

Fire pets work against mobs that can only be hit by magic and/or bane weapons. One use, other then that..... not that I can think of.
It is not useful in any situation

I just ran some tests with this pet versus the 67 water pet. I had the water pet solo a level 50 Plane of Disease mob with Bo5 and Fireskin. The water pet solo'd the mob in 1 minute and 3 seconds with 80% of it's hp's intact. I then tried the fire pet. It solo'd the mob in 1 minute and 55 seconds and had 20% of it's hp's intact. I then tanked for the fire pet so it could just nuke away and the result was that it took him even longer to kill the mob because it wasn't beating itself to death on the damage shiled. That's a level 50 mob it's fighting so it shouldn't be resisting any of his nukes. Imagine watching him try to cast on a high level mob, that would be a laugh. This pet is useless. Even if you ignore his crappy hp's/AC... he still does less damage even on a noob mob than the water pet. I'm tired of people saying this pet is good in some situations. If so, what situations might those be? The one's where you need a pet to do less damage than another pet and also take more damage if he has agro? Bury this spell with a shovel and then bury the shovel. It is useless (when compared to all other 65+ pets) in EVERY situation.

Oh I forgot to mention. I ran these tests with a planar 5 focus item. That means the pet cons 67 vs a level 50 mob. As I said the water pet easily out-dmg's the fire pet by almost twice as much. I'm not sure if the SoE guys who test these spells are retarded or just don't care or it's just a big joke over at SoE but the simple fact is there is not a single situation in the game in which the fire pet does even close to as much dmg as the water pet no matter what you're fighting... and with the water pet having at least 5 times better defense.... if you choose to use this fire pet... you're even more retarded than SoE...
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 17 2004 at 10:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OMG !! you mages are cry babies....agree with torom, i run a mage, and the spell lines that the mages carry are awesome, the fire pet has its place in the right situation....so the hell what if that situation isn't everyday......so cry me a river !! Just be happy for what ya have in the class, cuz mages rock !!
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 16 2004 at 1:04 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) bah u baby mages dont know what nerfs are. u have 3 other pets the fire pet is never and has never been useful only the water wind and earth have but if u think u have been getting the shaft obviously u have been skipping over the portion of the patch message where they say what they did to bards ... who the hell thought a 30ft 200mana (on the worst mana regen out of mana using classes) was a good idea if that spell is any more then a toy id be surprised on about every occasion good enchanters have all or most adds locked down b4 any real dmg can be done .. but hey feel free to complain about your fire pets god forbid you notice your 7khp 100dmg earth pet that can quite easily with a few aa's solo in ro tower hell i know a mage who did it with the 64 pet but no complain about the fire pet that has no skills and beyond lvl 1 when u dont have it is useless. go on keep crying about how 1 spell line of yours sucks.... try playing with a class that has sufferred in just about every aspect of there abilities...

You're quite obviously ignorant of magician pets if you believe that.

Do they still suck?
# Sep 14 2004 at 10:18 AM Rating: Decent
I wads just curious if the new fire pet will be carrying on the wizzy class and therefore suck as a pet. I would like to see a change in that pattern as it is pretty much useless in most situations. I don't know many mage/ wizzy duos hehe.

I disagree with your assumption that Fire Pets sucking, if grouped with another Magician and both are using Fire Pets they can be very powerful combination(just keep kindle active). Yes it would be nice if this new pet was instead an Enchanter and casting Howl of Tashan, Guard of Drizzil(on party), Tranquility(on group), Torment of Scio and Word of Morell(hehehe imagine the fun it would be to have a pet that Mezz'd mobs). Any enchanter reading this will probably start making chain letters to Sony.

As far as the new /pet nocast AA yes this indeed a really bad joke and Sony should remove it entirely from the AA list. Why not Advanced Frenzy Burnout... pet charges into melee then upon contact self-destructs doing pet's current hps of damage in an AE non-resistable(sorta like the wizard's AA Mana Burn).

It would be funny to see our pet mez and charm but it would be very dangerous. I was groupe dwith a necro once who used WTD on a chanter's corpse, the mob charmed the mob we ewre fighting (it was at like 2% heath too...) and then when it despawned it actuially took our mob with it!!!

the /pet nocast I don't think is TOO bad. I haven't got it yet but it will stop the earth pet from rooting it could definately help alot. Sometimes that root is alot more trouble than it's worth.

We do get kidna screwed on the AAs though overall. Hell we just now got quick damage with OOW.

I wonder what kind of PoS pet this is going to be.
Another book filler for mages I'd imagine. or hey maybe it will cast all spells as an AE and give the enchanters something to complain about too.
Sony has REALLY droped the ball on the fire pet line.
